Daylight Saving Time March 11, 2007 is the start of Daylight Saving Time this year. This change causes an issue with certain operating systems that handle their clock time using the old rules. For details, see the following web page: The file README_DSTReadmeFirst.pdf provides specific details for updating Avid systems. There are several scripts that your administrator can use to update your Windows and Linux systems with the daylight saving time fix. Note that the Java versions of the scripts are not required for Interplay v1.1 systems. The Interplay v1.1 Java components contain the updated files. Installing and Configuring Interplay Software To install the software and begin the configuration of your Interplay environment, use the Avid Interplay Software Installation and Configuration Guide. Performing an Upgrade Install Backing up the Interplay Engine Database c Before you perform an upgrade from v1.0.x to v1.1.x, save the most recent full backup of the metadata database. This allows you to move back to Interplay v1.0.x, if necessary. The Interplay database format is different in Interplay 1.0.x and Interplay 1.1.x. The differences are in the metadata database. When you start the Interplay 1.1.x Engine, the existing metadata database is updated to the new format. This change to the database can not be rolled back. You can only move back to the v1.0.x version if you have backed up your v1.0.x database. For details on saving the backup version, see the Interplay Engine ReadMe named README_InterplayEngine_Archive_Access.pdf. The Readme is on the Interplay Installer DVD and on the Knowledge Base. Upgrade Procedure for Interplay Engine v1.1 With Interplay v1.1, the database model was improved to allow better performance and scalability. If you migrate from a v1.0.x version of the software, the Interplay Engine must upgrade your database to the new database format. 6

Installing and Configuring Interplay Software To update the Avid Interplay Engine software: 1. Verify that you have a valid backup as described in Backing up the Interplay Engine Database on page 6. If not, take the Interplay Engine offline and copy the AvidWG\_Database folder to another location. 2. Use the following steps to deactivate the database: a. Open the Interplay Administrator tool. b. Click Manage Databases. c. Select the AvidWG database and click Deactivate. 3. Update the Interplay Engine software to v.1.1.x. 4. Use the Interplay Administrator to activate the database. The easiest way to do this is to perform the task on the system running the Interplay Engine as follows: a. Open the Interplay Administrator tool on the system running the Interplay Engine. b. Click Manage Databases. c. Type the following in the Database (.pro) file to activate text box. \\engine_name\wg_database$\avidwg\avidwg.pro The following example shows the command on a system named wgb-ab. n d. Click Activate. Activating the database initiates the database upgrade. The system displays a progress bar while the update is in progress. The database upgrade can take up to 30 minute, depending on the size of the database. It is important not to interrupt or stop the Interplay Engine or perform a failover during the upgrade process. This could result in problems with the database. To recover from a failed or interrupted upgrade, you need a valid backup of the old database. For additional information on activating and deactivating the database, see the Avid Interplay Engine and Avid Interplay Archive Engine Administration Guide. 7

n If you do not deactivate the database before the software upgrade, the database upgrade begins on your first login to the Interplay Engine after you update the software. This occurs the first time you log onto the database with any client (for example, Interplay Access or Interplay Assist). After you type your username and password at the login screen, the system stays at a Connecting status while it performs the upgrade. In this case, the system does not display any messages indicating that the upgrade is in progress. Do not exit the application, shut down the system, or fail-over the Interplay Engine while the upgrade is being performed. If You Need to Restore Your Interplay Database after the v1.1 Upgrade 8 If you did not deactivate your database before installing the v1.1 software, you may find that you cannot log on to the Interplay Engine from any of the Interplay clients. The symptom is that you cannot select a database when you attempt to log in. You can fix this problem by restoring your last full database backup. The database backups reside in the following folder: d:\workgroup_databases\avidwg\_backup You need to run a command line backup tool to restore your backup. The command line has two modes. You want to use the remote mode that allows you to run the tool without manually locking the database. The tool locks the database for you. Before you begin restoring the database: 1. Verify the location of your database. On most systems it will be in the following directory: D:\Workgroup_Databases\AvidWG 2. Verify the full backup that you want to use. On most systems the backup folders are in the following directory: D:\Workgroup_Databases\AvidWG\_Backup 3. Identify the most recent backup. You need a full backup so compare the size of the folders. Right-click a folder and choose Properties to compare sizes. To restore an earlier database: 1. Choose Start > Run. The system opens the Run window. 2. Type cmd in the text box and press OK. The system opens a command prompt window. 3. Navigate to the Servers folder as follows: cd C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Interplay Engine\Server 4. Type dir to verify that the InterplayRestore.exe tool is in the directory. 5. Type the following to run the version that automatically locks the database:

