3 Dresser * MeterWare Installation and Operation Procedures I. Introduction This manual provides step-by-step instructions for installing and using the Dresser MeterWare User Terminal software. The User Terminal software is used to configure the Dresser D800/D1000 Meter, the ES3 Electronic Temperature Compensator with mechanical backup, and the ETC fully Electronic Temperature Compensator. This manual will help you: Install the Dresser MeterWare User Terminal software on your computer Install the hardware (IrDA) on your computer Connect the unit with your computer to: Configure the unit Calibrate the unit Save configuration files Download both data logs and audit logs Work with the Advanced settings Upgrade firmware Troubleshoot problems II. Before Beginning Configuration Dresser offers a complete communications kit, which includes the following: IrDA communication cable Mini CD included with IrDA drivers in IrDA package Magnet provided for initializing and scrolling through screens IrDA holders for both the D800/D1000 and ES3/ETC products Note: User Terminal Software CD (Meterware) is not included in the communicatons kit and must be purchased separately. 4 For the initial installation: Follow all steps under II A, B and C before beginning configuration. A. Install the Dresser MeterWare Software Close any programs currently open on your computer screen. Do not turn off your computer. 1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM player of your computer. 2. If you are running Windows 7 as your operating system, double click on the CD-ROM drive (generally the D: drive) and the screen depicted in Figure 2 will appear. Double click on the icon entitled Installer.exe and the MeterWare Selection Screen (Refer to Figure 3) will open. Once the MeterWare selection screen is open, then select the button entitled Install MeterWare and follow the instructions in Paragraphs 4 through 16 below. 3. If you are running Windows XP or older, the first screen you will see is the MeterWare Selection Screen (Refer to Figure 3). You will see a list of selections on this screen. Within 30 seconds, you will see the Welcome screen (Figure 4). 5. Select Next for the Dresser MeterWare to begin installation (Figure 4.) Figure 4 - Welcome screen for MeterWare setup 4

5 6. From the screen Select Destination Location, the Installer will prompt you to choose the place on your computer s hard drive where you would like the program installed. The default location is Program Files, as shown in Figure 5. You can select another location by using the Browse button. Note: the number following Dresser MeterWare refers to the specific MeterWare version you are installing. In the example in Figure 3, the version is Select Next once you have chosen a location. Figure 5 - Select destination for Installation files 8. From the screen Select Start Menu Folder, the Installer asks where to install the program shortcuts. You can choose to have these installed in the default location or choose a new location by going to Browse (Figure 6). 9. Select Next once you have chosen a location. Figure 6 - Placement of program shortcuts 10. From the screen Select Additional Tasks, the Installer asks if you would like to create MeterWare icons. If you select both boxes, the MeterWare icon will appear both on your desktop and in the quick launch area on your toolbar (Figure 7). 11. 6 12. From the Ready to Install screen (Figure 8), the Installer will ask you once again if you are ready to install the MeterWare software. Select: Install if you are ready to install Back if you would like to review or change your choices, Cancel if you do not want to install the software at this time. 13. The software program now automatically installs. You will see a green status bar go across your screen as the software installs. 14. Installation takes approximately three to five minutes, with progression showing on your computer screen. You do not need to do anything during this part. A screen will appear that indicates the software installation is complete (Figure 9). 15. Select Finish. 16. Installation is complete and ready for use when the Welcome screen of the software opens (Figure 16). Figure 8 - Ready to Install screen B. Installing Microsoft.net on your computer. Figure 9 - Finish screen for setup Note: If you are running a Windows operating system on your computer that is older than Windows 7, you will need to download Microsoft.net 3.5 framework from the internet. In order to do this, you will have to have Administrative Rights to your computer. If you do not have Administrative Rights to your computer, contact your IT department for assistance. Please also note that if your computer has Windows 7 installed, you do not need to download.net In order to download.net framework, please install the MeterWare CD in the CD ROM drive of your computer. The software will open the Dresser MeterWare Selection Screen depicted in Figure 2. From this screen, select the button entitled Install DotNet. The program will then prompt you with the following selection screen (Refer to Figure 10). If you do not have Windows 7 installed and you do have an internet connection available, select the Yes button on the selection screen and the MeterWare software will take you to the following url where you can proceed to download the required version of Microsoft.Net. details.aspx?id=21 Figure 10 - Microsoft.Net Framework selection screen 6

