1 Key Strokes To make a histogram or box-and-whisker plot: (Using canned program in TI) 1. ing Data: To enter the variable, use the following keystrokes: Press STAT (directly underneath the DEL key) Leave the cursor on EDIT (or 1) If you have other headings than L1, etc., you can change them to L1 etc. by: o Press the Stat key o Arrow down to 5 SetUpEditor o o o Go back to the first step above. Under the L1, type the values of the variable. You do not have to sort the data. 2. Graphing the Histogram: To graph the Histogram, go to STATPLOT 1, (press 2nd Statplot) Use the arrow key to make sure that ON is highlighted, then press ENTER. Next use the arrow key to highlight the third choice under TYPE (looks like a Histogram) and hit ENTER. XList: o If you want to look at the data in L1, make sure that Xlist is L1 (if that is where you put it in Step 1) and Freq is 1, If this is not the case, use the arrow keys to scroll down to whatever the Xlist is set to and change it (L1 is 2nd 1). o If you want to look at other data, you can press 2nd STAT (LIST), select the data you want, and set Freq to 1 Now press GRAPH. You may have to press the ZOOM key, and scroll down to #9 ZoomStat to get the graph looking correct. If the number of cells is not correct, press the WINDOW key, and change the Xscl to the appropriate cell width. 3. You can get the Quartile box and whisker, by changing the graph selection to box and whisker. There are two choices, one showing outliers and one that does not. NOTE: You can only get one box-and-whisker plot using the one in STAT PLOT. You can graph multiple box-and-whisker plots by using the program Boxplot that was given in class. To Sort Data 1. You can sort data by pressing STAT and then scroll down to 2: SortA(. This allows you to specify the list (L1) and it will sort the values for you. You do not have to sort the data to start! 2. To sort one column and keep the relationship to a second column, use Sort List,,. This will sort the data in List, and take the data in and along for the ride.
2 Transfer Applications and/or Files To transfer applications from one calculator to another (cannot send APPS with a TI-83, since they do not have an APPS key. A TI-83 must send individual programs): Receiver (all TI-83 s and 84 s): a. 2 nd x (Link) b. Arrow over to RECEIVE c. d. Screen should show the calculator is waiting Sender (for the straight TI-83): a. Do after setting up the receiver b. 2 nd link c. Press PRGRM d. Highlight each program by arrowing down to the desired program and pressing enter at each program you want to transfer e. Right arrow enter Sender (for TI-83+ and TI-84 s): a. Do after setting up the receiver b. 2 nd link c. Scroll down to Apps d. e. Scroll down to specific application you want to send f. g. Right arrow to transmit h. i. Screen should show that it is done. Send the following programs: a. Binomial b. Boxplot c. Category lets us categorize any variable. Can split GPA by gender or class size d. CLT demonstration program. Will repeatedly pull samples of a given size from a set of data to help show students the central limit theorem e. Confint a. Dotgram - Shows dot plot and box plot above it f. Dotplot g. FreqDist h. FreqRaw i. InvChi

Waiting probability simulation y. Quit Missing Delete Applications to Make More Memory Space To delete applications to make more memory space: 1. Press 2 nd + (Mem) 2. Scroll down to 2 Mem Mgmt/del Scroll down to what you want to delete, be it Apps, Prgm, etc Scroll down to the file you want to delete, and highlight the ones you want to delete by pressing by each one. A cursor should show up beside the selected files 7. Press Del 8. Scroll to yes It will defrag when you are done
