1 Filing the 990-N epostcard for This is your chapter s tax return and is not optional. The IRS will revoke the chapter s tax-exempt status and your chapter will have to reorganize with the IRS. New User Profile required this year only. These slides show you each step to set up the new profile as well as how to file and show proof of acceptance. Treasurer s received a worksheet with instructions and a place to record new login information. Please file in July or August so that if you have problems we can help.

2 Helpful Hints If the IRS site is not working in the Internet browser that you are using, try a different one. (Example: Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari) Use a computer (not a smart phone) that is not connected to a shared network. Check your junk/spam folders if you are not receiving expected s during the registration or filing process. Use the question mark links at the end of each field if you need clarification. If the system freezes and won t let you proceed, sign out of the filing system, close all programs and shut down the computer. In a few minutes, restart your computer and sign in to the IRS site to try again. IRS Technical Help can be reached at

4 Click here to get started with the new user profile set-up. This is the only time you will do this. Once you have created the new user profile you will log in here.

5 Type your name and address. Have your open as the code stays active 15 minutes. You can request a second code if necessary.

13 Click CONTINUE if you are ready to file. If you will file later, you can sign out. When you are ready to file, just sign in, there is no need to create a new user profile again.

14 Should you be inactive on the site for a while, you will see this message. Return to and sign in. You don t need to create a new profile, just sign in.

15 Use this to create your e-postcard Profile with your chapter s EIN. This is also where you go to make any changes to the profile when you change treasurers. Use this to check the status of your filing, to edit a filing that has been saved but not submitted, and to create future filings.

16 Select Exempt Organization at the drop-down arrow.

17 Type your EIN then click ADD EIN.

18 Click CREATE NEW FILING

19 Select your EIN at the drop-down arrow then click CONTINUE

20 If you see a date other than June 30, 2016 don t file. Call International ext. 115 Select NO your organization has not terminated Select YES your receipts are $50,000 or less These fields should be filled in for you. The legal name cannot be changed here. Click the? for more information.

21 Enter your chapter s name in the DBA (doing business as) field. Fill in the address for the organization.

22 Select PERSON at the dropdown arrow. This should either be the treasurer or president of your chapter. Fill in the contact information for the Principal Officer.

23 You can click SAVE FILING or SUBMIT FILING. Saving will allow you to sign in again later to fill in fields that you left blank. Submitting sends the filing to the IRS.

24 This is the initial confirmation page. The Filing Status shows PENDING. Print this page for your records. Wait 5-10 minutes then click here to get your updated filing status.

25 After clicking MANAGE FORM 990N FILINGS you will see this page. The status is PENDING. Click the link in the ACTION box to see if your filing was accepted or rejected.

27 Write your chapter name here if sending via postal mail. To get this detailed page, click the SUBMISSION ID link on the previous page. Print this page to keep in your 990N file. Be sure the chapter name is stated in the subject line or body if sending via .
