5 About these release notes These release notes provide a list of new features and important last-minute information applicable to the Service Pack 1 updater for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0. This information supplements the following documentation: 1 Matrox RT2000 Installation and User Guide, (March 30, 2001) Matrox RT2500 Installation and User Guide, (March 30, 2001) Matrox RT Release Notes, (April 10, 2001) Matrox RT Readme file installed by the Service Pack 1 updater (July 31, 2001) Note Matrox often releases software updates and Service Packs. To make sure that you have the latest available software for your RT2000 or RT2500 system, check the Customer Support section of our web site at: What s new in Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0? The Service Pack 1 updater for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0 provides a number of updates and fixes to Matrox Video Tools. Here are the main features of Service Pack 1: Windows 98 SE support Matrox Video Tools version 3.0 with Service Pack 1 has been tested and approved for use with Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows 98 SE. For installation instructions related to Windows 98 SE, see Installing Matrox Video Tools on a computer with Windows 98 SE on page 3. Intel Pentium 4 support Support for Intel Pentium 4 processor-based systems has been added with this release. Please note that only recent generations of the Intel Pentium 4 systems or motherboards will be compatible with the RT2500. For more information, please see the RT2500 System Recommendations section of our support web site at: These limitations do not affect Matrox RT2000. About these release notes

6 2 New colorization settings The Matrox colorization video effect now has support for the transform settings, and includes a Border Softness setting and an option to lock the Red, Green, and Blue sliders. Many improvements and fixes Improvements were made to Matrox Video Tools in a number of areas. For a complete list of Matrox Video Tools 3.0 Service Pack 1 fixes, see Fixes in Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0 on page 12. Important Due to a fix in Service Pack 1 relating to various problems with exports to DV format, such as artifacts or repeated and missing frames causing jerky video, you will no longer be able to preview your video in the Premiere Monitor window or on your NTSC or PAL video monitor during a DV export. We expect to provide a workaround shortly that will enable the preview. Check our web site for an update on this issue. Installing Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0 To install Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0, follow these steps: 1 Download the file 30sp1final.exe from our web site at videoweb/support. 2 Make sure to close any running Matrox RT software, such as Adobe Premiere, etc. 3 Run the file to update your Matrox Video Tools installation. 4 Once the update is complete, restart your computer. Note You can install this final version of the Service Pack 1 updater on top of any Preview Release of Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0 that you may have previously installed. 7 Installing Matrox Video Tools on a computer with Windows 98 SE The following sections describe how to install Matrox Video Tools on a Windows 98 SE system. Please follow the instructions based on your system needs. Important During the installation of Matrox Video Tools version 3.0, you ll see messages advising you that Windows 98 SE is not supported. You can disregard these messages, and continue with the installation. 3 Installing Matrox Video Tools software on RT2500 with Windows 98 SE Installing the software This section explains how to install Matrox Video Tools 3.0 on a computer with a new installation of Windows 98 SE. You ll need your Matrox RT CD and your Windows 98 SE installation CD. Note Please make sure that no 1394 devices are connected to your computer during the Matrox Video Tools Setup process. 1 Make sure you ve prepared your computer as instructed in your Matrox RT2500 Installation and User Guide. This includes: Preparing your system. Plan your storage configuration. Install Windows 98 SE. Make sure your main display is configured for a resolution of 1024x768 with 16- or 32-bit color. Install Adobe Premiere. Installing your RT2500 card and connecting your devices. 2 Turn on your computer and insert the Matrox RT CD in your CD-ROM drive. Windows detects new hardware when you restart. 3 Windows reports finding a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA). This is the advanced graphic chipset on your RT When the Add New Hardware Wizard starts, click Next to start the wizard and then Next again when prompted to search for a driver. 8 4 a When the wizard prompts you to select locations for its search, make sure all the location check boxes are not selected. This restricts the search to the standard VGA driver that s already running. b The search finds the standard VGA driver and prompts you to accept this choice. Click Next to continue. c Click Finish and then Yes to restart your computer. 5 If you have a Plug-and-Play monitor, Windows may detect it when your computer restarts. