2 Introduction Thank you for using the Vodafone Connect Card VC701SI and Global Roaming Setup Tool for Mac OS X. About the Global Roaming Setup Tool The Global Roaming Setup Tool (hereafter the tool ) is a tool that sets a network operator when global roaming for the Vodafone Connect Card VC701SI (hereafter VC701SI ). The tool can also set other settings such as APN and PIN authentication, as well as check the signal strength for the selected network operator when roaming. The required operating environment for the tool is as follows: A PowerBook equipped with either a Type Compact Flash slot or a Type PC Card slot (using the PC Card adapter) and running: Mac OS X ~ Please visit the Seiko Instruments web page ( for the latest technical information and a complete list of compatible models. Getting Ready An executable file (this tool) will be created when the downloaded file is extracted. This tool functions as a single, self contained executable file.

5 1. Feature Overview This tool allows you to use the following features. List of features Feature Name Roaming Settings Options Japan Mode Automatic Mode Manual Mode Signal Strength APN Settings PIN Settings Details Select this mode when using the VC701SI inside Japan. When using the VC701SI outside Japan, use this mode to automatically select a network operator from available operators. The network operator is selected from the Vodafone group automatically. When using the VC701SI outside Japan, use this mode to manually select a network operator. Shows signal strength of the connected network. APN List Display Add APN Modify APN Delete APN PIN authentication Change PIN Shows a list of APNs stored in the VC701SI. Adds an APN to the VC701SI. Modifies an APN stored in the VC701SI. Deletes an APN stored in the VC701SI. Set whether PIN authentication is validated or not. Change the PIN.
6 Launching 2. Launching and Quitting Launch this tool by double-clicking on the VC701SI RoamingTool. Quitting To close the tool, click on the X button at the upper left corner of the tool window.
7 About the Main Window 3. Main Window The following window appears after the VC701SI has been inserted and this tool has been launched. If the messagethis card does not support Global Roaming. Roaming Settings cannot be allowed. is displayed at the bottom of the window, Roaming settings cannot be configured until the VC701SIs firmware has been upgraded with thefirmware Upgrade Tool. For more information, see the Firmware Upgrade Tool user guide. If a pop-up window displayingenter PIN appears, please enter the correct PIN to continue. If the PIN authentication is validated, a dialup connection can not established. To validate PIN authentication, see page 23. Item Roaming Settings APN Settings Options PIN Settings Description Minimizes the window. Closes this tool. Opens the Roaming Setting window. Opens the APN Settings window. Opens the PIN Settings window.
8 4. Roaming Setting Feature About the Roaming Setting window This window is used to configure the global roaming settings. Click Roaming Settings to open the following window. Press Japan Mode and Automatic Mode to set each respective setting. Item Current Setting Japan Mode Automatic Mode Manual Mode Signal Strength Displays signal strength after changing the Roaming Mode Description Indicates the mode selected for the current connection. Vodafone JP will be selected automatically. Please select this mode for use in Japan. Automatically selects a network operator when roaming. The network operator is selected from the Vodafone group automatically. Please use this mode when roaming outside Japan. Selects a network operator from operator list when roaming. Please use this mode when roaming outside Japan. Displays signal strength. Check this box to display signal strength indicator each time you change roaming mode. It is recommended you check this setting.
9 Usage Inside Japan Japan Mode Setting Please select Japan Modewhen using the VC701SI in Japan. If you selected Automatic Modein Japan, the time for connection might be longer. When Vodafone JP is selected through Manual Mode, the current setting is set to Japan Mode. 1. Click Japan Mode on the Roaming Settings Window.
10 If you checked thedisplays signal strength after changing the Roaming Mode box in Step 1, the signal strength indicator appears when the mode has been changed ( Page 17). If you left the box unchecked, the window shown in Step 2 appears. 2. Confirm that Japan Modeappears in the Current Setting box. Setup is now complete.
11 Usage Outside Japan Automatic Mode Setting Automatic Mode automatically selects the Vodafone network available at the user's location. 1. ClickAutomatic Mode on the Roaming Settings window. 64K Digital Communication is not available outside Japan. If you want to use 64K Digital Communication in Japan, please set tojapan Mode.
