1 DVD CAM Software Support Center Troubleshooting No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC DZ-MV238E, 230A/E, 208E, 200A/E Windows 98 No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (98) Check that the DVD CAM power is on. Shut down Windows to turn off the PC, and then turn on the PC again. Reinstall the USB driver. See "Reinstalling the USB Driver (98)" below for how to reinstall the USB driver. Shut down Windows, disconnect the PC connection cable with the DVD CAM, and then turn on the PC. After Windows starts, connect the PC connection cable with the DVD CAM. Check that the PC connection cable is completely plugged into the DVD CAM and PC. Uninstall the USB driver, and then reinstall it. See "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (98)" on page 2. Reinstalling the USB Driver (98) 1. Connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. 2. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the DZ-WINPC3W into the CD-ROM drive. 3. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel. 4. Double-click System. 5. Click the Device Manager tab. 6. If any of the following devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices appears with a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, go to Step 9. If Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface appears without a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark, go to Step 7. USB Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface Unknown Device DVDCam DZ-MV2xx Series Tip To show devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, click the + button next to it. 1
2 7. Check if any of the following devices appears under SCSI Controllers or Other Devices. If not appears, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (98)" on page 1. USB to SCSI Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface Unknown Device 8. If the a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark appears next to the device that you confirmed in Step 7, go to Step 9. If it does not appear, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (98)" on page Right-click the device name that appears with a yellow exclamation (!) or question (?) mark, and then click Properties. 10. Click the Driver tab, and then click the Update Driver button. The Upgrade Device Driver Wizard appears. 11. Click Next. 12. Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended), and then click Next. 13. Clear the Floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drive, and Microsoft Windows Update check boxes. 14. Click the Specify a location check box, and click Browse. 15. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, specify the CD-ROM drive into which the DZ-WINPC3W CD-ROM has been inserted, and click OK. If you are installing the USB driver updater downloaded from this web site, specify the \UP0307\USB folder. 16. Click Next. 17. Under a message Windows driver file search for the device:, make sure that the following location of the driver appear. If not appears, click Back, and then re-do Steps 13 to 16 Location of driver: drive-letter:\dzmv100u.inf 18. Click Next. 19. Click Finish. 20. Disconnect the DVD CAM with the PC, and restart Windows. 21. After Windows starts, connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. Check if the drive icon appears in My Computer. Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver (98) 1. Connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. 2. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel. 3. Double-click System. 4. Click the Device Manager tab. 5. If any of the following devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices appears under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (98)" on page 1 2
3 USB Device Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface Unknown Device DVDCam DZ-MV2xx Series Tip To show devices under Universal Serial Bus controllers or Other Devices, click the + button next to it. 6. Right-click the device that you confirmed in Step 5, click Uninstall. 7. Close the Device Manager. If Windows prompts you to restart Windows, click No. 8. Double-click My Computer from Desktop. 9. In My Computer, click View > Folder Options menu, and then click the View tab. 10. Under the Advanced settings in the Hidden files, select Show all files, and then click OK. 11. Double-click Windows folder in the hard drive. If the contents of the Windows folder do not appear, click Show Files. Note The Windows folders normally exist in the C drive. 12. Under the Windows folder, open the SYSTEM\ IOSUBSYS folder, and delete the DZMVSCSI.MPD file if the file exists. 13. Under the Windows folder, open the System32\drivers folder, and delete the DZMVUSB.SYS file if the file exists. 14. Under the Windows folder, open the INF fonder, and delete the following files if they exist. DZMV100S Hitachi Ltddzmv100u 15. Disconnect the DVD CAM with the PC, and restart Windows. 16. See "Installing the USB Driver (98)" below and reinstall the USB driver. Installing the USB Driver (98) 1. When Windows starts, connect the DVD CAM with the PC, and then turn on the DVD CAM. 2. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with the DZ-WINPC3W into the CD-ROM drive. 3. The Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box appears. Click Next. 4. Click Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended), and then click Next. 5. Clear the Floppy disk drives, CD-ROM drive, and Microsoft Windows Update check boxes. 6. Click the Specify a location check box, and then click Browse. 7. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, specify the CD-ROM drive into which the DZ-WINPC3W CD-ROM has been inserted, and then click OK. If you are installing the USB driver updater downloaded from this web site, specify the \UP0307\USB folder. 8. Click Next. 3