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the required driver. 6 Windows now detects a new PCI Multimedia Device (that is, your RT2500 codec card). The Add New Hardware Wizard starts again so that you can install the required driver. 7 Click Next to start the wizard and then Next again when prompted to search for a driver. 8 When the wizard prompts you to select locations for its search, select CD-ROM drive so that Windows can find the RT2500 codec card software on your RT CD. 9 Click Next to start the search for the driver on the CD-ROM drive. 10 The search locates the RT2500 driver and prompts you to accept this choice. Click Next to continue. After Windows copies the necessary files to your computer, click Finish to continue. Your system will restart. 11 Windows now detects your 1394 Host Controller. a Insert your Windows 98 SE CD in your CD-ROM drive. b When the Add New Hardware Wizard starts, click Next to start the wizard and then Next again when prompted to search for a driver. This restricts the search to the Windows driver database The wizard may detect several newer files, but it is recommended that you keep all existing files. Click Yes each time you are prompted to keep existing files. After the system copies the files, click Finish. Your system will restart. 13 When prompted, re-insert your Matrox RT CD in your CD-ROM drive. Windows automatically starts the Matrox Video Tools Setup program, which installs Microsoft DirectX, the realtime plug-in for Adobe Premiere, and various other essential RT2500 software components. Follow the onscreen instructions. 14 When the Matrox Video Tools installation is complete, Setup offers you a choice of installing the Pixélan SpiceMaster demo, installing the RT wallpaper as your default desktop wallpaper, and viewing the Matrox RT Readme file. Choose the items you want and follow the onscreen instructions. 15 You ll be prompted to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Setting your RT2500 display properties After you restart your system, your RT2500 Flex 3D driver will prompt you to set your Matrox RT2500 display properties. 10 6 1 After reading the onscreen instructions, click OK to open the Display Properties dialog box. 2 Under Display, select your Matrox RT Make sure that the following settings are applied: Colors set to High Color (16 bit). Screen area set to 640x480 pixels. Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor is selected. 4 Click OK and restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Completing the installation 1 The Matrox Disk Benchmark program starts after your computer restarts. This program tests the speed of your hard drives and reports the results. 2 When you ve finished testing your hard drives, make sure you download and install the Service Pack 1 updater for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0, available from the Customer Support section of our web site at 3 Once you ve installed the Service Pack 1 updater, you can install other software that came with your RT2500 kit. 11 Installing Matrox Video Tools software on RT2000 with Windows 98 SE This section explains how to install Matrox Video Tools 3.0 on RT2000 with a new installation of Windows 98 SE. You ll need your Matrox RT CD and your Windows 98 SE installation CD. 7 Note Please make sure that no 1394 devices are connected to your computer during the Matrox Video Tools Setup process. 1 Make sure you ve prepared your computer as instructed in your Matrox RT2000 Installation and User Guide. This includes: Preparing your system. Plan your storage configuration and install your devices. Install Windows 98 SE. Make sure your main display is configured for a resolution of with 16- or 32-bit color. Install Adobe Premiere. Installing your RT2000 card set and connecting your devices. 2 Turn on your computer and insert the Matrox RT CD in your CD-ROM drive. Windows detects new hardware when you restart. Important If you installed your G400 Flex 3D card in a new system, skip to step 4. 3 Windows reports finding a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA), even though you have an AGP card. ²Caution If your system previously used an older Matrox G-series card (G100 or G200), you may be prompted to insert a disk to install another version of the Matrox G400 drivers. Simply click OK and then Cancel when prompted to provide a path to the file. This will allow you to continue the installation in standard VGA mode. Matrox Video Tools Setup will install the proper driver for your display card later in the process. Do not try to manually install driver files from your RT2000 CD. Doing so will cause software conflicts. a When the Add New Hardware Wizard starts, click Next to start the wizard and then Next again when prompted to search for a driver. 14 10 Upgrading from a previous version of Matrox Video Tools on RT2000 with Windows 98 SE Important Before you can install the new version of Matrox Video Tools, you must uninstall any previous version from your computer. You can do this by choosing Start > Programs > Matrox Video Tools > Uninstall. If you attempt to install the new version without first uninstalling the previous version, you ll be prompted to perform the uninstall. 