2 Introduction Thank you for using the VC701SI. System requirements This software requires a PowerBook computer running Mac OS X (version to ) with a Compact Flash Type or PCMCIA Type slot. Depending on the machine, peripherals connected and the application software used, there may be compatibility issues even on computers that match the above requirements. Precautions for Use Please read the VC701SI User Guide before using the VC701SI. Do not remove the VC701SI from the PowerBook while it is in use (with the LED of the VC701SI turned on). Disconnect any connections before powering off the PowerBook. The VC701SI may become warm in use, but this is not a malfunction. Please hold sides of the VC701SI to remove it. The VC701SI cannot dial up a connection when the PIN authentication feature of your USIM card is turned on. Make sure to initiate a dial-up connection after turning the feature off using the program you used for PIN settings. For details on your USIM card, PIN code and PUK (PIN Unblocking Key), please read the instructions for the USIM card. For details on how to use the PowerBook and installed applications, please read the operation manuals that come with the hardware or software.

4 1.Access Internet Vodafone offers a direct connection to the Internet called Access Internet, which eliminates your need to sign up with a separate ISP. Vodafones Access Internet service is charged separately at a special rate. Setup Information Following are the information to be entered to set up your connection to Access Internet. Configuring Mac OS X Registering VC701SI Procedures herein that are described with example screen shots of Mac OS X 10.3.x are also applicable to Mac OS X 10.2.x. 1.Switch on your PowerBook and start up the Mac OS X. 2.Double-click the downloaded file Vodafone VC701SI.dmg and it will create a virtual volume Vodafone VC701SI. Copy the Vodafone VC701SI (CCL file only for VC701SI) contained in the virtual volume to [Macintosh HD] > [Library] > [Modem Scripts] folder. CCL file is a required file when using dialup function in Mac OS with VC701SI. 3.Restart your PowerBook. 4. Insert the VC701SI to the PC card slot of your PowerBook. Check whether VC701SI is registered or not. Confirm that the LED of VC701SI is green and blinking. Confirm that the card icon is displayed in the PowerBook and Vodafone VC701SI is indicated in the drop down menu. Reinsert VC701SI if the above is not displayed. VC701SI is successfully registered.

6 Creating A New Dial-up Connection Procedures herein that are described with example screen shots of Mac OS X 10.3.x are also applicable to Mac OS X 10.2.x. 1. Insert the VC701SI to the PC card slot of your PowerBook. 2.Select [System Preferences] from [ Apple Menu] and then click on [Network]. 3.Select [PC Card Modem] from the [Show] field. Confirm that the [PPP] tab is selected and enter the Service Provider, Account Name, Password and Telephone Number in respective fields. To use the Vodafone "Access Internet" service, enter the following: Packet Communications Account Name: vodafone@connect Password: vodafone Telephone Number : *99# 64K Digital Communications Account Name: ai@vodafone Password: vodafone Telephone Number : *7300

7 4.Click on [PPP Options]. Uncheck the [Send PPP echo packet] checkbox under Advanced Options and Click [OK]. 5.Click on the [TCP/IP] tab and enter the IP address specified by your service provider in the [DNS Servers] field. To use the Vodafone Access Internet service, no address entry is required. 6.Select the [Modem] tab and select Vodafone VC701SI for your modem. Check the [Show modem status in menu bar] checkbox. Click [Apply Now] and close the [Network] window.

8 If the Vodafone VC701SI does not appear in the Modem field, you might have copied a wrong CCL file in a previous step. Please check whether the Vodafone VC701SI is found in the [Modem Scripts] folder in the [Macintosh HD] > [Library] > [Modem Scripts] folder. If it is not found, copy the CCL file in accordance with the steps indicated in 2. Configuring Mac OS X (page 4).

9 Connecting to the Internet Procedures herein that are described with example screen shots of Mac OS X 10.3.x are also applicable to Mac OS X 10.2.x. 1.Locate and click on the telephone icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Select [PC Card Modem]. 2.Click on the telephone icon again and select [Connect]. The VC701SI will start establishing a connection. 3.To disconnect the session, click the telephone icon and select [Disconnect]. 4.Before removing the VC701SI, click on the pc card icon displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen and select [Power off Card]. Eject the VC701SI normally from the PC card slot.

10 3.Troubleshooting My computer does not detect the VC701SI. Is the VC701SI seated properly in the PC card slot? The computer will not be able to detect the VC701SI if it is not seated properly in the PC card slot and the PC card adaptor. Make sure that it is inserted properly. Cannot dial up Is the VC701SI seated properly in the PC card slot? The computer will not be able to dial up if VC701SI is not seated properly in the PC card slot and the PC card adaptor. Make sure that it is inserted properly. Is the USIM card inserted properly? The VC701SI cannot dial up without a USIM card inserted properly. Eject the VC701SI and make sure the USIM card is inserted properly. Is the signal strong enough? If the signal is faint or weak, the VC701SI may have difficulty establishing a connection. Also, if the signal is out of range, the VC701SI cannot dial up. Is the connection set up correctly? Please make sure the connection settings are correct. Isnt the PIN authentication feature of your USIM card enabled? The VC701SI cannot dial up a connection when the PIN authentication feature of your USIM card is turned on. Please initiate a dial-up connection after turning the feature off using the program you used for PIN settings. For details on how to verify and change the PIN settings, see the VC701SI User Guide. The LEDs do not light up Eject the VC701SI once and re-insert it in the PC card slot. The red and green LED are blinking alternately The USIM card may be inserted improperly. Eject the VC701SI and make sure that the USIM card is inserted properly.