7 C. Install or Confirm IrDA Communication Between Computer and ES3/ETC/D800/D1000 Unit 1. Confirm Previous Installation of IrDA a. From your computer desktop, select Start in the lower left corner of your computer screen. Click once. b. Find Control Panel in the list of options. Click once. (If you do not see Control Panel, you should see Settings. From Settings go to Control Panel.) c. A screen will appear with a list. Find System, and click twice. d. The System Properties screen will pop up. Go to the tab labeled Hardware. Click once. e. Note the box labeled Device Manager and within that see the button labeled Device Manager. Click once. f. Find the item Infrared Devices. g. Underneath Infrared Devices, look for MosChip. h. If MosChip is not in the list, the IrDA has not been installed and you must perform that task. (Refer to step B.1.) i. If MosChip shows in the list, the IrDA hardware is installed and will be recognized by the computer during configuration (Figure 11). Back out of the windows by clicking the red X in the upper right-hand corner of each window. If the IrDA has not yet been installed on your computer, then you must install the drivers. Please Note: In order to install these drivers, you must have Administrative Rights to your computer. If you do not have Administrative Rights, please contact your IT Department prior to beginning this installation. Figure 11 - Confirm MosChip is installed D. IrDA Installation Instructions a. Insert the Installation CD for the Actisys IR Adapter cable into your CD drive b. If you are running Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista or Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit), make sure that the IR dongle is NOT plugged into the USB beforehand c. If the installer opens up automatically, then proceed to step f. d. If the installer does NOT open automatically, open the DVD/CD drive from My Computer. e. Run the setup.exe program. f. The driver installation will exit without any prompts to the user after successful installation. g. Restart your computer h. Plug the IR dongle ACT-IR2002UL into your USB port. i. A screen will pop up confirming that you have plugged in the IR dongle j. When a connection is made between the IR dongle and the IrDA driver software, a message indicating that the driver was installed successfully will appear in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. k. You can confirm successful installation of the drivers, as follows: Go to Start-> Control Panel-> system-> Device manager (Refer to Figure 12). 8 E. Connecting the IrDA Cable to the Computer 1. Plug in the IrDA communication cable to the computer s USB port and then to the ES3, ETC or the Series D meter, using the appropriate IrDA adapter (Figures 13 and 14). 2. Open the Welcome screen by double-clicking on the Dresser MeterWare icon (Figure 15). Figure 15 - Dresser MeterWare icon Figure 13 - IrDA connected to ES3 or ETC unit F. Establish Connection Between MeterWare and ES3/ETC or Series D Meter: 1. Open the Welcome screen (Figure 16). The version number and release date of the Dresser MeterWare software is indicated on the Welcome screen. Note: This is important information as you need to ensure that the installed version of the MeterWare software is compatible with the firmware in your ES3/ETC or Series D meter. While software is fully backward compatible, it is not forward compatible, and some of the new features in the product may not be accessible. If you have an older version of the MeterWare software, you will want to update it to the latest version. Contact your Sales Support Specialist for part numbers and availability. 9 2. Wake up the unit using the magnet supplied in the Communications Package. Observe the Status area at the bottom of the screen (Figure 19), which will move from searching for a connection to the yellow-highlighted message In Range, followed by a green-highlighted message Ready to Connect. The MeterWare software is now ready to connect to the device. 4. Select Connect. 5. A green status bar will move across the Welcome screen indicating the MeterWare is establishing communication with the device (Figure 20). 6. When communication is established, the status bar will turn green and display the message Connected (ES3/ETC or D800/D1000). 7. 10 III. Configuring the ES3 and ETC units or Series D meter A. Welcome Screen You are ready to begin configuration when: The screen titled Dresser MeterWare, which also states software revision and release date, is on your computer screen. A picture of your particular product type is showing on the screen. The status on this screen shows Connected and the photo displayed on the Welcome screen indicates what type of unit you are connected with (ES3, ETC or D800/D1000). The status bar, over the two buttons in the lower right of the screen, is green and filled to the edge. B. Configuration Screen 1. From the Welcome screen, select the Configuration tab, which will open the Configuration screen (Figure 20). From the Configuration screen, you can accomplish these tasks: Volume Configuration select items such as meter type, meter size and pulse output configuration. Compensation Configuration configure Live or Fixed Temperature and Fixed Factor Pressure units. Customize LCD choose the parameters you would like to display on the LCD of the device. Open and save Configuration files Create Configuration reports Upload any configuration changes from the MeterWare software to the unit Figure 20 - Configuration screen 10

11 2. Quick Configuration Area (Figure 21) When the Configuration screen is open, a Quick Configuration Area is established on the screen. This area: Provides a running summary of actions taken on the individual screens. (The process of moving screen by screen is explained in this manual.) Enables direct configuration of a single parameter by double clicking on the particular parameter. Double clicking will take you directly to the appropriate screen and parameter that you want to change. Note: Changes showing in the Quick Configuration summary that are highlighted in yellow have not yet been uploaded to the unit. Figure 21 - Quick Configuration Area showing changed parameters highlighted in yellow C. Using the Volume Configuration Screen From the Configuration screen, click the Volume button (Figure 21). The Volume Configuration screen (Figure 22) will open, from which you will be able to configure the following parameters. 11

