3 SECTION I: CREATING AN ACCOUNT AND LOGGING IN Creating a Web Account Creating a Web account on is easy. Once you have a Web account, you will be able to request access to e-lab Solutions features (like online PT and the Competency Assessment Program), update your profile, and participate in other online CAP education activities. Step One: 1. Go to 2. Click on Create an Account at the left of the page. 3. On the registration page, enter your name and credentials, then choose a unique user ID and password. Click Continue.

4 Enter your name and credentials here Choose your own unique user ID and password 4. Select three security questions and provide answers. This information will only be used to verify your identity if you require assistance logging in at any point in the future. The answers you provide to these security questions will help identify you for log in or other assistance 5. Provide either a business or home address to continue.

5 6. Once you have entered at least one address, click Finish. You will be notified by within one business day that your Web account has been activated.

6 Logging In Once you have an active Web account, you can log in to the CAP Web site with your user ID and password. 1. Go to and log in with the user ID and password you entered when you created your account. 2. Once you re logged in, the CAP Web site will display a welcome message and a list of links to the left of the page.

7 SECTION II: GAINING ACCESS TO LABORATORY DATA AND PROGRAMS Requesting Access to Laboratory Data and Programs Before you request access, make sure that your laboratory has opted in. The laboratory director has been assigned as the site administrator. You will also need a Web account to request access (see Creating individual Web accounts and logging in ). 1. Log in. 2. Under e-lab Solutions click Administration Options. 3. Click on Request Access under Get Connected. 4. At the entry screen, enter your organization s seven-digit CAP number, then click Submit. 5. At the confirmation screen review the information and click Submit. 6. Your request will be sent to the site administrator to grant or deny access. 7. Once you have been granted or denied access, you will receive an message detailing your access privileges (functions you have been authorized to use by your site administrator).

8 Selecting a Laboratory If you have access to online programs through more than one laboratory, you must first choose a laboratory before you will be able to access Competency Assessment Program features. If you have access for only one laboratory, you must select a laboratory the first time you access the program. After the initial selection, the laboratory is selected for you automatically when you log in. 1. Log in. 2. Under e-lab Solutions at the left of the page, select the program you wish to access. 3. Click Select or Change Laboratory. 4. Select the radio button to the left of the appropriate organization and click Select Lab. The page will update with your selected laboratory at the top of the page. The lab you selected will also be highlighted in the list. 5. Click the appropriate link to return to the program page. Information about the selected laboratory appears here Laboratories for which you have access to data are listed here; the active laboratory is highlighted in blue

10 SECTION III: ADMINISTRATION OPTIONS Opting Your Laboratory In for Online Programs (for Site Administrators only) Only site administrators can opt in their laboratories to e-lab Solutions. A laboratory only has to opt in once to gain access to online programs. 1. Log in. 2. Under e-lab Solutions at the left of the page, select Administration Options. 3. Click Opt In. 4. On the Opt In page, enter the CAP number and PIN provided on your opt in letter, and click Submit. If you do not have a PIN available, contact the CAP at option 1# for assistance. 5. Read the Terms and Conditions. Click Accept to continue. Specify which CAP programs you wish to enable for online access. You can update these selections at any time through Select Programs. 6. A confirmation screen will display to show that your laboratory has been activated for online Web access. The individual who opts in the laboratory is automatically designated as a site administrator for the laboratory and is responsible for managing access privileges for staff in the laboratory. NOTE: The CAP recommends that each organization have at least two site

11 administrators. Use Manage Permissions to designate another site administrator. Managing Permissions (for Site Administrators only) Site administrators are responsible for maintaining access privileges for laboratory staff. New requests When laboratory staff request access to your laboratory s data or programs, you will receive an notification. 1. Go to and log in. 2. Under e-lab Solutions, click Administration Options. 3. Click on New Requests. 4. To grant access to an individual, click on Specify Employee Access. 5. At the Grant Access to CAP Information screen, click on the appropriate checkboxes to select the privileges you want this person to have. 6. Click Grant Selected Privileges. 7. To deny access, click Deny This Request. 8. After you grant or deny access privileges for an individual, an message will automatically be sent to him or her about the privileges you granted or stating that the request was denied. Ongoing access management You can update access privileges for laboratory personnel as well. 1. Go to and log in. 2. Under e-lab Solutions, click Administration Options. 3. Click Manage Permissions. The Manage Permissions screen will open.

12 Click on the program tabs to view privileges for specific CAP programs The default display shows all users with access to CAP programs. Click on the tabs to view privileges for specific CAP programs, such as Education Program or Surveys/EXCEL. You can limit the list of individuals displayed using the options above the list of users. Select the radio button next to only users with [tab name] privileges to limit the display to show only people with privileges for a specific CAP program Enter the first letters of a user s last name to limit the display to show people whose last name begins with those letters 4. To view and update the security privileges for a particular person, click on his or her name. The Manage Permissions for Laboratory Users screen will open.

13 To update access for an individual, click on the appropriate checkboxes to select or deselect privileges and click Update Privileges. To revoke access to all privileges for an individual, click Revoke All Privileges. After you grant or deny access privileges for an individual, an message will automatically be sent to him or her about the privileges you changed.
