1 Technical Bulletin Date: 4/02/2018 Serial Number Effective: Q Product Line: Merlin Elite Pro Subject: Merlin Elite Pro Improvements This Software and Firmware updates Merlin Elite Pro with the latest feature and functional improvements in our PRO line of products. Coming new to this release is the Import Feature, Improved Voices, Group 2 Language Additions, stability improvements and bug fixes. Improvement #1: New Feature Import - We have added a new option to import files from an attached USB drive via the Library Sub Menu. This supports.jpg,.rtf,.txt,.pdf and.doc file types allowing you to copy pictures or OCR with your own files from your computer on your Merlin Elite Pro. Additionally the Download feature has been renamed Export but is functionally identical. Improvement #2: Language and TTS Improvements- We have made improvements to the TTS Voice annunciations and OCR accuracy especially for Asian languages. Improvement #3: New Feature Focus Lock - This feature allows the user to Enable and Disable our Auto Focus at will. When Focus Lock is on the user can identify a target at a certain viewing distance and then lock the focus at that target. Focus lock is intelligent and will refocus after a zoom operation and then lock again. To activate focus lock, simply press either the previous line button first then the next line button second or the opposite (press the next line button first then the previous line button). A message will be heard confirming that focus lock is on or off. Alternatively, focus lock can be selected or de-selected in the menu. Improvement #4: New Default Setting White Balance: Normal - Based on user feedback we have changed the Merlin Elite Pro White Balance setting default to Normal instead of Auto. This can be changed via the Product Settings Tab if you wish to change white balance to Auto, Warm or Cool. Improvement #5: More TTS Voice Speeds- We have added more levels with faster speeds for OCR read back. Improvement #6: OCR Magnifications Levels are larger- We have remapped the existing zoom levels to make the text appear bigger in Full Page Text and Single Line Text Modes. Improvement #7: Single Line Text Mode Central Highlight- The single line mode now centers the word highlight in the middle of the screen (Instead of moving left to right) and then simply shifts the text to avoid eye strain. 2 Note: This update requires you to utilize a USB flash drive (@ least 8GB), Merlin Elite Pro Dual Port Hub that was included with your purchase, internet capable computer and your Merlin Elite Pro control console. Step 1: Visit The version Update requires you to download five files: Application Update- Merlin Elite Pro-Application zip Camera Update- Merlin Elite Pro-Camera Firmware zip I/O Update- Merlin Elite Pro-I/O Firmware zip Front Panel Update- Merlin Elite Pro-FP Firmware zip Voice Files Update- Merlin Elite Pro-Voice Files zip Step 2: Connect your USB Flash drive to your computer and download and extract the zip file contents of the files to the USB Flash Drive: namely Installer, Camera Board, I/O, Front Panel and Voices. Safely remove the USB Drive from your computer and then connect it to one of the open ports on your Merlin Elite Pro Hub Pro along with the Merlin Elite pro Control Console. Step 3: Ensure that your Merlin Elite Pro is powered OFF and then power device ON. After you see the Merlin Elite Pro Logo on boot up and this screen disappears you should begin pumping the Mode Up button on your control console.

3 Step 4: When you hear a system Chime sound switch from a pumping motion to a continuous hold of the Mode Up button. (Essentially press it forward until device powers on fully). Step 5: If you were successful you should see the following screen shown below where you choose which update to perform (Application Update Screen). If you do not see this screen please power down the Merlin Elite Pro and try again. To Navigate through the menu Rotate Zoom Wheel Left or Right to navigate forward and back Press (Find/Enter) Key to initiate the upgrade process for the current selection marked in Red.

4 Step 6: For the Console Update Overview we need to perform (Continued) 4 updates for the Front Panel, Software Application, Camera Firmware and I/O Board which will require you to perform 4 updates in the suggested order Software, Camera, Front Panel and I/O. (Repeat Steps 3-5 for both Software and Camera FW s). A restart of the system occurs immediately after each component is upgraded and should not be interrupted while in process. 1. 5 Console Overview (Continued) Step 7: An animated gear should display with a success message when complete. Please note that the Software Application update step can take 5-10 minutes and should not be interrupted or restarted once it has been initiated.