12 a. Under Display area (Figure 22). a. Compensated Volume: select number of digits ranging from 5 to 8. b. Non-compensated Volume: select number of digits ranging from 5 to 8. Note: If you are configuring an ES3 unit, you will generally want the number of digits displayed in the Non-compensated field on the LCD to match the number of digits displayed on the uncorrected mechanical counter (Figure 24). Figure 22 - Volume Configuration Screen b. Under Meter Data area (Figure 24). a. Type: i. ES3: The ability to configure meter type and size is not available as these parameters were configured prior to the unit leaving the factory. The meter type and size on the ES3 are dependent upon the configuration of the mechanical gear reduction assembly, which is meter size/type specific. ii. ETC: The ability to configure meter type and size is available for the fully electronic ETC product in the MeterWare software section entitled Meter Data. Refer to Figure 24. The Meter Types available for the ETC are the Series B and the Series A (LMMA) meters, both imperial and metric versions. For the Series B meter, the available sizes are 8C through 16M and for the Series A meter, the available sizes are 1.5M through 16M. If you are connected to an ETC that has both a hardware and software configuration for a Series B meter, then the only available Meter Types you will see are Series B and Series B Metric. The same is true for an ETC shipped from the factory configured for a Series A meter. iii. The MeterWare also allows for user configuration of the Series D meter size D800 or D1000, both imperial and metric. b. Meter/Site ID: User configurable and allows entering specific company meter site identifiers, such as location or serial number. Figure 23 - Non-compensated index matching electronic display. 13 c. Under Pulse Output Allocation area (Figure 25). The information chosen will depend on the type of unit: ES3/ETC with AMR (see following explanation) ES3/ETC without AMR (see following explanation) D800/D all meters are AMR ready Figure 25 - Pulse Output Allocation parameters for ES3/ETC with AMR a. Pulse Outputs 1 and 2 (both Form A) Based on meter site requirements, select from among these 4 options: Compensated Fault Non-compensated Disabled b. Form A Pulse Width Configure the pulse width for Pulse Outputs 1 and 2, by clicking on the pull-down menu for options 50, 150 and 250 ms. The option you choose depends on the wiring requirements of the device you will be using. Note: Default configuration for Form A Pulse Width is 50 ms. c. Pulse Output 3 (Form B) There are only two options: Fault Disabled Note: The pulse width on Form B pulse is not user configurable. As shown in Figure 25, the pulse width is standard at 500 ms. Figure 26 - Information icon d. The Information icon helps you with wiring pulse outputs to the receiving device. Click on the icon (Figure 26), which will open a wiring diagram that is specific for the type of connected unit. In the example shown in Figure 27, this wiring diagram is specific for the ES3/ ETC with AMR. Figure 27 - Wiring diagram available from Information icon 13

14 ES3/ETC without AMR (Figure 28) a. Pulse outputs 1 and 2 (both Form A) Based on meter site requirements, select from among these 4 options: Compensated Fault Non-compensated Disabled b. Form A pulse width Configure the pulse width for Pulse Outputs 1 and 2 by clicking on the pull-down menu for options 50, 150 and 250 ms. The option you choose depends on the wiring requirements of the device you will be using. Note: Default configuration for Form A Pulse Width is 50 ms. c. Form B pulse: For ES3/ETC without AMR, the Form B pulse is unavailable; therefore, the word Disabled will be in the box and it will show as grayed out on the Volume Configuration Screen. (Refer to Figure 28) d. The Information icon helps you with wiring pulse outputs to the receiving device. Click on the Information icon (as circled in Figure 26) to display the wiring diagram for the ES3/ETC without AMR. Figure 28 - Pulse Output Allocation parameters for ES3/ETC without AMR 14 D800/D1000 Pulse Output Allocation (Figure 29): As stated earlier in this document, all Series D meters are shipped AMR ready. a. Pulse outputs 1 and 2 (both Form A) Based on meter site requirements, select from among these 4 options: Compensated Non-compensated Fault Disabled b. Form A pulse width Configure the pulse width for Pulse Outputs 1 and 2 by clicking on the pull-down menu for options 50, 150 and 250 ms. The option you choose depends on the wiring requirements of the device you will be using. Note: Default configuration for Form A Pulse Width is 50 ms. c. Pulse Output 3 (Form B) There are only two options: Figure 29 - Configuring the pulse outputs on the D800 meter Fault Disabled Note: The pulse width on Form B pulse is not user configurable. As shown in Figure 25, the pulse width is standard at 500 ms. d. The Information icon helps you with wiring pulse outputs to the receiving device. Click on the icon which will open a wiring diagram that is specific for the type of connected unit. If the unit you are connected to is a Series D meter, the wiring diagram accessed by clicking on the i icon is specific to that meter.

