1 SUBJECT: Technical Service Bulletin GROUP DATE ENGINE ELECTRICAL JANUARY, 2018 NUMBER MODEL 18-EE-001 ALL Description: This bulletin provides the service information and procedure to update the Cadex Battery er firmware software to HMA2.10 level. IMPORTANT The J Cadex Rapid RC Battery er firmware software update is mandatory to ensure battery warranty claim approval. Refer to TSB 17-EE-003 for more detailed er use and warranty information. Features of HMA2.10 Software Update: Bolder and clearer printout contains a longer 14 alpha/number digit warranty code with both lower/upper case alpha digits for better differentiation. (Former warranty code was 11 digits.) NOTE: Warranty claim submission will not be case sensitive. WARRANTY WARNING screen for confirming correct entries reading from the battery label as required to ensure a proper warranty claim: NOTICE Entry of the wrong battery information may yield an improper result and may be subject to claim chargeback. Resistance High and RC measurement is revised and less sensitive to battery charging. Poor connection detection correction prompt screen helps prevent connection related error. %SOC (State of Charge) versus Voltage characteristic has been revised for Hyundai battery specifications. Extended RC range of 55 to 250 now allows for the Ioniq EV 55RC battery to be tested in Customer Used Veh mode. CCA and RC measurement are now possible in the revised % SOC (was % SOC). Good-Recharge result appears at 50-59% SOC in the Customer Used Veh test mode. NOTE: Good-Recharge result is a battery that has tested with Good RC, CCA and Resistance, but is a bit low on state of charge. At Charge & Retest result a minimum idle/charge time (engine idle or battery charger) is now displayed. This is the recommended charge time to then retest for a final battery health result. 3 SUBJECT: Service Procedure: NOTICE Your Dealer IT support may be able to assist with any computer related issues. Contact Cadex at or if any further assistance is needed after attempting the procedure. 1. Confirm the current Cadex er firmware software level at the power on splash screen: er displaying either HMA1.00 or HMA1.20 has the old firmware software. Continue with this service procedure to update the er firmware software. er displaying HMA2.10 already has the update and this procedure does not apply. 2. Go to At the Subscriptions page, enter in the following password: HMA2V10 3. This Hyundai J webpage will appear. TSB #: 18-EE-001 Page 3 of 10

4 SUBJECT: ` 4. Click the link J Hyundai PC Service Tool Software and select Save at the popup. NOTES: This will download the J-51807_Setup.exe file into the PC s Downloads folder as the default location. Any anti-virus PC protection warnings/blocks that prohibit the download will need to be disabled. 5. Click the link HMA Bootloader ver 3.00 and select Save at the popup. It will download the SWSPEHY200.sef file into the PC s Downloads folder. 6. Select HMA Main Firmware ver 2.10 link and select Save. It will download the SWSPEHY210.sef file into the PC s Downloads folder. Hardware Setup: Power up the J Battery er and connect it to its charger. NOTE: The software update cannot be done without the charger connected. Connect the J to the computer via the USB to Serial cable. Your computer should install the needed USB drivers. USB to Serial Cable Availability: o The USB to Serial Cable was included inside the J Battery er plastic carry case at original shipment. o Contact Cadex at should a replacement cable need to be ordered. 5 SUBJECT: Software Setup: 7. Run the J-51807_Setup.exe file from the PC Downloads folder by double clicking it. 8. The following J PC Service Tool shortcut should have installed on your computer desktop. Double click it to run the software. 9. From the J PC Service Tool software, click on Firmware. 10. The Firmware information of your unit will be displayed. NOTE: If it shows Unknown for values, then communication has not been established. 6 SUBJECT: ` Flashing in the Boot Loader: 11. Click on the Browse button. Select the Boot Loader file SWSPEL300.sef, from the Downloads folder and click Open. 12. Verify it shows Version: Loader ver. 3.00\L 13. Click on the Update button followed with the Yes button on the confirm screen. TSB #: 18-EE-001 Page 6 of 10

7 SUBJECT: 14. The Cadex er display will look like this while it is being flashed with the Boot Loader. 15. Once the Firmware is done flashing (approximately 2 minutes) the Boot Loader, the Cadex er will reboot and the following confirmation screen will appear. Select OK. On the next screen, confirm the new Boot Loader level is L3.00. TSB #: 18-EE-001 Page 7 of 10

8 SUBJECT: ` Flashing in the Main Firmware: 16. Select Browse. Select the second firmware file, SWSPEHY210.sef. Select Open. 17. Select Update followed by Yes to confirm. Cadex er Display will look like this during the main firmware flashing. TSB #: 18-EE-001 Page 8 of 10

9 SUBJECT: 18. When completed (approximately 5 minutes), the Cadex er will reboot and the following screens will show HMA2.10/L3.00 firmware update is complete. This will appear in the initial Cadex er start-up splash screen identifying the tester is at software version level HMA2.10: NOTICE Proceed to the next page to set Dealer Name and Address into the Cadex er that was lost during the firmware flash.
