Upgrading your version of Adobe Premiere If you purchased your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme bundled with Adobe Premiere 6.5, on or after June 7, 2003, you will receive a free upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro. If you made your purchase prior to June 7, 2003, you will be able to order Adobe Premiere Pro directly from Adobe. For details, check our web site at 3 Recommended system requirements We have new recommended system requirements for this release of Matrox X.tools. The recommended system is now a Pentium 4 at 2.4 GHz, AMD Athlon XP 2100+, or faster. However, you may want to upgrade your system to meet Adobe Premiere Pro s recommended system requirements as explained in your Adobe documentation. Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro All Adobe Premiere procedures and dialog boxes in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide (May 1, 2003) are for Adobe Premiere 6.5. Many operations in Adobe Premiere Pro are similar to those described in your documentation, but there are a few changes you need to be aware of. The following sections provide important information about using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro. For more information about using Adobe Premiere Pro, see your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. Loading project presets The Matrox realtime plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro includes project presets that you can load to immediately apply appropriate RT.X100 Xtreme Pro settings. To load an RT.X100 Xtreme Pro project preset: 1 Start Adobe Premiere Pro. The New Project dialog box appears. 2 From the Matrox DV folder, select the preset that matches the type of project you want to create. For example, if your source material was recorded using the standard TV screen format, choose Matrox DV Standard. 3 Under Location, specify where you want to save the project on your A/V drive. 4 Under Name, specify a name for your project. 5 Click OK to apply the settings. Upgrading your version of Adobe Premiere

4 Note Your video source is not automatically selected for you when you choose a project preset. You ll need to specify your required Capture settings and General settings for your project as explained in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide and these release notes. Setting up your scratch disks When specifying the location of your scratch disks in Adobe Premiere Pro, make sure you follow the recommendations in your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. For example, store your video and audio files on an A/V drive used exclusively for that purpose. To specify your scratch disks: 1 Choose Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks. 2 Under Scratch Disks, select an appropriate A/V drive letter for each scratch disk type. 3 Click OK to save your preferences. Note To set up DV-1394 device control, choose Edit > Preferences > Device Control. Defining your General settings The Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box has several pages that you can use to specify various settings for editing in Adobe Premiere Pro on Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro. To open the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box, choose Project > Project Settings > General, and click the Playback Settings button. When you select an RT.X100 Xtreme Pro preset, such as Matrox DV Standard, your project s Editing Mode is automatically set to Matrox RT.X. For details on the settings available in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box, see your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide, and the following sections. Note You can t select your speed control method in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box as explained in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Instead, you can select the method you want for individual clips on the Timeline as explained in Selecting your speed control method on page 7. Selecting your editing aspect ratio When you select an RT.X100 Xtreme Pro project preset, the aspect ratio of the material you re editing or exporting is automatically set for you. Therefore, you don t specify your Editing Aspect Ratio in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box as explained in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

5 Specifying your scrubbing options On the General page of the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box, you can choose which field you want to display when scrubbing the Timeline, as well as select the Enable Premiere Pro Real-Time Preview option. To change your scrubbing options: 1 Choose Project > Project Settings > General. 2 Click the Playback Settings button. 3 Under Scrubbing Options on the General page, select the particular options you want: $ Scrubbing Type Select which field (Field 1 or Field 2) you want to display when scrubbing the Timeline. When you scrub the Timeline, or pause or stop playback on the Timeline, only one field is displayed (except when using the render-scrub feature). If you see a glitch in your project when you play it back from the Timeline, but notice that when you scrub on the Timeline to find the glitch, you can t find it, you may need to switch the field you re scrubbing over. You can then return to the Timeline and find the problem. $ Enable Premiere Pro Real-Time Preview By default, this option is selected. This lets you preview all Premiere Pro video effects and non-realtime transitions when you scrub on the Timeline (that is, a render-scrub is performed automatically). If you notice sluggishness when scrubbing on the Timeline, try clearing this option. Note If you clear this option, any segments containing Premiere Pro video effects and non-realtime transitions will display as a not yet rendered (X) graphic until you render those segments. To display the not yet rendered segments, you can render-scrub the Timeline (ALT+drag the current-time indicator). You can also use the render-scrub feature to display both fields on your NTSC or PAL monitor while scrubbing. 4 Click OK to return to the Project Settings dialog box. Selecting your realtime effect settings As explained in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide, you can specify default cropping settings for your realtime Matrox effects, as well as select which Premiere Pro transitions you d like to play back in real time. This Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