Installing and Configuring Interplay Software InterplayRestore.exe /nolock 6. You will be prompted for the path to the database and to the backup folder. Enter the complete UNC path. For example, on this system there is not an alias for the D drive so you would type the following: \\INT-WG5-ENG\D$\Workgroup_Databases\AvidWG\ 7. The system lists the databases that you can choose from. Enter the number that corresponds to the one you want to use. The system locks the database and copies over all of the files that it needs to restore the database. The system displays a message about moving the _Master directory. You don t have to perform this step if you are only recovering from a problem encountered in migrating your database to Interplay v1.1. To reactivate your database after restoring the backup: 1. Start the Interplay Administrator tool. 2. You will be prompted to unlock your database. 3. Open the Manage Databases view 4. If your database appears, select it and click Activate. 5. If the database does not appear, type the following in the Database (.pro) file to activate text box. \\engine_name\wg_database$\avidwg\avidwg.pro The following example shows the command on a system named wgb-ab. e. Click Activate. The database appears in the Databases area and the Interplay Engine is now ready to use. 9

Additional Information for Avid Interplay Framework n This procedure ensures that the Avid Service Starter Service automatically restarts other services, such as the Interplay Media Indexer service, that need to be restarted. You must do the following after you complete the upgrade installation: 1. Use the Interplay Service Configuration tool to set the Automatic restart option in the Avid Service Starter service on all Framework client systems. You can use the new Apply To button to apply the setting to all systems. 2. Restart the Avid Service Starter service on each system running the Interplay Framework. You must do this manually at each system. The new Apply To button does not allow you to automatically set Media Indexer settings on other systems on the network. Setting the Automatic restart option on all Framework clients: 1. Start the Avid Interplay Service Configuration tool. 2. Select any system in the Interplay environment and click the Avid Service Starter Service as shown in the following illustration. Server Starter service Select these options 3. Select Automatically start other Avid Controlled services. 4. Click Start controlled services anytime they stop running. 5. Click Apply To. 10

Installing and Configuring Interplay Software The Apply To dialog box opens. 6. Click Select All and then click OK. The system applies the setting to the Service Starter services on all of the selected systems. 7. Restart the Service Starter Service on every system as described in the following procedure. To restart the Service Starter Service on all systems running the Interplay Framework: 1. Start the Avid Interplay Workgroup Properties tool. The Avid Interplay Workgroup Properties window opens as shown in the following illustration. 11

2. Click the Advanced button. The Avid Interplay Services window opens. 3. Select Avid Service Starter Service and click Restart. 4. Click Exit and then click OK. 5. Perform the same procedure on all of the other systems running the Framework. This must be performed manually for each system. Additional Installation Information for Media Indexer Backing Up the Media Indexer Cache Files Media Indexer cache files from Interplay v1.0.x are not compatible with Interplay v1.1. Once you use the cache files in Interplay v1.1, they becomes incompatible with v1.0.x. Before you perform the upgrade, back up the v.1.0.x cache files in case you want to go back to the v1.0.x software. The cache files are in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Avid\AvidMI\state t Copy all of the.cache files in the state folder to a backup folder. Make sure that the Media Indexer is not indexing files when you reinstall Media Indexer software. For more information, see Media Indexer on page 41. For more information on Media Indexer cache files, see Media Indexer System Files on page