1 Remove the following devices from the Windows Device Manager (to access the Device Manager, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties and click the Device Manager tab): MatroxMMedia: Matrox RT2000Loader. Sound Video and Game controllers: RT Shut down and restart your computer. 3 Windows now detects a new PCI Multimedia Device (that is, your RT2000 codec card). The Add New Hardware Wizard starts, so that you can install the required driver. a Click Next to start the wizard and then Next again when prompted to search for a driver. b Insert the RT CD in your CD-ROM drive. c When the wizard prompts you to select locations for its search, select CD-ROM drive so that Windows can find the RT2000 codec card software on your RT CD. Click Next to continue, and then Next to install the driver. After Windows copies the necessary files to your computer, click Finish. 4 You must now restart your computer as prompted before continuing the installation. Click Yes to restart your computer. 5 After re-starting, Windows automatically starts the Matrox Video Tools Setup program, which updates your Millennium Flex 3D Edition display card driver, Microsoft DirectX, and various other essential RT2000 software components. Follow the onscreen instructions. 6 When the Matrox Video Tools installation is complete, Setup offers you a choice of installing the Pixélan SpiceMaster demo, installing the RT

15 wallpaper as your default desktop wallpaper, and viewing the Matrox RT Readme file. Installing the software with: Windows finds the files on your CD-ROM and copies the necessary files to your computer. Click Finish. In Chapter 11, Using Inscriber TitleExpress, the correct method of starting TitleExpress once in Premiere should be: by choosing File > New > Inscriber TE RT Title. Changes to your Matrox RT2000 Installation and User Guide The following are changes to the Matrox RT2000 Installation and User Guide (dated March 30, 2001): In Chapter 12, Using Inscriber TitleExpress, the correct method of starting TitleExpress once in Premiere should be: by choosing File > New > Inscriber TE RT Title. 16 12 Fixes in Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0 Adjusting Premiere s Master level control now gives you the desired results. (Ref# 23335) The problem of red pixels appearing when applying a Matrox 2D/3D DVE with rotation has been fixed. (Ref# 23345) The problem of black lines appearing when applying a Matrox particle or page curl effect has been fixed. (Ref# & 23806) The problem of a pink edge appearing on a clip with a Matrox distortion effect has been fixed. (Ref# 23805) Premiere s J, K, and L keyboard shortcuts for previewing clips are now supported on dual-processor systems. (Ref# 23347) Improvements have been made to exports, so that false disk full errors no longer occur when you do any of the following: Export a Timeline with non-realtime software effects, such as any of Adobe Premiere s video effects. (Ref# 23398) Perform consecutive exports. (Ref# 23450) When performing a long scan of a tape containing a lot of clips, MediaTools no longer crashes. (Ref# 23377) The problem of decreased volume occurring when switching between Premiere and other programs has been corrected. (Ref# 23380) A.tga file with an alpha channel key applied to it will no longer produce a white outline. (Ref# 23400) You will now see the same result when applying a Reverse setting on an Adobe Premiere transition, whether you have applied the transition as realtime or non-realtime. (Ref# 23477) The delay has been reduced when pressing ESC to stop an S-Video capture in Adobe Premiere. (Ref# 23526) The Matrox realtime plug-in has been improved to reduce slow downs or freezes in Premiere. If you still notice sluggish behavior on a long Premiere Timeline with many keyframed Matrox effects, you can try reducing the number of undo levels in Premiere to 2 or less. To do this, choose Edit > Preferences > Auto Save and Undo > History/Undo Levels. You ll have to restart Premiere for your change to take effect. (Ref# 23531) The problem of the Matrox realtime plug-in falsely reporting an error of no tape present in a DV-1394 device has been corrected. You now receive a message to verify that a tape is present, and you can press OK to continue. (Ref# 23564) Matrox RT Release Notes

17 Changing any of the color space conversion options for the Matrox Video for Windows codecs while running Premiere won t cause Premiere and Control Panel to hang. (Ref# & 23778) The problem of organic wipes being corrupted in Premiere if the source.tga files were stored on a RAID controller (such as a HighPoint controller) has been corrected. (Ref# 23822) Premiere s Movie Capture window no longer displays seeking during a capture. (Ref# 23863) Performing a close-ended analog capture with Matrox DV Device Control in Premiere will now result in a successful capture. (Ref# 23881) The problem of black lines appearing when applying crop settings has been fixed. (Ref# 23211) The intermittent problem of black flashes appearing when playing a project from the Premiere Timeline on certain systems has been fixed. (Ref# & 23957) You are now able to record material over the 1394 