Safety Information When using UniPRO Gbis, always take basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury to persons. These include the following: When connecting to the line, special care must be taken as high voltages may be present on the line and there may be a danger of electrocution. Avoid using the tester during an electrical storm - there is a remote risk of electric shock by lightning. Use only the mains electricity adaptor supplied with your UniPRO Gbis. Connector Safety The RJ-45 line connector is rated TNV3. The following connectors conform to EN60950 SELV safety status: RJ-45 Ethernet port USB port DC inlet port WARNING Do not connect any telecoms network to any of the tester ports except the RJ-45 line connector The RJ-45 Ethernet port is reserved for authorised service operations only and has no user function. UniPRO Gbis Iss 1

Power UniPRO Gbis can be powered either from its internal rechargeable battery or directly from power connected to the DC inlet. Battery Management For maximum life of the battery it is recommended to discharge it fully and then recharge it fully at least once a month. The battery is not externally accessible or user-serviceable. When it has reached the end of its life, contact your local IDEAL representative for service. Battery Recharging The batteries can be fully recharged in 3 hours with the tester switched ON or OFF. To recharge the batteries, connect the supplied power adaptor to the DC inlet. The Power LED next to the DC inlet lights green to show that power is connected. GB The Battery LED indicates as follows: Tester LED Indicates ON Off Battery is sufficiently charged for use ON or OFF Flashing Green Battery is not being charged ON or OFF Green Battery is being charged ON Red Battery level is too low for reliable operation Switching ON and OFF To switch the tester ON, press and hold the Power button until POWER IS ON is displayed, then release it. The HOME screen is then displayed and the tester is ready to be used for checking line conditions or adjusting settings. To switch the tester OFF, press and hold the Power button until POWER IS OFF is displayed, then release it. The currently stored setup is saved. If the tester does not switch OFF within 5 seconds, see Master Reset Iss 2-5- UniPRO Gbis

Master Reset In the unlikely event of a system lock-up which prevents the tester from being switched OFF, it may be necessary to perform a master reset. This will not delete any stored data. Remove the right hand rubber end cap Push a thin wire or pin (eg a paper clip) into the reset hole to press the internal reset switch. Remove the pin to allow the tester to switch OFF. Replace the end cap Power Saving If Power Save is selected in SYSTEM SETUP, the display brightness will be reduced after 3 minutes to save battery power, and the tester will switch itself OFF automatically after 10 minutes of no activity, unless power is connected to the DC inlet. To restore the display to full brightness, press any key. UniPRO Gbis Iss 1

GB Checking Line Conditions The HOME screen is displayed when the tester is switched ON: Whenever the HOME screen is displayed, UniPRO Gbis independently monitors each of the active line pairs (as selected in DSL SETUP) to check for the following conditions: Indication Short Circuit Break Voltage Present Voltage Excessive xdsl Activity SHDSL Activity Meaning Pair is short circuit Pair is open circuit Voltage is present on the pair Excessive voltage is present on the pair. DSL testing is not possible. Pair is connected to a DSL system other than SHDSL, eg ADSL or VDSL The pair is connected to another SHDSL device Display text and LEDs in red indicate a fault. The display and LEDs for any inactive pairs (as selected in DSL SETUP) are blank Iss 2-9- UniPRO Gbis

SHDSL Testing If no fault is found on a pair, and the DSL system has completed its initialisation, the tester automatically attempts to establish DSL synchronisation for that pair, even if faults are detected on one or more of the other pairs. Note that if a fault condition is detected on any pair, the fault continues to be displayed until the DSL sync status changes. The HOME screen displays a summary of the status of each of the active pairs: LED Indication Meaning Flashing Green Seeking: SHDSL Searching for a far end SHDSL device / Red Flashing Green / Red Training: SHDSL Attempting to synchronise with the far end device Green (Red)* Data Mode: Gbis Synchronisation has been established in G.SHDSL.bis mode Green (Red)* Data Mode: SHDSL Synchronisation has been established in SHDSL mode Off None The pair is has not been selected as active in DSL SETUP, or no results are available. *The LED may show green or red depending on whether the target performance has been achieved (see DSL Setup). UniPRO Gbis Iss 1

Below the Data Mode for each synchronised pair is displayed the trained Bit Rate. If the Bit Rate is less than the target rate (if set in DSL SETUP), the rate is displayed in red. The Function Keys associated with each synchronised pair, indicated by ++, provide access to detailed results for the pair: GB Result DSL Type Bit Rate Attenuation Margin Sig Quality Tx Power Uptime Drops Meaning G.SHDSLbis or SHDSL The trained Bit Rate in kbps The measured attenuation of the line pair in db The instantaneous noise margin in db The average noise margin over the last 10 secs The output power of the tester in db How long the DSL has been in synchronisation The number of times the DSL has dropped and automatically resynchronised during the current session Results in Green indicate that the set target has been achieved. Results in Red indicate that the set target has not been achieved. Results in Black indicate that no target has been set for that result.
