Overview Panasonic SD memory card for B-to-B market is described. In this white paper, we will touch on the features for choosing the product. From view point of the operating temperature range, and use case of the application, you can choose an appropriate product out of 35 products. 2 1. Three Grade Panasonic SD memory card offers industrial temperature (-40C to +85C) ranges as well as standard SD specification temperature (-25C to +85C) range. We have three types of grade in Panasonic SD memory card for B-to-B field, i.e. industrial grade, consumer plus grade, and consumer grade. The industrial grade supports industrial temperature range, and the consumer plus grade and consumer grade support the SD specification temperature range. In each grade, you can also chose an SD memory card from device type of NAND flash memory. Panasonic can offer a suitable product among our product series for requirements of your various application. In industrial grade products, we have three series of the standard SD memory card --- FX series, P series, and GD series ; and two series of the microsd memory card --- SC series and KC series. In consumer plus grade products, there are three series of the standard SD memory card --- QE series, ME series, and UE series ; and also three series of microsd memory card --- PE series, LE series, and TE series. Finally in consumer grade products, there are also the standard SD and micrsd memory cards --- MF series and LF series respectively. A brief description of features of Panasonic SD memory card will be explained bellow: 2. Temperature Range The first selection point is its temperature range. The industrial grade SD/microSD card supports industrial operating temperature range of -40C to +85C. On the other hand, the consumer plus grade and consumer grade SD/microSD card support operating temperature range of -25C to +85C which is specified in the SD specification. NAND device type The second selection point is what is characteristic of your application such as read intensive application, write intensive application, or general application. Panasonic can provide four options from the device type of used NAND flash memory, i.e. SLC (single level cell), MLC (multi-level cell), TLC (triple level cell), and SLC-LITE which utilize MLC NAND flash memory and is controlled equivalently as SLC to store binary information per cell. Figure 3 shows a product positioning of our product grade and type of NAND flash memory with regard to endurance of the SD card. The endurance or write/erase count depend on the access pattern of the application, especially a driver software and using file system. Panasonic can also provide a service for estimating a life time of the SD card under the condition of your actual use case. 5 4. Product Selection The line-ups of Panasonic SD memory card for B-to-B industry are shown in Table 1. These are all registered as a standard part number, and you can ask for distributors. You can choose the card from temperature range, NAND flash memory type, and its capacity. As for the product without hatching, please contact with sales. Our hardware and firmware have been tested and qualified by our experienced design and qualification team as one of the member of founder of SD specifications, and well proved in a lot of mission-critical applications. The controllers are specifically designed, fabricated and tested to ensure a reliable product of the SD memory card in your applications. The SD controllers provide many features such as built-in error correction, data randomizer, bad block management, effective wear leveling algorithms, and data recovery algorithms. For industrial grade SD/microSD card, the controller equips a sophisticated static wear leveling and bad block management algorithm, automatic data refresh function for read intensive applications, and power failure robustness mode algorithm which includes secure data write and data recovery algorithm against power loss issue Panasonic Page 5

BOM control policy In order to keep design intent and quality of your application, Panasonic SD memory card strictly hew to control BOM (bill of materials) of the SD memory card. Process technology node of NAND flash memory has been shrunk every couple of years. As the benefits of the shrunk process, we enjoy larger memory capacity and lower bit cost. However, reliability of NAND flash memory device becomes deteriorate and decrease endurance cycle. For this reason, in case of the NAND flash memory generation change, we shall inform PCN (product change notification) prior to the change, and get your approval. c. Screening In order to keep a reliability level of the SD memory card, we are working out an additional screening test for the SD memory card in the Japan fab prior to shipment. We test 100% user area of the SD memory card for each. This screening test is effective in eliminating an initial failure card and field failure card as well. And also it is effective to detect a spike failure of the card lot, and stabilize the quality level of shipment of the card Panasonic Page 6

7 6. Conclusion Panasonic SD memory card has three grade series which cover various requirements of customers. Especially, industrial temperature range (-40 to +85 ) is covered by the industrial SD line-ups. And also, SLC and SLC-Lite line-ups offer robustness of the card. Panasonic SD memory card equips its own designed controller and provide the functionality of enhancing reliability. Panasonic SD memory card keeps the quality level of the card by upholding the BOM control policy and executing the screening of the card. Panasonic SD memory card can respond to the expectations of many customers.
