Technical changes to the text are indicated by a ertical line to the left of the change. These conentions hae the following meanings: Information type Style conention Example Commands All capital letters CREATE xi IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os Installation Guide

19 Information type Style conention Example References in the text to fields on panels Input you should type in panel fields First time new term introduced, book titles All capital letters Monospace Italics QUANTITY MYAPPLICATION Application What Is New in This Version The following sections summarize the changes in this ersion of IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler. z/os Functions You can hae the local time on a z/os system change automatically, for example, for daylight saings time, without haing to stop and restart IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler. Note: The local time automatic change cannot happen when Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os runs in a Sysplex enironment with a Sysplex Timer configured with ETRMODE YES and ETRZONE YES. You can turn the JESLOG SPIN option on or off using the SPIN keyword in the OPCOPTS statement. By default IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler adds the JESLOG=NOSPIN parameter to the JOB card when the following conditions both occur: You submit a JCL on a CPU running z/os Version 1.2 or higher. In the OPCOPTS initialization statement, you specify data store or job completion checker actiities. To facilitate migration from other scheduling products, IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler operations now accept a new symbolic name that can be up to 54 characters long. This operation extended name enables you to represent the job with something other than the operation number. You can specify the operation extended name when you define an operation in the database or when you copy it into the current plan. You can also use it to filter queries on operations in the database and current plan. You can use a mixed connection (SNA and XCF) between the controller and allocated data stores. A new exit routine, EQQUXPIF, alidates changes in an application description (AD) made using the programming interface (PIF), batch loader (BL), and the Job Scheduling Console (JSC). To increase the irtual storage from 16 MB to 2 GB, the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler components hae been changed to use 31-bit addressing mode instead of 24-bit. End-to-End Functions For fault-tolerant workstations, you can continue to use centralized scripts, which are stored in the JOBLIB data set. With centralized scripts, you can perform ariable substitution, automatic recoery, JCL editing, and job setup (as for the jobs in the JOBLIB). Howeer, this implies a loss of fault tolerance and requires downloading the script to the agent eery time the job is submitted. You need to weigh the benefits and disadantages of using centralized scripts. Preface xii

20 You can use a new syntax to recoer non-centralized jobs on distributed agents automatically when the jobs abend. This recoery is similar to the recoery in the distributed enironment. You can use ariable substitution for jobs that run on fault-tolerant workstations and that do not use centralized scripts. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler supplied-ariable and user-defined ariable tables are supported. You can enable firewall support and SSL authentication in end-to-end scheduling. You can specify a success condition for each job that determines whether a job is considered successful or abended. You can specify or modify the deadline time for a job or a job stream. There are new log files for netman, batchman, mailman, the writer, and the translator. Multiple domain managers can be connected to the controller. This allows greater flexibility, scalability, and improed performance. You can make an application or an operation dependent on the existence of one or more files before it can begin execution. You can actiate and deactiate the submission of jobs scheduled in an end-to-end enironment. You can enable or disable the auditing trail of a plan. You can change the status of distributed agents and switch their domain manager. You can refresh the content of the work directory. You can use the ISPF panels to produce an APAR tape that collects end-to-end data. You can use the Job Migration Tool to migrate from tracker agents to distributed agents. Serer Connectiity How to Read Syntax Diagrams The serer can use APPC and TCP/IP in simultaneous connections with the Job Scheduling Console, PIF, ISPF panels, and distributed agents. When an application is moed to another system in a sysplex enironment, for example, for maintenance of the current system or for a failure, the application can be reached under the same irtual IP address. Using a dynamic irtual IP address makes the end-to-end configuration more flexible, because your application is independent of the TCP/IP stack within the sysplex. Throughout this book, syntax is described in diagrams like the one shown here, which describes the SRSTAT TSO command: SRSTAT ' resource name ' OPCA SUBSYS( subsystem name ) MSTR xiii IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os Installation Guide

It automatically plans, controls, and monitors your production workload to maximize the throughput and optimize resource use, but lets you interene manually when required. If you are currently using preiously supported ersions, follow the instructions in Part 3, Migrating, on page 147. This chapter introduces IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os and its implementation. Later chapters describe the installation and migration tasks in greater detail. If you are not familiar with IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os terminology or functions, read the General Information. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os consists of a base product, the agent, and a number of features. You need the base product to track the workload. Hereafter, you might see the agent referred to as the tracker and the engine referred to as the controller. One z/os system in your complex is designated the controlling system and runs the controller feature. Only one controller feature is required, een when you want to start standby controllers on other z/os systems in a sysplex. You can control work that runs on non-z/os operating enironments from a central controller. You need the appropriate fault-tolerant workstation and the end-to-end enabler feature on the controlling system of the scheduler. Refer to IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler Planning and Installation Guide for a list of supported operating enironments. The workload on other operating enironments can also be controlled using the end-to-end scheduling functionality proided by IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os and by IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler. Additionally, national language features let you see the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os ISPF dialogs in the language of your choice. These languages are aailable: English German Japanese Spanish This section describes the tracker and controller, their relationship, and the ways in which you can configure them. Tracker A tracker is required for eery z/os system in a IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os configuration. The tracker handles the submission of jobs and tasks on the system, and keeps track of the status of the workload. In conjunction with Copyright IBM Corp. 1991,