6 release of Matrox X.tools also provides realtime support for Premiere Pro s Motion effect and Frame Hold feature. To select your realtime effect settings: 1 Choose Project > Project Settings > General. 2 Click the Playback Settings button, then click the Realtime Effects tab. 3 Under Realtime Premiere Pro Effects, select the particular options you want: $ Enable realtime Motion effects By default, this option is selected. Matrox provides realtime playback of the Motion effect by emulating Premiere Pro s non-realtime version of the effect. If you don t like the realtime version of the Motion effect, you can clear this option to revert to Premiere Pro s version that requires rendering. For more information about the Motion effect, see Applying a Motion effect on page 8. $ Enable Frame Hold By default, this option is selected. Matrox provides realtime support of Premiere Pro s Frame Hold to allow you to freeze on a clip s In Point, Out Point, or at Marker 0. If you encounter repeated frames when playing back a Timeline containing nested sequences or clips with negative speed changes, you can clear this option. If you clear this option, however, all realtime Frame Hold effects applied to clips on the Timeline will be ignored. Note If you select Deinterlace in Premiere Pro s Frame Hold dialog box, your clips will require rendering. The Hold Filters option is not supported on Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro. 4 Click OK to return to the Project Settings dialog box. Defining your Video Rendering and Audio settings When you select an RT.X100 Xtreme Pro project preset, your Video Rendering and Audio settings for editing on Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro are automatically set for you. Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

7 You can specify additional Video Rendering and Audio settings as explained in your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. How to apply a Matrox video transition in Adobe Premiere Pro In Adobe Premiere Pro, all of the video transitions can be found in the Video Transitions bin. By default, the Matrox transitions are found in the Matrox folder. An easy way to create a Matrox transition is to drag the current-time indicator to the point where two clips meet, then drag the desired effect from the Video Transitions bin in the Effects window to the edit point between the two clips. To set up your Matrox transition, click the transition s icon on the Timeline, then click the Custom button under your transition in the Effect Controls window. This opens the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box. Note Because Premiere Pro allows you to apply a transition on any track of the Timeline, you may not always get the desired result when applying a Matrox transition to a single clip when there is another clip on a track beneath it. The result may be that the segment is not realtime (such as with a Matrox particle transition), or that the transition doesn t display correctly (such as with a Matrox page curl transition). In these cases, you should apply a Matrox video effect instead of a transition. Make sure that you apply Matrox transitions between clips on the same track. How to apply a Matrox video effect in Adobe Premiere Pro The Matrox realtime plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro allows you to apply many realtime video effects to your clips. To apply a Matrox video effect to a clip, drag the desired effect from the Video Effects bin in the Effects window onto the clip on the Timeline. By default, the Matrox video effects are found in the Matrox folder. To set up your Matrox video effect, click the Setup button ( ) beside your effect in the Effect Controls window. This opens the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box. Note If you can t see the Effects window, choose Window > Effects. If you can t see the Effect Controls window, choose Window > Effect Controls. Selecting your speed control method You can choose the type of speed control that s best suited for individual clips in your Premiere Pro projects. By default, the speed control method of each clip on the Timeline is set to Frame Blend Speed Changes, which interpolates between the video fields, and typically works well on standard or slow-paced Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