Installing and Configuring Interplay Software Media Indexer Configuration Issues There are three configuration issues for Media Indexers. Perform the following steps after you install the Media Indexer software. n To resolve configuration issues: 1. After you install the Media Indexer software on a server or Avid editing system, the administrator should do the following: a. Open the Windows Services application (available by running services.msc or Computer Management > Services and Applications > Services). b. Set the Startup Type of the Avid Interplay Media Indexer to Manual. This is important because you don t want the Media Indexer to restart when Windows restarts. You want the Avid Interplay Framework services to restart the Media Indexer. 2. Ensure that the Avid Service Starter service has been reset for all Media Indexer systems as described in Additional Information for Avid Interplay Framework on page 10. This procedure ensures that the Avid Interplay Framework will restart the Media Indexer if it stops unexpectedly. 3. If you have more than 10 Avid editing clients (including Avid Interplay Assist and Avid inews Instinct), edit the AvidMI.vmoptions file on the Media Indexers that are in the High Availability Group. The following section describes how to edit the file. After the upgrade you should review the storage configuration of each Media Indexer and reconfigure any Media Indexers as necessary. Also make sure that the Media Indexers on each Avid editing system are connected to the High Availability Group. Editing the AvidMI.vmoptions file on the Media Indexers in a High Availability Group c Avid Interplay Best Practices describes how to configure Media Indexers in your Interplay environment. There are four ways to configure a Media Indexer: As the leader of a High Availability Group As a member of a High Availability Group As a delegate to a High Availability Group On an Avid editing system Only perform this operation if you have more than 10 Avid editing clients in your Avid Interplay environment (including Assist and inews Instinct). This change allows the Media Indexer to monitor up to 50 clients. For a Media Indexer that is either the leader or a member of a High Availability Group, you must edit the following file: 13

C:\Program Files\Avid\AvidMI\bin\AvidMI.vmoptions The reason that you edit this file is to allow the Media Indexers in the High Availability Group to divide the available memory to monitor requests from Avid editing clients as well as to monitor the files on shared storage and other Media Indexer delegates. Do not make the changes on a Media Indexer delegate; you want a delegate to be able to devote memory to monitoring the files on shared storage. n To edit the AvidMI.vmoptions file on a Media Indexer in the High Availability Group: Do not edit the file on Media Indexer delegates or on the Media Indexers on the Avid editing systems. 1. Install the latest Interplay Framework and Media Indexer (MI) from the Avid Interplay Installer DVD. 2. Stop the Media Indexer service as follows: a. Start Avid Interplay Workgroup Properties. b. Click the Advanced button. c. Select the Interplay Media Indexer service and click Stop. 3. Use an application such as Notepad to open the following file: C:\Program Files\Avid\AvidMI\bin\AvidMI.vmoptions 4. Change the Xmx and Xms values to the following: Default values Xmx1600m Xms1600m Values for Media Indexers in the High Availability Group if there are more than 10 Interplay clients. Xmx768m Xms512m Save and close the file. 6. Use the Interplay Workgroup Properties tool to restart the Interplay Media Indexer service. For more information on Media Indexer, see Media Indexer on page 41. Media Indexer File Count and Client Count For this release, an individual Media Indexer is capable of indexing up to 400k files depending on how use use the Media Indexer in the Interplay environment. The actual number of files depends on the memory used by the Media Indexer monitoring that particular portion of shared storage. Memory usage is affected by the number of files present

