These systems and products include: IBM BladeCenter and IBM Flex System Manager chassis and blade serers IBM Power Systems (formerly System i and System p systems) IBM System Storage Network Attached Storage (NAS) products System x serers System z systems To determine whether a system meets the hardware requirements for your IBM Systems Director systems-management enironment, see Hardware requirements. Notes: 1. The degree of support that IBM Systems Director proides on these systems and products might ary. IBM Systems Director runs on IBM Power and System z systems when the installed operating system is also supported by IBM Systems Director. 3. 15 Task support for network management Find out which tasks are supported by Network Management for your network deices. The tables proide lists of network deices, separated by type, and notes which tasks are only supported by IBM Systems Director Network Control. The following tasks are included in the support tables: Discoery, Request Access, Inentory, Monitoring, and Alerts Use these basic network management functions to discoer network deices, request access, gather information, and monitor status and deice health. Network adapters do not require discoery. Packet Internet Groper (ping) and Traceroute These network diagnostic tools help you test connections between network deices and troubleshoot network systems connectiity. Network diagnostic support is listed in the table, howeer, they cannot be used on switches configured with a second priileged mode password or on IP6 targets. Stacked Switch support Switch stacking allows you to combine seeral physical switches into one logical entity. The stacked switch functions as a single network deice, with one IP address for the stack. IBM Systems Director Network Control proides full support for some switch modules. Other switch modules are supported only in their indiidual (non-stacked) configurations. Configuration Management and Automated Logical Network Proisioning (ALNP) You can work with the VLAN configuration and Protocol configuration of some deices using IBM Systems Director Configuration Manager. Additionally, such deices can be members of network system pools, which will then support the automatic proisioning of logical network profiles, for VLAN settings, during VM management. The following tables indicate which deices support these configuration management tasks. For more information on automating logical network proisioning in your enironment, see the topic Automating network proisioning using profiles and pools. Note: Disabling Protocol configuration on deices that are supported by Configuration Management, will block communication between IBM Systems Director and the network deice. In general, Protocol configuration should not be disabled. Link to endor management functions You can use launch-in-context to access endor management application for some deices directly from the IBM Systems Director interface. This function opens the endor management application for the deice you were iewing in IBM Systems Director. Tasks can then be completed from within the endor management software. This IBM Systems Director Network Control task requires additional steps; see the topic Set up IBM System Storage Data Center Fabric Manager (DCFM) to integrate with IBM Systems Director Network Control for more information. 16 Non-BladeCenter Ethernet switch deices Other network deices, including Fibre Channel oer Conerged Enhanced Ethernet (FCoCEE) switches, Fast Connection Failoer (FCF) bridges, Security appliances, and irtual network deices. The following tables identify supported network deices which hae been tested for interoperability with IBM Systems Director. Other network deices with limited interoperability might be recognized during discoery and inentory. Important: Not all network deices support management oer SNMP3. If you are unable to manage a deice with SNMP3, you can try managing the deice with SNMP1 instead. Table 1.
