5 Custom Basemaps You can create your own Basmaps Assemble the content for your basemap in Explorer Save your map as a new basemap Automatically added to the Basemaps Gallery

20 Extending Explorer You can extend Explorer by creating Add-ins 4 Types of add-ins Button Dockable Window Gallery Extension One or more add-ins are packaged in an add-in file (.eaz)

21 Add-ins: The Add-ins File One or more add-ins are packaged in an add-ins file (.eaz) An add-in file contains One or more.net assemblies An XML file describing the add-ins Other supporting files (images, etc.) The XML file contains the information necessary to display the add-in in the user interface

23 Add-ins: Conditions Pre-defined application states you can reference to enable/disable your add-in Avoids redundant logic for checking application state across multiple add-ins. E.g. A note is selected A feature layer is selected Presentation tools are available Condition is referenced as part of add-in declaration in the addins.xml

24 Add-ins: Building & Testing Steps: The normal Visual Studio compilation process happens. An add-in file (.eaz) is created. The add-in file contents are verified. The add-in file is deployed ready for testing on the development machine. During development the Addins tab is used by default Intended for testing and debugging Addins tab also used by GIS expert Add-ins added manually appear in this tab

25 The ArcGIS Explorer Add-In file (.EAZ) The deployment unit of an ArcGIS Explorer add-in Zip archive with the file extension.eaz Contains Addins.xml - describes the customizations contained in the file Compiled code Supporting files Images for buttons on the ribbon One or more Add-Ins per.eaz file Explorer unpacks the.eaz file to load customizations Browse the contents of the.eaz file

26 Add-ins: Deploying and Sharing The primary way add-ins will be deployed is via an application configuration The end-user sees these as core functions of the application in the Ribbon along side built-in controls You can also share add-ins by sharing the add-in file (.eaz) , etc ArcGIS Online sharing Virtual Directory

28 Dockable Window Behaves like other built-in dockable windows Derive from the abstract class DockWindow Which derives from System.Windows.Forms.UserControl Provides a surface to place other Windows Forms controls (UI) Appear as separate child windows of the application Can be docked or floated A button is used to show and activate the DockWindow.

29 Gallery Displays on the ribbon Runs code when the user clicks an item in the gallery Derive from the abstract class Gallery Override OnClick Placed on the Ribbon and populated with items at runtime
