1 Customer Release Notes Fiery Q5000 for igen3, version 3.0 This document contains information about Fiery Q5000 for igen3 server software version 3.0. Before using the Fiery Q5000 for igen3 with version 3.0, make a copy of these Customer Release Notes and distribute them to all users. Before printing to the Fiery Q5000 for igen3: Make sure Fiery Q5000 system software version 3.0 is installed on the Fiery Q5000. Install Fiery Q5000 user software version 3.0 on client computers. For instructions, see Utilities. Install printer drivers on client computers. For instructions, see Printing from Windows and Printing from Mac OS. NOTE: The term Fiery Q5000 is used in this document to refer to the Fiery Q5000 for igen3. Fiery Advanced Controller Interface (FACI) is used to refer to the monitor, mouse, and keyboard connected to the Fiery Q5000. Setup and Installation Printer connections Make sure to keep one queue or Direct connection enabled at all times. If all the connections are disabled when you access remote Setup using Command WorkStation or Configure, the message Open Network Socket Error appears. Print Interface Paper stock The colors Blue5, Blue10, Yellow5, and Yellow10 are not recognized by the Fiery Q5000. In the Print Interface Stock Library, add new stocks with Color set to White. For more information about the Print Interface, see the documentation that accompanies your digital press. System Calibration Do not use ColorWise Pro Tools or Command WorkStation for calibration. Instead, use the methods described in the documentation that accompanies your DocuSP. Completed with Error by DocuSP When a job appears at the DocuSP with the error status, Completed with Error, Command WorkStation reports that the job is Aborted by Printer and the Print Status in the Job Log shows Rip Error. Job Log Only one page of the Job Log, containing the last 55 jobs, is printed when you select it from Command WorkStation. This occurs even when more than 55 jobs are listed in the Job Log. 2 Page 2 USB ports Devices with USB connectors are not compatible with the Fiery Q5000 system, except for the EFI Spectrometer ES Printing Mac OS X printer driver Before using the Downloads WebTool to download and extract the printer driver files for Spanish, Portuguese, or French, make sure you install Alladin StuffIt Expander, version 7.0 or later. Earlier versions of StuffIt Expander do not retain the proper accented characters for folder names used by these languages, and the subsequent printer installation will not be successful. Job Monitor Tray and Toner information Tray and Toner information is not supported on the Fiery Q5000. This information appears blank in the Job Monitor. Edge-to-edge print job Edge-to-edge print jobs may be clipped around the edges when printed. Pure Black Text/Graphics When Black Overprint is set to On, Pure Black Text/Graphics is automatically set to On. When Pure Black Text/Graphics is set to On, you may see severe steps in your print result. Duplex printing When you print a duplex job with the DocuSP Delivery option set to Face Down on a media type for which one side has different characteristics than the other side (for example, one-side coated paper), load the media upside down in the input tray. Offset jobs By default, the offset feature is enabled by the DocuSP. As a result, multiple-copy jobs are always offset in the finisher, regardless of the Offset Jobs print option setting on the Fiery Q5000. To disable the offset feature on the DocuSP: 1 Click the Printer Manager icon on the DocuSP. 2 Click the Stacking tab. 3 Click the Settings button. 4 In the Settings for All Stackers dialog box, clear the Enable check box for Collated Stacking and the Enable check box for Uncollated Stacking. 5 Click OK to close the dialog box.

