1 Machine Tool CncGcoder Version as of 7/11/2003. The simple way to read, write, store, and edit CNC Machine Tool G-Code programs. Getting Started: First connect the CncGcoder device to the machine's CNC serial port using the special cable provided. (Your machine must have an RS-232C communications port to use the CncGcoder) This cable has been tested on many CNC controls including Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Yasnac, Okuma, Mazak, Dynapath, AB, GE, Brother, and Fagor Controls. Since each machine builder can customize the machine control and port configuration, this standard cable may not work for all controls. Please contact CncGcoder support about custom cables for your application if the standard cable does not work. Program operation is preformed using the 9 buttons on the main screen: Send, Receive, Settings, Export, Import, Machines, Save, Load, and Delete. There are also two menus: Options, and MemoPad. The lined edit area on the lower half of the screen will contain the current CNC program information and is fully editable in Normal File Mode. Tap on the edit area to make any changes and use Graffiti or the on screen keyboard. Because most CNC programs require uppercase letters only, the CncGcoder software automatically sets the Graffiti caps lock on when the edit area is tapped. Refer to the TRGpro manual for information on using the on screen keyboard or Graffiti writing. Edits made on files in Large File Mode (files larger than 32K) will display on the screen for reference but will not be saved or transmitted. CNC Programs received can be up to 32,000 characters long each (~80 Meters of tape) in normal mode, and up to 1,000,000 characters long each in Large File Mode. The Program Name area displays the current program name and is editable. The Machine Setup area displays the currently active machine settings file. Button Operation: SEND Button: Tapping the Send button will transmit the current CNC program to the CNC control using the current Machine Setup Settings. Tap the screen anywhere to abort the send. RECEIVE Button: Tapping the Receive button will place the CncGcoder into a receive mode. The CncGcoder will wait 30 seconds for data. The current Machine Setup Settings will be used. Tap the screen anywhere to abort the receive mode or the program will time-out after 2 seconds of no data received. The CncGcoder will automatically switch into Large file mode if the data received is larger than 32K. SAVE Button: Tapping the Save button will save the currently displayed CNC
2 Program in the CncGcoder memory storage. The G-Code program must be given a name on the Prog. Name: line before it can be saved. The saved program is linked to the currently active Machine Setup. The same program or program name can be saved under multiple machine setups. All saved programs and settings with be backed-up to your desktop at hotsync time. LOAD Button: Tapping the Load button will display all CNC Programs in the CncGcoder memory storage saved under the currently active Machine Setup. Tap on the Program file you wish to retrieve for editing or sending. If you do not wish to load a different program file, tap the undo button to exit the screen without any changes. DELETE Button: Tapping the delete button will remove the current program under the current machine settings from the CncGcoder memory storage only! For safety the program and program name will stay in the edit area and can be saved or sent again. EXPORT Button: Tapping the export button will save the currently displayed CNC Program in a special export file that is saved on the desktop PC at HotSync time. This file can later be converted to a standard PC file using the FROMPALM conversion software on the desktop PC. Only the most recently exported file is sent to the Desktop PC at HotSync time. ONLY ONE G-CODE FILE CAN BE EXPORTED PER HOTSYNC! IMPORT Button: Tapping the import button will load in to the edit area a special import file from the Desktop PC. The imported file is created from a standard PC file using the TOPALM conversion software on the desktop PC. Only the most recently imported file after a HotSync session is loaded. ONLY ONE G-CODE FILE CAN BE IMPORTED PER HOTSYNC! MACHINES Button: Tapping the Machines button will display all machine setups in the CncGcoder memory storage. Tap on the Machine Setup you wish to make active. For safety the current program and program name will stay in the edit area, but activating a different setup will effect the communications settings immediately. SETUP Button: Tapping the Setup button will display the current CncGcoder settings and they can be changed to match your machine's configuration by tapping on the items. (Your machine control must be setup to communicate using ISO or ASCII punch codes. The CNCGcoder DOES NOT work with EIA punch codes at this time!) Set the Baud rate to match your machines setting or choose IR to use the IR port. (IR DATA IS ALWAYS 7 BITS & EVEN PARITY REGUARDLESS OF OTHER SETTINGS) The Handshaking option is to turn on Hardware (also know as: RTS/CTS) handshaking.
