Report Generation Wizard 1 After analyzing a part design, you can use a template to create an HTML report that is based on the analysis findings. The report template defines the layout and structure of the final report, and any information that you want to include. When you have selected a report template, you can add all the required information and create the report. Report Sections Before you generate an HTML report, consider which template you want to use for the report. You can choose to use the default report template, or choose to use a different template. The sections that you include in a report, and the selected template, determine the appearance of the report. Within the structure of the template, you can use the Report Generation Wizard to add the following sections to your report: A cover page, including the project title, your name, the recipient's name, the reviewer's name, company logo, and a cover picture Any blocks of text to be added to the report, including result discussion Static images from the analysis results, such as GIF, JPEG, and BMP files. Animations from the analysis results, such as animated GIF files. Movies from the analysis results, such as AVI format files. NOTE: After the report is generated and checked on an Internet browser, you can send the report to another person. Creating a new report To generate a report, use the Report Generation Wizard to select the study to be reported on, the results to be included, and to specify text, image and layout properties. NOTE: You can create more than one report per project and each report can contain one or more studies. 1 Click (Reports tab > Reports panel > Report Wizard). 1

HTML report templates 4 HTML reports use either the default template, which is supplied, or a user-defined template to specify the layout and content of the report. NOTE: Changing the default HTML report template will also change the default template format for all Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint reports. An HTML report template consists of a set of files controlling the layout and contents of the report. Each file within the template controls a specific aspect of the report. Autodesk has defined a set of custom variables that the Report Generation Wizard automatically replaces with the appropriate data when generating a report. These HTML report template variables are used in a similar way to HTML tags. NOTE: Knowledge of HTML and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is necessary to modify HTML report templates. Creating HTML report templates NOTE: Changing the default HTML report template also changes the Microsoft Word default template. 1 Browse to the location where the application is installed. Change directory to the data\html directory. Examples: English: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\<product_and_version>\data\html\ German: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\<product_and_version>\data\html\deu French: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\<product_and_version>\data\html\fra 2 Copy the default_template directory and paste it into the data\html directory. This creates a Copy of default_template directory. 3 Rename the new directory to be the name of your template. For example: my_template 4 Change directory to the new directory. 13

5 Edit the HTML template files and Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) files in this directory using an HTML editor until the desired layout is achieved. HTML report template files also use HTML report template variables to include information from your project and to structure reports. 6 You can select your new template from the Standard template drop-down list on the Report Layout page of the Report Generation Wizard. HTML report template variables The variables for the HTML report templates can only be used in the appropriate template files. HTML report template variables are used in a similar way to HTML tags. Unlike HTML tags they do not need to be enclosed in angle brackets (< >), although they can be used as attribute values. For example, MFTAG:IMAGEFILE: can be included in the SRC attribute of the <IMG> HTML tag: <IMG SRC="MFTAG:IMAGEFILE:">. The HTML report template variables and their functions are listed in the following table. Variable MFTAG:ITEMNUMBER: MFTAG:ITEMNAME: MFTAG:TOC: MFTAG:ITEMS: MFTAG:ITEMIMAGE: MFTAG:ITEMANIM: MFTAG:ITEMTEXT: MFTAG:IMAGEFILE: MFTAG:ANIMFILE: MFTAG:TEXTFILE: MFTAG:COVERPAGE: MFTAG:COMPANYLOGO: Function The item number, starting at zero, typically used in <A> links The item name, such as My study: Fill time Defines the entire table of contents instead of defining a single line within the table of contents The items within the report; defines the position of the spooled report items A single image A single report animation A single descriptive text section A single image file name A single animation file name A single text block The location of the cover page The company logo specified in the Cover page properties dialog 14 HTML report templates

