A SHRINKING WORLD - creating a growing European Union Since the European Union and Schengen agreement, non existing borders influence the economical situation of the EU in a whole new way.

Eastern European countries such as Hungary and the Czech Republic have taken this opportunity to develop themselves as popular manufacturing countries.

Due to low labour costs, the increase of foreign investments and the development of manufacturing networks the Eastern European countries have become an interesting destination for OEM s.

The location is their advantage, close to the R&D and end user markets offering potential savings in freight costs, inventory and reducing lead times compared to China.

With the recent addition of Bulgaria and Romania the European Union now counts 27 members states. Eastern European countries such as Hungary and the Czech Republic have taken this opportunity to develop themselves as popular manufacturing countries. With the increasing competition leading to high price pressure, low cost manufacturing is necessary to remain competitive on the market. Due to low labour costs, the increase of foreign investments and the development of manufacturing networks the Eastern European countries have become an interesting destination for OEM s. Even though manufacturing outsourcing continues to be migrating East, East European countries offer an important advantage compared to increasingly popular manufacturing countries such as China. The location is their advantage, close to the R&D and end user markets offering potential savings in freight costs, inventory and reducing lead times compared to China. Additional benefits can be found in the cooperation with East European countries, culture and language skills enable a higher grade of flexibility. While recent news on product recalls from China high light the importance of quality control. With the ever lasting price pressure the need to discover new potential manufacturing areas remains. As millions of tourists travel the world for their perfect holiday destination there will be one bound to discover the next potential manufacturing location. 2 FUJITSU INTRODUCES A NEW TOUCH PANEL - with the practical application for a conductive polymer! Hoofddorp June 12, 2007 Fujitsu Components Europe, B. V. announces a new generation of resistive touch panels, based on an organic conductive polymer. It is the first practical application for a conductive plastic. The new conductive polymer panel offers 10 times the durability of a conventional resistive touch panel. Overview Film on glass resistive touch panels, found on applications such as PDA s, cash registers, and kiosks are traditionally made with a hard ceramic ITO (Indium, Tin Oxide) film. The life expectancy of this sort of panel is limited by the weakness of the ITO layer. Fujitsu s new generation of touch panel replaces the ITO layer with an organic conductive polymer. Design concept This polymer is more flexible and therefore provides a more durable touch surface that extends the operational life of the touch panel, especially in repeated touch applications such as PDA s, mobile phones, tablet PC s or pen based devices, by supporting 10 times more finger input and 5 times more pen sliding. The polymer based panel will be compatible with the standard 4-wire resistive panel interface, making it easier for designers to upgrade their existing solutions without having to design a new specific interface. Product Features This new technology is introduced on two types of panels, the film/ glass wire panel and the shock resistant Film./Film/ plastic panel. Initially, the panels will be available in selected sizes and then expanded to cover all standard product sizes. Shortening of the production cycles can be established by combining or removing activities. Fujitsu offers THE solution in relays, FTR-K1 tab terminal. The FTR-K1.250 tab terminal combines the Fujitsu FTR-K1 relay and tab terminals for easy power load connection. Board space and handling of separate tab terminals will be reduced by replacing a relay and separate tab terminals by the FTR-K1 tab terminal. The Fujitsu FTR-K1 tab terminal enables time and cost efficiency. Fujitsu s FTR-K1T measures just 12.7(W)x40.8(L)x16.0(H) mm and offers high insulation in a small package with an insulation distance between coil and contact of 10mm, 5kVAC Dielectric strength and a surge strength of 10kV. The FTR-K1T is available with horizontal or vertical tab terminals and features a nominal coil power consumption of 400mW and a switching voltage of maximum 440VAC. Naturally the FTR-K1T complies with the latest safety standards such as UL, CSA, Semko, VDE including the GWIT 775 C and GWFI 850 C to meet IEC requirements.
