Other App Features Find your Grades Check your meal balance and fees. your teachers Read the daily announcements

School Calendar All school events are presynced to your calendar app. (Found on the 1st screen of the ipad.) Any future changes will update automatically. You can add your own items to your calendar as well. (Test dates, assignment dates, birthdays, etc.)

Quick Tips Don t use all of the ipad storage for game apps, pictures, and video! You have 16G. Pictures and internet usage history is logged on the system once you access the school s network. (Inappropriate usage will result in loosing take-home privileges and seminar usage.)

More Tips Quickly close an application with an open hand, then pinch fingers together. (Return to home screen.) Move between open apps by swiping with 4 fingers. Quickly find which apps are open by lifting the bottom of the screen with 4 fingers. Be sure to close open apps to save on battery power. Double click the home button. Open apps will be shown on the screen. Touch the app and slide it off the top of the screen.

Charging Your ipad comes with a charger and cable. The small end plugs into the ipad below the home screen button. The USB end plugs into the power adapter. Make sure the ipad is fully charged at the beginning of the school day.

Unplugging your cord Do NOT pull on the wire. Always pull on the connector! Pulling on the wire will case the wires to break or pull apart. Then you will have to purchase a new cord.

Protective Case Keep the ipad in the Otterbox case at all times!! Do NOT remove your name from inside! This case will protect the ipad in the event it is dropped. It is our opinion that the Otterbox case is the best protective case available. It does NOT protect against water.

The Otterbox has a built in screen protector. You may occasionally need to clean it off. Clean it the same way you would a cell phone screen. In the case that the Otterbox breaks, please see the office. If it is a defective part. We can replace it at no cost.

Breakage The $50 fee is not insurance. It is a usage fee that will allow students to take the device home. Students/parents will pay for any breakage or theft. You can use your home owners insurance policy or purchase a separate policy. We have added a insurance option if you wish to add it. ($20, $25 deductible). It does not cover theft or loss. *If you use your home owner s policy or renter s insurance, call to add the device and check your deductible!

Do you want insurance? We typically see 2-3 broken screens per year. Screen repair will run around $100.

More on Fees Things we have done to off-set the fee. We have lowered the Pay to Participate cost to $50 for 1 st sport, $30 for 2 nd, and $10 for 3 rd. We have eliminated the science lab fee.

Another way to look at it The usage fee for the school year (9 months) is $50. That is an average cost of $5.56 per month to be able to have an ipad at home. *Also, we do allow payment plans for the $50 usage fee. ($10 per month). Invoices are ed to students and parents as a reminder.

How do you connect at home? You will need a wireless router for the ipad to connect to your home network. You can get these devices at any electronics store or department store. It is recommended that once you have wireless internet at home, you have a password to protect the connection.

Home Internet If you allow the device to connect to your wireless internet at home, you are advised to monitor the usage. (Similar to what you do for cell phones.) We have internet filters at school, but we do NOT provide them for home internet connections. *We can not guarantee students will not try to access inappropriate information at home. Limit the time of use. Have the device charged in the parents bedroom. Set a timer for your internet. Choose your home network under Settings, then select Wifi

Tips to Remember The device belongs to the School District, not the Student. Parents are encouraged to also use the ipad. Check grades, teachers, check the daily announcements and the school website! If there is misuse at home, don t hesitate to take the device away from the student! Misuse at school will result in consequences.

Can You Use Your Own Device? Yes, but it needs to be an ipad because of the apps we have already purchased and will purchase for students. A laptop, kindle, or other tablets would not be acceptable. You would be more than welcome to use those devices at home, and check the ipad in and out at the PLHS library.

Blackboard (Bb) Used by teachers to post information. Two ways to access Bb. Through the app. - Great view & easy. school search = Perry Lecompton or USD 343 Though website - use this to self enroll, edit profile, and take non mobile tests.

Dropbox This is like a flash drive, but in the cloud! Once you create an account with your , you will be able save and access documents on your ipad or you can access documents from a computer at You can also link dropbox to your other applications for fast saves. (Blackboard) You can also create shared folders or documents for collaboration projects.

Use your !! The office will communicate a great deal of information to you through . Check it many times per day!! your teachers.

How can I access files on Pages & Keynote Applications at home? Go to and log with your apple ID and password. Access to Pages, Keynote, and the Find my ipad application. The Find my ipad app can help you locate your ipad by showing location on a map or by playing a sound on the ipad.

ipad App Tutorials 1. Blackboard - 2eR_PpoEA 2. Notability Dropbox - jeo 4. Pages Keynote - (This information has also been ed to students for easy access. They will need to watch at home or away from school.)

Quick Help You will find a variety of help videos on YouTube. Simply go to YouTube.com and search for your topic. For help on the ipad, type ipad tips in the search bar.

What about questions???? Don t hesitate to ask a question if you have one. Call, , stop by the office.

Wrap up!! ALL students will turn in the Student Pledge for ipad Use form at the tables. For those of you who have PAID the $50 tech usage, you will receive your charger and cable. If you are not paying the tech fee, you WILL turn in the ipad at the return table with your Student Pledge form. If you want to pay the usage fee tonight, you can. Pick up insurance information if you want it.