12 2. When the following pop-up window appears, click OKto set to Automatic Mode. 3. If you checked thedisplays signal strength after changing the Roaming Mode box in Step 1, the signal strength indicator appears when the mode has been changed ( Page 17). If you left the box unchecked, the window shown in Step 4 appears. 4. Confirm that Automatic Mode appears in the Current Setting box. Setup is now complete.
13 Manual Mode Setting This mode allows you to select a network operator yourself. 1. Click Manual Mode on the Roaming Settings window.
14 2. The following window appears and a list of currently available network operators will be created. Do not remove the card or turn off the power while the operator list is being created. It may take a few moments to complete the list.
15 3. The operator list appears. Select a network operator and click the Select button. Click the Refresh button to recreate the operator list. The Select button is disabled when you are selecting the same network operator which has been set already. Item Operator List Refresh Select Back Description Shows a list of available network operators. Searches available network operators and updates the operator list. Selects a network operator from the operator list. Returns to the initial screen of the Roaming Settings window. The name of the network operator may be displayed as a numerical string if the name is not identified. Recreate the operator list if no network operator is found or if the signal strength is weak. When Vodafone JP is selected throughmanual Mode, the current setting is set tojapan Mode. 64K Digital Communication is not available outside Japan. If you want to use 64K Digital Communication in Japan, please set tojapan Mode.
16 4. The following pop-up window appears after clicking the Select button. When Vodafone JP is selected, the following pop-up window appears. Click the OK button to set to Japan Mode. If you checked the Displays signal strength after changing the Roaming Mode box in Step 1, the signal strength indicator appears after the mode has been changed ( Page 17). If you left the box unchecked, the window shown in Step 1 appears. the window shown in Step 5 appears.
17 5. Confirm that the selected network operator appears in the Current Setting box. Setup is now complete.
18 Display Signal Strength About Signal Strength You can check the signal strength of the network that you selected. 1. Click the Signal Strength button on the Roaming Settings window, and the following window appears to automatically launch the signal strength indicator. If you checked the Displays signal strength after changing the Roaming Mode box on the Roaming Setting Window, the signal strength indicator appears when the mode has been changed. Click the Cancel button to cancel the signal strength indicator function. It may take a few moments before the signal strength indicator appears. Do not remove the card or turn off the power while launching the signal strength indicator.
19 2. The Current Network Operator and the signal strength indicator will be displayed. Click the Back button to return to the Roaming Settings window. If the indicator shows that you are out of range, try moving to a location with a stronger signal or change the network operator. The following window appears while closing signal strength indicator. And the window will return to the Roaming Settings.
20 5. Options Normally, it is not necessary to set the following options. APN Settings You can add, delete or modify APN. APN is an acronym for Access Point Name that is utilized for connecting packet communication. Each APN is assigned a CID registration number. To connect to the APN, specify the CID following the telephone number. After clicking the APN Settings button, the following window appears. Item Add Modify Delete What is an APN? Undo Save Description Select a blank item from the list and add a new APN. Modify an APN that has been selected from the list. Deletes an APN that has been selected from the list. Displays a description of APN and CID. Cancels the changes you have made to the APN list. Saves the displayed list of APNs to the card. Click the Savebutton otherwise your changes will not be applied.
21 Add an APN Select a blank item in the APN Settings window and click the Add button to open the following window. Enter an APN into the APN field and click the Apply button. Click the Apply button in the above window and then click the Save button on the APN Settings window in order to register the added APN(s) in the card. APN Item A field to enter the APN. Description Apply Back Adds the entered APN and returns to the APN Settings window. The added APN will be saved to the card after clicking the Savebutton on the APN Settings window. Returns to the APN Settings window.
