1 Tentative Secondary Tech Mod Software List - MCPS (Subject to Approval) ActivInspire 1.6 This Promethean software supports the use of the Promethean interactive whiteboard to create interactive, engaging flipcharts for instruction. Adobe Reader X Adobe Reader X allows users to view, print and search Adobe PDF files. Allows users to fill in and save Adobe PDF files created in Adobe Acrobat 8 or 9. To access and request updated forms and information about MCPS Acrobat forms, go to: Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Design Premium This suite of software includes Acrobat X Pro, Dreamweaver, Photoshop Extended, Bridge, Device Central, Fireworks, Flash Pro, Flash Catalyst, InDesign and Illustrator which are used to design, layout, and build dynamic Web pages. Adobe Premiere Elements copies per middle school 3 copies per high school Adobe Premiere Elements 10.0 gives users tools to capture video to the computer. They can also edit, add titles, music, narration, special effects and then output a finished movie back to videotape, DVD, or the web. Alice Alice is 3D computer programming software. 2 Boardmaker Plus Classroom Suite 4 by Intellitools Licenses depend on special education programs. The CD is required to run the program. All CD s are catalogued in the Media Center. Licensed for Autism, PEP, School/Community- Based and LFI classrooms, and Speech and Language Pathologists in schools Boardmaker Plus allows instructors to create printed materials with Picture Communication Symbols (PCS) and other pictures and graphics. It also provides voice, sound, animation and video capabilities. Intellitools Classroom Suite 4 combines direct instruction with a flexible tool environment to help students achieve mastery in reading, writing and math. Teachers can make overlays for the Intellikeys Keyboard using Overlay Maker 3 to be used with activities made in Classroom Suite 4. Eclipse Eclipse is an open-source computer programing software framework written primarily in Java. FileMaker Pro 11 FileMaker Pro 11 is database software that allows multiple tables in one file and makes the management of data and information, such as student biographical and achievement data, easy to view and use. Geometer s Sketchpad v. 5 Licensed for each math teacher The teacher s version of Geometer s Sketchpad allows users to build and investigate mathematical models, objects, figures, diagrams, and graphs in a visual manner. Schools must have the CD in order to use this program. CDs are distributed based on the following programs at each school: School/Community-Based, LFI, Speech and Language, and Autism. Schools turn in their old Boardmaker & Writing with Symbol CDs to receive new CDs Special education software This is an upgraded version of FileMaker Pro. 3 Graph Master Network Graph Master is a data analysis tool for grades 6-8. Students can collect, graph, analyze and present data. ImageBlender 3 60 copies ImageBlender from Tech4Learning is an image-editing software that allows students to edit images and create new art that can be used in multimedia assignments. Inspiration 9.0 Inspiration is a visual learning tool that enables students in grades 4-12 to develop ideas and organize thinking. Inspiration's integrated diagramming and outlining environments work together to help students comprehend concepts and information. Internet Explorer 9 Internet Explorer 9 provides tabbed browsing, an instant search box, and access to RSS feeds (Really simple Syndication: Web formats used to publish frequently updated works, such as news headlines and blog entries). Kurzweil 3000 Version 13 All middle and high schools will have at least 10 licenses. Some schools will have more if they purchased licenses on their own. Kurzweil is text-to-speech reading and writing program. The application is able to scan printed text and convert PDF documents into Kurzweil format. It also will read Word documents. Schools currently have this version, which will continue to be supported. (ITSS installation required) Kurzweil is text-to-speech software that can be used by all students. 4 LanSchool Computer Management Software Middle schools will receive a license for each computer lab and media center; high schools will receive a site license. LanSchool classroom management software connects the instructor s computer with every computer in a networked computer lab. The software allows the instructor to communicate, monitor, or collaborate with students individually or as a group. NEW SOFTWARE Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 21 Platinum Microsoft Office Network 50 user licenses Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing teaches typing skills, monitors student progress, and customizes review exercises to target problem areas. Microsoft Office Professional contains a word-processing program (Word), a slide presentation program (PowerPoint), a spreadsheet program (Excel), a database program (Access), a desktop publishing program (Publisher), an electronic notebook program (OneNote), and an program (Outlook). Has the ability to save as PDF, XPS, HTML, and OpenDocument formats. Natural Reader 10 Natural Reader is text-to-speech software which can read text from Word, Web pages, PDFs, and s aloud to students. Neo Manager NEO Manager, formerly known as AlphaSmart Manager, is used to send files and SmartApplets to the NEOs, change settings on the NEOs as well as retrieve files from the NEO to your computer. This can be used with the SmartOption Mobile lab or a single NEO plugged directly into your computer. 5 Overlay Maker 03 by Intellitools Licensing depends on special education programs. Intellitools Overlay Maker allows special education instructors to create overlays for the Intellikeys keyboard. Paint.net Paint.net is image-editing software that allows students and teachers to easily edit photos and images. Pixie 2 60 copies Pixie is a paint and draw program that includes text features, clip art, and voice recording that students and teachers can use to create podcasts, online story books, videos and flash animations for assignments. PowerTalk PowerTalk is text-to-speech software for PowerPoint presentations. Scratch Scratch is a programming language used to create interactive stories, animations, games, and art that can be shared on the web. Share 60 copies Share from Tech4Learning allows students to combine text, graphics, movies and interactivity to demonstrate mastery or create web sites and digital portfolios. Licensing is based on the following programs at each school: School/Community-Based, LFI, Speech and Language, and Autism. Paint.net replaces Irfanview. 6 Windows Media Player Windows Media Player is a media player and library for playing audio, video, and viewing images. Windows Live Movie Maker Windows Live Movie Maker allows users to create, edit, and share movies via the Web, or CD. WinTV 7 Classroom instructional machines WinTV 7 allows users to view available television programs through the computer. WordQ 3.0 Tech Mod schools will share 250 licenses. WordQ word prediction and text-to-speech software makes writing easier for people with learning disabilities. WordQ suggests words for students to use and provides spoken feedback to help them find mistakes. This is special education software found in the Applications folder on the MCPS computers. WriteOnline This is a web-based application that is available for both school and home use.