3 Page 3 Scale When you override the Scale print option to enlarge EPS files in Command WorkStation, images may shift to a corner of the paper. In some cases, images may be cut off at the edge of the paper "x 22.5" page size The 14.33"x 22.5" page size is available from the Windows XP/2000 printer driver, Mac OS X, or Command WorkStation as a standard page size. The maximum page size has been increased to 14.33"x 22.5" as well. The 14.33"x 22.5" page size requires a special feeder kit on the digital press in order to print. If you print this paper size without the special feeder kit, you will not get a constraint error message. Instead, the job will not print and the file will reside in the Printed queue with an error saying that the job was aborted by the printer. Number of Tabs This option is not available in the Mac OS X printer driver. Use Command WorkStation to specify this option. Page Size in the Mac OS X printer driver Available settings in this option are not the same as those listed in Print Options. Booklet Maker option and PostScript files The Booklet Maker option may not apply to some PostScript files when you import them from Command WorkStation; Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition; or Downloader. To work around this problem, print the file using the Fiery Q5000 printer driver. FreeForm When you specify duplex settings for FreeForm masters, the settings have no effect. Specify the duplex setting for the FreeForm variable job, not the FreeForm master job. Cancelling jobs It may take longer to cancel the processing of large PDF jobs. Clearing the server Do not clear the server while jobs are processing. When you clear the server while a job is processing, the server clears except for the processing job. The job continues to process on the same page and new jobs are not processed. If this happens, restart the Fiery Q5000. Scaling TIFF files If you want to increase the scaling over 100% for TIFF files, to apply the scaling properly, you must also change the page size to a larger size. If you do not change the page size, scaling is not applied. Printing layers of images and overwrapping text When you print a job with layers of images and overwrapping text, you may notice that your printed output loses gradation. If this happens, use Impose to fix the issue. Printing PS Files Calibration pages If you want to print the PS Files Calibration pages, make sure that the Control Bar is not enabled.

5 Page 5 Mac OS X Saving PDF or PS files When you set Image Shift with duplex settings, save the file as a PDF or PS file, and then print the file, the job prints single-sided without the Image Shift settings. If you print the settings with the driver without saving the file as a PDF or PS file, your job prints with the correct settings. Resolving print option conflicts in the Mac OS X v10.4 printer driver When you change print options in the Mac OS X v10.4 printer driver, specifically in the Printer Features pane, the print option conflicts are not resolved appropriately. For example, if you want to select a setting for the Booklet Maker print option, the Duplex (2-sided Printing) print option must be set to On before the Booklet Maker print options are available for selecting. The Booklet Maker print options are dependent on the Duplex (2-sided Printing) print option. In previous Mac OS versions, the print option conflicts were automatically corrected. To resolve the print option conflicts in the Printer Features pane, use the following procedure: TO RESOLVE PRINT OPTION CONFLICTS IN THE PRINTER FEATURES PANE 1 Select a different pane. For example, if you were in the Printer Features pane, select the Summary pane. After you refresh the Printer Features pane, there is a mismatch between the selected Feature Set group and the print options that are displayed. For example, if the last Feature Set that you changed was Image Quality 1, it is now displayed with the print options for the first Feature Set, such as Finishing 1. 2 Reselect the Feature Set group (for example, Image Quality 1) to refresh the print options displayed. 3 Select the appropriate print options and print the job. Job management Cancelling a job at the DocuSP We recommend cancelling a print job at the DocuSP. If you cancel a job at the DocuSP, the print status of the job in the Command WorkStation Job Log shows OK instead of Cancelled. Deleting a job at the DocuSP We do not recommend deleting a job at the DocuSP. As a general rule, perform all job management from the Fiery Q5000. If you delete a job at the DocuSP, the print status of the job, if it appears in the Command WorkStation Job Log, shows RIP error.

6 Page 6 Color Spot colors and process colors The Fiery Q5000 cannot blend a spot color with a process color. To work around this problem, use Spot-On to define a process color as a spot color. This allows the Fiery Q5000 to blend the two colors together, but as spot colors. Convert Rich Black to Pure Black Convert Rich Black to Pure Black is an option available in PostScript Setup. When this option is set to On, the Fiery Q5000 substitutes CMYK black for pure 100% black. This allows you to print darker blacks than are possible with the CMYK blacks on the digital press. Calibration Calibrate the engine by using the igen3. You do not need to calibrate using the Fiery Q5000. CMYK converts to K Some CMYK lines may convert to K, even when Pure Black Text and Graphics is set to Off, and Convert Rich Black to Pure Black is set to Off. Black Detection Black Detection is an accounting option available from the ColorWise tab in the printer driver. If you select Black Detection, the Fiery Q5000 checks the CMY plates after each page has been rendered. If they are all blank, the page is counted as a grayscale page in the Command WorkStation Job Log. CMYK Simulation Profile default The CMYK Simulation Profile default has changed from SWOP-Coated to ISO Coated. If you wish to obtain colors similar to those seen in version 2.1, you can select SWOP-Coated in the printer driver (ColorWise > Expert Color Settings > CMYK Simulation Profile) or change the default settings in the Server setup for the Fiery Q5000 (within ColorWise Pro Tools) to SWOP. Command WorkStation Tab settings The total number of tabs that can be set is 9999 in a set of 15. Job status When a single-page, one-copy job is printing, the status waiting, instead of printing, is displayed to the left of the job name and remains displayed until print completion.