8 video and camera pans. If your project contains a series of fast-action clips, however, you may want to change the speed control of these clips to mimic the classic bob and weave algorithm found on Betacam machines. To change the speed control method for a clip on the Timeline: 1 Right-click the clip on the Timeline, and choose Field Options. 2 Select Frame Blend Speed Changes to use the speed control method that s recommended for standard or slow-paced video and camera pans. For fast-action video, you may get better results by clearing this option. Remarks If you ve increased a clip s speed to a value from 101% to 199%, you may experience dropped frames when playing back the clip with Frame Blend Speed Changes selected. This is because of the high demand placed on your system s CPU. If this happens, clear Frame Blend Speed Changes to allow your RT.X100 Xtreme Pro to analyze these segments and drop frames systematically to smooth out your fast-motion effect. The Frame Blend Speed Changes option is not supported for speed changes over 200%. About Adobe Premiere Pro s fixed effects In Adobe Premiere Pro, every clip on the Timeline has pre-applied fixed effects. When you select the clip on the Timeline, your fixed effects appear in the Effect Controls window. All fixed effects can be adjusted in the Effect Controls window, as well as the Monitor, Timeline, and Audio Mixer windows. Adobe Premiere Pro s fixed effects include the Motion, Opacity, and Volume effects. This release of Matrox X.tools provides realtime support for all of Premiere Pro s fixed effects. Applying a Motion effect The Motion effect lets you position, rotate, and scale your clips directly in the Program view of the Monitor window by creating keyframes that contain one or more effect settings for a particular clip. When you select the Motion effect in the Effect Controls window, square handles appear on the clip in the Program view that allow you to adjust the clip s properties. The Premiere Pro Motion effect will remain realtime unless you do any of the following: Clear the Enable realtime Motion effects option in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box. For more information, see Selecting your realtime effect settings on page 5. Select a keyframe interpolation method other than Normal Out or Hold Out for starting keyframes, and Normal In or Hold In for ending keyframes. To change a keyframe s interpolation method, right-click your keyframe in the Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

9 Effect Controls window or on the Timeline. (This also applies to the Opacity effect.) Select different keyframe interpolation methods for rotation, position, and scale. For example, if you apply Normal Out to a starting keyframe for a rotation, and Hold Out to a starting keyframe for a scale, your effect will not be realtime. Adjust the rotation of a clip with an anchor point applied to it. Apply more than two Motion effects in any given segment on the Timeline. For more information about the Motion effect, see your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. Applying an Alpha Adjust effect In Adobe Premiere Pro, graphics clips that have an alpha-key channel on any track on the Timeline are automatically alpha-keyed in real time, so you no longer have to apply an Alpha Channel Key to set up a realtime graphics overlay as explained in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. This release of Matrox X.tools provides limited realtime support of Premiere Pro s Alpha Adjust effect to let you ignore the alpha-key channel of a clip on the Timeline to turn off an alpha-key effect. To apply an Alpha Adjust video effect to a clip, drag the desired effect from the Video Effects bin in the Effects window onto the clip on the Timeline. The Alpha Adjust effect is located in the Keying folder. To set up your effect, click the small triangle to the left of your effect in the Effect Controls window. To ignore the alpha-key channel of a clip, select Ignore Alpha. Note The Opacity, Invert Alpha, and Mask Only options are not supported in real time. For more information about the Alpha Adjust effect, see your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. RT.X100 Xtreme Pro realtime rules In your Adobe Premiere Pro projects, you can use various combinations of realtime Matrox RT.X CPU-based effects, hardware-accelerated effects, and Adobe Premiere Pro realtime transitions and fixed effects, all with transparency. Note Realtime means that you won t need to render the segment on the Timeline to perform a realtime export to disk or export to DV tape (that is, there is no red indicator bar above the segment). You ll still be able to preview many segments that require rendering, as explained in What is XtremePreview? in the Setting Up Realtime Effects with Adobe Premiere chapter of your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

10 The Matrox CPU-based effects are color corrections, chroma keys, luma keys, and speed changes applied to a clip. The CPU-based effects can be applied only to video clips in real time. The Matrox hardware-accelerated effects are all the other RT.X effects (such as page curls, particles, Premiere Pro realtime transitions, and fades). The hardware-accelerated effects can be applied to video or graphics clips in real time. Note This section explains the rules and guidelines you ll need to follow in order to keep your effects realtime, assuming that you re using a recommended system, as explained in Recommended system requirements on page 3. Supported graphics formats All full-screen single-frame graphics supported by Adobe Premiere Pro are supported in real time on Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro. This includes all titling formats that Premiere Pro supports, such as Adobe Title Designer.prtl files. For details on the supported formats, see your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. General rule The general rule to follow to avoid the red indicator bar when setting up your realtime effects is that in any given segment, you can use up to two video clips (.avi files), and up to four single-frame graphics clips. Each clip in the segment can have a fade applied to it. A fade can be any one of the following: Opacity changes applied to a clip, such as by adjusting the Opacity handles of a clip. An Adobe Premiere Pro Cross Dissolve. An alpha-keyed graphics clip. Combining effects In any given segment, you can apply the following RT.X effects in real time: 1 color correction effect, and 1 chroma key or luma key effect, or 1 additional color correction effect, and 2 speed changes, and at least 1 Matrox hardware-accelerated effect (such as a page curl or a Premiere Pro realtime transition). If XtremePreview is enabled, you may be able to combine more than 1 Matrox hardware-accelerated effect in your segment in real time, depending on the type and complexity of the effects (excluding Matrox effects based on pattern files). Note Certain complex Matrox effects, such as particles, may not be realtime when applied to a segment containing multiple graphics clips. Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