Installing and Configuring Interplay Software in the monitored storages and, to a smaller degree, by the length of the storage path. Keeping the maximum number of media files around 500k files and shortening the workspace, sub-folder, and clip names can increase the number of files your Media Indexer can index. However, it is better to monitor the amount of memory used by the Media Indexer and take steps to add additional Media Indexers if memory usage is affected. For information on monitoring the memory used by a Media Indexer, see Avid Interplay Best Practices. The following table specifies the number of files that different types of Media Indexers can monitor. Avid Interplay Best Practices describes the different types of Media Indexers. In this table, the term HAG refers to a High Availability Group. MI Type Number of MIs in HAG Number of Clients a in Interplay environment Requires edits to AvidMI.vmoptions file Number of files that can be indexed by this MI HAG member 1 Less than 10 No 400k HAG member 1 or more Greater than 10, less than 50 Yes 250k HAG member 2 or more Greater than 50 b Yes 250k Delegate NA NA No 400k a. Clients include Avid editing applications, Avid Instinct, and Avid Assist. b. For configurations with more than 50 clients, see your Avid representative for additional information. For information on editing an AvidMI.vmoptions file, see Editing the AvidMI.vmoptions file on the Media Indexers in a High Availability Group on page 13. Also see Additional Installation Information for Media Indexer on page 12. Additional Installation Information for Avid Low Res Encode The instructions for configuring and installing Avid Low Res Encode are now in the Avid Interplay Low Res Encode Setup and Configuration. You can download a version of the document from the Avid Knowledge Base. The Interplay v1.1 configuration requires a copy of the Avid Low Res Encode Bootset and root disk listed in Hardware and Software Requirements on page 4. The following information is important for an Avid Low Res Encode configuration. 15

Additional Installation Information for Interplay Adapter The Interplay Adapter (also referred to as the MMAdapter) is used by AirSpeed systems to connect to the Interplay Engine. Use the following guidelines to determine where to install the Interplay Adapter: If you use CaptureManager servers to control AirSpeed captures, install the Interplay Adapter on the CaptureManager servers. If you do not use CaptureManager, install the Interplay Adapter on the Avid Interplay Engine. Do not install the Interplay Adapter on an Interplay Engine cluster system. Restart the Interplay Adapter application once a day. For information on installing the Interplay Adapter, see the Avid Interplay Software Installation and Configuration Guide. For any additional information on installing the Interplay Adapter, see the version of this ReadMe on the Knowledge Base. Additional Information for Configuring Avid AirSpeed Systems See the Avid Interplay Software Installation and Configuration guide for information on configuring AirSpeed systems in an Interplay environment. 16

In addition, the following online PDF manuals were updated: Avid Interplay Best Practices Guide Avid Interplay Software Installation and Configuration Guide Avid Interplay Media Services Setup and User s Guide Avid Interplay Transfer Setup and User s Guide Avid Interplay Framework User s Guide Documentation is also available on the Avid Interplay portal at each Interplay site. For more information, see the Using This Guide chapter of any of the updated Avid Interplay manuals. Media Indexer System Files When you click on an Avid Interplay Media Indexer process in the Avid Interplay Service Configuration Tool, the system displays the Avid Interplay Media Indexer tab. The tab contains the following options: High Availability Group Periodic Save Advanced Settings (memory thresholds) Storage The High Availability Group, Periodic Save, and Advanced Settings are stored in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/JavaSoft/Prefs/com/avid/umd/server 21

When you click the Configure button in the Storage area, the system displays the Configure Storage dialog box. This dialog box allows you to specify the connections to other Media Indexers and to shared or local storage locations. The Media Indexer cache files contain this information. The cache files are stored in the following directory: C:\Program Files\Avid\AvidMI\state There are two types of cache files. The channel*.cache files contain the media clip metadata. The ummds.cache files contain the connections to other media indexers and to shared and local storage locations. Use the following steps to modify the Media Indexer settings on a system: If you want to remove a Media Indexer from a High Availability Group, use the Service Configuration tool. If that fails, delete the registry key and restart the system. This returns the High Availability Group, Periodic Save, and Advanced Settings to their default values. If you want to remove the connections to other Media Indexers or to shared or local storage locations, either use the Configure dialog box or delete the ummds.cache and ummds.cache.bak files. f you want to force the MI to rescan all of your storage locations, delete the channel*.cache files. If you only want to recan a particular portion of shared storage, select the folder or workspace in the Configure Storage dialog box, click Change, and then click Apply and OK in the Media Files Location dialog box. Turning Off Dynamic Relink for Avid Editing Applications If you don t want to use MultiRez in your Interplay Environment there are several steps to ensure that the Avid editing applications do not use the feature. To use just one resolution in the Avid editing applications such as Avid NewsCutter and Avid Media Composer: 1. Open the Dynamic Relink dialog box and click "Override Working Settings with Target Settings". This makes the working and target resolutions the same. 2. Set the target resolution to the resolution you want to use. Another way to make sure that you don t use MultiRez would be to not enable Dynamic Relinking at all in a project. The problem with doing this is that if there are different resolutions that are used at your site, you will always get the "currently checked in resolution" when you check a clip out of the Interplay Window. For example, if another user 22

