We appreciate your business and hope to work with you again in the future. This guide is designed to bring you through the step of installing your replacement shell. Things you will need 1) GameBoy Advance SP replacement shell 2) Small Philips head screw driver 3) Small flat head screw driver 4) Tri-wing screw driver 5) Can of compressed air 6) Clean work space where small screws will not get lost 7) About 15 minutes of free time

2 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 2 of 12 Step One Before starting it is important to note that you need to use the correct size Philips head screw driver at all times. The screws are very cheaply made and love to strip. If the screws are stripped it is very hard to get them out without damaging the internal components of the system itself. The same is true for the triwing security screws. Please flip your GameBoy Advance SP over and locate the Philips head screw holding down the battery compartment in picture one below and unscrew it Philips head screw holding down battery compartment lid Picture One: Battery cover screw Once the battery compartment is opened and removed please proceed to step two.

3 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 3 of 12 Step Two Once the battery lid is removed please remove the battery. There is a lip on the battery that allows it to be lifted upwards as seen in picture two below. A flat head screw driver works best to lift up the lip. 4 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 4 of 12 Step Three Once the battery is removed please locate the six triwing screws that are holding the two halves of the bottom part of the GameBoy Advance SP together as seen in picture three below and unscrew them. Six Tri-Wing Screws Picture Three: Six tri-wing screws Once the six triwing screws are removed please separate the two halves of the bottom part of the GameBoy Advance SP and proceed to step four.

5 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 5 of 12 Step Four: Once the two halves of the bottom part of the GameBoy Advance SP are separated your system should look like picture four below. Please locate the three Philips head screws as seen in picture four below and unscrew them. Philips head screws Picture Four: Philips head screws holding down the mother board Once the three Philips head screws are removed please remove the mother board from the top half of the bottom part of the GameBoy Advance SP system. There is a ribbon cable connected to the top side of the mother board so please be careful to not yank it out when separating the mother board form the top half of the bottom part of the GameBoy Advance SP shell. Please proceed to step five when you are ready to disconnect this ribbon cable.

6 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 6 of 12 Step Five: As seen in picture five below the ribbon cable inserts into a port on the mother board. On the side of this port are black prongs that lock the ribbon cable in place. In order to release the ribbon cable you have to slide these black prongs downwards, however great care is needed at this stage. The black prongs can easily be broken and once broken the mother board must be replaced. We recommend that you use a small flat head screw driver to gently push the black prongs downwards. Push black prongs down gently. They are easy to break off. Picture Five: LCD ribbon cable disconnection Once the ribbon cable is disconnected please proceed to step six.

7 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 7 of 12 Step Six Now that the ribbon cable is removed please remove the mother board in it s entirely. All that should be left is the speaker and some random buttons and rubber pads. You will need the rubber pads and speaker, although your replacement shell includes replacement buttons. We recommend that you take the time to clean the rubber pads off with soap and water. Over the years junk and grime has accumulated on the rubber pads, which interferes with their normal operation. Cleaning off this dirt can increase their performance. If your pads are worn out however we do sell replacements on our website. Next you need to locate the Philips head screw seen in picture six below and unscrew it. Picture Six: The hidden screw Once the screw is removed please proceed to step seven.

8 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 8 of 12 Step Seven Now that we are down with the bottom half it is time to focus on the top half of the GameBoy Advance SP. Please locate the five rubber plugs that are hiding the five triwing screws that hold together the two halves of the top part of the GameBoy Advance SP as seen in picture seven below. We recommend using a small flat head screw driver. Rubber pads Picture Seven: Rubber pads hiding the tri-wing screws Once the rubber pads are removed please proceed to step eight.

9 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 9 of 12 Step Eight Now that the rubber pads have been removed please locate the five triwing screws that are holding together the two halves of the top part of the GameBoy Advance SP as seen in picture eight below and unscrew them. Triwing screws Picture Eight: Five triwing screws Once the five triwing screws are removed please separate the two halves of the top portion of the GameBoy Advance SP and proceed to step nine.

10 GameBoy Advance SP Replacement Shell Installation Guide Page 10 of 12 Step Nine Now that the two halves of the top portion of the GameBoy Advance SP are separated your system should look like picture nine below. It is very important at this step to reference how the ribbon cable is coiled through the opening into the bottom half of the GameBoy Advance SP. If you don t coil the ribbon cable as seen in picture nine below the LCD screen will not fit in the replacement shell correctly. Lastly look at how the screen protector is attached to the LCD screen itself. Most importantly see how it is oriented on the screen. You need to orient the replacement screen protector the same way for everything to look right. This is discussed in more detail below. Picture Nine: Proper coiling of the LCD screen Now that you have dissembled your old system it is time to start the reassembly process. Firstly start by reassembling the top portion. Firstly thoroughly clean off the LCD screen with duster spray. Any specks of dust will by highly noticeable so please give it good going over with the duster spray. Next insert the screen protector onto the LCD as it was oriented with the original you just took off. The LCD/screen protector unit should slip right into the casing. Next reassemble the system making sure that the LCD screen cable is coiled as seen in picture nine above.

If by chance after you complete your repair something isn t working properly please see our troubleshooting section at the end of this guide.

Please choose the problem that is closest to the one you are experiencing: 1) My screen doesn t work a. Did you remember to connect the ribbon cable to the mother board? b. Did you lock the ribbon cable in place by snapping down the two black prongs on either side? 2) My buttons don t work a. If your buttons didn t work before we recommend replacing the rubber pads underneath the buttons them with brand new replacements from our website. b. If after the repair a button stopped working the most likely reason is rubber part underneath the button is not properly aligned. Go back and realign the rubber pad underneath the button and try again. 3) There is dust underneath my screen protector a. Did you remember to clean the screen with dusting spray?