11 Order of effects The order in which you apply your RT.X effects is important when you combine effects. When applying multiple RT.X effects to a segment, follow this order: 1 Color correction effect(s). 2 Chroma key, luma key, or Matrox hardware-accelerated effect. For example, you can apply a page curl to a color correction and not require rendering. If, however, you apply a color correction to a page curl, the clip will require rendering (unless you change the order of the effects). Note If this order is not followed, you ll still be able to preview your segment when using XtremePreview. To change the order of effects applied to a particular clip, you can drag and drop effects in Premiere Pro s Effect Controls window. In the following example, Matrox Page Curls appears after Matrox Color Corrections. Therefore, the clip will remain realtime: If you want to use Premiere Pro s nested sequence feature to combine RT.X effects, you must respect the following priority sequence when applying the effects: 1 Color correction effect(s). 2 Chroma key or luma key. 3 Matrox hardware-accelerated effect (such as a page curl, advanced DVE, or Premiere Pro realtime transition). For example, if your nested sequence includes a chroma key effect, you can apply a Matrox page curl effect to the sequence and it won t require rendering. If, however, you apply a chroma key effect to a nested sequence that includes a page curl effect, you ll have to render the sequence. For information on creating nested sequences, see your Adobe Premiere Pro User Guide. Restrictions If you follow the rules listed above, your effects will remain realtime. You will, however, need to render your effects when you do any of the following: Using Adobe Premiere Pro with Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

12 Select Force render when you set up an effect in the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box. Perform a Matrox realtime export to disk or DV tape of a segment that has dropped frames. Place effects or clips too close on the Timeline, as explained in the section How to place your effects to avoid rendering in the Setting Up Realtime Effects with Adobe Premiere chapter of your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Note The Matrox old movie effect (available as an add-on from your RT.X installation CD) follows the same guideline as the Matrox particle effect, that is, leave a gap of at least two seconds between the end of one Matrox old movie effect and the start of the next. Use a graphics roll, crawl, animation, or non-full screen graphics clip (only full-screen single-frame graphics are supported in real time). Apply a Matrox chroma key, luma key, or color correction to a graphics clip. Add a non-matrox effect or transition, such as a non-realtime Adobe Premiere Pro video effect or transition. For details on selecting which Adobe Premiere Pro transitions you want to play back in real time, see Selecting your realtime effect settings in the Defining your Adobe Premiere settings chapter of your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Apply any Field Options to a clip (other than Frame Blend Speed Changes), such as Always Deinterlace or Flicker Removal. Apply a freeze-frame effect to a clip using the Frame Hold command with the Deinterlace option selected (rendering won t be required if you clear the Deinterlace option). Note When you play back the Timeline, non-realtime segments display as a not yet rendered (X) graphic. About the Adobe Photoshop plug-in The Adobe Photoshop plug-in, together with your Matrox RT.X hardware, lets you display your current Adobe Photoshop (version 6.0 or later) image on your NTSC or PAL video monitor. This lets you see the exact color temperature, safe-title area, and any interlaced artifacts in your image as you work. How to use the plug-in 1 Start Adobe Photoshop. 2 Open your image or create a new image file. Note Only image modes of Grayscale, RGB Color, CMYK Color, and Lab Color are supported in 8 bits/channel or 16 bits/channel. About the Adobe Photoshop plug-in