Documentation Changes had transcoded your clip to a different resolution and checked it in, you would get that resolution the next time you checked it out. Its is better to use the Override Working and Target Setting option described above. To use just one resolution in Avid Assist or Avid Instinct 1. Open the Interplay Admin tool. 2. In the Editor Database Settings view, set the top level of the database to the target resolution you want to use. If you have already set the value on different folders, you may have to change the values for those folders. 3. In the Instinct/Assist User Settings, set the working resolution for each user to the one you want to use. Set "can use higher resolutions" and "can use lower resolutions" to No. This is the part that will be simplified with the addition of the "Disable Dynamic Relink in Assist and Instinct" feature. For more information on MultiRez, see "Working with MultiRez and Dynamic Relink" in the Avid editing application Help or in the Basic Guide for your Avid editing application. inews and the COM interface Avid Interplay Best Practices on the Avid Interplay Online Library DVD has an error in the Overview chapter. The section titled inews in the Overview chapter incorrectly states that NewsCutter makes use of the COM Control component of inews. Avid Instinct uses the COM interface but NewsCutter does not use it. Interplay Administration Guide and Consistency Checker The Avid Interplay Engine and Avid Interplay Archive Engine Administration Guide has several sections on using the Consistency Checker that is available in the Administrator tool. Avid recommends that you only use the Consistency Checker if directed to do so by Avid Technical Support. License Key Info Tool You can use the LicenseKeyInfo.exe tool to display and print out the license info for an Interplay Engine or Interplay Archive Engine. The tool resides in the following folder: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Interplay Engine\Server To examine the license key information for an Interplay Engine: 1. Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Interplay Engine\Server 2. Double-click LicenseKeyInfo.exe 23

The Interplay License Info dialog box opens. 3. Click Get License Info. 4. Select the License key and click OK. The system displays the license info as shown in the following illustration. 5. (Option) Click Save License Info or Print License Info and follow the on-screen instructions. Interplay Server Execution User The Avid Interplay Installation Guide for Avid Interplay Engine, Avid Interplay Archive Engine, and Avid Interplay Access describes how to create a Server Execution User in the Section Running the Interplay Engine Under Another User Account. The section gives an incomplete path to the NXNServerUser.exe tool. The tool is located in the following directory on the Interplay Installer DVD: Installers\AssetMgr\Tools\NXNServerUser 24

Documentation Changes The Server Execution user (also called the Interplay Engine Execution user) must exist as a user on the Interplay Engine system. The user is necessary to allow users to delete media in an Interplay environment. For more information, see the Avid Interplay Software Installation and Configuration Guide. Mounting Drives If your system is connected to an Avid Unity ISIS, you must use lettered drive mapping for any workspaces that you write to. This includes workspaces you use for Send to Playback. n In Assist and Instinct, this means that your voice-over target workspace must be mounted using lettered drive mapping. The voice-over target workspace is used for Send to Playback as well as for voice-over recording. You use the Instinct/Assist Database Settings view in the Interplay Administrator to select the voice-over target workspace. For Avid editing applications, if you don t use lettered drive mapping you can not select the workspace in the Volume menu in the Capture tool, Media Creation tool, and the Import dialog boxes. In general, users of Avid editing applications, Assist, and Instinct can use letterless mounting for reading from a workspace. If you want write access to a particular workspace, you can use the following procedure. To mount to a lettered drive: 1. Open the ISIS Client Manager application. 2. If the workspace is already mounted as letterless, right click the workspace and select Unmount. 3. Right-click the workspace and select Mount To. 4. Select a drive letter For more information on mounting drives, see the Avid Unity ISIS Client Manager Help. 25

