2 Part I - ipad Setup and Configuration For Part I You will begin to setup and configure your ipad. Please make sure you have wireless Internet access to complete this section. If at any time you need assistance, please visit or contact the Technology Department. 1. Turn the ipad on by holding down the top right button 2. The ipad should display a screen that displays ipad 3. Slide the arrow to the right where it says Configure 4. Select your wireless network. You will need to enter in the wireless Security password if the wireless network is protected. 5. Tap on Next to continue *** (At school you will use the RHS Student wireless network. The password to join the network is your username first name.last name password same as your computer login 6. Select Enable Location Services and tap Next 7. Select Set Up as New ipad and tap Next to continue 8. All students will be required to create a new Apple ID linked to their school account. Even though you may have your own personal Apple ID, you will be using your new Apple ID for all school related activities. If you already have and Apple ID created with your Rebels.Ridgenet account, use that instead. Select Create a Free Apple ID to create a new Apple ID. 9. Enter in your birthday and tap on Next to continue 10. Enter in your First and Last Name. Tap on Next to continue 11. Select Use your current address and tap on Next to continue 12. Enter in your School Address (first.lastname@rebels.ridgenet.org) 13. Enter in your password 14. Choose three security questions and provide an answer. Tap Next to continue 15. Enter in a Rescue address. This is used in the event that you forget your Apple ID password. You should enter in a personal address and NOT your school address. Tap Next to continue 16. Turn Off updates and tap Next to continue 17. Tap on Agree (bottom right) to accept the Terms and Conditions and then tap on Agree one more time 18. Select Use icloud and tap Next to continue 19. Select Back Up to icloud and tap Next to continue 20. Select Use Find My ipad and tap Next to continue

3 21. Select Don t Send Diagnostics and tap on Next to continue 22. Select Start Using ipad 23. A message will appear Cannot Back Up tap on Later 24. Tap on the Mail application 25. Select Google (GMAIL) to add your school account to the ipad 26. Enter in the requested information: Full Name Enter in your complete school address (first.last@rebels.ridgenet.org) Enter in your password Type in School for the description 27. Tap on Next check marks will appear next to each field if all the information you entered is correct 28. Tap on Save in the next screen to complete the process 29. On the home screen tap on the Mailbox icon at the very bottom 30. Tap on Inbox towards the top left 31. Select and tap on the from Apple that asks to verify your address 32. Find the Verify Now link and tap on the link 33. A webpage will open. Enter in your school & password 34. Tap on Verify Address if all information is correct you will receive a message saying Address Verified 35. Press the Home button on the ipad to bring you back to the home screen 36. Open the App Store by tapping on the icon 37. Wait about 10 seconds and a list of Apps to download will appear. Tap on Download Free to download the free applications 38. Sign In to the App Store by tapping on Use Existing Apple ID 39. Enter in your Apple ID that you recently created. (Hint: Apple ID is your school address & password) 40. A Message will appear indicating that your Apple ID hasn t been used in the itunes Store. Tap on Review 41. Tap on Ok if you receive a message indicating Your Apps Are Downloading 42. In Account Settings confirm the Store Country is set to United States and tap on Next to continue 43. The itunes Terms of Service message will appear. Scroll Up within the message and tap on Agree towards the bottom of the message 44. Tap on Agree one more time 45. Select None for the credit card type 46. Fill out the Billing Address. Even though you are not using a credit card, this information is still required. Use your home address & phone number. Tap Next 47. A Congratulations message indicating your Apple ID has been successfully created will appear. Press the Home button to close the App Store 48. The last step is to rename your ipad Open the Settings application Tap on General in the left column Tap on About

4 Tap on Name 49. You will now rename your ipad according to the following naming scheme The first portion of the name identifies the school i. Example: RHS for Ridgewood High School The second portion identifies the device on the network i. Example: ipad The third portion is your Username i. Example: john.doe When you combine all three together you create the name you will use to name your ipad. See the example below: RHS-iPad-John.Doe Enter in your new ipad name into the Name field on the ipad and tap on Done 50. You have now successfully configured your ipad! Continue onto the next section Part II Redeeming App Codes Part II Redeeming App Codes It may be necessary to download and install certain paid APPS that are required for specific courses. Your teacher will provide you with a Redemption Code that you will use to download the paid app. Follow these steps to redeem paid apps. 1. Launch the App Store by tapping on the App Store icon 2. Scroll to the bottom of the App Store and tap on the Redeem button

5 3. Enter in the Redemption Code you were given 4. Tap on Redeem towards the top right 5. The App will now download and install on your ipad 6. You can test the new App by closing out of the App store and searching for the App on the Home Screen Part III icloud Backup and Restore of ipad icloud automatically backs up the most important data on your device to the cloud (Apple Server). icloud will run on a daily basis as long as your device: Is connected to Internet or Wi-Fi Is connected to a power source Has the screen locked You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to Internet over Wi-Fi by chosing Back Up Now from Settings > icloud > Storage & Backup Ensure that you connect your ipad on a daily basis to a power source for icloud to backup your device and to charge your ipad. What is backed up: You get unlimited free storage for: Purchased music, movies, TV Shows, Apps, and You get 5GB of free icloud storage for:

6 Photos and videos in the Camera Roll Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts Application Data Home screen and app organization Messages (imessage, SMS and MMS) Ringtones Visual Voic s In the event that your ipad becomes stolen or damaged, you will restore the replacement ipad from the icloud backup. How content is restored to a new device When you go through Setup Assistant on a new device using ios 5 or later, choose Restore from icloud Backup and enter your icloud Account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enable Backup. Choose which backup to restore from. After your device restarts, your settings and accounts are restored and Backup starts downloading your purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, books, Camera Roll and other content.
