1 TOSHIBA Strata CTX Sales Bulletin February 27, 2002 SB Announcing Strata CTX100 The New Era Continues The Strata CTX sets the stage for an exciting new generation of digital business telephone systems. We are very pleased to announce the Strata CTX100 Digital Business Telephone System. This new generation product provides the same important new features to small users as the CTX670 provides to medium and larger users. That s right, Networking, new DKT3000-series telephones, and the whole works all in a small, affordable system. The CTX100 meets the cost-effective needs of small users. The CTX100 also provides expansion capacity far beyond any of the previous small Strata systems. The CTX100 replaces the DK40i in the Strata product line. It starts as small as 12 ports and grows as large as 112 ports, covering sizes that required a DK424i B1 size processor. Now that s investment protection! The CTX100 and CTX670 is an unbeatable combination. The CTX100 provides all the big system features not available to small users from any other competitor. The CTX670 expands your marketplace with a hybrid system large enough to compete with more expensive Private Branch Exchange (PBX) systems. New Technology The Strata CTX100 is an all new system that is based upon the same new technology as the Strata CTX670. This enables the CTX100 to provide configuration flexibility and optimum operation. The CTX100 uses a high-speed 32-bit Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) processor, Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) working memory, Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) with lithium battery for back-up memory, on-board flash program memory and removable Toshiba SmartMedia TM flash memory. The removable SmartMedia flash card can store programs, system database, trace, error, alarm and other maintenance data. A PC SmartMedia reader/writer accessory makes it possible to copy data and perform high speed data transport over the Internet. Better yet, it makes future software upgrades easy without replacing memory chip hardware. Both software upgrades and revisions can be loaded into the CTX via modem, LAN, or through the Internet. The CTX100 software is written using the latest software development programming tools to optimize operational efficiency and make future enhancements easier. Robust multi-system networking capabilities are provided using QSIG call control standards. Feature options are software controlled using custom LSI hardware and do not require additional DSP hardware to allocate feature resources. 2 New Software Features Digital PAD technology is used to adjust for differing transmission levels between internal devices and external telephone lines, especially useful for conference calls. Various levels are controlled and set in programming. No additional hardware is required. The processor supports an optional NIC port for 10base-T LAN connection of Computer Supported Telephony Applications (CSTA), in addition to the new Windows-based administration program. This new CTI link provides extensive call control and telephone support for CTI applications. The NIC port also makes the CTX100 Internet-enabled. CTX100 supports remote telephones through IP networks using the MCK branch extender products recently added to the Toshiba product line. CTX100 supports today s high-demand trunk interfaces using VoIP and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) technology. As you can see, the CTX100 new architecture represents a new generation of digital business telephone systems. New Software Features The Strata CTX100 uses essentially the same software as the CTX670, so functionality and features are the same for the two systems. This includes all the new software features and enhancements not previously available with Strata DK systems. 4 Product Structure Product Structure Here are the major highlights of the Strata CTX100. Cabinets The CTX100 can be configured as a one or two cabinet system consisting of a Base Cabinet and an optional Expansion Cabinet (shown right). The CTX100 Base Cabinet (CHSUB112A) has one processor slot, four universal slots, and a built-in power supply. The CTX100 Expansion Cabinet (CHSUE112A) has four universal slots and a built-in power supply. The CTX100 Base Cabinet and Expansion Cabinet use the same universal CO line, station, and option cards as the CTX670. For battery backup applications, the optional Battery Charger Subassembly (ABCS) can be attached to the CTX100 cabinet power supply. An Base Cabinet ABCS must be installed in both the Base Cabinet and Expansion Cabinets to provide trickle charging of reserve power batteries for each cabinet. Expansion Cabinet 6015 Processor The CTX100 uses a completely new single-card processor unit (ACTU1A). It uses a high-speed 32-bit RISC processor, DRAM working memory, SRAM with lithium battery on-board flash program memory and removable Toshiba SmartMedia flash memory. The CTX100 processor has the following standard components built-in. SmartMedia memory card interface for software upgrades, alarms, error logs, and admin logs done locally or remotely. One Music-on-hold/Background Music Interface (RCA jack) with volume control. Paging interface. Memory Protection Lithium Battery. The following optional subassembly components can be added to the CTX100 processor: DTMF receiver/busy tone detector subassembly (ARCS) provides four DTMF receivers and 16 busy tone detectors (12 more DTMF receivers can be activated with software license to a maximum of 16 total). Network Interface Card subassembly (AETS) provides a 10base-T Ethernet LAN connection of the CTX WinAdmin computer, ACD server, CTX Attendant Console, Stratagy ES for voice mail soft key features, and CSTA CTI applications Kbps/V.34 modem subassembly (AMDS) for remote maintenance. Serial Port Interface Subassembly (BSIS1A) provides up to two RS-232C serial ports that can be used for Call Accounting, SMDR and SMDI or Toshiba Proprietary Voice Mail integration. 4 of 9 Announcing Strata CTX100 The New Era Continues