Fixed in v1.1 The following are some of the problems fixed for this release. Media Services Transcode: Temporary metadata files were not deleted from c:\temp\transcode directory. InterplayAssist: Editor-created sequences with fill showed as shotlists in Avid Assist. Interplay Assist: It took a long time to send multiple shotlists or masterclips to playback. Transcoding DNx media to uncompressed created a corrupted last frame. Media Indexer: Clients stayed connected to a Media Indexer even after it was removed from a High Availability Group. Media Indexer: When there were two Media Indexers in a High Availability Group and one crashed, Interplay Assist didn t reconnect to the Media Indexer that was left. Interplay Assist: Some subclips created by Avid Low Res Encoder contained bad data that prevented them from being played. Multi-res imported with alpha and titles re-created at different resolutions caused Exception: No Compressed Data Format found error. Multires: Transcoding a sequence created clips even if this option was disabled. Interplay Assist: Loading existing shotlist, then pressing Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y resulted in CM_INVALID_SEQ_POSITION error and froze the application. Avid Instinct: Clips in the storyline incorrectly displayed yellow borders but were allowed to Send to Playback. Avid Assist: Conducting a manual refresh of an EWC clip via the Alt+F5 command removed the clip (and any locators) from the logging panel. Consolidating audio and video to the same drive consolidated the clips to separate drives. Playing Mpeg2 IN to OUT in Media Composer Adrenaline resulted in a DecompStream error. Video Mixdowns failed for long, complex sequences. Restricted clips: Selecting do not show again for warning prevented you from seeing warnings on all restricted clips. 26

Limitations Limitations General n See the following ReadMe files for additional information: Interplay Engine, Interplay Archive, and Interplay Access Interplay Transfer Interplay Media Services Interplay Assist Avid Instinct Avid MediaStream ingest is not supported for this release. Avid Thunder native ingest is not supported for this release. Avid MediaStream is supported for Send to Playback by selecting the MEDIA_STREAM_PROFILE for the FTP options. Avid Thunder is supported for Send to Playback by selecting GENERIC_FTP_PROFILE for the FTP options. Media relatives might not get archived when you are using AutoArchive to archive a sequence. This problem happens because the default setting for Number of clips to submit to Interplay Archive at once is too small. Workaround: Change the value to a larger number, like 50. You can access this setting through the Interplay Service Configuration tool on the Service Settings tab for the Avid Automatic Archive, Transcode, and Transfer service. For details on changing this setting, see Configuring Auto Archive Using the Avid Interplay Service Configuration in the Interplay Media Services Setup and User s Guide or the Interplay Media Services Help. ProEncode Provider disk full errors: You might have to restart the ProEncode provider and Telestream FlipFactory systems if jobs fail due to a lack of disk space. Even if you make room on the disc, the jobs will fail until you restart the systems. Workaround: As part of your normal disk management operations, periodically check the size of the following folder: Program Files\Telestream\FlipFactory\http\Media Telestream copies work files to this folder and does not automatically delete them. Periodically delete the files in this folder. 27

XDCAM HD capture and Interplay Transfer: The following limitations exist for capturing XDCAM HD media with Interplay Transfer: Capturing XDCAM HD 17.5 Mbits and 35 Mbits media is supported Capturing 25 Mbits media is not supported Sequence with Color limiter effect on filler might crash Avid Assist. Workaround: Render the effect in the Avid editing application. Cannot save Boris Effects templates to bin after checkout from Interplay. Workaround: Save the template to a bin before checking the sequence into Interplay. Occasionally a transcode job fails with a false positive when you are using ingested material from an Avid editing application. Interplay Access: The Access media status buttons show that the file is online for subclip/sequence after deleting the metadata and media. Workaround: Perform an Update Status from Media Indexer command and the clips show the correct result. Bin display settings for the Interplay Window do not persist when changing folders. Workaround: You can select the media search tab and then go to the bin menu and select Set Default Interplay Window Display. However, by doing so, you change all folders views within interplay. Archive: When a sequence is archived that contains currently ingesting media, the sequence fails. The Jobs Details displays a vague error message containing the following text: file size was 0. The error message should be changed to: One or more clips are currently being captured elsewhere. Send to Archive cannot proceed. You cannot use Media Services Transcode features in this release to transcode progressive media. The operation fails and the system displays one of the following error messages: Cannot transcode media if source and target progressive/non-progressive attributes mismatch. Transcode exception- NO WRONG FORMAT Media found. Workaround: Use the Consolidate/Transcode command in the Avid editing application. 28

