Introduction to Adobe Premiere 5.1 Creating a New Project and Capturing Clips Editing Digitized Clips Reviewing and Exporting the Final Movie Clip 1
Creating a New Project and Capturing Clips. 1. Select Program>Adobe>Premiere 5.1>Adobe Premiere 5.1 from the Start menu Click Load from the New Project Settings dialogue box. 3. Select Tested True from the Load Project Settings window and click OK. 2
4. Click OK from the New Project Settings window. 5. Select File>Capture>Movie Capture. 6. The Video Capture window will open. This window allows you to view a preview of the image that you can digitize. It also provides the control interface to start and stop the video capture. 7. Insert the tape you wish to capture images from into the VCR. 8. Que the VCR to the point where you wish to start the video capture. 9. Press Play on the VCR to start the clip and then click Record in the Capture Window. 3
10. When the clip has finished playing, click the Left Mouse Button or press ESC and press Stop on the VCR. 11. Click the play button to review the clip. Please note that the clip will play in the preview video monitor and may not be visible in the computer monitor. 12. Before you can edit the clip it must be saved. Select File>Save. Please save all files in the folder labeled Media Files. 13. Repeat the process until you have captured all of the clips you wish to edit. 4
Editing Digitized Clips 1. Right click in the Project window and select Import>File 2. Select the clips that you want to edit and click Open. Now that the clips that you want to edit together are loaded into the Project window you can view information about the clips. (i.e. Media Type, Duration, Video Info, and Audio Info) 3. Double-click the clip that you want to edit first. This will bring the clip up in its own viewing window. 4. Play the clip by clicking the Play button on the bottom of the window. 5
5. Advance to the point in the clip where you wish to start your edit. This can be accomplished by stopping the clip at the point you wish to start as you play the clip. You can also click and hold the slider at the bottom of the clip to move foward or backwards in the clip. To make fine adjustments you can also use the Right and Left Arrows on the keyboard. 6. When you get to the point of the first edit, click the Mark In button. This is where your edit will start. 7. Advance the clip until the end of the edit. You can do this by pressing the Play button or use the slider to advance the clip. 6
8. Click the Mark Out button. 9. Position the mouse pointer over the clip. The pointer will change into a hand once it is over the clip. 10. Left-click and hold when the point is over the clip. 11. Drag the clip onto the timeline by moving the mouse over the timeline. Then release the left mouse button. This will drop the clip onto the time line. 12. Close the current clip by clicking the Close icon in the top right corner of the clip window. 13. Open the next clip that is to be added to the final edit. 14. Repeat the previous steps for adding a clip onto the timeline. 7
Reviewing and Exporting the Final Movie Clip 1. Now that all of the clips are added onto the timeline, view the movie by clicking the Play button on the Monitor window. 2. Once the editing is finished, it is time to save and export the completed clip. 3. With the Monitor window highlighted, select File>Save. Save the final edit in the Media Files folder. 4. Once the edit is saved it can be exported to an.avi file. This step is very important. If the final edit is not exported it can only be viewed at this station using Adobe Premiere. 5. Select File>Export>Movie. 6. Type in the name you wish to give the final movie and click Save. 7. Premiere will begin exporting the clip. This can take anywhere from one minute to one hour depending on the length of the clip. Be patient as the program works. 8. After the clip has been exported and you are satisified with the final product, please remove the clip and any other files that you have on the computer. CIT can not gaurantee the saftey of any files that are on CIT machines. 8