15 e. Under Meter Data area (Figure 30). The ES3 and ETC are available for use with both the Series B and Series A (LMMA) meters, Imperial and metric versions. If the product you are using is the ES3, in the customer version of the MeterWare software, these options will not be available because the uncorrected mechanical counter is configured to be a certain size and version at the factory, and the Meter Type and Size selected in the MeterWare software must be an exact match. For this reason, the customer is not given the option to configure this information using the software. However, for the Series D meter and the fully electronic ETC Electronic Temperature Compensator, since there is no mechanical gear reduction assembly associated with the unit, the MeterWare software will allow the user to configure meter type, size and Imperial or metric units of measure. Figure 30 - Meter Data options 5. Under Flow area (Figure 31). Allows you to choose the direction the gas is flowing through the meter (forward or reverse). Select from 5 volume accumulation methods based on the capability to read either the forward or reverse flow directions. The five volume accumulation methods are shown in Table 1 on page 16. If the accessory unit is either an ES3 or an ETC that is mounted on a Dresser rotary meter, there is a directional flow arrow on the nameplate of the meter, located on the meter cylinder: Forward Flow is gas flow moving in the direction of this arrow (generally referred to as Top or Side Inlet) Reverse Flow is gas flow moving in the opposite direction (generally referred to as Bottom Inlet) (Figure 31). For the Dresser Series D meter there is a small triangular arrow on the top of the meter, next to the left ferrule (spud). Figure 31 - Options for Flow Sense 15

Under Volumes area Allows you to configure the Compensated and Non-compensated Volume that will be displayed on the LCD (Figure 32). Note: When volumes are entered or changed in the Compensated and Non-compensated Volume fields, the box is highlighted in yellow. This indicates that the new volumes have not yet been uploaded to the corrector. Once the Upload to Unit task has been completed, the yellow will disappear from these fields. Note: If you are configuring an ES3 unit, you would generally want to match the Non-compensated Volume on the LCD with the Non-compensated Volume displayed on the uncorrected mechanical counter. Figure 32 - Configuring Compensated and Non-compensated Volume 7. Save Volume Configuration selections Click OK when ready to save the selections. You will be returned to the Configuration screen (Figure 20) where you have the option to upload the changes you have made to the unit by selecting Upload to unit. Note: it you choose Cancel on the Volume Configuration screen, all of the selections you have made will be removed. 16

17 D. Compensations Configuration From the Configuration screen, click the Compensations button. (Figure 20). The Compensation Configuration screen (Figure 33) will open, from which you will be able to: Set Temperature units in either Fahrenheit or Celsius. Enter Base Temperature Choose to measure Temperature as either Live or Fixed Factor Configure Pressure units in either PSI or kpa Enter Base and Atmospheric Pressure Enter either the Fixed Line Pressure or the Fixed Pressure Factor (whichever is known at the time). Figure 33 - Compensation Configure screen 1. Fixed Temperature It is important to specify a Fixed Temperature value, even though you have chosen the Live Measurement option (Figure 34). If the unit experiences a temperature fault, you can choose to allow the unit to continue to correct for temperature using the Fixed Temperature entered on this screen. 2. Select Pressure parameters: (Figure 35) a. Select either psi or kpa b. Enter Base and Atmospheric Pressure c. Select Absolute or Gauge Mode d. Enter the parameter for either Fixed Line Pressure or Fixed Pressure Factor. If you enter the Fixed Line Pressure, the unit will automatically calculate the Fixed Pressure Factor and vice versa. Figure 34 - Specify Fixed Temperature 3. Save Compensation Configuration selections Click OK when ready to save the selections. You will be returned to the Configuration screen (Figure 20) where you have the option to upload the changes you have made to the unit by selecting Upload to unit. Note: If you choose Cancel on the Compensation Configuration screen, all of the selections you have made will be removed. Figure 35 - Pressure parameters 17

