1 How to I fix a project that is reporting missing images? Date : August 1, 2016 YearbookFusion projects saved to your local drive do not embed your images and fonts into the project itself, so as to keep your project file size as small as possible, thereby using less of your computer s memory resources and allowing you to create very large projects (large format, multipage projects with hundreds of images). If you add an image or a font to a project, save the project to your local computer or network, then do any of the following, your project will reopen with a missing image warning: rename, move or delete the image files after dropping them into your project; rename, move, or delete the folder containing the images files after using them in your project; move the project to another computer without archiving the project first; access a project with images and fonts saved to a local network drive on two computer, but the network drive has not been mapped identically on both machines (eg. the drive is called the R: drive on one computer and the T: drive on the other). A project that has lost the links to its sources images and fonts will open with a warning message. 1 / 17

2 Images that are unlinked will appear with warning red triangles, and text warnings will show where the files were expected to be found. Tip: Check out the folder and file path displayed on the image, as it will help you determine what has gone wrong. Try to navigate to the folder path in your File Explorer/Finder. Does that folder path exist? Was it renamed? If the folder(s) are in place, look at the image themselves - they were probably renamed, moved to a different folder, or deleted. Keep in mind that one extra space or one character difference will cause the images to become unwired. 2 / 17

3 Projects saved to remote storage (accessed via the My Book tab) should never report missing images, unless the project has not properly downloaded. A bad download can occur if your internet connection fails while the images are still downloading. To force the images to download, hit the F5 key on your keyboad while focussed on a page. You may see a download indicator, and the missing image warning may disappear. Repeat this process on all the pages of your project, force-downloading the images. If problems persist, please submit a support ticket under this portal's CONTACT section. Rewiring images You can rewire the images to a project, providing you are able to access the original images (ie the images have not been deleted). This is accomplished with the Missing Images tool, located under the Tool menu. 3 / 17

4 (A brief video tutorial for the Tools > Locate missing images feature is available here.) Rewiring Missing Image Go to Tools on the menu, and choose Locate Missing Images... The Image Locator tool will open. 4 / 17

5 Click on FIND MISSING to see thumbnails of all the affected pages. 5 / 17

6 When the page thumbnails appear, click on SELECT ALL at the top of the window - you will then see thumbnails of all missing images in the project. If you want to look at individual pages, checkmark the page thumbnails one by one. 6 / 17

7 Every missing image will display a red frame next to it. This is the image's "missing twin." 7 / 17

8 Next, find the folder(s) containing the missing image. Click on 2. BROWSE FOR SOURCES. The Browse for Folder window will appear - where you can navigate to the location where your images are saved. Click OK to select the folder when you have selected it. Note: if your images are in a single folder, point directly to that folder. If your images are within several sub-folders, point to the highest level folder - it will take longer to scan for your images, but you'll be able to rewire them all at once. 8 / 17

10 A progress bar will indicate that the folder is being scanned for images. The folder(s) with many images will take longer to scan than a folder with a few images. 10 / 17

11 If your files have not been renamed, choose the USE FILE NAME option (fastest method). If your image files have been renamed (or you are not sure), then use the USE IMAGE MATCH option. Click 2. MATCH - the software will compare the images in the selected folder with the thumbnails (or file names). If a match is found, the "missing twin" thumbnail will reappear. 11 / 17

12 Verify that all images have a match before proceeding, checking carefully for mismatches. Mismatches can occur if images appear similar (using the Image Match method) or if you have 12 / 17

13 pointed to the wrong folder which contains identically named images (using the File Name method). If the available matches are correct, click on Select All at the bottom of the window. if there are mismatches, either checkmark the correctly matched images and their twin, or Select All then unselect bad matches. 13 / 17

14 Once you have made your selection, click 4. APPLY MATCHES. If applicable, rewired images will vanish, leaving only images that did not have a "matching twin." Otherwise, the process has been successfully completed. 14 / 17

16 If there are no more issues with the project, click OK to return to the Create screen, where you can continue to edit your project. If there are still unwired images, their thumbnails will still appear. Repeat the steps, pointing to new sources where the images might be. Locating Missing Fonts The most common reason for a missing font warning is opening a project on two separate computers without archiving the project first. Rewiring fonts can be trickier than rewiring images. The easiest way to fix a missing font is to determine what font is missing (the Image Locator tool will show the name of the font). Install the same font on your other computer, either by downloading it from a reliable source, or by copying the font file from one computer to another. Search for "how to copy fonts" for your particular operating system on an internet browser to learn how to move your font file.
