Using to support your mission Craigslist Non-profit boot camp August 19, 2006 Case Study: Sacred Heart Community Services
Who is Donordigital? Donordigital is a full-service online fundraising, advocacy, and marketing company. Since 1999, we have been developing and managing successful online programs for major organizations committed to using the internet to build their constituencies and achieve their goals. Our Clients: American Jewish World Service, Amnesty International, NARAL Prochoice America, The Human Rights Campaign, The Humane Society of the United States, Campaign to Defend the Constitution, Earthjustice, CARE, USA.
Why ? 1. Effective. After some initial investment, is low-cost, immediate, and a great way to cultivate new activists and donors! 2. Powerful. can be a powerful tool in helping your best members to spread the word about your mission. 3. Active. If you build a website they won t come (but they will with .) There s lots competing for your supporters attention you need to actively send them important and relevant information and opportunities!
Case Study: Sacred Heart Community Services list size: around 1000 List is mostly volunteers and some donors addresses are collected through donor envelopes and volunteer forms. Occasional s are sent out for special events or volunteer opportunities Messages are sent through outlook.
3 ways to grow your program #1 1. Start with your website: Maximize for eye-tracking and move your action buttons to the left of the page under your masthead. Add name & collection fields under those action buttons. Be sure to include compelling language of why someone should join your list.
Some examples
3 ways to grow your program #2 2. Focus on building your list. Collect s at every event, on every form and in every possible scenario. You can not have a successful online fundraising program unless you ve got an interested audience! Have a central database to hold your supporters contact information and a system for entering in addresses. Consider working with an affordable outside vendor such as to help manage your online communications.
3 ways to grow your program 3. Develop a plan #3 Think about how and when you ll be communicating to your list. Try to schedule regular communication to them to keep them interested and engaged. At the very least, establish a monthly e-newsletter to keep people s interest. (In the newsletter include volunteer opportunities, events, success stories, an action, and a way to donate.)
And that s just the beginning! Once you ve started to build your list and developed a communications plan, you can start focusing on: Action alerts one of the best ways to build your list and engage your supporters. Fundraising with the right systems in place you can encourage your list to give to you online. Let them know that giving online saves you money and allows you to spend more on the programs they care about. Cultivation consistent communications about your program goals and achievements.
Bonus Quiz Question When sending an asking your list to take action or donate, what is the biggest factor that will determine your success? a) Timing b) Pretty design c) A big list d) Celebrity sender