5 Product Structure One processor model supports all CTX100 configurations, from smallest to largest. To accommodate affordable price points in both small and large configurations, the CTX100 processor is expandable beyond 32 ports by adding software licenses to the processor. This is the most cost-effective way for a customer to grow without having to replace any common equipment. Capacities Maximum capacities are controlled in the processor unit by software trunk/station port licenses. The CTX100 processor supports the following capacity configurations. The CTX100 processor comes standard with capacity of 32 line/station port licenses that can be used for any combination of CO lines and stations. Additional software line/station port licenses can be added in increments of four, up to a maximum of 112 total ports. DTMF receiver/busy tone detector activation (beyond the first four provided by the ARCS DTMF subassembly) in increments of four (up to a maximum 16 total). Software Options Several software options are available. They are software controlled and do not require hardware option keys. This makes it easy to activate optional features with the entry of software activation license codes. The following software options are available with the CTX100. DTMF/busy tone receiver activation in increments of four (maximum 16). Serial Interface on the BSIS1A (first port is included, while subsequent ports require a license). Strata Net QSIG Networking. CSTA CTI Open Architecture Interface link application license (maximum nine). Automatic Call Distribution (ACD) ACD is an external software option with the CTX100 provided by connection of an external PC-based CTI application server. The CTI server runs both the ACD call processing application and a separate Management Information System (MIS) application such as Insight CTX, as well as other CTI applications. The ACD server will not be available at the initial release of the CTX100. The ACD server option is scheduled to become available after the initial release. Existing Compatible Interface PCBs All the CO line and station PCBs from the DK424i/424/280, except EKT PCBs are compatible with the CTX100 and CTX670. This also includes many of the older DK24/56/96 PCBs, which are also compatible with CTX100 systems. See the compatibility section later in this bulletin for details. New Interface PCBs In addition to existing CO line and station PCBs remaining as part of the Strata CTX product line, the following new interfaces are also supported by the CTX100. The Digital Station Interface Unit (BDKU1A) provides eight digital station circuits for 3000-series or 2000-series digital telephones. The BDKU1A has connectors for an eight-port add-on subassembly (BDKS1A). Announcing Strata CTX100 The New Era Continues 5 of 9

6 Product Line Strategy The Digital Station Interface Subassembly (BDKS1A) attaches to the BDKU1A to provide eight additional digital station circuits. The BDKU1A/BDKS1A combination provides a total of 16 digital station circuits in the same slot. The Serial Port Interface Subassembly (BSIS1A) provides up to two RS-232C serial ports that can be used for SMDR and SMDI or Toshiba Proprietary Voice Mail integration. The BSIS1A subassembly mounts onto the CTX100 processor card. The Option Interface Unit (BIOU1A) provides four-zone paging, three MOH inputs with volume control, four control relays, Background Music (BGM) mute, and a 600 ohm or 3-watt amplifier page output. The BIOU1A does not support SMDR or other types of RS-232 serial ports. The Integrated PC Interface Unit (BPCI1A) is a TAPI-compatible interface that connects the series digital telephone to the PC via Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. The BPCI1A is a PCB that is installed inside the 3000-series digital telephone, and does not require a DKT base replacement. The BPCI1A will not be available at the initial release of the CTX670 or CTX100 and will become available at a later date. Telephone and Console Support The CTX100 supports all Toshiba digital telephones (DKT1000-series, DKT2000-series, DKT3000- series) and analog single-line telephones (2500-sets). The CTX100 does not support analog electronic telephones (EKT6500-series, EKT6000-series, etc.). The Strata CTX100 will support the new Strata CTX Attendant Console that is scheduled to become available after the initial release of the CTX100. The DK424 PC Attendant Console and the former ATT- BASE-1 proprietary attendant console are not compatible with Strata CTX systems. Product Line Strategy The new Strata family consists of the DK14, CTX100, and CTX670. The Strata CTX100 will replace the Strata DK40i in the Strata product line, expanding both the features and maximum capacity for smaller users. The DK40i will still be available during this transition period and will not be discontinued immediately. The Toshiba 3000-series digital telephones replace the 2000-series digital telephones in the Strata product line. The 2000-series digital telephones will continue to be available for existing customer upgrades and replacements. Compatibility The Strata CTX100 uses different Base and Expansion Cabinets than the CTX670. However, for future customers who migrate from a CTX100 to a larger CTX670, the transition is very cost effective. The CO line and station PCBs continue to be used, as well as the digital telephones. The migration from CTX100 to CTX670 requires replacement of the processor and cabinets. The following table shows both backward and forward compatibility between Strata CTX100 and Strata DK components and telephones. The DK40i KCDU CO/DKT interface is not compatible with CTX100. Documentation Strata CTX documentation that includes both the CTX100 and CTX670 has been developed and is available. This documentation is included in the new Strata Library CD-ROM. Strata CTX General Description Strata CTX Installation & Maintenance Manual Strata CTX Programming Manual Strata CTX User Guides, including a 3000-series DKT user guide in a new and improved user-friendly format. Note The Strata Library CD-ROM also includes Strata CTX WinAdmin software. Training Both technical and sales training curriculums for the Strata CTX will be offered.
