4 Frequently Asked Questions FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Where do the new MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF fit into the Ricoh Family Group MFP product line? A. The MP 501SPF is the replacement to Ricoh's SP 5200 Series family of multifunction products launched in late The MP 601SPF is considered a net new product, pushing Ricoh into the upper half of the Segment 4 B&W A4 MFP market for the first time. In addition to improving overall speed and performance, these new mid-volume A4 models also provide a multitude of controller, imaging component, and control panel improvements over their predecessors to increase your competitiveness. Q. What are the recommended and maximum volumes for these machines? A. The 52-ppm MP 501SPF is targeted for an average volume of 5,000 pages per month. The faster 62-ppm MP 601SPF has a higher average volume target of 6,500 prints per month. Both MFPs have a maximum monthly volume of up to 16,600 pages. The 52-ppm MP 501SPF has a maximum duty cycle of up to 250,000 prints per month. The 62-ppm MP 501SPF has a higher duty cycle of up to 275,000 prints per month to meet the demands of peak period use. Q. Why are the CPPs so low on these machines? A. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF use an engine with a 500,000-page yield OPC drum, development unit, and fuser unit assembly. These are considered "lifetime consumables" for most accounts running less than 8,250 pages per month. That means the only supplies cost to the customer is toner, paper, and electricity for their first 500,000 prints. Q. What is the CPU speed? Can memory be expanded? A. Both units employ a new Intel Atom Processor Bay 1.46 GHz. The controller ships with 2 GB RAM and a 320 GB hard disk drive as the standard and maximum memory configuration. Q. How are the MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF "solution ready"? A. In addition to providing the 10.1" Smart Operation Panel and 320 GB hard disk as standard equipment, Ricoh also includes Java and the Smart Software Development Kit (SDK) for customized application development. This allows MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF customers to create and install customized workflows in the standard configuration the same solutions available for use with Ricoh Family Group A3 systems; no other options or upgrades are required. In addition, the MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF include a 60-day free trial to Ricoh's Integrated Cloud Management (ICE) system. Q. How are SDK apps or other utilities installed on the MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF? A. Expanded functions such as XPS Direct Print, OCR Scanning or the Fax Connection Unit options are installed using the SD Card slots on the controller's rear interface panel. The SD Card slot on the MFP's 10.1" Smart Operation Panel is for scanning to and printing from portable media, not for installing expanded functions on the controller. 1

5 MP 501SPF & MP 601SPF B&W MFPs Q. What is Near Field Communication (NFC) technology? A. NFC is a set of standards for smartphones, tablets and MFPs to establish radio communication with each other. Communication is initiated by touching the devices together or simply bringing them into close proximity; usually no more than a few inches. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF support two kinds of capabilities employing NFC technology: 1) Users of smartphones and tablets with builtin NFC capability can download the RICOH Smart Device Connector App to enable mobile device printing and control the MFP from personal devices. Users can connect via NFC tag, Bluetooth, or QR code. 2) An optional NFC Card Reader can be connected to the Smart Operation Panel for fast basic authentication using ID cards embedded with NFC tags. Q. Where can my customers download the RICOH Smart Device Connector App? A. Point your customers to the Google Play and itunes web portals to download the app for NFC connectivity to smartphones and tablets. Q. Is AirPrint supported? A. Yes. Q. Do the MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF support the USB 2.0 Type B Device Server (second NIC) option? A. Yes. Customers can connect these devices to a second network environment by installing the USB 2.0 Type B Device Server Type M19 in the units' optional interface board slot. Q. What are the standard and optional paper capacities? Are paper supply and cabinet options interchangeable? A. Each MFP is equipped with a 500-sheet Tray and a 100-sheet Bypass. Each main unit can be configured with up to four (4) additional 500- sheet Paper Feed Units for a maximum paper capacity of 2,600 sheets. The PFUs and cabinets are interchangeable between all models in this family. The maximum paper size for all paper sources on both models is 8.5" x 14". Q. Do these devices support printing onto envelopes? A. Yes. Recommended type envelopes can be fed from the Bypass or Optional Paper Feed Unit(s) provided the correct document size and paper type settings are selected. The standard Paper Tray does not support envelopes because of the media path / paper turn from this tray. Another improvement with regard to envelope printing is that that there is no lever to reposition the fuser unit as with the previous SP 5200 Series printers. Q. What is the maximum print resolution? A. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF are laser devices and print pages at true 600 x 600 dpi, and enhanced 1200 x 1200 dpi at full rated engine speeds. Q. Is PostScript printing genuine Adobe or PS emulation? A. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF are equipped with genuine Adobe PostScript 3 as a standard PDL. 2

6 Frequently Asked Questions Q. Is finishing supported by these devices? A. No. That is one of the tradeoffs for a compact footprint and profile. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF offer a number of improvements, but inline stapling, which was found on the SP 5210SR, is not supported. Q. What is the toner yield for the MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF? Is starter toner included? A. The print cartridge yields 25,000 impressions at 5% image coverage. Each machine ships with one starter print cartridge with a yield of 10,000 pages. A replacement Waste Toner Bottle is included with each toner cartridge (and is included in the calculated CPP factor). Both items should be replaced at the same time. Q. Do these machines qualify for any environmental certifications? A. Yes. The MP 501SPF and MP 601SPF are Energy Star and EPEAT Silver certified due to their standard automatic duplexing, low power consumption during Sleep, low TEC values, and the products' complete lifecycle environmental impact from design to recycling, Q.
