1 The Windows Movie Maker Interface Movie Tasks: Takes you step by step through the movie making process Document Area TimeLine: This is called the storyboard Project preview Area: Preview your project Saving your new project Save the current project in your folder by going to File > Save Project (CTRL + S). Name your file with the title of your story. Click the Save button.

2 Add photos and music to your collection Under Movie tasks (1. Capture video) click the Import pictures option. Select the images that you would like to use for your movie To Select multiple image hold down the shift key while you click on each image Click the Import button. Under Movie tasks (1. Capture video) click the Import audio or music option. Select the music that you would like to use for your movie. Click the Import button. Alternatively, you could go through File > Import into Collections (CTRL + I)

3 Recording A Narration (Voiceover) Before continuing, please make sure that your microphone and headphones are properly set. Click the small microphone icon on top of the timeline or go to Tools > Narrate timeline Click Start Narration and start talking into your microphone Once finished, click Stop Narration, a window will appear asking where to save the voice recording, save it in your project folder > Audio Folder It s best to make folders for each part of your digital story, this will make it easy to find and organise your resources. Click the Save button. Your voice recording will appear as a new item in your collection. If you made a mistake in recording, don t save the narration and rerecord again.

4 Placing items in your timeline Click the Tasks button twice to show the items in your collection and available task shortcuts. Drag the photos down to the timeline according to the order you would like it to appear in your movie or based from your narration and story. You could have multiple instances of the same item in your timeline. To adjust the duration of your images, select the image and resize the duration by dragging the end of the clip marker either to shorten or lengthen the clip. If you prefer not to have a narration and instead use background music, just click and drag the music file to your Audio/Music Layer.

5 Applying Video Effects Under Movie tasks (2. Edit Movie), click the View video effects option. The video effects library will appear, click and drag a desired effect to your clips (images). This will apply the effect to your clip. To add several effects, right-click on a clip and from the drop down options, Select Video Effects Add or remove effects by clicking the appropriate buttons. Alternatively, this option can also be opened by going to Clip > Video > Video Effects Under Movie tasks (2. Edit Movie), click the View video transitions option. Adding video transitions The video transitions library will appear, click and drag a desired transition in between two (2) clips. To remove a transition, click the transition in the Transition layer and press the delete key. To change a transition, just drag the end of the transition to trim it.

6 Inserting a title Under Movie tasks (2. Edit Movie), click the Make titles or credits option. From the title type options, select Add title at the beginning of the movie. Type your title and subtitle on the provided boxes. Select the option to Change the title animation, select one of the preset title animations. This will automatically update your title animation. Select the Change the text font and colour option, change your text to your desired look. When finished, click Done, add title to movie. Once you get back to your Movie Maker interface, you will need to adjust the position of the narration or the background music.

7 Saving your self-playing movie Under Movie Tasks (3. Finish Movie), Select Save to my computer. Enter a filename that you d like to name your movie or you could keep the default filename which is the title of your movie. Save your project in your project folder by clicking the Browse button and locating your project folder. Click the OK button once this is done. Click the Next button. On your movie settings, click on the Other settings: and choose High-quality video (PAL). Click the Next button to start saving the movie. Click the Finish button. Save your project by clicking on the small diskette button (CTRL + S or File > Save Project), and close Windows Movie Maker.