22 Modify an APN Select an APN in the APN Settings window and click the Modify button to open the following window. Modify the value in the APN field and click the Apply button. Click the Apply button in the above window and then click the Save button on the APN Settings window in order to register the modified APN(s) in the card. APN Item A field to enter the APN. Description Apply Back Modifies the entered APN and returns to the APN Settings window. The modified APN will be registered in the card after clicking the Savebutton on the APN Settings window. Returns to the APN Settings window. Delete an APN To delete an APN from the list, select the APN in the APN Settings window, click the Delete button and then click the Savebutton. The APN is not deleted until you click the Savebutton.
23 PIN Settings Validate the PIN authentication and change the PIN from the PIN Settings window. The PIN cannot be changed unless PIN authentication has been validated. A PIN is a 4 to 8 digit code (single-byte numbers) that must be entered whenever the VC701SI is turned on to prevent its unauthorized use by third parties. However, please note that if PIN authentication has been validated, dialup connections can not be established. Also, frequent PIN authentication may be required while using this tool. Click the PIN Settings button to open the following window. Item PIN authentication Change PIN Description Validates or invalidates the PIN authentication. Changes the PIN. Enter the current PIN and the new PIN in the next window that will appear. If an incorrect PIN is entered three times in a row, the PIN will be automatically locked. Make a note of the PIN or take other necessary steps to make sure you remember. See Troubleshooting ( Page 25) if the PIN has been locked.
24 PIN authentication Click the PIN authentication button to open the following window. To validate PIN authentication, check the Validate PIN authentication box and click the Apply button. Item Validate PIN authentication Apply Back Description Selects validate/invalidate PIN authentication. By checking this box, you can increase the level of security Applies validate/invalidate PIN authentication as you selected. Returns to the PIN Settings window.
25 Click the Apply button, and then the following window appears. Enter the PIN. If an authentication fails three times in a row, the PIN will lock and the USIM card cannot be used. Change PIN Click the Change PIN button to open the following window. Enter the Current PIN, New PIN and New PIN (confirmation) fields and click the Change button. Click the Change button, the main window will be displayed. Item Current PIN New PIN New PIN(confirmation) Change Back Description Enter the PIN currently in use. Enter the new PIN. Enter the new PIN a second time for confirmation. Changes the PIN. Returns to the APN Settings window.
26 6. Troubleshooting Unable to establish a connection after setting to Japan Mode You may be in an area with a weak signal or out of the service area. Move to a location with a stronger signal and try again. Are you trying to make a connection outside Japan? Japan Mode is for use only in Japan. Please note that Japan Mode does not work outside Japan. Unable to establish a connection after setting to Automatic Mode You may be in an area with a weak signal or out of the service area. Move to a location with a stronger signal and try again. It may take a while to establish a connection when attempting a dialup connection. Try again after selecting a network operator via Manual Mode. Unable to establish a connection after setting to Manual Mode You may be in an area with a weak signal or out of the service area. Move to a location with a stronger signal and try again. Are you attempting to connect in a country different from the one where Manual Mode was originally selected? Please reselect the network operator and try again. Unable to use the Global Roaming Setup Tool One of the following may prevent you from using this tool. Using the tool on an unsupported operating system. Using the tool with a VC701SI that has not been upgraded to a Global Roaming version of the firmware. The computer does not recognize the VC701SI. A USIM card has not been inserted in the VC701SI. PIN authentication is canceled, although PIN authentication has been validated. The PIN is locked. Try the tool again after checking the above.
27 Unable to establish 64K Digital Communication 64K Digital Communication of VC701SI is not available outside Japan. 64K Digital Communication is not available in Automatic Mode and Manual Mode. If you want to use 64K Digital Communication in Japan, please set to Japan Mode. Forgotten PIN Contact Vodafone Customer Service. See the Customer Support contact information on page 27. PIN has been locked After three consecutive incorrect PIN entries, the PIN will become locked. Contact Vodafone Customer Service for the PIN Unlock Code (PUK Code). See the Customer Support contact information on page 27. The PIN Unlock Code has been locked If the PIN Unlock Code has been incorrectly entered 10 times in a row, it will no longer be possible to unlock the PIN. If this has occurred, a new USIM card must be reissued (a fee will be charged). Contact Vodafone Customer Service. See the Customer Support contact information on page 27.