18 E. Customizing the Parameters for Display on the LCD From the Configuration screen, click the Customize LCD button (Figure 20). The LCD Settings screen (Figure 36) will open. On this screen you will be able to choose to display certain parameters, depending on whether your accessory unit or Series D meter is configured to be Compensated or Non-Compensated. Please note if you have ordered the unit or meter from the factory as a Compensated device, Compensated Volume will be the default Main Screen. If you have ordered your unit or meter from the factory as a Non Compensated device, then the default Main Screen will be Non-Compensated Volume. If the unit or meter is a Compensated meter, refer to Figure 36. The default parameter on this unit is Compensated Volume. You will notice that the option to deselect Compensated Volume is grayed out. If your unit or meter is compensated, then Compensated Volume becomes the Main Screen. If the unit or meter is a Non Compensated meter, refer to Figure 37. The default parameter on this unit is Non Compensated Volume. You will notice that the option to deselect Non Compensated Volume is grayed out. Non Compensated Volume becomes the Main Screen On the Additional Screens, if you have selected Compensated Volume as your default Main Screen, then the only Additional Screen that cannot be deselected is Remaining Battery Life. Refer to Figure 36 -LCD Settings screen - Compensated volume default main screen Figure 36. However, if the Default Main Screen is Non Compensated Volume, then you are not able to select the following Additional Screens (Refer to Figure 37): Line Temperature Fixed Line Temperature Compensated Prove Mode Compensation Factor Non Compensated Residual As with the Compensated Volume default, the parameter for Remaining Battery Life cannot be deselected on this screen either. Select parameters by checking or un-checking the box next to the name, which indicates whether the parameter can be viewed or not. If you check a box that was previously un-checked, or un-check a box that was previously checked, the field will be highlighted in yellow, indicating that a change has been made. (Figure 36). The user-selectable parameters for the LCD display are: Line Temperature Fixed Line Pressure Flow Rate (helpful in Differential Testing) Meter Info Leak Test (used primarily for the D800/D1000 meter) Compensated Prove Mode Non-Compensated Prove Mode Battery Voltage (this is actual voltage) Remaining Battery Life Firmware Revision LCD Test (tests LCD sectors to ensure all sectors are working properly) Change Battery (alerts the user that the battery pack needs to be changed) 18

19 Compensation Factor Compensated Residual Non-Compensated Residual Base Temperature Base Pressure Atmospheric Pressure Non-Compensated Volume Under Fault (a separate register where non-compensated volume is accumulated while the unit is in an active fault state) 3. Save LCD Settings selections Click OK when ready to save the selections. You will be returned to the Configuration screen (Figure 20) where you have the option to upload the changes you have made to the unit by selecting Upload to unit. Note: it you choose Cancel on the LCD Settings screen, all of the selections you have made will be removed. F. Performing a Single Point Calibration From the Welcome screen, click the Calibration tab (Figure 19). The Single Point Calibration screen (Figure 38) will open. Click on the Single Point Calibration button. Figure 38 - Calibration screen Note: This procedure requires a stable and accurate temperature reference device for comparison. Allow enough time for the temperature to stabilize between the new probe and the reference temperature device. For the best results, submerge the new temperature probe and the reference temperature probe in a temperature controlled liquid bath. Figure 39 - Temperature Calibration screen 1. Temperature Calibration screen a. Click on Update Live Temperature (Figure 39). b. The Live Temperature will automatically update and the box entitled Offset Reference Temperature will be highlighted (Figure 40). Figure 40 - Update Live Temperature 19

20 c. Enter the Offset Reference Temperature in the highlighted area, taking the temperature from your calibrated temperature reference instrument. (Refer to Figure 41). d. Upload the new reference temperature to the unit e. Click on Upload New Offset (Figure 41). f. In the Enter Password screen (Figure 42), enter a password. The default password is the number zero (0). g. Select OK to upload the new reference temperature. If you choose Cancel, the temperature changes will not be saved. Figure 43 - Status Info screen i. After returning to the Temperature Calibration screen, click on Return to Calibration Screen to complete calibration (Figure 44) and return to the Welcome screen. 21 G. Using the Live Data Screen From the Welcome screen, select the Live Data tab. The Live Data screen presents a snapshot of activity in the unit at a point in time (Figure 45). While Volume information and Compensation parameters are available on the LCD and in the Logged Data Reports, it is useful to have this information when attempting to troubleshoot a problem with a particular unit. 22 1. Setting Alarm Limits a. From the Alarms/Faults screen, click on Alarm Settings to open the Alarm Settings screen (Figure 47). b. Enter the desired High and Low Temperature Alarm Limit in the appropriate field. When a new entry is added, the entire field will turn yellow. This indicates that the changes have not yet been uploaded to the unit. 2. Using Fixed Temperature under fault condition a. Check the box to the left of Use Fixed Temp. Under Fault if in a fault situation you want the unit to use the fixed temperature for volume correction. 3. Save Alarm Settings selections a. Click OK when ready to save the selections. b. You will be returned to the Configuration screen. c. Select the Configuration tab (Figure 20). d. Upload changes by selecting Upload to unit. Note: If you choose Cancel on the Alarm Settings screen, all of the selections you have made will be removed. Figure 47 - Alarm Setting screen I. Advanced Screen From the Welcome screen, select the Advanced tab (Figure 19). The Advanced screen (Figure 48) will open, from which you will be able to: Configure type of Fault Output signal you would like and which alarm parameters you want a pulse output for. 23 1. Configuring Faults and Alarms a. On the Advanced Screen, Figure 48, select the button entitled Fault and Alarms Configuration and the following screen will appear (Figure 49): b. On this screen, you will be able to do the following: Select the type of pulse output alarm you want o Continuous sends a steady string of pulses until the alarm or fault is acknowledged and cleared o Single (Latched) sends one pulse output when the alarm or fault occurs. Select the alarms you want a pulse output to notify you of. User selectable alarms include: o High Temperature o Low Temperature o High Flow o Volume Input c. When the type of pulse output or an alarm is selected or deselected, the parameter will turn yellow, indicating that the change has not yet been uploaded to the unit. Refer to Figure 49. Please note the Low Battery Alarm checkbox is grayed out as this alarm is not user selectable. Additionally, all of the faults are not user selectable, and these check boxes are grayed out as well. Also please note that the High Flow Alarm is not user configurable. It is set to a 20% over speed at the factory. Figure 49 - Faults and Alarms Configuration screen d. When you have completed your selections on this screen, click on the OK button. If you are satisfied with your selections, then click OK to upload to unit. If not, hit the Cancel button and it will return you to the Faults and Alarms Configuration Screen. Refer to Figure 50. Figure 50 - Upload to unit screen 23

