3 Hands-on Demonstration: Post Configurator Enhancements You can now use an integrated Tcl editor to more quickly edit and validate Tcl code. The editor uses colored text to help you manage syntax, code completion to display valid variables and methods for you to choose from as you edit, syntax validation to help you find coding errors, and provides the ability to select any Tcl-based file that is sourced into your post. In addition, Customer Defaults allow you to specify default settings for the Post Configurator. 3

4 Prerequisites: 1. You will need access to NX CAM in order to run this demonstration. Demo: For this demonstration, you will retrieve a part file and machine tool assembly from the NC Simulation Samples library. 1. Select Menu Help Manufacturing Tutorials. 2. In the Shortcuts section at the bottom of the Manufacturing Tutorials home page, select Open a Sample Part. 3. Scroll down and select sim01_mill_3ax_cam_sinumerik_mm.prt from the NC Simulation Samples list. 4. Click OK in the Open dialog box. You will begin by creating a new postprocessor and observing the new look and behavior of the Edit Post Configurator dialog box. 5. Create a new folder on your Desktop and name it Post Output. This is where you will save your new postprocessor. 6. Select Menu Tools Post Configurator. 7. Click Create New Postprocessor. 8. Type my_post in the Name box. 9. Click Browse and navigate to the Post Output folder on your desktop. 4

5 10. Specify the following. Controller: Sinmuerik 840D Manufacturer: Sinumerik OOTB Machine: Sunumerik Sample Machine Level 11. Click OK. 12. Close the Information window. 13. Point to my_post in the Postprocessor list and notice that there is now a post path tooltip displayed. 14. With my_post selected in the Postprocessor list, click OK. The new Post Configurator dialog box displays. 15. Select Clamping to display its properties. You can now reset a modified parameter by clicking the User Defined icon beside the parameter value. The ability to reset a single parameter saves time and reduces the risk of errors. 5

6 16. Select ON from the Clamp status list. The Inherited icon changes to User Defined. 17. Click User Defined. 18. In the menu that appears, click Inherited to revert the parameter back to the default value. 19. Click Edit Post Configurator File. The Post Configurator File Editor allows you to more quickly edit and validate the Tcl code. The text is now highlighted in different colors. Black = Standard color, no highlight Blue = Tcl Keywords Green = Strings Next, you will see how code completion displays valid commands as you edit. 20. Scroll down to a line 217 and click to place the cursor at the end of the line. 21. Press the Enter key to create a new line. You will use code completion to recreate the line above. 6

7 22. On line 218, type lib. The editor displays valid commands for you to choose from. Syntax validity is checked separately. 23. Select LIB_GE_CONF_set_property_access from the list. The command is added. 24. Press the space bar and type con. Again, the editor displays valid commands for you to choose from. 25. Select CONF_SPF machine from the list. 7

8 The command is added. 26. Press the space bar and type a. 27. Select all from the list. 28. Press the space bar and type b. 29. Select BASIC from the list. 30. Press the space bar and type h. 31. Select HIDE from the list. Line 218 should be identical to line 217. Next, you will edit line 217 by typing in an invalid command to see how syntax validation allows you to easily find coding errors. 32. Backspace over the commands in line 217 so that line 217 is blank. 33. Type ddd on line 217 and do not select any of the listed commands. 34. Click OK. 8

9 A warning appears, indicating that the post configurator file contains syntax errors. 35. Click Return to Editor and List Errors. An Information window displays indicating that ddd is an invalid command. 36. Close the Information window. 37. Click OK in the Editor window. 38. Click Continue in the Edit Post Configurator File window. This action saves the changes you made to the Tcl file, including the invalid command. 39. Click Edit Post Configurator File. 40. Scroll down to line 217 and notice that the invalid command has been saved. 41. Backspace over ddd to remove the invalid command and click OK. The warning dialog box no longer appears. 42. Click OK in the Post Configurator dialog box. 9

10 Next, you will see how you can edit any Tcl file that is sourced into your post. To do this, you will add a new Tcl layer to the post processor and then observe how you can select it using the new user interface. 43. On your desktop, double-click the Post Output folder to open it. 44. Copy my_post_service_s840d.tcl and rename it my_new_post_service_s840d.tcl. 45. Open my_post.psc using a text editor. 46. Copy <Filename Name="my_post_service_s840d" Processing="true"/> and paste it at the end of the sequence. 47. Edit the copied file name so that it reads "my_new_post_service_s840d" 48. Save my_post.psc and close the text editor window. Now you will see how you can select either one of the two sourced Tcl files. 49. In NX, select Menu Tools Post Configurator. 50. With my_post selected in the Postprocessor list, click OK. 51. Select the Edit Post Configurator File list and notice that you can select either one of the two Tcl files to edit. 10

11 52. Click Cancel in the Post Configurator dialog box. Lastly, Customer Defaults for the Post Configurator dialog box have been added. 53. Select Menu File Utilities Customer Defaults. 54. Select Post Configurator. Show Filter Group determines whether or not a Filter option appears at the top of the Post Configurator dialog box. It allows the content of the dialog to be filtered by license. 55. Close the part without saving. 56. Delete the Post Output folder from your desktop. 11