Limitations The Interplay Media Services status window is not reliable when you submit a ProEncode job that performs several encode jobs (for example, convert one source file to.mov,.wmv, and.mp4). The following problems occur: The status bar might turn green before all of the encode jobs are completed. Even if one of the subsequent encode jobs times out and fails, the bar stays green. The status bar might hang at 100% yellow indicating that an encode job is not finished, even though ProEncode has moved on to process the second job. Then it might turn green before all the jobs are complete. Workaround: When submitting ProEncode jobs that perform multiple encode jobs, use the ProEncode client window to view the job status. Transcode with Interplay Access: You cannot use Interplay Access to transcode a motion effect clip. Access does not display the Transcode option for motion effect clips. Workaround: Use the Bin > Consolidate/Transcode command in the Avid editing application. AutoArchive: If you attempt to perform an AutoArchive operation with a profile that does not exist, the system returns the following error: Unable to start job...providerexception: 20...Parameter missing... This can happen if you assign a profile to an Autoarchive folder and then delete the profile later on. Workaround: Assign or create a new profile for the autoarchive folder. Media Services Transcode: You cannot use Media Services Transcode to transcode a motion effect clip. The system displays the error Invalid Media Type. Transcode Failed. Workaround: Do one of the following: t Use the Bin > Consolidate/Transcode command in the Avid editing application to transcode the motion effect clip. t Transcode the source master clip that makes up the motion effect using either Media Services or Avid editor transcode. Supported SD resolutions, such as DV25, check in during capture. Only resolutions requiring the new execution model used for Nitris are affected (DNxHD and HD uncompressed). 29

If you restart the Media Services engine while the Archive, Restore, or Transcode providers are running, the services do not start up automatically, even if you have configured them to do so. Workaround: Quit and restart the services. Checking in a Duplicate clip with a restriction: If you create a duplicate of a clip that contains a restriction, and then check the clip into the Interplay database, the red triangle doesn t automatically appear on the duplicated clip. Workaround: Click the duplicated clip in the Interplay Window (to set focus to the window) and press F5 (to refresh). The red triangle appears. Custom Metadata fields: If you create custom metadata fields in the Interplay Administrator, Interplay Access, or Interplay Assist, you cannot delete them or turn them off for this release. However, you can now turn off the display of individual custom metadata fields. See the Avid Inteprlay Access User s Guide for more information. Rendered titles show two resolutions in Interplay Access. This is as designed. When the Avid editing application renders a title, it creates two media files: one in the target resolution, and a second in MXF 1:1 resolution. When you check the title in to Avid Interplay, both media files are checked in. Interplay Access lists the MXF 1:1 resolution as the current video resolution. When you delete a rendered title from Interplay Access, select both resolutions. If you perform a Bin View Save As operation for a bin that contains resolution columns, the resolution columns are not saved. Any other columns you saved will work correctly. When you apply that Bin View to another bin, the system displays the following error message: One or more columns in the view are not relevant in this kind of project and will not be displayed. Workaround: Manually add the resolution column to the bin. Batch Import of files containing Alpha: This problem occurs if you want to batch import files in SD and HD formats and then use Dynamic Relink to switch between the different formats. The problem occurs with QuickTime movies, graphics, and sequences that contain alpha. You can batch import the files and relink to the different formats, but if you exit and then restart the Avid editing application, you can no longer relink to the HD format. The system displays an Exception: NO Compressed Data Format found error message. Workaround: You cannot use Dynamic Relink with HD and SD clips that contain alpha. Import the HD files with alpha as individual clips. When you want to switch to HD format, edit the HD versions into your sequence. 30