Tip For how to check the drive icon, see "Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears" on page 5 Cannot Capture Movies or Still Pictures from DVD CAM (98) Check if the drive icon of DVD CAM appears with My Computer. See "Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears (98)" on page 5 for the procedures. Check if the DVD CAM is connected with the PC using Device Manager. See "Checking if the DVD CAM Is Connected with the PC Using Device Manager (98)" on page 5 for the procedures. Check the device setting with the program. See " Device Setting with DVD MovieFactory for DVD CAM" on page 5 for the procedures. Check if you are using the correct Source Disc and application that supports the media by referring to the following table. Source Disc Type Software to Use DVD-RAM, DVD-R Movie DVD MovieFactory SE for DVD CAM DVD-RAM Still Picture Any programs that support still pictures files in the JPEG format Check if the UDF driver in the CD-ROM supplied with the PC Kit DZ-WINPC3W has been installed. Before installing the UDF driver in the CD-ROM supplied with the DVD CAM, check to see if another UDF driver or packet-writing software such as the VOB InstantWrite UDF driver has already been installed your PC. If you have installed any other CD/DVD writing software in your PC, another UDF driver or packet-writing software bundled with or comprising the CD/DVD writing software may be installed. If another UDF or packet-writing software has been installed, uninstall it and then install the UDF driver) in the CD-ROM supplied with the DVD CAM. To uninstall the UDF Reader supplied with DZ-MV100A/E and the InstantWrite UDF driver supplied with the DVD CAM PC Kits such as DZ-WINPC3W and DZ-WINPC4W, please do the following: 1. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. 2. Click the Change/Remove button. 3. When you are prompted to confirm deleting shared files with a Remove Shared File? dialog box, click the No to All button. 4
5 Checking If the Drive Icon of the DVD CAM Appears (98) 1. Double-click My Computer from Desktop. 2. When the DVD CAM is turn on to the VIDEO or PHOTO position, check if the drive icon is shown below. If the drive icon does not appear, perform procedures in "No Drive Icon of DVD CAM Appears on PC (98)" on page 1. The driver letter of the DVD CAM varies, depending on the PC hardware configurations. Checking if the DVD CAM Is Connected with the PC Using Device Manager (98) 1. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel. 2. Double-click System. 3. Click the Device Manager tab. 4. Under CDROM, check if HITACHI DZMV2 appears. 5. Right-click HITACHI DZMV2, and click Properties. 6. Under Device status in the General tab, check if This device is working properly. appears.. 7. Under SCSI Controllers, check if Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver" on page Right-click Hitachi DVD CAMERA SCSI Interface, and then click Properties. 9. Under Device status box on the General tab, check if This device is working properly. appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver" on page Under Universal Serial Bus controllers, check if Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver" on page Right-click Hitachi DVD CAMERA USB Interface, and then click Properties. 12. Under Device status box on the General tab, check if This device is working properly. appears. If it does not appear, reinstall the UDB driver by referring to "Uninstalling and Reinstalling the USB Driver" on page 2. Device Setting with DVD MovieFactory for DVD CAM 1. Before capturing videos, check the capture settings. 2. Start DVD MovieFactory SE, and then click Capture video. 5
6 3. Click the Capture plug-in icon. 4. Make sure if Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in has been selected in the Current capture plug-in box. If not selected, select Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in, and then click OK. 5. Click the Capture settings icon, and then click Video Properties. 6. When capturing video from a DVD-RAM disc, make sure if the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD CAM drive has been selected. When capturing video from a DVD-R disc, make sure if the VIDEO_TS folder in the DVD CAM drive has been selected. If not selected, select the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD-RAM disc or the VIDEO_TS folder in the DVD-R disc. 7. Click the Capture video icon to start capturing video. Tip Capturing video may take a long time. To shorten the capture time, create a play list of clips only you want to capture with the DVD CAM, and then select the play list to capture in the Select Playlist dialog box. Capturing Movies How to export programs recorded on a DVD-RAM disc with the DVD CAM into your PC 1. Start DVD MovieFactory SE, and then click Capture video. 2. Click the Capture plug-in icon. 3. In the Current capture plug-in box, select Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in, and then click OK. 4. Click the Capture settings icon, and then click Video Properties. 5. When capturing video from a DVD-RAM disc, select the DVD-RTAV folder in the DVD CAM drive. When capturing video from a DVD-R disc, select the VIDEO_TS folder in the DVD CAM drive. 6. Click the Capture video icon to start capturing video. 7. In the Select Playlist dialog box, select a play list that you want to capture or ALL, and then click Next. 8. In the Select Scenes To Capture dialog box, select one or more thumbnails of scenes that you want to capture. Tip To select two or more successive scenes, click one thumbnail, hold down the Shift key, and then click the hold down the Shift key, and click the end scene of them. To select two or more scenes each, hold down the Ctrl key, and then click any scenes. Capturing video may take a long time. To shorten the capture time, create a play list of clips only you want to capture with the DVD CAM, and then select the play list to capture in the Select Playlist dialog box. Capturing Still Pictures Using any programs that support still picture files in the JPEG format, you can capture still pictures stored in the 100HPNX1 folder under the DCIM folder on a DVD-RAM disc. Note Do not delete any files or folders or change those names on a DVD-RAM disc when capturing. 6
7 Tip You can copy still pictures to the PC using My Computer. Copying Still Pictures to the PC using My Computer 1. Insert a DVD-RAM disc from which you want capture pictures to the hard drive into the DVDCAM. 2. When you capture still pictures from a DVD-RAM, turn on the DVD CAM to the PHOTO position. 3. Connect the DVD CAM with the PC. 4. Open My Computer, and then double-click the DVD CAM drive icon. 5. Open the 100HPNX1 folder under the DCIM folder on a DVD-RAM disc. 6. Right-click still picture files that you want to capture, and click Copy. Note Do not delete any files or folders or change those names on a DVD-RAM when capturing. 7. Open a folder where you want to save the copied files, right-click the folder, and then click Paste. 7
