Title: Feb 1 11:00 AM (1 of 39) This page I wrote in Word and then saved as a web page. That means, this is not code I wrote, it is code that Microsoft generated.
Title: Feb 1 11:07 AM (2 of 39) When I want to link to another page, I use the anchor or a tag. inside, I put the href= followed by the name of the page in quotes. If the page not in the same directory as the current page, I need a path to find it. After the <a> tag, I put the words I want to show on my page and then the close a <a>.
Title: Feb 1 11:07 AM (3 of 39)
This introduces CSS or cascading style sheets. Note that the CSS is written with the style tag and is inside the <head>. Title: Feb 1 11:11 AM (4 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:12 AM (5 of 39) I want this to apply to the body so I put body and then the things I want to apply in { }. Body is the selector. Then inside I have the property and its value. The property is a CSS property and in this case it is color. I am setting the color to the value red. Note the : after property and the ; at the end.
Title: Feb 1 11:14 AM (6 of 39) selector { property: value; }
Title: Feb 1 11:15 AM (7 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:15 AM (8 of 39)
The image in this example is in the same directory as the html page. If the image is elsewhere, you need an address. This puts the image on the page. Title: Feb 1 11:16 AM (9 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:17 AM (10 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:21 AM (11 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:23 AM (12 of 39) Now I am setting up a table and I am giving style to that table.
<body> <p>this is an introduction to HTML.<br /><br /> Now I am going to make a table!</p> <table> <tr> This sets up the table, the <tr> makes a row and the <td> makes a cell with a row. On this table there are two rows and each row contains two cells. <td>this is the first cell of the table.</td> <td><img src="cisa.gif" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td>this is the second row and the left most cell</td> <td>this is the second row and the right most cell</td> </tr> </table> </body> </html> Title: Feb 2 10:27 AM (13 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:25 AM (14 of 39)
Your assignment is to create a professional portfolio this is a very basic example. Title: Feb 1 11:29 AM (15 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:29 AM (16 of 39) The first page linked to this second page. The links do no work. When you make your portfolio, you will evenually put in links to work you have done.
We will go back to HTML when I get server passwords for you. In the meantime, we are going to change direction and start to look at a database we will use Access. When you get your MSDN invitation, you can download Access. Title: Feb 1 11:35 AM (17 of 39)
I clicked here and selected new. Name the database and choose where to save it. Title: Feb 1 11:37 AM (18 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:38 AM (19 of 39) I am naming it FirstS11 and storing it on my flash drive. Note the extension will be.accdb.
Title: Feb 1 11:39 AM (20 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:40 AM (21 of 39) This is not the way I want to do it, so on the next slide I will show it a different way.
I click on the design icon and it has me name the table. Somehow I left the old table when I did this, I will delete it. We will look at this again in the next class. Title: Feb 1 11:41 AM (22 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:44 AM (23 of 39) This is the design mode I want (see my PowerPoint presentation on Access 2007 to see a better showing of how I did it). My first field I am naming Idno (I changed it from the default ID) and I made the type number (autonumber is not very useful) and I made the fieldsize a long interger so it can store a large number.
Do not use embedded spaces when you name a field. In other words, do not use ID NO. You can use ID_NO or you can use IdNo or Idno. Now I have added two more fields. The field size on AName is 40 and the field size on major is 2 as you can see below. A text field allows any data to be enered: letters, numbers and/or special characters. Title: Feb 1 11:46 AM (24 of 39)
I decided to change the name of the field I called AName and make it StuName instead. I can make these corrections as I layout the table. Now I have added GPA which is single because it needs to be a small decimal number. GPA does not go above 4, but has multiple decimal places. Title: Feb 1 11:47 AM (25 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:48 AM (26 of 39) Now I am adding the number of courses which I named NumCrs. Remember, no embedded spaces in the name. I cannot say Num Crs. I can say Num_Crs. I made the field size integer because number of courses is a whole number, but it will never be very high, as in the tens of thousands.
Now I want to put data in my table, I click the icon above and it will bring up a view where I can enter data. I am making a database table which is a collection of records about my students in th case. Each student will have a record on the table and all records will follow this layout. They will all have an Idno field, a StuName field, a Major field etc. Title: Feb 1 11:49 AM (27 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:51 AM (28 of 39)
I am now entering data to create records. A record can also be called a row because it is a row in the table. A field can also be called a column because the fields under each other make a colum Title: Feb 1 11:52 AM (29 of 39)
If I want to go back to the layout, I can click on the design icon. Title: Feb 1 11:53 AM (30 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:57 AM (31 of 39)
Now I want to select certain data to see so I am going to create a query. The table that I want (the only table in this case) is highlighted, I can then click on Add. Title: Feb 1 11:57 AM (32 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:58 AM (33 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 11:59 AM (34 of 39) I can drag the fields down to the query layout or double click to move them down. I can put the fields in any order and I can only put some of them. When I want to see the results of the query, I click on the view icon.
Click on the design icon to go back o the design layout. It is a toggle. Title: Feb 1 11:59 AM (35 of 39)
I want to see all CI majors. That is my criteria. I want CI in the major field. Title: Feb 1 11:59 AM (36 of 39)
Title: Feb 1 12:00 PM (37 of 39) I enter CI on the criteria line under Major.
The diagram is a logic flowchart showing a decision. I ask the question. If I get a Y (yes), I display the record of the CI major. If I get a N (no), I do not display the record I do nothing. Title: Feb 1 12:02 PM (38 of 39)
This shows two questions in an AND relationship. Both have to be true to display the line. Both are shown on the criteria line under the appropriate columns. Title: Feb 1 12:05 PM (39 of 39)