7 Page 7 Job properties of Mixed Media jobs in the Printed queue The print option settings displayed within the Printed Jobs panel are those that appear in the Job Properties. This is also the case for Mixed Media jobs. To see the Mixed Media settings, choose Properties from the Actions menu, and then click the Paper Source print option bar. Mixed Media job and Page Range The Page Range option under the Finishing print option bar in the Job Properties dialog box is not compatible with a Mixed Media job. Set the Page Range option to All when printing a Mixed Media job. Preview in the Activity Monitor A thumbnail may not appear in the Processing section of the Activity Monitor long enough to view when you print a one-page document. Imposition custom scale Imposition custom scale is supported between the values of to only. You may get unexpected results when more than three decimal values are entered, Imposing a custom page size If you create a maximum custom page size (14.33" x 22.5") and try to Impose it, an error message appears. To avoid this, use Points instead of Inches or Millimeters for Units in Command WorkStation. TO IMPOSE A MAXIMUM CUSTOM PAGE SIZE 1 Choose Preferences from the Edit menu and specify Points for Units. 2 Click OK. 3 Select the job, right-click it, and choose Job Properties. 4 Click the Paper Source tab and select Custom. 5 Enter values in points, and then click OK. 6 Close Job Properties. 7 Select the job, right-click it, and choose Impose. This custom page size is only applied to the job you selected. To save a custom page size that is used often, use Job Templates from Job Properties. Merged rasterized jobs When you add one or more pages by duplicating existing pages of a processed job in the Preview window, the new job is printed with the added pages, as expected. However, if you print the same job from the Printed Jobs panel by choosing Print or Print and Hold from the Action menu, the job is printed without the added pages.

8 Page 8 Wrong duplex orientation Some VDP duplex jobs specified from Command WorkStation may print with the wrong duplex orientation. Overriding jobs If you select multiple jobs to override, and a conflict error message appears, you receive a series of conflict error messages equal to the number of jobs you selected to override. To avoid this, select one job at a time if you override jobs from Command WorkStation. Minimum Scale setting The minimum Scale setting is 25%, even though you can specify a lower setting from Command WorkStation when you simultaneously select two jobs to override from the Hold queue. Downloading variable data job files Do not download VIPP variable data jobs to the Direct connection. Downloading variable data jobs to the Direct connection is not supported. If you download a variable data job file to the Direct connection, Command WorkStation does not display an error message. Printing an Archived Job When you print a processed archived job from the ImageViewer File menu, you may receive an error about accessing the job on the server. If this happens, print the job by clicking the Imageviewer Print icon or, after previewing the job, right-click and Print the job in Command WorkStation. Media Color Profile in Paper Catalog When you make selections with Media Color Profile in the Paper Catalog, the selections are reflected in multiple fields. Access levels In Command WorkStation, Windows Edition Help and Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition Help, access privileges for the Operator are described incorrectly. The Operator has access to all Command WorkStation functions except accessing server setup, deleting the Job Log, and changing password setup. The functions with Operator access include aligning trays, rebooting and restarting the server, clearing the server (except for the Job Log), printing information pages, and font management. Impose Trim and Fold Marks Printed Trim and Fold Marks may not appear as defined in the Mark Properties dialog boxes, although they are printed in the correct locations. Jobs will not print Trim and Fold Marks with a 3 pt. dot trim if you specify this setting from Impose.

