4 Mobile Applications for buses, trams and trains Passengers properly informed 4 Visualisation of passenger information Passengers using public transport today are very spontaneous and are considered smart road users. They want to be constantly informed throughout their journey. At bus stops the passenger would like to see quickly and clearly their chosen means of transport based on route numbers, symbols or destination information. Inside the vehicles, passengers expect information about the route, means of transport, timely information to the next stop and, where appropriate, information on connections. Also additional information such as tourism, attractions, weather, or relevant promotional information can be useful to passengers. MOBILE SOLUTIONS FROM A SINGLE SOURCE To meet the expectations of passengers, we support our customers as a competent partner, with our solutions for on-board buses, trams and trains offered by PTS. The external displays on buses and trains provide passengers with clear route and destination information before they board. Our high resolution displays can visualise graphics and symbols, and produce text to match a specific typeface. With simple control equipment, our display systems can be very easily controlled. Our flexible content management regulates the display content for these applications. In the interior of vehicles, we offer our clients solutions, such as dynamic route map displays, next stop display or video-capable systems, which can inform passengers during their journey.

5 Innovative Information Technology Depending on the application and requirement, we can offer our customers a range of different display technologies. LCD The LCD display technology for the exterior of a bus, tram or train has been specifically developed and optimised for these applications. They are characterised by very good readability in all lighting conditions. They are very energy efficient and flexible for the display of high resolution information. For internal applications, LCD is a very proven display technology. LED With this display technology, simple information, such as route numbers and destinations can be displayed. They are suitable for both the exterior and interior of vehicles. Special-size TFT Special-size TFTs can be specially designed for applications in the interior of vehicles, where standard TFTs cannot be used due to space constraints in the height or width. Any information can be presented on these displays, including full colour graphics and videos for route information, advertising, news ticker etc. and even all at the same time on different parts of the screen area.. Bi-stable ChLCD This technology uses power only when the message on the display is being updated and has virtually no energy consumption in standby mode. ChLCD is mainly used on the outside of train carriages for identification. To show, for example a complete route, location labels, reservations, carriage facilities etc. 5

7 Everything from one source... On-board computer Our systems are adaptable to all on-board computers. Using an IBIS or a LAN connection, our components can be integrated into various systems and thus control the displays in the vehicle. Master Controller PTMC1 The Master Controller provides the central control of the destination displays and through various interfaces, such as IBIS, RS485, it is adaptable to different systems. Via its USB interface, control software and system configuration data can be loaded in seconds into its memory. The Master Controller transmits the data, over a M4 bus, to the displays connected to it, with the messages to be displayed, such as route information and pictograms. PaCIM ITCS mobile Client Instead of on-board computers, our PaCIM (Passenger and Customer Information Management) ITCS can transmit real-time data using a mobile client, via Smartphone or Tablet to information systems on the vehicle. The vehicle tracking allows travel time predictions and deviations from timetables can be timely forwarded to stationary displays and arrival systems. PTS-Media-Controller EC2 All display devices can be controlled via the PTS media controller - the central unit in the vehicle. Data is received via GPRS/WIFI and maintained and distributed to the individual displays in the vehicle. The media controller has an open interface and can therefore be integrated into existing on-board systems. Using the Windows interface, the controller is simple to use. PTS Controller for External Displays Using the PTS control unit, destination, route and/or message numbers are selected to be presented on the external displays. The data for the external displays is uploaded via a USB memory stick and then stored on the vehicle to be available for selection. 7

