4 Introduction The Model 2300 Intelligent Operator Interface is ideally suited for applications that require operator input, operator prompting, process monitoring, and communication to other controls or process equipment. The ability to communicate to multiple serial devices and to LANs makes the Model 2300 a powerful and versatile tool for OEMs and System Integrators. Configure the Model 2300 with WinBuild Eason s easy-to-use configuration and control software tool. WinBuild 2000 allows a complete program to be generated graphically in a Windows point-and-click environment. The use of powerful pseudocodes (macros), and the ability to embed C and Assembly Language modules into the program give maximum flexibility. In addition, WinBuild 2000 has powerful Networking features that support serial, LAN, and modem connections. Communicate with PLC's, motion controllers, or other serial devices using the drivers in WinBuild PLC drivers include A-B SLC500, GE9030, Modicon, Koyo, and many others. The Model 2300 is NEMA 4 rated when panel mounted and is designed to withstand tough factory environments. Operator entry is performed via the standard grid matrix touchscreen. The standard display is a high contrast 1/4 VGA backlit LCD. An LCD color display is also available. At 8.75 W x 6.5 H x 2.41 D, the Model 2300 takes up minimal panel and cabinet space. Maximum operating temperature is 50C. Input power requirements: VDC, 10W. 2

5 Unpacking and Inspection Inspect the Model 2300 s shipping container. Is there evidence of damage or mishandling? If damage exists, contact your shipping carrier immediately. Eason Technology cannot be held responsible for damage in shipment. Compare the contents of the container which the packing list which is attached to the exterior of the shipping container. Your Model 2300 should include the following: 1. Model This Manual Ship Kit: Mounting Hardware 4. Packet with Manuals and Software for: MSDOS Optional WinBuild 2000 Utility Disk(s) Quick Start The purpose of the Quick Start is to help an experienced industrial controls user verify that the Model 2300 is operational and ready for configuration and programming. The following directions assume the user is familiar with operator interface panels and their related electrical connections. The user should also be familiar with personal computers and their operation. Setting Up 1. Locate the unit near a PC with Windows95 loaded on it. For best results a Pentium computer with at least 32Mb of memory should be used. 2. Closely follow the directions for loading WinBuild 2000 onto your PC. 3. Connect the Null Modem serial cable (provided with unit) between the PROG PORT on the Model 2300 and an unused port on the PC. 4. Apply 18-30V DC power to the Model 2300 (there is no power switch on the Model 2300). 5. Run WinBuild 2000 on your PC. 6. Load the screen program 2000FamilyDemo.OIP. This program contains a sample program, which demonstrates the use of the Model Click on the Build, Compile Reboot! button. Depending on the speed of your computer, compiling may take seconds. A progress bar will indicate the program is compiling. 8. Once done compiling WinBuild 2000 will then download the application to your unit. A message should appear indicating that the program is downloading, along with a status bar. 9. The 2300 will automatically reboot when the download is complete. 10. The demo program should now be running on the Model

6 Location and Identification of Connectors The figure below identifies the location of each connector on the rear panel. COM2 COM1 PROGRAM PORT RESET KEYBOARD INPUT POWER Input Power The input power connector utilizes a Phoenix connector screw terminal. Input voltage range can be from VDC. Nominal power consumption with ¼ VGA panel backlight on is approximately 10W. It is recommended that you use a Power Supply capable of at least 1A to handle start-up current draw. RS232 Connectors All three serial communications ports conform to EIA RS232 industry standards. They are transient protected by a 14VAC transorb connected to earth ground, and have a 100µH ferrite filter in series with the connector and internal circuitry. 7 RS422 Connector Serial port COM2 can be electronically switched to dis able the RS232 connectors and route the signals through EIA RS422/485 transceivers. RS422/485 has the capability of driving signals over long distances (up to 100M). Eason s implementation is unique in that it utilizes flexible signal routing via software control with magnetic isolation. Each port has four wires associated with it: TX+, TX-, RX+, and RX-. Any +/- pair can be swapped from transmitter to receive via software control. The magnetic isolation is similar to the RS232 interface: all lines are transient protected by a 14VAC transorb connected to earth ground, and have a 100µH ferrite filter in series with the connector and internal circuitry.