13 3 To display the current image on your NTSC or PAL video monitor, choose File > Export > Matrox WYSIWYG Video Preview. This opens the Matrox Preview Setup dialog box: Note We recommend that you use Photoshop actions to apply the Matrox settings. For more information, see Using Photoshop actions with the plug-in on page Under Output Size, select the size that you want your image to be displayed on your NTSC or PAL video monitor. For example, select Original to maintain your image s original size. Note Images that are larger than full-screen size are always displayed as full-screen on your NTSC or PAL video monitor. 5 Under Render Preview Type, select one of the following options for previewing the rendering of your image on your video monitor: $ Video and alpha Select this to view your image keyed over a black background. $ Alpha only Select this to view only your image s grayscale alpha-key (matte) information. Note If you make changes to your image, you ll have to repeat steps 3 to 5 (or re-apply a Photoshop action) to update the image on your NTSC or PAL video monitor. Using Photoshop actions with the plug-in A series of tasks can be automated to create a Photoshop action. The various Matrox WYSIWYG plug-in options have been recorded as actions to simplify applying the settings you want. To use the Matrox WYSIWYG actions: 1 Click the triangle on the right side of the Actions palette, then choose Load Actions. Tip If you don t see the Actions palette, choose Window > Show Actions or Window > Actions. About the Adobe Photoshop plug-in

14 2 In the Load dialog box, locate the folder where Adobe Photoshop is installed, then choose the Presets\Photoshop Actions subfolder. Select the file Matrox WYSIWYG.atn, then click Load. Note You ll have to perform the above steps only once to add the Matrox actions to the palette. 3 When you want to display the current image on your NTSC or PAL video monitor, simply select the action required, then press the Play selection button in the Actions palette. Tip You can also set keyboard shortcuts for each Matrox WYSIWYG action. For more information on actions, see your Adobe Photoshop documentation. Using the Windows Media version 9 video codec with MediaExport Although MediaExport supports the Windows Media version 9 video codec, all of the Windows Media standard encoding profiles use the Windows Media version 8 video codec. To use the version 9 video codec to encode your video, you can customize a standard encoding profile by selecting the version 9 video codec from the Codec Options drop-down list. For more information, see Modifying standard profile settings to create a customized profile in the Using Matrox MediaExport chapter of your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Changes to the WYSIWYG DirectShow Control Panel The WYSIWYG DirectShow Control Panel includes an option to let you mute the associated audio (.wav) file. By default, playback of the associated audio (.wav) file is enabled. Some DirectShow programs, such as DVDit! SE, automatically play back associated audio files for video clips. Therefore, if you hear an echo when playing back video on your NTSC or PAL video monitor, you should disable playback of the associated audio file by clearing Play associated audio (.wav) file, and restart your DirectShow application for the change to take effect. For details on how to configure the WYSIWYG DirectShow Control Panel, see the chapter Using the WYSIWYG DirectShow Control Panel in your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Installation and User Guide. Using the Windows Media version 9 video codec with MediaExport

A note about DVD capacities When choosing a data rate to create MPEG files for DVD authoring, make sure that you take into account the actual storage capacity of your DVD disk. This is because of a difference in terminology used by DVD manufacturers and accepted computer conventions. For example, commercially available 4.7 G (4.7 billion bytes) blank DVD disks have an actual storage capacity of 4.38 GB. 15 Fixes in this release of Matrox X.tools The following are fixes provided in Matrox X.tools build 5078: If you place a.jpg after an Adobe Premiere Pro title on the Timeline, the.jpg will now display correctly. (Ref# & 28345) If you shorten a clip to which you ve applied a Matrox effect with the Force Render option selected, then later resize the clip to its original length, the clip will now play back correctly. (Ref# 27198) You can now capture 32 khz, 12-bits/sample audio from a DV-1394 device without audio distortion during capture, or in the resulting file. (Ref# 29233) You can now place clips on the Timeline past the 3-hour limit without encountering any errors. The limit of each sequence of clips on the Timeline is now 24 hours. (Ref# 28229) When you import clips into your Matrox RT.X project, or export clips from the Premiere Pro Timeline, your clips will now appear with the pixel aspect ratio specified in your project preset. (Ref# & 29717) If you export only audio, you will no longer be prompted for the location of the video file at the end of the export. (Ref# 26878) Operational limitations The following are operational limitations for Matrox X.tools build 5078: Installation and general operation When installing Matrox X.tools, if you try to change the Destination Folder in the Choose Destination Location dialog box more than once, the X.tools Setup program may stop responding. If this happens, click Cancel, then choose Browse again. (Ref# 26783) Your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro system does not support the hibernation feature in Windows. If you try to put your computer into hibernation, a message will be displayed to warn you that the system hibernation has failed. (Ref# 26458) If you use Symantec s Norton Utilities on your Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro system, you may experience errors starting the RT.X menu. (Ref# 28988) A note about DVD capacities