9 Page 9 Preview Jobs may not preview correctly from Impose when the job is printed from Adobe Reader 6.0 on Mac OS X with the Mac OS X printer driver. To see the preview or impose jobs on non-raster files, only use Command WorkStation for Windows. Impose is not supported on Mac OS X. Printing landscape documents with Impose When you impose a duplexed landscape document and print it Head-to-Toe, all the pages and images must be rotated 90 degrees. When you import a landscape PDF file from Command WorkStation or Command WorkStation, Macintosh Edition in to Impose, you do not need to rotate the pages. Hot Folders Mac OS X and Adobe Distiller For Mac OS X Hot Folders, you must run Adobe Distiller once after you install Hot Folders to enable the PS-PDF Normalizer field in the Filter Settings dialog box. After you run Distiller, the Convert PS to PDF and Distiller Profile menu is available. Default values for Image Shift, Copies, and Scale The Hot Folder default values for Image Shift, Copies, and Scale are blank. You can manually enter the values for these options. If you access these options and click the down arrow next to the option, the minimum values display. If you click the up arrow, the minimum value increases by one digit. Entering a manual scale setting In Fiery Setup, if you change the Scale to Fit option to On, and you enter a manual scale value with the Scale to Fit option set to Preserve Document Settings, the manual scale value is not applied to your job. This is because Preserve Document Settings corresponds to the default value that you set in Fiery Setup (On), and the Scale to Fit option overrides the manual scale value. To use a manual scale value, select Off for Scale to Fit. Imposition Scale with Mac OS X Hot Folders For Mac OS X Hot Folders, the Imposition scale shows Scale to Fit as the default even though the Fiery Q5000 server scale default is 100%. Mixed Media Mixed Page Sizes If a Mixed Media job includes different page sizes, such as 8.5 x11 LEF and 11x17 SEF, you may notice a pause when the page size shifts from one size to another during printing. However, there is no impact on printing.

10 Page 10 Mixed Media job and FreeForm The FreeForm feature cannot be implemented on a Mixed Media job. The FreeForm master is printed on inserted blank pages without any variable elements in the Mixed Media job. Chapter start Page 0 is an impractical page number for the Chapter start field. However, the field accepts the value 0. Type the starting page numbers for every chapter in your document, separated by commas. Your entry in the Chapter start field applies to the entire document, regardless of the page ranges you specify in the Define Mixed Media area. Inserting a blank page When you insert a blank page after the last page, you may see unexpected results when you generate a Preview. If you want to insert a blank page using Mixed Media, in Command WorkStation Job Properties, do not select the Even or Odd setting for the Page Range option. Fiery Downloader Interruption during downloading Exiting Fiery Downloader while it is downloading files or fonts may result in unexpected errors. Print and RIP statuses Print and RIP statuses do not appear in Fiery Downloader. Check the job statuses using Command Workstation. Applications Enfocus PitStop PitStop software is located in the EFI Impose Kit. Microsoft Word When you scale an image in Microsoft Word, the image may not center correctly. To work around this problem, send the job to the Hold queue with 100% scaling and override the scaling in Command WorkStation. Adobe InDesign If you install Windows 2000 drivers using Point and Print via SMB, Fiery specific settings are not applied to InDesign jobs. To work around this problem, install Windows 2000 drivers using the User Software CD.

11 Page 11 Help Help files The help files for the Fiery utilities are developed for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer v5.5 and above. If you use other browsers, such as Safari or previous versions of Internet Explorer, the help might not display properly. With Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Windows XP Service Pack 2 computer, the help files might not display or display properly in the following situations: If your browser uses a pop-up blocker, it might block the help files. If this happens, temporarily disable your pop-up blocker to display the help file. If your browser has the advanced Internet option enabled to display notifications about script errors, it might display a warning window before displaying a help file page. To avoid the warning window, clear the Display a notification about every script error option in the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box. A warning message might also appear in the Status bar, but the content of the help file is not affected by this error.
