1 Tegrity Campus July 2009 Update Contents Key New Feature... 1 Highlights of the July 2009 Update... 1 Bug Fixes... 4 Key New Feature The July 2009 update contains some exciting new features for students, instructors, and administrators. Perhaps the most anticipated is the ability to add bookmarks to Tegrity recordings. Tegrity bookmarks allow for easy annotation of recordings with unclear or important indicators, comments, critiques, or feedback, by students and the instructor. The time-stamped bookmark appears both in the right place on the Smart Slider and in a separate list to the side of the playback for easy review. Students can place bookmarks in real-time, during the class, even before it is uploaded, or after class during playback. Users can make a bookmark public or private, mark and unmark it for review, or delete it. The instructor can view all student bookmarks anonymously to determine if there is topic that is unclear by many and may need further explanation. It is also easy to share bookmarks by , fostering collaboration. Highlights of the July 2009 Update Enhancements for Students Tegrity Bookmarks Students and instructors can now place bookmarks in recordings for later review. Bookmarks can be placed in real-time during class or while reviewing the recording after class. They can also be marked as reviewed, made public or private, and shared with other students or the instructor. Bookmarks can be created using an 1 of 6

2 iphone/itouch application, internet-enabled mobile phone application, or web browser application. In Class Tab A new In Class menu in the Tegrity web interface now provides easy access and help for creating bookmarks during class on an iphone, an Internet enabled mobile device, or a computer. Resume Playback Recording playback can now be resumed from the last position it was previously stopped or interrupted. Instructor Video Playback on Mac Recordings containing instructor video will now play back with the instructor video on Macs. Note: This feature is available for newly created recordings only. Enhanced Recent Updates Panel The Recent Updates panel in the My Tegrity and course pages now lists more recent items in a more readable format. New Settings Page A new settings page now provides easy access to Facebook association, Mobile access setup, podcasts, video podcasts, and RSS feeds. Quick Access Icons New icons on the top-right corner of the website now provide quick access to the Tegrity Facebook application, iphone app download instructions, Mobile Access setup, podcasts, video podcasts, and RSS feeds. Network Health Detection Tegrity now automatically detects the health of the Internet network connection during recording playback and alerts the user when the connection is not sufficient for an optimal viewing experience. Diagnostics Page A new diagnostics page is available for users experiencing playback issues. This page automatically runs diagnostics tools that troubleshoots the problem and provides guides to resolve it. Improved Quick Links The Quick Links panel has been cleaned up to include only most common links. 2 of 6

3 Enhancements for Instructors Change Recording Date Instructors and administrators can now change the recording date of class recordings. High Resolution Camera Support The Tegrity Recorder can now be configured to capture video source in high resolution on the PC. Copy/Move Dialog Updates The copy and move recording dialogs have been updated to provide better support for long course names. Share a Class Instructors can now share their recordings on the community forums. Instructor Video Capture in Mac Recorder Instructor video, in addition to instructional video, capture is now supported on Macs. Course IDs Displayed for Duplicate Course Names The course ID is now appended to the course name in the course list when two or more courses share the same name. Updated Custom Reports Course IDs are now appended to the Course name in Detailed Analysis reports. Enhancements for Institutions and IT Administrators Improved Video Podcast Quality The automatically created Video Podcast files are now much higher quality and provide an improved video replay experience. Multiple Administrators Multiple users can now be assigned to the administrator role using the User Builder. Configurable Maximum Size for Additional Content Administrators can now set a maximum size limit for additional content item uploads by instructors. Trusted Servers List for Single Sign On Access Administrators can now designate a list of trusted servers for Single Sign On access. More Secure Recording Policy Options Users are now required to login before they record when user authentication is enforced. Users have the option to save their login information when user login is not enforced. 3 of 6

4 Locked Settings User Interface Update Course settings that have been locked by the administrator now appear grayed out to instructors. Recorder Settings Dialog User Interface Update The Recorder settings dialog now includes an administrative section that requires an administrator login for advanced options such as multi-media room mode and extended device support settings. Extended Device Support for Multimedia Room Mode Any video device or VGA grabber attached to a recording PC can now be used as the video source when using the Multimedia Room mode (in addition to the Epiphan VGA2USB grabbers). Excel Dataset Import Courses, users and course enrollment data can now be imported directly from an Excel file. Note: This feature cannot be used in conjunction with IMS dataset imports. Blackboard 9 Support Tegrity now provides a Building Block for integration with Blackboard 9. Bug Fixes The following issue resolutions are included in this update. For Students Students are now able to download their own unpublished student recordings. The backward and forward buttons now have the correct mouse over indicator. For Instructors French and Spanish characters in the course title, class recording title, and user name are now supported. Recordings recorded on a Mac now appear as Available Soon while in queue to be uploaded. The Tegrity Recorder now recognizes that a PowerPoint slide show was launched while the Tegrity Recorder was paused. 4 of 6

5 The Tegrity Recorder now immediately displays a "Cannot start recording" message if a video device is not connected properly. An archived course, containing only non-published recordings, is now displayed to the instructor. In Windows 7, the background on the Tegrity Recorder toolbar now has the same color as the Windows Taskbar. Quick succession of pause/resume actions during a recording now no longer cause the Tegrity Recorder to crash. Snoozed uploads now resume automatically after a user logs back into the computer. Thumbnail index images are now correctly created for a first chapter of less than 3 seconds. The Mac Recorder now includes the "Upload Recording" option. For Institutions and IT Administrators Cut operations in the editor now physically erase the cut segments. Text in a notepad document on Windows Vista is now correctly captured for search. The PC-based Tegrity Recorder audio meter now shows the audio volume level for the selected, rather than the default, audio source. Text in Firefox 3 browser is now correctly captured for search. The recording index for a CD/DVD now displays properly in Safari. The computer list entries in the enforced recorder login administrative tool page are now verified. The scheduled live class tab now appears immediately after scheduling a live session. An error message is now shown when a duplicate user or course ID is entered in the User Builder or Course Builder. The get course listing link with both user ID and course ID parameters now works for archived courses. 5 of 6

6 A course created using Course Builder that contains recordings is now correctly displayed as [Archived] when it is deleted. Class recording URLs no longer contain the percent (%) character which is sometimes reencoded by other applications. The exported MS Excel file from Course Builder now correctly handles commas in the course name. Search results no longer contain recordings that failed to process. Users can now subscribe to podcasts, MP3 and RSS for archived private courses. CD/DVD now includes the institution's logo and color. The Title Bar of the Course Builder membership dialog is now displayed properly. Tegrity Recorder now functions properly when using an A/V converter, such as AverMedia or Belkin, and no live video source is connected to the converter. 6 of 6
