Read this note before update If you are updating from versions 1.0 or 1.1 please pay attention to this note before updating to new release. The plugin needs WordPress 3.9+ and PHP 5.3+ to work. The new version has some features that was changed since previous versions. So in order to maintain the compatibility with your past reviews and templates you have to follow these steps below. 1. Backup your blog database. 2. Deactivate the Reviewer Plugin. 3. Delete it and upload the new version Activate the Reviewer Plugin again. 5. Inside the Reviewer Tab in the menu section click on Preferences page. 6. At the bottom of the page click the Restore Data button and confirm the process. Now you are ready to enjoy the new plugin features. 3

5 1. Getting Started The Reviewer WordPress Plugin allows you to insert reviews and comparison tables inside your WordPress blog posts and pages in a quick and easy way. The plugin flexible structure allows you to create any review type: no limits, just create a review template and insert your personal review inside your posts or pages. The plugin offers 8 customizable themes so that you can adapt your reviews and comparison tables to your need. Each theme has a responsive layout to adapt to any devices resolution such as smartphones and tablets. The plugin support users rating so blog visitors can leave their reviews. Read the list in the next section to know all plugin features. 2. 6 3. Plugin Installation Before installing the plugin check you have WordPress 3.8 or higher and PHP 5.3 or higher installed. When you are ready, you need to upload the Reviewer Plugin on your WordPress Blog and active the plugin itself. The plugin can be uploaded in two ways: FTP Upload: open your FTP client, upload the non-zipped plugin folder (reviewer) into your WordPress installation folder: inside /wp-content/plugins. WordPress Upload: login in your WordPress admin area and navigate to Plugins > Add New > Upload. Go to browse and select the reviewer.zip file. Hit Install Now and the plugin will be uploaded and installed. Once the plugin is installed, you need to make it active. Go to Plugins and activate the Reviewer plugin. 4. How to Setup and Use the Plugin When the Reviewer plugin is successfully installed you can setup it and start to review you products or items. 4.1 Create Review Template Before creating a review or a comparison table you need to create a new template, a model that it will be applied to your future reviews or tables. In the Reviewer section click on the Add new template link to create a new template. Fill fields choosing a theme, deciding your colors palette, setting templates labels, adding criteria for reviews and finally save your first new template. 6

7 4.1.1 Replace Star Icon Since version 2.0 the plugin offers the possibility to replace the star icon used inside themes. You can upload a custom image but it must have some required features: It must be a sprite image exported in PNG format with alpha channel activated. Its size must be 48 x 96 pixel and contains the active state and normal state of icon. You can use the Adobe Photoshop template included with the Reviewer Plugin to create a correct image. Edit and export for web the reviewer-icon-template.psd file and upload the new icon inside your template for reviews and table. 4.2 Add Review and Comparison Table Once you have successfully created your template you can add your first review. Go to the Post section and add or edit a post. Under the text editor you should have two new boxes: one for Reviews and one for Comparison Table. Inside the boxes you can add any reviews or tables you want. When you have filled reviews or tables forms be sure to save/update/publish the post. If you don t save the post all modifications on reviews or tables will not be saved. Check if reviews and tables are been added correctly and now you are able to insert them inside the post. 4.3 Insert a Review, a Table in a Post or a Reviews List Inside the post editor toolbar you can note two new icons. If you click the first one you can view a list of all reviews and comparison tables available for the post. Place the cursor inside the editor in which you want to insert the review or table and select one of them from the list. 7

8 Reviewer WordPress Plugin An other way to add a review or table inside the post is writing the shortcode manually. You can copy and paste the generated shortcode you can find inside each review or table tab. The second button allows to generate a shortcode for a Reviews List. A Reviews list has the same features of the Widget - described at step but it can be inserted inside a post or page. 8

9 4.4 Localize Reviewer Plugin The plugin support WordPress localization feature. You can traslate plugin back-end features in your language simply translating a list of labels. The current version supports the following languages: English (default), Italian. To traslante the plugin you need to follow these simple steps: Download the free software Poedit from its website Inside the reviewer folder you can find a subfolder named languages that contains all available language files. Duplicate the reviewer-default.po file and renamed as reviewer-[language extension].po You can find your [language extension] on WordPress Codex site at the link. Open the new file with Poedit and translate all labels. Once you have completed the process set your language blog and you should get your Reviewer Plugin localized. 4.5 Widget The plugin offers a WordPress Widget. You can find it inside Appearance > Widget page; it s named Reviewer Widget. After you have dragged and dropped the widget inside one of your sidebar you can configure and save the widget setting. 9

10 5. Back-end Pages The new version 2.0 offers two new admin pages. The Reviews and the Preferences pages. Let s describe them. 5.1 Reviews Page The Reviews page contains all Reviews you have inserted inside your posts or pages. You can view some important informations about reviews such as the title, the post, the score and the users scores. You can reset also the review users scores if there was some problems with it. 5.2 Preferences Page The Preference page allows you to set some settings of Reviewer plugin. They are listed below: Set rating authorization: All users can rate Logged user only can rate Disable rating Set rating mode: Classic Five Stars Rating Full Rating ( users can express a vote for each criterion of review ) Decide in which post type you want to inset reviews and tables 10

11 6. Themes The plugin offers 8 gorgeous themes so that your reviews and comparison tables can adapt to your needs. The themes are customizable: you can decide colors, font size and labels text. All available themes are showed below. 6.1 Theme 1 11
