1 Solutions to several problems with LC-Flash by Pieterjan Ruysch Requirements for the tutorial: - Adobe flash CS3/CS4/CS5 (and perhaps even CS2) - LC-Flash - Sothink SWF Decompiler or another SWF decompiler (Sothink SWF decompiler has never failed for me) 30 day Trail: Things to know before reading: Despite looking at the text on this page: there s not many text but mostly images with description/instructions. The Improvement method results differ from flash. Sometimes it gives a reduced point count from points to points <= points decrease! Sometimes more/less or none. This method applies to: - weird lines inside objects that are not being seen on the actual flash itself. - A strangely higher amount of points where such amount isn t needed - Doubled lines Introduction LC-Flash is a cool flash to laser converter already. Off course it s not intended to convert just any flash file to laser, because flash files may contain action scripts or other things which prevent them from working correctly in laser. By applying the techniques discussed in this document, it brings the possibility of using more flash files to laser. The methods discussed here are not only for that aim alone though, if you for example hire in a flash creator, then there is a chance (especially with characters) that you get lines that should be inside the character itself, or other weird objects. This might be because of the way that creator works, and we don t want to try and limit the creator itself in his way of working. 1

2 Removing strange overlapping lines Step 1 : choosing a flash file In my case I chose: Sample part 1.swf and sample(before).swf The reason why I chose too is to show you that the results can be a great difference or little (sample(before).swf will have the biggest improvement after this method is being applied used) Not a hard step, you can get a decent flash.. but don t overdo it way to much with the complexity and object count. More information about this is on the original LC-Flash manual (with the exception of the fixes of some things that were said to be unusable at first. Step 2: Run it once through LC-Flash Not that hard either. Run it and see how it looks: Sample part 1.swf Looks normal. but is not. Take a look at those eyes The hair go s through it Adding extra points No problems sample(before).swf Noticible problem. One shape and the objects that are normally covered by a fill are now visible as outline Increased points A lot more points. Same situation as mentioned above: Hidden hair is visible. An increase in point count. Notice those weird inner lines (especially seen on sample(before).swf) This or similar might be a thing that you might come across when for example just importing a flash from the web. Double lines can also be a result. 2

3 Step 3: Decompiling the flash (In this step I m using Samples\1.Main Method\bonus\sample(before).swf ) I have provided.fla files for the example and use to follow the images if you want. But I will also explain how to decompile yourself. It s only 3 steps in total, so there we go:!attention! after the decompiling is done the flash preview in the program can suddenly start playing. With my version of sothink SWF Decompiler I have to close the program to make it stop. 3

4 Step 4: applying the solution I m using the decompiled flash file (from the previous step) which is now a.fla file. You can also find this file in: Samples\1.Main Method\bonus\sample(before).fla Double click on a shape (in this case a character) You ll see something like this 4

6 Now you can publish it with the settings set to adobe flash 6 To publish you go to: File > Publish Or press: Alt+Shift+F12 Resulting file when applied to every shape is this: Samples\1.Main Method\bonus\sample(after).swf Import that in LC-flash. 6

7 Fixing import problems + actionscript message box (NEW) Prompt because of actionscript You get this error? Solution: If the swf has a play button on the start: 1. Decompile the flash 2. remove the first 1 or 2 frames (that contain the menu and loading screen) 3. publish again and import It might work on some cases only though. Why does this work? Well some menu s actually prevent LC-flash from reading out the rest of the flash. Thus giving that prompt above. 7

8 No prompt Keep in mind - bitmaps don t work - video files in flash don t work If the flash loaded and you see nothing then your flash file runs with the aid of actionscript, affecting the timeline. In most cases LC-Flash will prompt you about this. If not because of actionscript: Either ask the creator of the script for the.fla file or ask him to republish it with the publishing settings set to: Adobe flash 6. If the flash is of the net or by any other way not possible to get the.fla then you need to decompile the flash and publish it again with the settings set to adobe flash 6. (decompiling flash discussed later in the steps of the improvement method) 8