4 Key Strokes to Make a Box-and-Whisker Plot: (using the programs we added) 1) To make a box-and-whisker plot: a) If the program is in APPS: i) Press APPS ii) Scroll to STAT-gm iii) ENTER iv) Scroll to Boxplot v) ENTER b) If the program is in PRGM i) Press PRGM ii) Scroll to BOXPLOT iii) ENTER iv) ENTER 2) the number of datasets. This allows you to compare the box-and-whisker plots of several data sets. If you are only looking one data set, enter 1. 3) If you are looking at the raw data a) Data Sets b) c) List? Find the data in 2 nd STAT (List) d) ENTER 4) If you are looking at the five-number summary: a) Scroll to SUMMARIES b) ENTER c) SAMPLE SIZE, i.e., the number of data points you have d) Minimum Value the smallest number, then enter e) the quartile values as requested, then enter between each one f) The graph(s) should show up on the screen. g) If the graph(s) disappear, press GRAPH To Calculate Mean, Standard Deviation, and Quartiles (5 Number Summary) 1) Press STAT 2) Arrow over to CALC 3) ENTER for one variable statistics a) To fine the mean and standard deviation of L1, press ENTER b) To find the mean and standard deviation of another list, designate the list, and then press ENTER
5 1. Press STAT 2. Scroll to 5: SetUpEditor 3. ENTER 4. DONE To Clear and Re-establish L1, L2, etc. To make lists in the SetUpEditor (basically replaces L1 with what ever list you are adding) 1. Press STAT 2. Scroll down to 5 SetUpEditor 3. ENTER shows L1 unless we specify another list 4. Specify list by: a. pressing 2 nd stat (LIST) b. scroll to desired list c. ENTER d. Add comma to be able to add more lists e. ENTER to see DONE 5. You can now look at list editor by: a. going STAT b. Edit c. ENTER to see the lists, but they are not really in L1 and L2. 1. Press APPS 2. Scroll down to 2 for TI ENTER 4. Scroll down to M StatClass (09) 5. ENTER 6. Select the list you want, like GENDER 7. ENTER 8. Get another or quit To add lists from StatClass (09)
6 To Split data and see Bimodal 1. This will look at height, and height spit between genders. 2. Press Category in your STAT-gm or PRGM. This will spit your data and put the parts in Θ1, Θ2, etc. 3. Press ENTER 4. DATA IN LIST? Get list from 2 nd list and pick Height 5. Categories(1-N) in list? Gender 6. Category 1? 1 7. Category 2? 2 8. You get a box plot of 1 and 2. These are the box plots of the heights of the males and females in the 2009 Statistics classes. 9. CHANGE GEARS 10. Now go to DotPlot 11. Compare Plots 12. Compare 3 plots 13. List 1 name is Height 14. List 2 Name? Θ1 15. List 3 Name? Θ2 16. Graph shows 3 dot plots: Height (bimodal) and Male and Female heights. You can change the window to eliminate the points far to the right.
7 Regression Key Strokes (Least Square Line / Line of Best Fit) On the TI-83 Calculator 1. ing Data: To enter the ordered pairs, use the following keystrokes: Press STAT (directly underneath the DEL key Leave the cursor on EDIT (or 1). If you have other headings than L1, etc., you can change them to L1 etc. by: o Press the Stat key o Arrow down to 5 SetUpEditor o o o Go back to the first step above. Under the L1 type the x coordinates. Under L2 type the y coordinates. BE CAREFUL when entering the points; enter 1 pair at a time, do not enter all of the x s and then all the y s. If there are already numbers in one of these columns, hit the up arrow key until the name (L1) is highlighted and then hit CLEAR-ENTER). 2. Graphing the Scatterplot: To graph the Scatterplot, first set the window so that the smallest and largest x coordinates are between x-min and x-max, and the smallest and largest y-coordinates are between y-min and y- max. Go to STATPLOT 1, (press 2 nd Statplot) Use the arrow key to make sure that ON is highlighted, then press ENTER. Next use the arrow key to highlight the first choice under TYPE and hit ENTER. Make sure that Xlist is L1 and Ylist is L2, If this is not the case, use the arrow keys to scroll down to whatever the Xlist is set to and change it (L1 is 2 nd 1). Set Ylist similarly. Highlight the first choice under mark and hit ENTER. Now press GRAPH.

Graphing the least-squares line: press STAT, arrow over to CALC, go down to the desired regression 4: LinReg (ax + b) or A: PwrReg, etc If you are not using L1 and L2 you must indicate which lists you are using at this point by pressing 2 nd 3 for L3, 2 nd 4 for L4, etc. Press Y= button Press Vars button Scroll down to 5: Statistics Arrow over to EQ Leave cursor on 1: RegEQ and press graph 4. To evaluate the least square line at a point: Press Second and then Trace Leave cursor on Value and press Put in your value of x The value of y will be calculated via the least square equation and shown on the screen. 5. To find the correlation coefficient r Go back to main screen by 2 nd Quit Press the VARS button Scroll down to 5: STATISTICS Arrow over to EQ Scroll down to r