24 e. After selecting OK, the Enter password screen will appear and ask you for the password. The default password is the number zero 0. Figure 51 - Enter Password screen f. Enter the password and select OK. The following message will appear (Figure 52), indicating that you have successfully uploaded the configuration changes to the unit. Please note that when making changes on the Fault and Alarm Configuration screen, because you can upload your changes on this screen, it is not necessary to return to the Configuration screen and upload fault and alarm configuration changes there. 25 2. Performing a Leak Test: Directions provided for the Series D meter. A common industry practice is to perform a leak test on a meter set after installation. The leak test feature provides a mean of detecting a leak (or gas flow) at any point downstream of the meter. Warning: When performing a downstream leak test, adhere to Federal, State, Company and Local codes and procedures, as applicable. a. From the Advanced Screen, select Leak Test to open the Set Leak Test Parameters screen. (Refer to Figure 53) If you accept these default parameters of a one minute leak test with the maximum flow rate at 60 CFH, then you can simply RUN the leak test. No further configuration is required. Figure 53 - Set Leak Test Parameters screen If you want to change the Leak Test Configuration, then: a. On the Leak Test Parameters screen, enter the number of minutes duration you want your leak test to run and the flow rate per hour you require as well. b. From the Set Leak Test Parameters screen (Figure 53), click on Config. The Enter Password screen will open (Figure 54). c. In the Enter Password screen, enter your password Note: The default password is the number zero (0). The password can only be numeric characters. No alpha characters. d. Select OK. e. You will get the message Save Operation Successful. f. Now you can proceed to run the Leak Test as you have configured it by selecting the Run button on the Set Leak Test Parameters screen (Figure 55). g. The MeterWare will prompt you with a question showing the number of minutes the leak test will run. (Figure 55) Select YES for the leak test to proceed. h. If you want to change the duration of the leak test, select NO, return to the Leak Test Configuration Screen, and enter the appropriate time you want to leak test the meter. i. Once the leak test begins, you cannot CANCEL the leak test. j. After testing, a PASS or FAIL notification is provided on both the computer screen as shown in Figure 56 and on the D800/D1000 meter LCD screen. 26 3. Test the Pulse Outputs a. From the Advanced Screen (Figure 48), select Test Pulse Outputs to open Send Test Pulses screen (Figure 57). 1. If you select Yes on the Send Test Pulses screen, the unit will automatically send 30 pulses for Compensated and Non-Compensated Volume and Fault if a Fault pulse is available on the connected unit. The pulse width of the Compensated and Non-Compensated Volume test pulses will be the pulse width you configured on the Volume Configuration screen. For example, if you chose a Pulse Width of 50 ms, the test pulses sent for both Form A pulses will also be 50 ms. If your unit is equipped with a Form B pulse output (for example, an ES3/ETC unit with AMR) and you have enabled that output on the Volume Configuration Screen, then 30 test pulses with a pulse width of 500 ms also will be sent when you select Yes. Figure 57 - Send Test Pulses screen 3. Changing both the Password and the Advanced Password a. From the Advanced screen (Figure 48), select Change Password or Change Advanced Password to open the Change Password screen (Figure 58). b. To change either password, you need to know the existing password for the connected unit. Remember, the default password that is configured into all units from the factory is the number zero (0). c. Please note that the new password can be numeric characters only. No alpha characters. d. After typing and verifying the new password, select OK. e. The new password will be uploaded into the unit. 27 J. Logging Data Logs and Audit Logs Note: The time on your computer is used by the User Terminal software for this step. From the Welcome screen, select the Logging tab (Figure 19). The Logging screen (Figure 59) will open, from which you will be able to: Download the Logged Data Report Download the Audit Log Report 1. Logged Data Reports a. Logged Data Reports are used for various purposes. The primary purpose is to collect billing information such as Compensated and Non-compensated volumes. b. The Logging screen allows you to select the date range of the logged data you would like to download. c. The unit stores 150 days of hourly logged data up to 3,600 hourly logs. The number of logs currently stored in Figure 59- Logging screen memory is displayed on the screen under Number of Hourly Log Records. (Figure 59) d. You can choose to download all or part of the stored data. When the memory is full, the most recent log replaces the oldest log in the memory. All logs are stored in non-volatile memory (E 2 Prom). e. The Data Log downloads as a comma delimited (.csv) file into commercially available spreadsheet programs such as MS Excel. f. The logging interval is fixed at one hour and is not user programmable. g. The logged parameters, which also are not user programmable, are: Log Number Log Date and Time Compensated Volume (ft 3 or m 3 ) Non Compensated Volume (ft 3 or m 3 ) Compensation Factor Non Compensated Volume Under Fault Conditions (ft3 or m3) Ending Temperature Battery Voltage Present Fault - Temperature Present Fault - Volume Present Fault - Internal Operations Present Fault - Low Battery Occurred Fault - Temperature Occurred Fault - Volume Occurred Fault - Internal Operations Occurred Fault - Low Battery Present Alarm High Temperature Present Alarm Low Temperature Present Alarm High Flow Present Alarm Volume Input Present Alarm Low Battery Occurred Alarm High Temperature Occurred Alarm Low Temperature Occurred Alarm High Flow Occurred Alarm Volume Output Occurred Alarm Low Battery 27

