8 Owner s Manual HOW TO CHARGE IPOD PLAYERS USING THE POWERSYNC CART CHARGING STEPS You are able to charge all 40 ipod players at the same time with the PowerSync Cart. LED charging indicators are provided for each storage bay to indicate each ipod charging status. Orange indicates the ipod is charging. Green indicates the ipod is fully charged. NOTE that the lights will be Green if an ipod is not plugged into the connector cable. IPOD CHARGING STEPS 1 Locate the Power Control Switch on the lower back panel and move it to the up or Off position. 2 Connect up to 40 ipod players to their connector cables for charging. Both the upper and lower drawers may be charged at the same time. 3 Move the Power Control Switch to the down or On position. Power will now be flowing to the PowerSync Cart and a blue light will indicate power to the drawer. LED lights will be Orange if a discharged ipod player is connected to the cable. 4 The ipod will be fully charged once the LED indicator turns Green. ESTIMATED CHARGING TIMES In tests, charging 40 fully discharged ipod players to a full charge averaged between 3 to 4 hours. Your results may vary. HELPFUL TIPS ON CHARGING Be sure that the backlight timer in each ipod player is NOT SET to Always On. If the backlight is set for Always On, it will constantly draw power from and deplete the ipod battery. The consistent battery drain will result in the PowerSync Cart charge indicator light remaining Orange, indicating the unit is charging. BRETFORD BRETFORD.COM/MADE4MAC 8
9 HOW TO SYNC IPOD PLAYERS USING THE POWERSYNC CART SYNCING STEPS You are able to sync up to 20 ipod players at the same time with the PowerSync Cart. 1 Locate the Power Control Switch on the lower back panel and move it to the Off position. 2 Attach all ipod players to their connector cable, ensuring a secure connection. 3 Plug one of the USB Sync Cables into your computer. You will only be able to sync up to 20 ipod players and should not plug both USB Sync Cables into your computer at the same time. The USB Sync Cables are located on the smaller cord winders on the back of the PowerSync Cart. 4 Turn the power switch to the On position on the back of the PowerSync Cart. At this point the LED charging indicators will light up, indicating power is flowing to the ipod players. SYNC TIP: For the best results, it is recommended that one computer be used to sync up to a full drawer of 20 ipod players. To sync a full cart simultaneously, it is recommended that two computers be used, one for each drawer. 5 Allow your computer time to recognize all the ipod players you wish to sync on the desktop or in the finder window. This may take a few moments to complete. To confirm that all your ipod players have been recognized please use the following methods: Open a new finder window on your Mac. Look for the disk images of each ipod and confirm they are all recognized. 6 Once your CPU has recognized all ipod players, each ipod will appear in the Devices menu in itunes and disappear from the computer desktop. Please allow several minutes for all the players to appear. Syncing will begin automatically if each ipod player s sync settings are properly pre-configured. Please refer to System Requirements for setting recommendations. 7 Once the sync process is complete, eject each ipod player from the itunes Devices menu. BRETFORD BRETFORD.COM/MADE4MAC 9
10 HOW TO SYNC IPOD PLAYERS USING THE POWERSYNC CART ESTIMATED SYNCING TIMES Based upon testing results of multi-ipod syncing, the process averaged the following times. Your results may vary. ipod Quantity Content Time 20 1 GB 20 Minutes 20 2 GB 35 Minutes HELPFUL TIPS ON SYNCING 1 DO NOT unplug the ipod from the connector cable until you have ejected the device from your computer. 2 DO NOT quit itunes until after all ipod players have been ejected. Quitting itunes will revert each ipod to Disk Mode and it will reappear on the computer desktop. Should this occur you will need to eject each ipod from the desktop a second time. 3 Should the syncing process be completed before the ipod is fully charged, leave the ipod plugged into it s connector cable until the charge indicator light turns Green. 4 If your computer does not recognize an ipod player there may be a bad connection. Unplug and reconnect the ipod to the connector cable. 5 For the best results, use the most current version of itunes software and perform regular upgrades to keep your ipod player s software up to date. Minimal requirements is itunes version PROVIDE EACH IPOD PLAYER WITH IT S OWN UNIQUE NAME. This is not required but will facilitate easy content management with itunes and identifying each player when ejecting the unit from your computer. 7 If you are using an older generation ipod that requires the most current software update, it is recommended you update the ipod outside of the PowerSync Cart as the software update process requires the power adapter that shipped with these ipod players to complete an update. USB compatible models that require a power adapter computer connection include the Third Generation ipod, Fourth Generation ipod, Fourth Generation ipod with color, and First Generation ipod mini. Once these ipod player s software has been updated, they can be plugged into the PowerSync Cart s dock connector and are ready for syncing. 8 You should assign an Administrator to prepare and maintain all of the hardware to be used with the PowerSync Cart. 9 Your Administrator must have a working knowledge of itunes prior to using the PowerSync Cart.
