1 1. Set up lab as you would a simple data center/campus design a. I have 2 data centers i. Data Center 1 1. IP address range: /16 with 2 subnets a. VLAN115: /24 b. VLAN120: /24 2. All 3 servers (which are really just L2 IOUs for now until I get actual test server ISOs from my SysAdmin) have vlan 115 and 120 to the Dist_Core switch 3. Dist_Core switch has a layer 3 OSPF connection ( /24 and default route to the ASA 4. The ASA has a default route to the PREM router ii. Data Center 2 1. Identical in make-up except for IP range a /16 i. VLAN115: /24 ii. VLAN120: /24 b. Both Dist_Core routers are peering OSPF with the each other c. The PREM routers are connected to a simulated internet that has 3 pharmacies (again, just L2 IOUs) with public IP addresses d. The windows 10 machine is just a scaled down P-to-V clone of my actual machine i. It is hosted in virtualbox ii. The vnic has an IP address of: iii. It is how I configure the KEMP loadmasters 2. After setup and making sure your ASA, prem, and dist_core switches can talk, it s time to download and import the virtual KEMP loadmaster 30-day free trial from the KEMP website: a. You must have a KEMP account which is easy to create b. After you have created your account and have logged in, you will select your choice of hypervisor and the country you are in and select Download

3 d. Once it finishes download, extract the files to reveal the.ova file e. Simply double-click the.ova file and choose to open with VirtualBox f. Most if not all of the specs will already be in place so just select import and let VirtualBox do its thing g. Once it is done importing, I go into the settings to change the name because, as you can see above, it is really long h. All of the settings and everything should be good to go so just right-click on it and select start to begin booting i. This will bring up a CLI in which you will log in with the default username/pw:

4 1. Username: bal 2. Password: 1fourall ii. After you log in it will bring up the KEMP shell and walk you through getting access to the internet in order to add the temporary license

5 i. If you are happy with the defaults (as shown above for my connection) you can select OK through the IP address, Default Gateway, and DNS j. It will then ask if you would like to finish the licensing by going to the IP address via your browser i. Select yes and minimize the CLI shell ii. I am using FireFox so you have to add the security exception to access the KEMP k. Once you are into the KEMP: i. First, you must read and agree to the EULA ii. Next, you select what license you are using

6 1. In our case, it is the first option: Trial (unrestricted) and either allow/don t allow the call home feature (not sure it matters either way) iii. This is where it gets a little weird> 1. I have never been able to get the default Online Licensing to work as it ALWAYS says my username/password is invalid even though I JUST logged in to the website with it so

7 2. If this also does NOT for you, click the drop-down box and select Offline Licensing 3. This will then give the ACCESS CODE you will use to get the license 4. Click on the Click here to obtain your license button which will take you back to the KEMP website to insert your information. It SHOULD allow you to insert your KEMP ID and password at this point

8 5. After you click Submit it will let you know whether or not the licensing process finished correctly (I ve never had one NOT finish correctly) 6. KEMP will then send you the license key via the that your KEMP account is associated with a. Sometimes this takes 3 minutes; sometimes it takes 3 hours. So patience, younglings.. b. In this case, mine came in about 45 seconds but that is not always the case 7. Once it arrives, go to your inbox and select the ENTIRE license key FROM BEGIN to END a. Very important b. It will look similar to:

9 8. Copy the entire key and paste it into the License box back on the KEMP GUI and select Apply License 9. You will get a License Warning letting you know that it will expire in 30 days from when it is activated (which is immediately) 10. Press ok and go to the next page to change the password 11. It will then have you log in with the username: bal and the newly created password l. You will then be taken to the Home page of the KEMP

10 m. At this point, you are ready to shut the KEMP down and import into GNS3 i. Pull up the CLI again close it out normally (Power off the machine) n. Pull up your GNS3 lab (which you will need to save in order to add a VirtualBox V) and go to: i. Edit>Prefereces>VirtualBox VMs>New> and select 1. Run the VirtualBox VM on your local computer 2. Select your KEMP LoadMaster from the VM list dropdown and DO NOT select Use as a linked base VM (experimental) * If you can get it to work please share but I have not been able to** 3. Select Finish 4. Highlight the LoadMaster VM and select Edit down at the bottom to bring up the configuration box: 5. My configs can be seen below: (most will be default)

12 o. Select Apply and OK to exit Preferences 3. Go ahead and drag-and-drop your KEMP into your lab and connect its links to a switch and/or router a. Eth0 is what you will use to get back into the KEMP from your lab setup so make sure it is connected to a switch that will allow your PC to contact it b. Right-click the KEMP and select Start

13 4. You will then need to go back and bring up the KEMP CLI again to change the Network Configs a. Since we re in headless mode, go to VirtualBox, right-click the KEMP and select show to bring up the CLI (this should be the last time you need to use the CLI) b. Input username: bal and your password c. This will bring you to the Loadmaster Configuration page d. Use your keyboard to go down to Basic Setup and press Enter e. Next, select Network Configuration and press OK

14 f. Using the numbers above your letters (NOT your numeric Key-pad which KEMP hates for some reason), change the IP address, default gateway, and DNS to suit your lab setup

15 g. After the appropriate changes are made, you can RETURN TO PREVIOUS MENU (very important to do so) all the way back to the home and go down to the last option Exit Configuration and select OK i. It will ask you if you want to apply the changes and you will of course say Yes h. Click the X and select Continue running in the background to get the CLI out of the way i. If all of your routing and switching configs are setup properly (as I m sure they are), you should be able to ping the default gateway and wherever else your network allows j. Now go back to your browser on your virtual PC and go to k. Depending on the browser you are using, you may have to add the exception for this KEMP to proceed l. Input username: bal and your password and press enter to get into the KEMP home page!!
