3 Mounting location of the Expander board The Expander board can be installed either in the main metal housing or for flexibility of installation it maybe installed in a remote location away from the main EZ24 PCB & housing. The following provides details of how to install and wire it within the main housing, however these instructions can be used if mounted in a remote location.. A Expander can be mounted inside the metal enclosure on the left hand side of the EZ24 main board using the supplied SWG Circuit Board Glides. If additional expanders are required, they can be mounted in either an SWB4, SWB28 enclosure (or remotely in a Ness DX housing). The SWG Circuit Board Glides attach to the enclosure at strategically placed 2-hole punch patterns. Note that one hole in each pattern is slightly larger than the other. The small hole is for a 6/32 type F mounting screw and the large hole is for a half-moon shape locator tab on the bottom of each glide. 2. Starting at the top left corner, loosely start a 6/32 mounting screw in the small hole of the first 2-hole pattern. Place the slotted edge of a board glide under this screw, making sure that the half-moon tab fits into the larger hole and the grooved edge is facing down. Tighten the screw using a long shafted screwdriver. Install a second board glide in the 2-hole pattern 52mm below. Attach the second board glide using the same procedures. The grooved edge of this glide should face up. 3. Slide the MXIN board into the grooves provided by the glides. The circuit board should slide freely. If loose or too tight, simply loosen one of the mounting screws and adjust the glide to assure a good fit.on the boards are relative to that board only. The actual zone ID is based on the starting address setting. Wiring connections 4 Wires is all that is required to connect the Expander to the main PCB. It is strongly recommended that Cat5e cable be used for this connection is the cable length is longer that 5 metres.. Power Down the EZ24 system. 2. Use a 4 wire cable to connect terminals +VKP, Data A, Data B, and Neg from Control to terminals 2V, A, B, and Neg on the expander. (This is the same inout as where the Keypad is shown connected on page 5 of this manual.) NOTE: If the zone expander is remotely mounted, refer to information on page 2 in the Main Installation Manual for important information about data bus devices connected to multiple homerun cables. 4. Set Address Switches to address 2. (i.e. Switch off, 2 on, 3 off & 4 off) 5. Power up the Control and the expander(s). 6. Use Keypad to access the Installer Programming Mode and go to Menu 0-Bus Module Enrollment. Press the right arrow key to start enrollment. To view the results, press the right arrow "edit" key. 6. Go to Menu 05- Definitions and enable any of the new zones. numbers printed on the boards are relative to that board only. The actual zone ID is based on the starting address setting. Please Note: s -8 are on the main PCB and s 7-32 are on the first expander. s 9-6 do not exist on the EZ24 system. Ness EZ-24 Control panel - Summary Manual 3

5 Keypad & Module Wiring Both the Systems Keypad and the module(s) are wired to the Data Bus Input For cable runs over 5 metres then it is recommended CAT5e cable is used. Output Wiring Output 2 - Siren Ouput can be either a Horn Speaker Output or a 2 Volt siren output. As default it comes as a horn speaker however it can be programmed as a voltage output. Both internal and external need to be the same versions (e.g. both Horn speaker versions or both Voltage versions.) Please refer to page xxx - xxxx for details of how to change it to a voltage output. (It is recommended to use a Horn speaker on this output.) If no sirens are used then this output needs to be sealed with a 2k2 resistor. Note: When using Horn speakers in parallel on this output do not go below 2 (i.e. 4 x 8 horn speaker on the one output) IMPORTANT - Registering / Enrolling modules into the system. Once installation is completed all modules (e.g. Expanders, keypads etc) need to be enrolled / learnt into the EZ24 system. This is done by having the EZ24 scan them. Follow these procedures each time you add or remove something to the 4 wire databus. ENROLLING:. Press the MENU key, then 9 (or scroll up) to display 9 - Installation Programming. However there are various external factors that may impede or restrict the operation of this product in accordance with the product s specification. These factors include, but are not limited to:. Erratic or reduced radio range (if radio accessories are installed). Ness radio products are sophisticated low power devices, however the presence of inband radio signals, high power transmissions or interference caused by electrical appliances such as Mains Inverters, Wireless Routers, Cordless Phones, Computers, TVs and other electronic devices may reduce radio range performance. While such occurrences are unusual, they are possible. In this case it may be necessary to either increase the physical separation between the Ness receiver and other devices or if possible change the radio frequency or channel of the other devices. 2. Unauthorised tampering, physical damage, electrical interruptions such as mains failure, electrical spikes or lightning. 3. Solar power inverters are a known source of electrical interference. Please ensure that this product and all associated cabling is installed at least 3 metres away from a solar power inverter and its cabling. WARNING: Installation and maintenance to be performed only by qualified service personnel. CAUTION: Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type.