interface with some older DV-1394 devices, such as the Sony DHR (Ref# 23453) Out of sync captures of unlocked audio from certain devices (such as the Sony TRV-900) no longer occur. (Ref# 23498) When using Matrox MediaTools, the problem of no video in the Preview Window while performing a Scan/Capture has been fixed. (Ref# 23862) The problem of lost audio while scrubbing the Timeline on a PAL system has been fixed. (Ref# 23908) The delay has been reduced when performing a scrub on the Premiere Timeline after having previously performed a render-scrub (that is, previewing applied effects by pressing ALT as you drag the edit line in the time ruler). (Ref# 24056) Saving a Premiere project to a sub-folder on your video drive no longer produces a file in use error. (Ref# 24066) The delay has been reduced when clearing the Enable video preview during export option in the Matrox General Settings dialog box. (Ref# 24133) After trimming a project, the image quality of the new project has been improved. (Ref# 24078) The problem of your audio being muted in Premiere after installing a preview (beta) release of Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0 has been fixed. (Ref# 24003) An Adobe Premiere fade applied to a clip with a Matrox effect no longer causes distortion. (Ref# 24243) 13 Fixes in Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools 3.0

18 14 Shadows applied to a Matrox 2D/3D DVE effect are now displayed proportionally on the edges of your clip. (Ref# 24051) Choosing the Dud effect when creating a Matrox colorization effect no longer results in unwanted brightness in your clip. The following issues with the Sony DHR-1000 (PAL) device have been addressed: Problems of lost communication while working in Media Tools and Adobe Premiere have been reduced. (Ref# & 23952) Problems of failed batch captures and the loss of the Movie Capture window have been reduced. (Ref# 24582) Various problems with exports to DV format, such as artifacts or repeated and missing frames causing jerky video, have been fixed. Please note, however, that you won t be able to view your video in the Premiere Monitor window or on your NTSC or PAL video monitor during a DV export. (Ref# 24361, 23934, 24320, 24171) Editing and playing back Inscriber.icg rolls no longer generates corrupted files. (Ref# 24190) The intermittent problem of Premiere shutting down when dragging a newly captured clip to the Timeline has been fixed. (Ref# 23225) Performing an MPEG-2 export in Premiere of a Timeline in which portions have been cut out, no longer results in a file not found error or in the export freezing and not completing successfully. (Ref# & 24524) The ATI Radeon VE display card has been approved for use with the RT2500 using Windows Me. As always, be sure to check the individual compatibility details for the motherboard or system of your choice to see which display cards were tested with it, as well as to read about any known issues. Please see the RT2500 System Recommendations section of our support web site at: (Ref# 24269) The intermittent problem of Premiere not responding during a batch capture on certain systems, such as an Abit VP6 motherboard with a Via Apollo Pro 133A chipset, has been fixed. 19 Last-minute operational limitations The following operational limitations are in addition to those listed in the Matrox RT Readme for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0 with Service Pack 1 (choose Start > Programs > Matrox Video Tools > Readme). For the most up to date information on the latest fixes, please see our web site at 15 When exporting to tape on certain systems, you may see grey and white blocks in your exported clips. (Ref# 24747) On some PAL systems, there may be a loss of audio during a looped playback of a Premiere Timeline. (Ref# 24427) Batch capturing a number of DVCPRO PAL clips in Premiere may result in corrupted files. Capturing a single clip in Premiere, or using MediaTools for your batch captures, though, will work correctly. (Ref# 24801) Using Premiere s Batch Processing utility to convert graphics files to.avi files may result in Premiere crashing. (Ref# 24727) You may receive a false disk full error in Premiere when exporting to MPEG-2 I-Frame format. (Ref# & 24799) When performing a Scan/Capture in MediaTools on some DVCAM devices, you may notice that the first frame of a clip is the same as the last frame of the previous clip. In MediaTools, if you perform a capture when your DV-1394 device is already playing a tape, the time code display may freeze even though the tape is still playing. This does not have any effect on the capture itself. (Ref# 24718) If you run out of disk space while exporting a project, you won t see a message warning that the disk is full. Be sure you have enough free disk space before initiating an export. You must have at least 50 MB free on your A/V drive after the export is completed. When exporting a project to an.avi file, you may see a disk full error message. If this occurs, try defragmenting your system and A/V drives and then repeat the export. The shortcut arrow on icons may be corrupted after installing Service Pack 1 for Matrox Video Tools version 3.0 on a Windows 2000 computer.