16 Operational limitations If you receive an IKernel.exe application error message when installing or uninstalling Matrox X.tools, download the fix available in the Support Knowledgebase (document ID Q108020) on the InstallShield web site at (Ref# 29080) You may encounter installation problems if you try to install Matrox X.tools on a computer running the Japanese version of Microsoft Windows XP. As a workaround, log on to Windows XP using single-byte characters instead of double-byte characters. (Ref# 30017) Adobe Premiere Pro and the Matrox realtime plug-in If you import.tga files created using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 to your Premiere Pro Timeline, the alpha channel will not be visible. If you frequently create.tga files using Photoshop 7.0 to use on your Timeline, you may want to upgrade to Photoshop 7.0.1, or download the Targa plug-in available in the Support Knowledgebase on the Adobe web site at (Ref# 28630) If your video drive is nearly full, serious errors can occur in Premiere Pro when capturing or exporting. To avoid these errors, make sure you have adequate space on your A/V drive before starting a capture or export to file. As a reminder, one minute of DV data requires approximately 175 MB of storage. (Ref# & 29108) If you re using a RAID controller that has a system monitoring utility, such as a Promise FastTrak66, you may notice some Timeline sluggishness or capture freezes in Adobe Premiere Pro. Please disable this system monitoring utility if it is active on the Windows taskbar. Matrox DV-1394 Device Control can be used when capturing or recording material over the 1394 interface, and also when capturing the analog input from your DV-1394 device, such as the composite input. If you want to perform an analog capture that is not from your DV-1394 device (such as to capture from a composite or S-Video deck), make sure you set Device Control to None by choosing Edit > Preferences > Device Control. (Ref# 26824) When using an Editing Mode other than Matrox RT.X in Adobe Premiere Pro, you won t be able to use Matrox effects, even though they are listed as available in the Effects window. (Ref# 21119) If you add a numbered marker to a clip, you ll see the marker number on the clip in the Timeline, but not in the display of the clip in the Monitor window or Clip window. (Ref# 18036) If you export only audio, you will have to import the resulting.wav file manually. (Ref# 29335) Windows XP provides the option of formatting your drives using the NTFS or FAT32 file system. Your A/V drives must be formatted using NTFS for

17 use with Matrox X.tools because NTFS overcomes FAT32 file size limitations. When a hard drive is formatted using FAT32, files saved to this drive cannot exceed 4 gigabytes in size (approximately 20 minutes of DV video). If you do format your hard drive using FAT32, Adobe Premiere Pro will freeze if you try to perform an analog capture greater than 4 gigabytes in size. (Ref# 27186) When performing an.m2v capture of four hours or longer, the associated.wav file may be corrupted. This is because the maximum size supported for a.wav file is 2 GB. (Ref# 26560) If you are using a Matrox dual-head display card, to be able to preview video (such as in Premiere Pro s Monitor window) on your second monitor, you must set the resolution and color display settings on your secondary monitor to the same as your primary monitor. (Ref# 27042) Importing.jpg files that were created with a Nikon Coolpix 5000 digital camera into Adobe Premiere Pro may cause Premiere Pro to stop responding. As a workaround, you can open the.jpg files in Adobe Photoshop, rename and save the files, then import them into Premiere Pro. (Ref #27545) Exporting a clip directly from the Bin will only export the video portion of your clip. If you want to export both the audio and video portions of a clip, export from the Adobe Premiere Pro Timeline. (Ref# 27449) Your video may appear jittery when playing back a segment containing more than four single-frame graphics clips from the Premiere Pro Timeline. (Ref# 28626) If you export video to an.m2v file using Matrox Realtime Export to Disk, you may see a black line at the top of your video when you play back the file. As a workaround, import the.m2v file to the Premiere Pro Timeline, then export it again. You can also use Matrox MediaExport to create.m2v files because MediaExport uses the Ligos MPEG codec (which is not affected by this problem). MediaExport, however, can t export your video in real time. (Ref# 28815) You may notice flickering on an Adobe Premiere Pro title with rolling credits applied. As a workaround, shorten the title on both ends, then right-click the title and choose Video Options > Field Options. In the Field Options dialog box, select Flicker Removal. (Ref# 29255) Inscriber TitleExpress is not supported for use with Adobe Premiere Pro. (Ref# 29612) You may receive a message that there is an error in a segment of the Timeline if you try to import an Adobe Premiere 6.5 project that contains video transitions that are the same length as the clips they are between on the Timeline. (Ref# 29375) Operational limitations

