2 IMPLEMENTATION. 1 Bitmap fonts 1.1 General description for embedded Bitmap fonts and glyphs This section describes some implementation details for the internal bitmap fonts. The bitmap fonts are based on the existing SATO fonts, but now extended with more glyphs. Number of glyphs Each supported bitmap font contains now 402 characters (from 250 characters before). Glyph indexing All bitmap fonts must have the same character at the same index. To standardize the translation, Unicode glyph index is implemented. Zero-slash The zero with slash and without is mapped to different bitmaps. The zero with slash is at U0030 and the zero without slash is at U0080. Euro Character mapping The Euro Character mapping is now controlled by selecting a codepage that contains the Euro Character ( =U+20AC), but for the old code pages the configuration setting in the LCD-menu is still available. 1.2 Bitmap font support The name of the bitmap fonts that have been extended with the new glyphs are according with the table below. It should precede the text/font command, and it remains active until the printer is turned off. It can also be set as default. Page 2 of 8

Most modern TrueType fonts use Unicode encoding and the printer also support Unicode for user downloadable fonts, meaning that all existing symbols within a Unicode encoded TrueType font can be printed. 2 TrueType fonts There are two different ways to have TrueType fonts on the S84 printer: Internal or embedded and downloadable. 2.1 Internal: Internal (embedded) Fonts are: No. Font style Font ID 1 CG Times A 2 CG Triumvirate B 2.2 Downloadable TrueType fonts: These fonts are fonts downloaded to the printer using a special tool (like Memory Gallery Master 2 or All in One Tool) and usually the font get internally the name of a letter. S84 will store the downloaded TTF fonts in the extended part of the internal memory allocation. You will be able to use the Code Page platform here described when downloading a TTF font from your system if you select the Extension International Character Set in the application during the download of the selected font. This choice will be available in the tool. All In One Tool version works! All In One Tool version will NOT work NOTE: 1. Please note that when using ASCII characters as Font ID for TrueType font download or font deletion using the <ESC>FD and <ESC>FC commands the following characters are not allowed to be used A, B, C, F, G, J, K, P, S, T, U, V, c, j, t. These characters are either reserved for use by resident fonts or reserved for special purposes. Page 4 of 8

5 2.3 TrueType font support Equivalent to the bitmap fonts, and to be able to print the different languages, the font must contain the different glyphs for the languages to be printed. This is not always the case for internal fonts. In the table below you will see what code pages and therefore what languages are supported by the S84xxse printer with the different existing internal TrueType fonts. The embedded fonts do not contain all glyphs found in the bitmap fonts. 7 3 Exceptions and remarks of implementation 3.1 Downloadable TTF fonts The firmware version does support Code Page selection for downloadable TTF fonts. For more information see chapter Vector fonts No Code Page support for the Vector fonts 3.3 RD command Vs CE command Command combinations of RD and CE are accepted. Last command issued (RD or CE) will set the Codepage and will be active till next RD or CE command (dynamic codepage selection). Only CE command with parameter <P> can change the default codepage (factory default is DOS 858), this will be even valid for RD command font selection, if parameter (2) in RD command is (minus character).
