5 The Challenge The Instrument Cluster is the main human interface device for the car status is required to enhance the driving experience, offering a variety of driver-information applications (such as rear view parking camera, GPS navigation, real-time traffic and weather) Traditional clusters, with mechanical gages, little data display and lights are evolving into digital instrument clusters
6 Magneti Marelli Target Develop a reconfigurable instrument dashboard prototype using a display TFT which completely replaces traditional cluster
7 Digital Cluster Advantages Added features of a digital instrument cluster: Displayed information can be changed according to the drive mode Driver distraction is reduced by displaying only the information that the driver needs in that specific situation Mechanical constraints are overtaken: needles can be semitransparent, scales not linear Different and more information (PWT, under board, video cameras, safety, telematics, ecodriving, ) can be integrated into a single system Display is freely customizable by the driver altering the color, wallpaper, or gauge layout