3 The Xon/Xoff option is to turn on Software (also know as: Xon/Xoff) handshaking. The Strip Extra CR's setting allows the CncGcoder program to remove any extra end of block carriage returns added by the CNC when G-code programs are received. (Most modern CNC's allow you turn off the extra end of block carriage returns with a parameter change, it works best to set the machine to send only a single line feed as a EOB code.) The Send Delay setting allows the CncGcoder to add a 1 second delay between blocks of data at sending time. The Send Delay setting also causes the CncGcoder to send 200 "Nulls" or "Leader" at the start of the G-code program. Setting this option ON may help eliminate "buffer overflow" errors on older CNC's at higher baud rates. The Machine Name is the name of the machine settings profile and can be changed to create new machine settings profile. Tap the Save Settings button to update the machine settings profile and exit the setup page. The Erase Machine button is used to permanently remove the current machine settings profile and all G-Code Program associated with that machine settings profile. MenuBar Options: Options Menu: Program Help: This will display the CncGcoder help information file. You can also access the help by tapping on the (i) Icon in the upper right hand corner of the main CncGcoder screen. Options Menu: About CncGcoder: This will display the About screen with the user name, serial number, and program version number. MemoPad Menu: SAVE MEMO option: Tapping the Save Memo button will save the currently displayed CNC Program in the Palm Memo Pad program. This save option allows G-Code programs to be exported to the desktop PC at hotsync time for saving or editing as PC files. Due to file size a limitation in the Memo Pad program, only G-Code programs 4,000 characters or less can be saved to the Memo Pad. MemoPad Menu: LOAD MEMO option: Tapping the Load button will display all Memo Pad files in the handheld device. Tap on the file you wish to import into the CncGcoder program for editing or sending. This option allows G-Code programs on the desktop PC to be imported from the desktop PC at hotsync time. If you do not wish to load a Memo Pad file, tap the undo button to exit the screen without any changes. Other information: All settings, machine setups, and G-code programs are backed up to your desktop PC when you HotSync using the palm desktop software and the serial cradle. Use the Export or Save Memo and Import or Get Memo buttons to import and export PC files to the handheld. Refer to the TRGpro manual (on the CD) for information on using the Palm desktop software.
4 Keep handy an extra set of standard Alkaline AAA batteries. DO NOT use rechargeable batteries, they do not produce the same voltage as alkaline batteries and may effect the performance of the serial port. See the TRGpro manual for directions on changing the batteries. If you damage your unit or accidentally erase the memory of the CNCGcoder please contact CncGcoder support for information on how to restore your data using the palm hotsync program. About the CncGcoder CNCSync Utilities as of 6/10/2003. This folder contains the CncGcoder Utility programs to convert CNC G-Code programs between the CncGcoder Palm unit and your desktop PC. NOTE: These Files will not work if run directly off the CD. You must copy the files to your C: drive. From the CD, double click on the file named "Install.bat" to copy the folder/files to the root of your C: drive. You must also install the palm desktop software before you can use the CNCSync Utilities. If you have any questions about how to do this please contact CncGcoder support. This CNCSync folder contains: ToPalm.EXE - This program will convert any text or G-Code file on your PC to a HotSync palm data file that the CncGcoder can import using the import button on the main screen. To use the ToPalm program, simply drag and drop your file onto the ToPalm file using the windows explorer. ToPalm will covert the file and then you must HotSync the CncGcoder and tap the import button on the main CncGcoder Screen. NOTE: Due to the CncGcoder's file size limits, the PC file to be converted must be less than 1,000,000 Bytes in size. Larger files will be truncated. FromPalm.EXE - This program will convert and exported G-Code file from the CncGcoder into a standard text file. Using the windows explorer simply click on the file FromPalm.EXE to convert the exported CncGcoder data. FromPalm will open the file in an editing window. When exiting the FromPalm application, it will prompt you to name and save the file on the PC. NOTE: This program will not work if you are using multiple CncGcoder Palm units. Please Contact RBR for a special version to use multiple CncGcoders on the same PC. CNCimp.EXE - this file is required for FromPalm to run and must be in the same directory as FromPalm.BAT. About CncSync.TXT - This Help File. Install.BAT - This file will copy the utilities to your C: drive. Palm2PC.bat - After running FromPalm.exe it will create this file that contains the path to your CncGcoder data files. Do not erase this file.