26 standard interfaces to JES and SMF, IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os records the releant information about the workload by generating eent records. The eent records are captured and stored by the tracker. The tracker then communicates eent information to the controller for further processing. The log where eents are written by the tracker is called the eent data set. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os address spaces are defined as z/os subsystems. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os routines that execute during subsystem initialization establish serices that enable eent information to be generated and stored in common storage (ECSA) een when an address space is not actie. You can optionally install a data store for each JES spool in a system. In a simple JES configuration this would mean one data store for each tracker. In systems with shared spools (for example, JES2 MAS), there is a data store for each spool, and there are fewer data stores than trackers. Controller The controller is the focal point of your IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os configuration. It contains the controlling functions, the ISPF dialogs, the databases, and the plans. The system that the controller is started on is called the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os controlling system. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os systems that communicate with the controlling system are called controlled, or tracker systems. You need to install at least one controller for your production systems. It can control the entire IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os configuration, the OPCplex, both local and remote. You can use the controller to proide a single, consistent, control point for submitting and tracking the workload on any operating enironment. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os proides distributed agents and open interfaces that enable you to integrate the planning, scheduling, and control of work units such as online transactions, file transfers, or batch processing in any operating enironment that can communicate with z/os. Serer IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os proides a serer that enables you to access the controller remotely from ISPF dialogs, PIFs, and from the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler Job Scheduling Console interface. Connections with the serer run through adanced program-to-program communications APPC sessions, or just for the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler Job Scheduling Console using TCP/IP connections. The serer runs in its own address space; howeer, it is optional if you do not access the controller remotely. The serer is also used to communicate with the distributed agents for the end-to-end feature. A Started Task JCL enables you to start and stop one or more serers either indiidually, using the Start and Stop operator commands, or automatically with the controller, using a keyword in the OPCOPTS statement. A serer must start on the same z/os image as its controller. Only one serer can be started with the end-to-end feature actie. The PIF dialog connection to the controller, whether ia serer or subsystem interface, is only allowed when the code is at the same leel on both sides of the interface. 4 IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os Installation Guide

27 Data Store Data store is a separate address space. Its function is to collect structured (steps and data sets) and, optionally, unstructured (SYSOUT) information for all submitted jobs. Data store is required in order to use the restart and cleanup functions: Restart at the job or step leel Data set clean up JOBLOG retrieal The controller can be connected to data store ia XCF or SNA. Configurations You can configure IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os to control irtually any combination of operating enironments. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os can automatically schedule, submit, and track batch jobs, started tasks, and write-to-operator (WTO) messages. You can also use IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os to coordinate manual actiities in your production workload. Your IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os configuration can include: A controlling system Controlled systems: Local and remote controlled z/os systems, including a parallel sysplex Standby controller systems Preious OPC Releases. Controlled systems that run on distributed agents. Other operating enironments that do not support the distributed agents. Chapter 2, Planning Your Configuration, on page 11 explains connections between IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os systems and shows examples of configurations. Controlling System A controlling IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os system requires both a tracker and a controller. If you install only one IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os system, this is the controlling system. The controlling IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os system can communicate with controlled z/os systems using shared DASD, the cross-system coupling facility (XCF), and the network communication function (NCF). Controlled Systems A controlled z/os system requires a tracker. Communication with the controlling system is through shared DASD, XCF, or NCF. The tracker writes eent records to an eent data set, and transfers the records to the controlling system if connected ia XCF or NCF. NCF uses ACF/VTAM to link IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os systems. If you use XCF for communication, you can include a standby controller on one or more controlled systems. A standby controller is started in its own address space. It can take oer the functions of the controller if z/os fails or if the controller itself fails. It cannot perform the functions of a tracker while in standby mode. Chapter 1. Oeriew 5

28 You can use IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os to control workloads on operating enironments that hae the end-to-end feature. Controlled systems connect to the controlling system using adanced program-to-program communication (APPC) serices. The controller can also control the workload in other operating enironments, such as VM/ESA. The Customization and Tuning publication describes in detail controlling other operating enironments. Integration with IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler The end-to-end feature is based on the Common Agent Technology and it enables IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os to be the master of a IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler distributed network. This configuration is implemented by connecting a IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler domain manager directly to IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os. IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os receies eents from the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler distributed network and updates the current plan (CP) according to these eents. Conersely, eery time the current plan is updated, an eent is sent to the distributed network to update local plans on the distributed agents. Being fault-tolerant, the distributed agents can independently carry on with scheduling when communications with IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os are interrupted due to network problems. At the same time, the distributed agents are preented from acting on IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os jobs since these are iewed as running on the Master that is the only node that has the authorization to operate on those jobs. A new type of CPU, named fault-tolerant workstation, is added to IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os to logically define in the database and in the plan the distributed agents that will be running jobs for IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os. Subtasks A IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os address space consists of many z/os subtasks. Some of these subtasks are always attached when the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os address space is started, others are conditionally attached according to initialization parameters specified for the scheduler options (OPCOPTS) statement in the IBM Tioli Workload Scheduler for z/os parameter library. The following table describes the subtasks. Table 1.
