1 2012 SARS efiling APP QUICK GUIDE The SARS efiling App is a mobile application which taxpayers can install from the App Store on their mobile device (android phone/ tablet or Apple iphone 4/4S and ipad) in order to complete and submit their individual Income Tax Return (ITR12). STEP 1: DOWNLOADING THE SARS EFILING APPLICATION FROM THE APPLE istore (visit to view the download process for Android devices) 1. Open the App Store by tapping on the App Store tile on the springboard of your Apple device. 2. Type SARS efiling into the Search Box. Once the App appears in the search results, tap on the FREE button to continue. 3. Tap on the INSTALL APP button 4. Type in your APPLE ID and Password and tap OK to continue 5. The App will start loading, then install as indicated below. When the App has completely installed, the SARS efiling App tile will be displayed on your springboard. 1 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

2 6. You can now tap on the SARS efiling tile and the login page will be displayed. Enter your efiling Username and Password and select Login to continue. In the event that either the username or password is incorrect, a Login Failure message will be displayed. 7. If you have forgotten your login details, tap the question mark (?) and the following options will be displayed to reset your login name or password. Select the appropriate option. 8. 3 9. You can register for efiling using the SARS efiling Mobile App. Tap the question mark (?) on the login screen. You will be routed to the SARS efiling mobiste to complete the registration. Select Register to continue. 10. The Registration Work Page will be displayed and must be completed. 3 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

4 11. Individual Details contains fields to complete, e.g. Title, Initials, Firstname, Surname, Date of birth, Tax Reference Number. 12. Contact Details contain information, e.g. Preferred method of contact, Home number, Fax Number, Work Number. 13. Address information contains details, e.g Physical Address, Postal Address and Work Address. 4 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

5 14. Banking information contains details, e.g Bank, Branch Name, Branch Number, Account Holder Name, Account Number and Account Type. 15. If it is a Tax Practitioner completing the registration, the below fields must be completed. 16. Login complete a login name, password and password hint. 17. A list of Security Questions need to be completed. These questions will assist you in case you forgot your password and would like to reset your password in future. 5 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

6 18. A unique Security pin will be displayed to each taxpayer, that must be completed in the Verify Security Pin field. 19. On completion of all the registration fields, tap the Register to continue with the efiling registration process. If you wish to cancel the registration, tap the Cancel. 20. The Mobile efiling Terms and Conditions page will be displayed after successful login. Select the hyperlink to view the website terms and conditions. 7 21. The Home screen, as indicated below, will be displayed if you have previously logged into the App. 22. The following Welcome page will be displayed after the Home screen. After the welcome page has loaded, tap Next to continue. 7 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

8 23. The efiling Work Page will now be displayed. Ensure that all relevant sections are completed. If there is missing information in any of the sections, a red indicator will be displayed next to the container that is incomplete. 24. Personalize Your Return contains the standard questions to populate all the relevant sections of your ITR12. The Menu button on the screens will guide you back to the list on the Income Tax Work Page. 25. Taxpayer Information entails your personal, demographic information, Voluntary Disclosure, Bank Account Details, Practitioner Details and Declaration information. 8 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

9 26. Employees Tax certificate contains a summary, Employer Address Details, Income Received, Deductions / Contributions, Tax Withheld, Pay Periods and Directive Numbers information. 27. Tap Refresh IRP5 Data to update the IRP5 details and tap Ok to continue. 28. Errors will be displayed continuously when information/details are entered with errors. 9 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

10 29. Taxpayer Deductions A list of the taxpayer Deductions will be displayed according to the answers selected in the Personalize Your Return section. Allowable Deductions for example, medical deductions. 30. Ensure that you save your return before submitting. A message will be displayed to confirm if you want to save the changes if you made any changes. 31. You can Calculate Tax at the bottom of the screen in order to view an estimation of your assessment. 10 SARS efiling App Quick Guide

11 32. Please ensure that the date is completed on your declaration under the Taxpayer Information section. 33. Your statement of account can be viewed on the efiling App. 34. When you have successfully submitted your return and the return has been assessed, the following screen will be displayed. Tap LOGOUT when you are done. 35. 12 when the assessment is incorrect. The Home page will be displayed, select the return that you want to make changes on. The Personal Income Tax Return will be displayed with all the containers in the return as previously submitted. Tap the relevant container to change accordingly. Continue with the same steps as when you submitted your return the first time to complete the Request for Correction. 36. If you want to query the status of your return, tap the Query Status button and the status will be displayed. 37. A survey will load after you have submitted your ITR12 and have logged out.