18 You may not notice a difference in video quality if you change the video quality in the Monitor window from Draft Quality to Automatic Quality, however, we recommend setting the video quality of your clips to Highest Quality. (Ref# 29626) Changing the magnification of clips in the Source or Program view of the Monitor window is not supported. (Ref# 29461) Applying Safe Margins to clips in the Source or Program view of the Monitor window is not supported. (Ref# 29511) If you play a clip in the Source view of the Monitor window, then right-click the Monitor window and choose Display Mode > Vectorscope, playback will stop. (Ref# 29669) If you import a folder into the Project window, then click the Automate to Sequence button with a Matrox video transition selected as your default transition, your default transition will be a Cross Dissolve. To set up your transition, you ll have to click the Custom button twice. (Ref# 29428) If you gang the Reference monitor to the Program view of the Monitor window with the purpose of comparing frames of a segment side by side, you will not be able to hear the audio portion of your segment when the Reference monitor is open, and you may experience stability issues with Premiere Pro. (Ref# 29670) Applying the Hold Filters option to ignore the keyframe settings of a freeze-frame effect in Premiere Pro (Clip > Video Options > Frame Hold) is not supported. (Ref# & 29786) If you scrub a clip in the Thumbnail viewer of the Project window while it is playing, you will not hear the audio portion of your clip. (Ref# 29814) If you stop playback of the Timeline with the left or right arrow key, you may notice as you move frame-by-frame over the area where two clips meet that the position of the current-time indicator is one frame off that of the frame displayed in the Monitor window. (Ref# 29724) If you choose to export a clip with a Matrox CPU-based effect applied (such as a chroma key) to a.tga file, the effect may not display correctly in the resulting.tga file. As a workaround, export your clip to a Matrox RT.X Single-frame AVI file, then re-import the clip, and export it to a.tga file. (Ref# 29831) If you enable a track for recording in the Audio Mixer dialog box for the purposes of adding a Voice Over, then play back the Timeline, you may lose the audio portion of your clip. As a workaround, export your clip to an.avi file, then re-import the file without selecting a Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro project preset to add a Voice Over. (Ref# 29832) Operational limitations

19 If you import a project created with Adobe Premiere 6.5 into Premiere Pro, segments with Premiere s 6.5 Video Opacity rubberband control applied, such as to fade-in and fade-out, may not display correctly. (Ref# 29449) If you overlap clips on the Timeline with a Matrox transition between them, and apply a negative speed change to one of the clips, you will not hear audio when previewing the segment in the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box. As a workaround, press the spacebar to render the audio before setting up your Matrox transition. (Ref# 29895) If you have a nested sequence that contains clips with a Matrox transition, Matrox video effects, and negative speed changes applied to it, your video transitions and effects may not display correctly when playing back the Timeline. (Ref# 29901) If you encounter any of the following problems when playing back the Timeline, you can clear the Enable Frame Hold option in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box. For more information, see Selecting your realtime effect settings on page 5. $ If you apply a Matrox transition to overlapping clips on the Timeline with a negative speed change applied to one of the clips, you may experience repeated frames when you play back the segment containing the transition. (Ref# 29488) $ If you have a nested sequence that contains a clip with a negative speed change applied to it, your nested sequence may not display correctly when playing back the Timeline. (Ref# 29578) $ Playing back a nested sequence containing a segment with a transition may result in repeated frames if the original transition has an Alignment of Center at Cut or End at Cut. To avoid this problem, use an Alignment of Start at Cut. (Ref# 29942) Certain Matrox transitions applied between clips with another clip beneath them on the Timeline may not display the underlying clip. As a workaround, you can apply Premiere Pro s Alpha Adjust video effect to one of the clips with the transition to allow the underlying clip to display. (Ref# 29939) If you use Premiere Pro s Edit Original command to open a single-frame graphics clip in Photoshop, you may not be able to save your edited file in Photoshop if your graphics clip is on the Premiere Pro Timeline. (Ref# 29696) If you trim a clip in the Source view of the Monitor window, your changes will not appear on your NTSC or PAL video monitor. (Ref# 29624) In the Trim window, the Trim Forward and Trim Backward buttons may not respond when trimming a clip. As a workaround, trim directly in the Trim window first, and then use the Trim Forward and Trim Backward buttons. (Ref# 29997) Operational limitations