28 If the ES3 and ETC units or Series D meter does not have any present or occurred faults or alarms, the Logged Data report will show CLEAR in all hourly logs. However, if there is either a present or occurred fault or alarm, the Logged Data report will show SET in that particular hourly log. 2. Download a Logged Data report a. Select Download Data Log on the Logging screen (Figure 59). A download of the data log begins automatically and a green status bar will begin to move across the screen (Figure 61). This is a safety feature built into the MeterWare software to prevent you from losing any previous logged data. The software automatically downloads all logs that are present in the unit. c. After the software has completed downloading all the data logs that currently reside in the unit, the following screen will appear (Figure 62). d. Notice the message highlighted in green in Figure 62. i. To perform another Data Log Download from this unit, you will need to activate the Download Data Log option, which is currently unavailable (grayed out). The message on this screen prompts you to: Return to the Welcome screen and ensure your IrDA is still connected Connect with the unit On the Welcome Screen, select the Logging tab, which takes you back to the Logging screen Now Download Data Log will be available and you can perform another Data Log download. Figure 60- Data log download progress screen b. When the data log download is complete, a Save As screen pops up asking you to select a location for the downloaded log (Figure 61). The default file name for the Data Log report is DataLogTest. You can change the name of this report prior to saving it, if you wish. i. Select an existing location or create a new file, such as the example Data Download. It is important to choose a location that you can easily recall and find. You may want to record the location in a place other than on the computer. A suggestion may be to create a file with an easily recognizable name such as Data Downloads. ii. Double click on Data Download (Figure 61.) iii. Click Save, which places the new log data file in this folder. 29 2. Audit Log Reports The Audit Log saves a date/time stamped record of the most recent changes made to configurable parameters by recording the old value and the new value. The Audit Log is a useful tool in determining when material changes have been made to the configuration of the ES3, ETC or Series D meters. To download the Audit Log Report from the Logging screen, select Download Audit Log (Figure 62). b. The button then will become grayed out because the software is in the process of downloading the Audit Log (Figure 63). c. Once the MeterWare has completed the Audit Log download, a screen appears prompting you to save the downloaded Audit Log report to your computer (Figure 64). d. The default Filename for the Audit Log is AuditLogTest, and, as with the Data Log, is in comma delimited (.csv) format. e. 30 K. Creating a Configuration Report The Dresser MeterWare software provides the option to create a report of unit configuration. These are the same parameters currently displayed in the Quick Configuration Screen (Figure 65). Note: Without this report in the future, if you want to know the parameters set for the particular unit, you will need to connect to the ES3/ETC unit or the D800/D1000 meter and then view settings by going through each screen. The Configuration Report can be viewed on your computer screen and also saved for future reference. Figure 65 - Create report from Configuration screen 1. From the Configuration screen, click the Create Report button. 2. The Meter Configuration Report screen opens, which shows all the data listed in the Quick Configuration Area (Figure 66). This is in an easy-to-view Web page format (also known as html format). 3. From the Meter Configuration Report screen, you can choose to: Print the report Save the report to your computer Or Close the report without saving If you choose to Save the report, a Save As screen will appear prompting to give the report a name and to choose where to save the report (Figure 67). 4. To Save the report to your computer a. Click on Save Report (Figure 66). b. Save As screen opens (Figure 67). c. Select or create a folder for storing the report ( Config Report in this example). d. The report is assigned a file name automatically (16M ETC Test File Report in this example); however, you can name the file as needed for your site. e. Click on Save. 5. Save Configuration Report for Successive Units The Dresser MeterWare software provides a simple path to saving the same configurations for the initial ES3/ETC/D800/D1000 unit for uploading into successive units. This ability is useful when trying to configure several ES3 units of the same meter size and type. After completing the configuration and uploading the configuration changes to the unit you are connected to: 1. From the Configuration screen, click the Save Configuration File button. (Figure 68). 2. The MeterWare software will prompt selecting the location where you want to save this Configuration File. (Figure 69) a. You can use the default location or choose another location on your computer b. Make note of the location for Figure 68 - Save Configuration File the next step, uploading the Configuration File to another unit 3. The software will prompt naming the Configuration File (Figure 69). a. The default file name for the Configuration File is the information contained in the Cust. No and Ship To fields on the Volume Configuration screen. (Figure 21). b. If a different file name is preferred, you can change the name prior to saving the Configuration File. If these fields are blank, there will be no file name in the File Name field on the Save As screen. Uploading the Saved Configuration File to Other Units The Dresser MeterWare software provides a simple method to upload the configurations from the initial ES3/ETC/ D800/D1000 unit to successive units. 1. From the Configuration screen, select Open Configuration File. (Figure 70). Figure 70- Open Configuration File for upload 31