8 PTS Destination Display LCD Excellent readability under all weather conditions and an individual representation of information - are features of the LCD destination displays from BMG MIS. With the high-resolution displays, transport operators have the ability to present graphics, icons and logos on their vehicles and to give a trade mark to their routes. LCD displays are very energy efficient and are characterised by a long life of 200,000 hours (backlighting 100,000 hours), they are virtually maintenance free and a reliable display technology. With different resolutions, standard information or additional information can be displayed as required. The 52 pixel high resolution LCD allows the display of, for example, Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Indian, Greek fonts and characters. All destination text, line numbers, graphics and fonts are editable with our PIT editor. 10 PTS Destination Display LED With our LED display systems, we offer our customers a standard product for the display of route numbers and simple destination text. With our own design of display and the use of high quality components, we have been careful here to make an energy efficient product. A brightness sensor automatically adjusts the LED indicator to suit the ambient light and weather conditions and guarantees easy readability. This display system is capable of scrolling text and thus provides a great scope. In addition, it is compatible with all interfaces and can be controlled using different systems. Using the PIT editor, text and graphics can be customised in the same way as for LCD technology. The LED indicators are a good and cost-effective solution for the representation of simple information. 12 PTS Side of train display - ChLCD With these high resolution displays from BMG MIS, the whole route of the train can be displayed on the outside of the vehicle. Specifically for rail carriage identification, reservations or more information can be represented. The very high resolution of 1600 x 640 pixels offers the user display options, such as pictograms, diagrams, etc. on the exterior of the vehicle for the first time on an electronic display. Especially in on-vehicle applications, the power consumption of the electronic components is important. These displays offer the operators the possibility of implementing new information or marketing concepts on the vehicle. With a sophisticated design, the display can be integrated optimally into existing vehicles, within the body or door of the train carriage. The displays are based on the bi-stable ChLCD display technology, energy is used only to update the information on displays, in standby mode consumes almost no power. 14 PTS Internal Displays LCD and LED For the presentation of the next stop in the interior of vehicles, we offer our customers simple solutions using either LED or LCD technologies. LED technology For the representation of simple information is the LED with a resolution of 8x144 pixels. This cost-effective solution has a life of about 100,000 hours. LCD technology With LCD technology, we have the standard 16x184 pixel display with a lifespan of 200,000 hours. Depending on the information content, we can offer additional resolutions and colour options to our customers. These displays are very energy efficient and flexible in the information they can display. 16 PTS Internal Display Media TFT The special sizes of TFT display systems were designed specifically for indoor applications in vehicles. It is common in vehicles for there to be space constraints in the available height or width and so standard TFTs cannot be used. For these applications, we develop for our customers individual display sizes and customise the display system to the requirements of the vehicle. With this display technology any information can be, represented depending on the situation: news ticker, dynamic route progressions, connections, graphical elements, videos, adverts etc. The PTS Media Suite manages this content and allows an individual design of information for display to passengers. 18 PTS Editor PIT For our customers to edit the messages to show on the PTS destination displays outdoor + indoor, the PIT editor is very easy to use and intuitive. Free graphical programming, drag and drop, WYSIWYG principle, zoomable overview window and fast editing via hot keys can be achieved with this editor. Likewise, the creation and modification of fonts, graphics, images and logos. All parameters are easily configurable and the data is transmitted via USB memory stick. The messages and graphics edited with the PIT editor can be selected for display using the PTS control device or an existing on-board computer. 19 PTS Media Suite The PTS Media Suite is required to control the PTS internal media TFT displays and consists of the interaction between the PTS Media Player, a PTS player Editor and a PTS Media update PTS Media Editor (workplace based) The software PTS Media Suite can be installed on a standard PC with Windows 7/8. The PTS Media Editor includes a customer management system (CMS) and is used to configure media and information under definable conditions / criteria (date / time, stop, route, door open/closed, GPS, digital signals, etc.). This content can be configured via the PTS Media Editor. The PTS Media Player uses the CMS situation according to the specifications of the PTS media editor. Criteria are date / time, stop, route, door open/closed, GPS, digital signals and so on. Any information that is sent to the system (E.g. via IBIS) can be use as a criterion. Also, several areas are definable, which can be filled with different and also independent content. PTS Media update At the end of the PTS media update data is transferred via Wi-Fi, USB, or GPRS / UMTS. Special value is placed on an efficient, compressed transmission. The transmission path can be configured separately for each update operation. 19