File type association 5 In addition to the HTML format, project reports can be generated to be viewed in Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (PPT) and Microsoft Word document (DOC) formats. Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word must be installed to generate project reports in PPT and DOC formats. It is recommended that you associate the AVI animation file format with the default Microsoft program that is provided for viewing these files. If this file type is associated with other programs, animations that are embedded in reports in PPT and DOC formats may not display properly when the reports are viewed using Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Word. Affected systems and applications All Windows systems are affected by these required file type association settings. Reports can be viewed by using the correct PowerPoint or Word program in the Microsoft Office 97 suite or later versions. Required settings The file type associations are set in the Control Panel on Windows systems. Changing the file type associations as described restores Windows default behavior and file type associations, which other graphic programs might have overridden. Changing these file type association settings should not cause problems when using any other programs. The *.avi animation file type should be associated with Windows Media Player. Setting File type associations This example details how to check and change the file type association for animations (*.avi) on Windows. NOTE: It is recommended that you close all programs before proceeding. 1 Using Windows Explorer, locate a file with the *.avi extension. 2 Right-click on the file, then select Open With. If another program is associated with the *.avi extension, select Open With > Choose Program. 17

3 Select Windows Media Player from the Programs list. Ensure that the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file checkbox is selected. 4 Click OK to change the file type association and return to Windows Explorer. 18 File type association

AVI animation files 6 Audio Video Interleave (AVI) is a special case of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF) and is the most commonly used format for audio and video data for PCs. An AVI format file can be compressed or uncompressed, and used as a movie file. AVI movie files come in many different formats and use a specific compressed format contained within an application extension called a codec (coder/decoder). The files can be compressed or uncompressed with any one of hundreds of codecs. You can use any codec installed on your machine. The Report Wizard enables you to create an AVI movie by using the more common codecs or compressors. What compressors to use The video data in an AVI file can be formatted and compressed in a variety of ways. Most users will find they have at least one of the standard Microsoft codecs installed on their machine, for example, Microsoft supply Microsoft Video 1. Alternatively, if you do not have a default codec to view AVI Report files, you can download it from the Microsoft Download Center. When a new codec is downloaded and installed, it will automatically be available for selection in the Select compressor dialog, which appears when an AVI file is created. Editing AVI capture options Within the Options dialog, you can set the AVI options to always use a default specific AVI compressor (codecs), and other general AVI options. Once you have set these options, you no longer need to constantly set the compression format every time you create an AVI movie in a report. 1 Click then Options. The Options dialog appears. 2 Click the Reports tab. 3 Click Set AVI Options. The Select Compressor dialog appears, allowing you to set the default compressor properties. 4 Select the required compressor in the drop-down list. 5 Specify the Compression quality using the slider beneath the drop-down list. 6 If required, click Configure and make any changes. 19

7 Click OK to save all of your changes, and then close all open dialogs. Adding an animation while creating a report When you are creating a new report, the Report Generation Wizard steps you through the report generation process and allow you to add animations. To add an animation while creating a report, you must be in the process of creating a report using the Report Generation Wizard. An animation or AVI displays how simulation properties vary over time. You can add an existing animation or AVI to a report, or create one based on an analysis result. Depending on the report format, the Report Generation Wizard generates the animation in animated GIF or AVI format. AVI movie files come in many different formats and use a specific codec format. These can be compressed or completely uncompressed with any one of hundreds of codecs (examples: DivX, MPEG-4v2, Indeo 3.2, I263, Cinepak etc.). The Report Generation Wizard allows you to create an AVI using the more commonly used codecs (compressors). NOTE: PowerPoint or Word reports can create only AVI animations. HTML reports can create GIF or AVI animations. NOTE: To view an animation in PowerPoint or Word report, double-click the animation to see it play. 1 On page 3 of the Report Generation Wizard dialog, from the Report items box, select the result you would like to animate. 2 Select the Animation box in the Item details area if it is not already active. 3 Click Properties next to the Animation check box. The Animation Properties dialog appears. 4 Click the Animation format drop-down arrow, and select AVI movie from the list. Click OK. 5 Click Generate. If a default compression format has not been set, the Select Compressor dialog appears, prompting you to select a compression format. NOTE: A default compression format can be set from the Options > Reports tab button. The AVI has been created. NOTE: You must have Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word installed to create project reports in *.ppt and *.doc formats, respectively. To view the files, ensure the associated image and animation file types are set to open with the appropriate Microsoft programs by default. 20 AVI animation files