32 2. Locate the Configuration File that you want to upload from the Open screen. 3. Click once on Open (Figure 71). a. This will automatically return you to the Configuration screen. b. Notice that the data in the Quick Volume Configuration area has been highlighted yellow. This indicates that changes have been made in the software, but have not yet been uploaded to the unit (Figure 72). A prompt appears asking to Enter Password (Figure 73). 6. Enter the default password, which is the number zero (0). Note: If the password has been changed by using the Change Password feature under the Advanced tab, enter the current password. 7. Click on OK. 8. A confirmation screen displays stating the upload to the successive unit is successful (Figure 74). 9. Select OK, and the configuration process is complete. Upgrading the Firmware in the ES3/ETC/D800/D1000 Using the Dresser MeterWare software and the IrDA cable assembly, which is part of the communications kit, you have the option to upgrade current firmware revision to newer revision levels. NOTE: The IrDA cable assembly must be held firmly in place when attempting to upgrade firmware revision levels. If the upgrade is interrupted while in process, the firmware in the unit will be corrupted, and the unit will need to be returned to the factory for reprogramming. 1. Attach the IrDA cable Refer to Figures 75 and 76 for the proper placement of the IrDA cable. Figure 75 - Proper Installation of IrDA cable on a Series D meter. From the Welcome Screen in the MeterWare software, select the Firmware Upgrade tab (Figure 77). Figure 77 - Firmware Upgrade Tab B. From the next screen, click Select File (Figure 78). 34 C. From the Open screen, select the appropriate firmware upgrade file ending in.hex, which in this example is SW-0294-U3-1.67a.hex. (Figure 79). Figure 79 - Select the.hex file D. The Enter Password screen will open, prompting for a password (Figure 80). 1. The password is the Advanced password. The Advanced password is a numeric only password. The default advanced password is the number zero (0). If this password is changed by the user, the user should make note of the new password and keep this in a safe place. Figure 80 - Enter the Advanced Password E. Select OK and the firmware upgrade will begin. F. In the Status box on the Firmware Upgrade screen, the message In Progress will appear (Figure 81). Figure 81- Enter the Advanced Password G. The software also begins to search for the BootLoader, which is necessary to upgrade the firmware (Figure 82). 1. The Status area at the bottom of the screen shows progress locating the BootLoader, moving from Searching to a yellow highlighted message when the device is in range and a green highlighted messaged when located. H. Once communication is fully established, the firmware upgrade begins. Figure 82 - Device in Range: Bootloader 34

35 3. Firmware Upgrade Process A. There are three status bars, which will move across the screen as each of the three steps is completed (Figure 83). 1. Erasing Memory: the current firmware in the unit must be erased. 2. Uploading to Memory: once the previous firmware is erased, the unit is ready to accept the new firmware and begins the process. 3. Verifying: confirms that the new firmware has been uploaded properly. B. The square to the right of a particular function will change from red to green, confirming that a particular step in the firmware upgrade process has been completed, and the function can move to the next step. When the firmware upgrade is complete, the three squares are green and the screen displays the message Firmware updated successfully (Figure 84). D. Close the MeterWare software.
