13 2.9.1 Setup Problems If you are having trouble getting the system to start, please review the steps in the quick start guide to make sure your hardware is properly connected and recognized by the computer. If you have an older version of InstaCal, you will need to uninstall that prior to installation. After uninstalling the older InstaCal, search your computer for cbw32.dll. Specifically, if a copy of this file exists in your SysWOW64 folder (C Drive), then you need to delete it before installing the newer InstaCal. Once InstaCal has been re-installed and the computer has restarted, open up InstaCal with no DP1224 units attached. Next, attach only Board# 0 and wait for the bottom green LED to stop blinking and the top LED to remain on. Click the Refresh button, and InstaCal should recognize the unit and make it Board# 0. If it the board# is not 0, then simply right click the listing and select Change Board# and use the menu to set it to Board# 0. If you have any more DP1224 units, plug them in one at a time, using the Refresh button to have InstaCal recognize them as they are added Runtime Problems If the units have issue running for long periods of time, such as shutting off randomly, you may need to adjust advanced power settings in the Control Panel and Device Manager Control Panel The following steps will take you through how to change advanced power settings to adjust USB Sleep issues: Device Manager 1. Open Control Panel and click on System and Security 2. Click on Power Options 3. Find your currently selected plan (Should be High Performance), and click on Change Plan Settings to the right of it 4. Double check that the sleep settings are set to Never 5. Click on Change advanced power settings 6. Expand the USB settings entry and then expand the USB selective suspend setting 7. If on a desktop computer, there will be one entry and set to Disabled 8. If on a laptop, there will be two entries; set them both to Disabled 9. Click Apply at the bottom then OK 1. Go back to the Control Panel and select Hardware and Sound 2. Under the Devices and Printers heading, select Device Manager 3. Scroll down and find the Universal Serial Bus controllers entry and expand it 4. Right click the first entry and select Properties 5. Click on the tab labeled Power Management and deselect the box marked Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power and click OK 6. If there is no tab labeled Power Management click OK and move on to the next entry 7. Repeat steps 5-6 for each entry under Universal Serial Bus controllers VV-A/VV-DV
14 3.0 Vital View Data Viewer User Manual The Vital View Data Viewer (VV-DV) allows user to: Load in VV-A or VV Legacy data to view, filter, and convert to AWD files for use in Actiview or Clock Lab Circadian Analysis. VV Legacy data will also be converted to a.csv file. This will not alter the original files in anyway. 3.1 Loading Data To use VV-DV, click on Load Data or Load Legacy Data to get started Load Data You will be asked if the file is a Standard or DM file. Currently, DM files are not supported, so you will have to load the main file from VV-A (Click Standard) Load Legacy Data You will be prompted to select the.log file associated with the VV 5.0 (or older) data set. The other data files (.cfg,.evn,.cal, and.001 with any additional memory files) will need to be in the same directory for VV-DV to find all the data. Once loaded, the Analysis Data Load Selection Window will appear. You can choose which animals to load, and from what dates to load the data from. When done, click Ok, and the data will be loaded into VV-DV. The data will also be saved as a.csv file in the same directory as Temp Legacy CSV. This file can be used to convert animal data to AWD files without having to re-save your legacy data in a new format. VV-A/VV-DV
15 Once data is loaded (Standard or Legacy), the first 9 animals will be loaded into the graphs G1-G9. There is a selector above each graph, you can select any animal from that drop down to view. If you click on any graph, a Zoom window will appear with statistics for that animal, as shown in the picture below. 3.2 Zoom The Wheel Diameter takes any value; for example, if you have a 4 inch wheel, and you enter 4 into Wheel Diameter, the Distance Ran will be translated to inches. If you put in feet, the Distance Ran will be in feet. You can use the tools underneath the graph (the ones that are shaped like a plus sign, magnifying glass, and a hand). The Plus sign will allow you to move any cursors present on the graph. The Magnifying glass will allow you to select from several zoom tools. The Hand will let you move around the graph space (Click and Drag in any direction). 3.3 Filter The filter dialog allows you to alter your data for viewing. You can select any animal from the list on the left. Use Ctrl+Click to select several animals, or Shift+Click to select any number of animals in a row. All number boxes accept any real number. Scale Multiplies all data points by the number typed into the number box Offset Adds the number typed in to every data point Clip Low Any data below this number will be raised up to it Clip High Any data above this number will be clipped down to it Increase Time Base- Allows you to change your sampling interval by concatenating data sets. For example, if your sampling interval is 1 minute and you put 15 in the box next to Increase Time Base, it will add up 15 data points at a VV-A/VV-DV
16 time, which will effectively make the new sample interval 15 minutes. The timestamps will also update to accompany the data. Special Span Clicking this button will make a dialog box pop up. The From and To boxes will populate with all the times from the data collection session. Pick any time period, and the software will clip all the data in that time frame so that it can be viewed and saved as its own file. The software will prevent you from selecting a To time that starts before the chosen From time as well. This feature works on every animal regardless of what is selected in the Filter Dialog before clicking Special Span. 3.4 Convert to AWD Click on the Convert to AWD button on the main screen. The pop-up window (shown at left) will appear with the animal names displayed. You can select from one to all of the animals. Ctrl+Click will allow you pick out any animals, Shift+Click will allow you to select any number of animals in a row. Alternatively, you can click the Select All button to select all animals instantly. Next, click on the folder button and browse to a folder where you want your AWD files to be saved. Click Current Folder tab to save the location. It may take some time to finish converting all the animals, but once done, click Exit to return to the main screen. The AWD files can be found in the folder you selected with the filename: {[Animal Name] #.awd}. The # starts at 1 and increments for each animal converted, this is to prevent any filename collisions during conversion. After conversion is complete, you can rename the files anything you wish. 3.5 Save Filtered Data This feature allows you to save your data after it has been filtered as a new CSV file. It will pop-up with a file dialog, allowing you to select where it will be saved. The file type is always a.csv (Comma Separated Values file). VV-A/VV-DV
