6 Setup Procedures STEP Preparation An installation space and network environment must be prepared in advance. Prepare the following manuals: Documentation CD Related manuals, such as manuals for the server or the networking equipment that is used Installation Space Installation space Check that the installation area meets the space requirements of the rack in which the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system is to be installed. Environmental considerations for installation Check if the installation area for the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system meets the environmental conditions and installation environment conditions. -Site Planning- "2.1 Installation Specifications" -Site Planning- "2.4 Installation Environment" Power outlets Check the type and the number of power outlets/sockets that are required to install the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. -Site Planning- "2.5 Outlet/Socket Specifications" Network Environment Completing and attaching the Network Settings label Write down the following information on the Network Settings label and attach it to the controller enclosure. 7 STEP Installation in a Rack The rack rail needs to be attached to the rack and the controller enclosure or the drive enclosure needs to be installed. -Installation- "Chapter 3 Rack Installation" IMPORTANT A drive enclosure must be installed above a controller enclosure. The center of gravity must be taken into consideration to prevent a rack from toppling over. The controller enclosure and the drive enclosure should generally be installed from bottom to top to lower the center of gravity and to ensure the safe use of racks. 1. Adjust the rack rail size to fit the rack. (Rear rack pillars) Loosen the screws, and adjust the rack rails to the depth of the rack. [Left] Rack rail (for left side) "L" is stamped on the inner side of the left rack rail. (Front rack pillars) [Right] Rack rail (for right side) "R" is stamped on the inner side of the right rack rail. 2. Attach the rack rails to the rack. The size of the controller enclosure and the drive enclosure is 2U. Insert the M5 screws in the 1st and 3rd holes on the front and rear rack pillars above the base lines to fasten the rack rails. IMPORTANT Base line Make sure to install or remove the controller enclosure or the drive enclosure to or from a rack with two or more people. 7

8 4. Fasten the controller enclosure or the drive enclosure in the rack. 2.5" Type (1) Use the thumb screw to fasten the front right of the controller enclosure to the rack pillars. (Rear rack pillars) Thumb screw (2) Attach the flange cover to the front left of the controller enclosure and use the thumb screw to fasten it to the rack pillars. IMPORTANT Do not touch the power switch ( ) when attaching the flange cover. (Rear rack pillars) Thumb screw 3.5" Type /3.5" Type Drive (1) Use the thumb screws at the front of the controller enclosure or the drive enclosure to fasten it to the rack. (Rear rack pillars) Thumb screw (2) Attach the front cover. IMPORTANT Do not touch the power switch ( ) when attaching the flange cover. 8

9 STEP Cable Connection Various cables need to be connected to the rear of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. Point IMPORTANT To help with cable management and prevent incorrect connection, attach labels to the cables and make a note of connection origins and destinations. This step describes dual controller type as an example. Note that there is only controller 0 (CM#0) for single controller type. The cables should never be bent, twisted or pulled. LAN Cable (For Operation Management) Connect a LAN cable (for operation management) to each MNT port. Cable Rear view (CM#0) (CM#1) The MNT port is on the right side. -Installation- "4.1 LAN Cable Connection (For Operation Management)" Host Interface Cable Connect a host interface cable to each of these ports. 10 MiniSAS Cables When the drive enclosure is installed, connect the DI (OUT) port of the controller enclosure to the DI (IN) port of the drive enclosure with the minisas cable. 11 STEP Basic Setup Use ETERNUS Web GUI to perform a basic setup of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. ETERNUS DX Disk Storage System and PC Terminal Connection Connect a PC terminal to the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. Connect the PC terminal to the MNT port of 0 (CM#0) on the controller enclosure directly with the LAN cable (for operation management). LAN port PC terminal LAN cable MNT port of 0 (CM#0) IMPORTANT When the LAN cable for the MNT port of 0 (CM#0) is connected to a network device, connect the cable to a PC terminal. Remove the LAN cable that is connected to the MNT port of 1 (CM#1). -Installation- "5.1.1 ETERNUS DX Disk Storage System and PC Terminal Connection" Powering On Turn on the PC terminal and the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. IMPORTANT When turning on the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system for the first time, volume formatting operation, which is set as factory default, may be performed. However, the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system setting operation can be continued. Drive Power switch -Installation- "5.1.2 Powering On" ETERNUS Web GUI Startup 1. Open the Web browser on the PC terminal. 2. Enter either of the following URLs in the address bar of the Web browser. The logon screen for ETERNUS Web GUI appears. 3. Enter the Username and Password. User name: root Password: root (Default) After logging on, the Storage System Status screen of ETERNUS Web GUI appears. -Installation- "5.1.3 Start up ETERNUS Web GUI" 11

12 Initial Setup Perform the settings that are required before operation of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system on the [Initial Setup] screen. The [Initial Setup] screen appears by clicking the [Initial Setup] menu on the [Easy Setup] tab. Perform the following settings according to the wizard screen: Set Date and Time Set Storage System Name Change Password Set FC / iscsi / SAS Port Parameters Setup Network Environment After the settings are complete, close the Web browser and then remove the LAN cable (for operation management) from the PC terminal. Connect LAN cables (for operation management) to the customer network from the MNT ports on both controller 0 and controller 1. Then start the web browser from the PC terminal that is connected to the network and log on to ETERNUS Web GUI again with the IP address that is set in "Set Network Environment". -Installation- "5.1.4 Initial Setup" Configuration Wizard Perform the necessary settings to operate the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system using the Configuration Wizard. The [Configuration Wizard] screen appears by clicking the [Configuration Wizard] button on the [Easy Setup] tab. Perform the following settings according to the wizard screen: Create RAID Group Create Volume Define Host Configure Affinity Group Define LUN Mapping -Installation- "5.1.5 Configuration Wizard" Point Default RAID groups, volumes and LUN mappings are preset in the factory. Refer to "ETERNUS Web GUI User's Guide" if the preset values are to be changed. Assign Hot Spare Register hot spares in case regular disks fail. The [Assign Hot Spare] screen appears by clicking [Assign Hot Spare] under the [RAID Group Management] menu on the [Volume Settings] tab. -Installation- "5.1.6 Assign Hot Spare" Point Check the factory settings and register a hot spare as required. 12

13 STEP Monitoring Setup Perform the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system monitoring setup if required. Notification of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system problems as they occur is possible if the event notification method and level have been set. If remote support is required, the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system needs to be set to notify the remote support center of failures. Point Remote support allows prompt detection and resolution of trouble. -Installation- "5.2 ETERNUS DX Disk Storage System Monitoring Setup" STEP Server Connection Perform the settings required to connect to the server and install the required drivers. Perform the settings required for network devices connecting the server and the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system. After the server connection setup, confirm that the volumes in the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system can be recognized by the server. All necessary settings are complete, and the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system is now ready for normal operation. -Installation- "5.3 Server Connection Setup" -Server Connection- Operation and Maintenance Status check The status of the ETERNUS DX Disk storage system should be regularly monitored by checking the LEDs and using ETERNUS Web GUI. Data backup Important data should be regularly backed up to a tape drive or similar device as a precaution against system failures. Maintenance support period The standard maintenance support period for ETERNUS DX Disk storage system is five years from the date of purchase, or is defined in your service level agreement (SLA). Contact your sales representative for details if you prefer to extend the period. -Operation- "4.2 Monitoring ETERNUS DX Disk Storage System Status" -Operation- "6.1 Periodic Backup" -Operation- "6.4 Maintenance Service" 13