20 Operational limitations If you trim clips directly on the Timeline using the Slip and Slide tools, your video may not display certain frames accurately in the Source and Program views of the Monitor window. (Ref# 30048) If you apply a transition to overlapping clips on the Timeline, then select the Motion effect in the Effect Controls window and scrub on the Timeline, you may experience freezing or repeated frames if you later play back the segment. (Ref# 29908) If you put a Matrox transition between two clips on the Timeline, and then change a clip setting or apply a video effect to one of the clips, the new clip setting or video effect may not be applied to the segment containing the transition. As a workaround, after changing the clip setting or applying the video effect, click the Custom button to enter the Matrox Effect Setup dialog box, and then click OK to re-apply the proper settings. (Ref# & 29426) Shuttling quickly through a clip in the Source view of the Monitor window may cause the current-time indicator to jump to the beginning of the clip, or display the first frame of the clip on the Timeline instead of the clip in the Source view. (Ref# & 29980) Make sure that Premiere Pro s Capture window is open prior to starting your batch capture or the first clip in your clip list may not be captured. (Ref# 30104) To avoid problems during batch captures, make sure to disable Premiere Pro s Auto Save feature by clearing Automatically Save Projects (Edit > Preferences > Auto Save). (Ref# 30081) If you change capture formats while performing a capture in Premiere Pro, the Capture window may stop responding. As a workaround, stop your original capture before changing formats. (Ref# 29856) If your project contains numerous titles created with Premiere Pro s Title Designer, you may notice a long delay when importing your project to the Timeline. As a workaround, save your titles as.tga files instead of.prtl files. (Ref# 30026) If you import a clip directly from the Monitor window onto the Timeline and play it back, the video portion of the clip may appear jerky, and you may lose the audio. As a workaround, scrub the clip on the Timeline before playback. (Ref# 30149) If your video source is connected and playing when you choose to verify your scratch disks settings after starting Premiere Pro (Edit > Preferences > Scratch Disks), your NTSC or PAL video monitor may display or flash video and play back audio from your DV-1394 device. (Ref# 29515) The Japanese topic titles do not display correctly in the Contents of the Matrox online help for the Japanese RT.X add-on effects. However, the

21 topics will display correctly and you can also refer to the Index to locate information. (Ref# 29634) DV-1394 devices with Adobe Premiere Pro For an up-to-date list of supported DV-1394 devices, check the Matrox RT.X Support section of our web site at If your DV-1394 device is not supported, you may not be able to accurately use device control for batch capture and export to tape. In this case, you can manually capture your clips and manually activate DV recording to record material onto tape. For other important information about using DV-1394 devices, see the section titled Things you need to know about using DV-1394 devices in the Defining Your Adobe Premiere Settings chapter of the manual for your Matrox RT.X system. When performing a DV-1394 batch capture, you may lose the video display in the Capture window. The display will resume at the start of the next clip in the batch list. (Ref# 21026) When using the go to time code feature of Adobe Premiere Pro s Capture window, typing a number higher than the last frame on your tape will not cue to the end of your tape. (Ref# 17998) If Always output to 1394 is already selected when connecting a DV-1394 device, wait for a sound confirming connection before scrubbing on the Timeline. (Ref# 26966) If you have the Always Output to 1394 option selected, you may encounter the following problems: $ Premiere Pro may freeze when playing back a complex project. $ You may receive an error message stating that your system can t sustain the required data rates when performing a preview or scrub. Turning your DV-1394 device off and then back on allows Windows Plug and Play to re-detect your device, and normal functionality should be restored to Premiere Pro. If you experience this problem repeatedly, clear Always Output to 1394 in the Matrox Advanced Settings dialog box. (Ref# 27377) When performing an export to DV tape, make sure that your DV-1394 device is set to use the time code format (drop frame or non-drop frame) that you ve striped on your DV tape. (Ref# 26814) If you have a project that contains non-realtime segments, and you export your project to DV tape (choose File > Export > Export to Tape), pressing Cancel while the files are rendering may cause Premiere Pro to freeze. (Ref# 29474) In the Matrox DV Export to Tape dialog box, if you click the Browse button to add a logo (.tga) to your recording, the name of the.tga file will be Operational limitations
