1 WELCOME TO THE YEAGER MIDDLE SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE THIS SHORT PRESENTATION IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION TO HELP INFORM AND ADDRESS SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

2 SCHOOL HOURS CLASS SCHEDULE PLEASE NOTE: Students may not be dropped off any earlier than 7:30am each school day. Students may not be checked out after 3:00pm. Students MUST be picked up NO LATER THAN 4:00. Unless they are participating in a Teacher/Coach sponsored activity later than 4:00pm.

3 MEDICATIONS Medication can not be sent to school with your student. - Prescribed or Over the Counter Parents/Guardians must bring all medications to the school and complete medication form. - If possible have your doctor prescribe medicine that is taken 2 times daily so you can give it before and after school hours. - Medication forms are available in our office and can be completed when medication is brought in. If you have any questions about medication procedures please call the main office at

4 6th GRADE IMMUNIZATIONS All students entering 6 th grade MUST BE CURRENT ON ALL IMMUNIZATIONS REMINDER: Students MUST HAVE Completed Doses of the Varicella and MMR immunizations. - 2 Shots are required for Varicella and MMR - Both Must be Current to enter into the 6 th Grade You may contact the Records Clerk at YMS to check your students records to make certain all immunization records are current. 6 PARENT PORTAL Allows parents to stay informed of student grades, attendance, class schedule, assignments, and easily contact teachers via the internet USER FRIENDLY & EASY! A great tool to keep you informed, and constantly updated on your students productivity All you need is a User ID and Password which can be obtained in the main office. To enroll all you need to do is complete the parent portal form (included in the packet your student will bring home the first day of school OR you can sign up during open house. - You must sign up IN PERSON and provide a PHOTO ID - Do not send the form to school with your student. - For the protection of your students information this process must be completed in our main office and in person. Thank you for understanding. If you have a 7 th or 8 th Grade student are already registered there is no need to reenroll again. You will use the same User ID and Password.

16 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PARENT PORTAL: 1. How do I receive a login for the STAR Parent Portal? Currently only parents/guardians of middle and high school students can receive a login for the STAR Parent Portal. Please stop by your student s school to fill out a short form. After you show a photo ID, the school will issue you a user name and password. 2. When I enter my user name and password, I receive a message that says Authentication failed. Please try again. What do I do? When you receive this message, it means your password is incorrect. Please send an to portal@douglas.k12.ga.us and the STAR Parent Portal can reset your password. Please include your user name. We can only send passwords to addresses on file. 3. After I enter my user name and password, I get a page cannot be displayed error message. What do I do? First, make sure you are using Internet Explorer 7. To see what version you are using, click on Help (at the top of your browser window). Then click on About Internet Explorer. A new window will open with the version. If you are not using Internet Explorer 7, you will need to download it. Click here to download Internet Explorer 7. You can also download Internet Explorer 7 by clicking the blue button at the bottom of the STAR Parent Portal home page. If you currently are using Internet Explorer 7, you need change your Internet Options. Click on Tools (top right of your browser window) and then select Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab (last one on the right). Scroll to the bottom and make sure the boxes are checked next to Use SSL 2.0, Use SSL 3.0, and Use TSL 1.0. If you are still having problems, then there is computer setting that is blocking the STAR Parent Portal. You can download another browser called Firefox. It is a free browser from a company called Mozilla. Please visit for more information. Once the browser downloads, you will go to the STAR Parent Portal website through Firefox.

17 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PARENT PORTAL: 4. I have a new computer. with Vista as my Windows Operating System. Will the STAR Parent Portal work with Vista? Currently, the STAR Parent Portal does not work with Vista. To access the STAR Parent Portal, you will need to download another browser called Firefox. It is a free browser from a company called Mozilla. Please visit for more information. Once the browser downloads, you will go to the STAR Parent Portal website through Firefox. 5. I have forgotten or lost my user name. How can I receive my user name again? For security purposes, you will need to go back to your student s school to receive your user name. 6. I have forgotten my password. How can I reset my password? If you have forgotten your password or you are locked out, please send an to portal@douglas.k12.ga.us. Please include your user name. We can only send passwords to addresses on file. 7. I have more than one student in the Douglas County School System, but I only see one student when I log in. How can I see all of my students with one login? Please send an to portal@douglas.k12.ga.us. Please include your user name, the names of your students, and the schools they attend. Your students will be linked under one login. 8. When I click on the Parent/Guardian tab, I see a message that says No row returned. Why isn t my student showing? Please send an to portal@douglas.k12.ga.us. Please include your user name, the name(s) of your student(s), and the school(s) they attend

18 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PARENT PORTAL: 9. When I click on the Assignments link, I see a message that says No row returned. What does that mean? The teacher has not posted any assignments or grades for your student. Please contact the teacher for more information. 10. My name is spelled incorrectly. How can I fix that? Please send an to portal@douglas.k12.ga.us. Please include your user name and the correct spelling of your name. 11. My student s daily attendance is incorrect. How can I get the attendance corrected? Please contact your student s school for any corrections on attendance. Click here for a list of school numbers.
