By default, PS fonts do not include the Euro Currency Symbol. This allows it to be printed even though we are using a PS font.

1 Substitute Fonts. Disabling this will help solve problems of missing characters, or different characters printing. Do Not Use Printer Fonts may cause slower throughput, but in general is safer. By default, PS fonts do not include the Euro Currency Symbol. This allows it to be printed even though we are using a PS font. This updates the list of fonts installed on the printer, e.g. if soft fonts have been downloaded separately. Send Fonts As.. Gives a choice of how to send TrueType and PostScript fonts to the printer. Sending TrueType as Bitmap is generally safer, but will take longer.

2 Send TrueType Fonts as gives the option for sending TrueType fonts as either: Type 42: Recommended way since it is supported by all PS printers. Outlines: For scalable outlines (Type 1), best for large point sizes. Bitmaps: Or (Type 3) is good for most point sizes. Don t Send: Doesn t send TrueType fonts at all. Send PostScript fonts as has two options: In Native Format: Sends PS fonts to the printer in their native format (Type 1). Don t Send: Don t Send does not substitute printer fonts for PostScript fonts. When a PostScript font is not available, the default printer font, usually Courier, is used. This is an advanced feature that only users experienced with managing fonts should use.

3 Paper Size option. Choosing custom paper size will enable the Custom Size button. Allows enabling/disabling of Auto Tray Switch and Paper Size Check Paper Orientation. Selecting Landscape will enable the Rotated checkbox. Sets the amount copies and whether or not Collate should be used. This feature may conflict with some apps which have there own settings for this. To avoid confusion, the printer driver setting should be used. If a hard disk is installed, Proof and Print and Secure Print jobs can be selected from this list. The PIN button is used to change the Individual job PIN if needed. Can be used to decrease (but not increase) the printable area. But, since the physical printable area does not change, this is of limited use. One possibility would be when using paper with a special border.

4 Media Type is probably the most important setting in the driver. The Media Type must be selected for all the different types of media that are used with your printer. The Media Types are as follows: Printer Setting Light Medium-Light Medium Medium-Heavy Heavy Ultra-Heavy Labels 1 Labels 2 Transparency Printer Menu* 16lb or less 17-19lb 20-24lb 25-27lb 32-38lb 33-54lb Heavy Labels Ultra Heavy Labels Transparencies (Folex BG67) (3M CG3720) *The Printer Setting option in the driver goes by the current Printer Menu setting for the Media Type

5 Pages per Sheet. Allows for 1,2,4,6,9 or 16 pages to be printed on each side of the page. Page borders can also be printed as long as the Page Border checkbox is clicked. 2 Sided Printing enables the duplex option to be selected. The duplex unit must be installed under the Device Options tab for this feature to be enabled. The Summary window summarizes the current driver settings.

6 Resolution. Enables 600dpi x 600dpi or 1200dpi x 1200dpi for the C7400/C9400. For the C7200/C9200 this allows for 600dpi x 600dpi or virtual 600dpi x 1200dpi printing. Special allows for printing of a Mirror Image, or the image can be printed as a Negative Image. The Negative Image is only available when Greyscale printing is turned on. Miscellaneous scales the image to the desired percentage.

7 Color Control has three options. Printer Color Matching: Uses the color matching system inside the printer. Pantone: Used to match Pantone Ink Simulation colors. No Color Matching: Choose this setting when you want the application to match colors. For details on the Option button please refer to the next picture Black Overprint prints black text overtop of a color background instead of the color background being cut out so that the text can be placed inside of the cut out Grayscale prints in B&W only Color Separations prints the selected colors in separation form

8 Image Color Matching chooses the color matching system inside the printer OKI Color Matching: This color matching process is applied when print data of the RGB color space which is used in general applications for display on monitors is printed and converted into the CMYK color space of a printer. (Good for most apps) PostScript Color Matching: This option performs the color matching process by utilizing the PS Color Rendering Dictionary. (Good for use when having color matching problems) Image Color Rendering Style. Auto: Chooses which color method to use out of perceptual or vivid depending on the print job. Perceptual: Gives colors with high contrast, colors are converted equally into the printers color range Vivid: Gives colors with the most brightness, all colors outside the printer color range are converted to colors with the closest saturation in the printers range Color Halftone: Only available on the C9200/C9400 series. Device Best Dither: has emphasis on detail and resolution. Cluster Ordered Dither: yields smoother gradations. Black Finish Auto: Generates Black using the most appropriate method for the current document Matte: Uses 100% Black Toner Glossy: Creates Black by using CMY which will create a glossy effect

9 The Device Options tab only appears when the driver is viewed from the Printers folder. Memory Settings will adjust the way that the driver downloads fonts and rendering information based on what is set here. If the Memory Configuration is changed, these settings are automaticaly optimized by the driver. If an option is installed in one of the C-Series printers the user must change that option to installed here before they can be used. Highlight the option, then change it in the window underneath.

10 PostScript output Format allows you to choose the PS file format. PostScript (Optimize for Speed): Reduces printing time but in some environments it may not fully utilize all of the network spooler features. PostScript (Optimize for Portability-ADSC): When a PS file that conforms to Adobe Document Structuring Conventions (ADSC) is desired then choose this option. Encapsulated PostScript (EPS format): This option will create single page EPS files in an application so that this EPS file may be inserted into a document created in another application. Choose this option when a highquality image is desired to be inserted into another application. Archive Format: This option will suppress many of the printer settings that may prevent a portable document from printing. This is generally used when you intend to distribute a file that may be printed on unknown printers. PJL Archive Format: This option sends a PJL command to the printer to inform it that a job is being printed in PS. Use only if the printer supports both PJL and PS.

11 PostScript Header downloads a PS header at the beginning of each job. Do not check Assume header is downloaded and retained, unless the printer is not rebooted regularly. This will ensure that the printer gets the correct header information for each print job. Print PostScript error information lets you know why a job failed by printing PS error pages. This is not really of much use to an end user, it is usually only used by programmers. This is the amount of time the printer will wait for data. If there is longer gap between data then the specified amount, the job will be cancelled.

12 PostScript Language level allows the user to define the PS level of the printer. This should always be left at 3. Data Format changes the way that data is send across the communication medium to the printer. Changing these can have a significant effect on throughput & speed. ASCII data: Data is sent 7bits at a time, this format maybe slower but is generally compatible with all communication media. Tagged binary comm protocol: All types of data except special control characters are sent in binary format (8bits). Pure binary data: This is the fastest printing method since all data is sent in pure binary (8bits). However it is generally only supported over Appletalk or Ethernet. Display alert for applications allows the driver to display alert messages when an application may be incompatible with certain driver features like the N-Up or Watermark options. The Send CTRL+D option determines whether or not to send the reset memory code (CTRL+D) to the printer.

13 Overlays feature. Choosing Enable Overlay will print overlays that are displayed in the Active Overlay window. Overlays can be added or deleted to this window by clicking on the Add or Delete button. Defined Overlay options is where all new Overlays can be created. Once a Overlay is created it is saved in a file named the same as the printers PPD except for that it is a.ini file not a.ppd file. The Overlay Name given must match exactly (case sensitive) with a PostScript overlay downloaded to the printer. For more information on PS Overlays (Forms) refer to okidoc #2914
