CPR Construction Products Regulation CE Markings The CPR (Construction Products Regulation) has been around for over 15 years and the inclusion of communications cables, both Copper and Fibre came into force on the 1st of July 2016 and the period of coexistence (when non compliant product can still be sold) will come to an end on the 1st July 2017 and all products must be tested and the packaging appropriately CE marked. The flammability rating that we have become used to will be replaced by a range of EuroClasses from A F, with A being the most flame retardant and F as flammable. There are two main classes to be aware of Eca and Cca. The former is effectively equivalent to the existing IEC and does not require major work, therefore this will appear first. IEC is the closest to Cca There will also be a series of additional requirements for smoke emittance (s), flaming droplets (d) and acid gases (a), the UK for example will be (s1b, d2, a2) however across Europe the regulation is being enforced slightly differently in each country. What does it apply to? The CPR ONLY applies to the fixed infrastructure, therefore does not include any connecting hardware or patch leads. It will however cover any pre-terminated solution such as MTP Trunk Cables and long fanout assemblies etc. that are deemed to be fixed, but these will rely on the bulk cable certification the assembly has been constructed from. The other key point is it requires a Notified Body such as Delta Labs to approve the test results for up to Dca, however for Cca and above it also requires a factory inspection of production control. On approval they will provide a Classification Report that is used by Excel to produce the Declaration of Performance for each of the cables.
