Overview Overview winsight Dashboard Components winsight Dashboard 6.5 works seamlessly with Microsoft SharePoint to provide an integrated web-based portal, delivering customized winsight objects to program stakeholders in a digital dashboard environment. Never before has it been so easy for end users to look at project performance content that is specific to their needs. Dashboard is the collective term used throughout this User Guide for three components: winsight Web Parts, winsight Web Services, and winsight Web. winsight Web Parts is the presentation layer that shows winsight components (sort windows, charts, and reports) in SharePoint. The typical application is to place winsight Web Parts on a web part page in SharePoint, although the web parts can also be used wherever a web part zone is located, such as a team meeting workspace. winsight Web Services is the communication layer that acts as an transport to deliver winsight data to web parts or any other application desiring XML data exchange. In the SharePoint environment, Web Services renders data in the SharePoint web part page, communicating over the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). The interface to winsight Web Services is described by its Web Service Description Language (WSDL), an XML document that specifies the location and operations coming from the Web Parts. These services are published with the Universal Discovery Description and Integration (UDDI) protocol and enable the Web Parts to look up and find the winsight Web Services. winsight Server Side Components generate the business logic for the winsight Web parts. These components provide the intelligence behind the tables, fields and other information in the winsight database in order to generate the required Web Part request. These server side components are needed by winsight Web Services for the generation of the Web Parts and are provided during the installation of winsight Web. The ASP pages in winsight Web are not mandatory, just application files. User Guide 1

Overview Configuration File The Web Services layer is driven based on the contents of the APP.Config file, which you can customize for certain settings, including the location of the winsight database, security credentials, wscustom.xml file, and other parameters. From those settings, it communicates via XML across the network and the winsight Server Side Components. Since Web Services supports the winsight security model, only authorized users have access to the database. These Web Services also interact with the winsight source database, thus providing real time data feeds that are rendered in the SharePoint web parts. winsight Dashboard Advantages SharePoint is an integrated collection of web pages and sites used to connect team members and systems. SharePoint contains a collection of templates to facilitate collaboration and information sharing on the web. End users, even those with no programming skills, can easily create web pages to serve as an integrated project dashboard. The winsight Web Parts can be embedded on a team dashboard along with non-winsight data, such as calendars, action item tracking, discussion threads, and document lists, to create a one-stop shop for project team members. There are many advantages to using the winsight Web Parts in a Digital Dashboard environment: Ease of Use You can drag and drop winsight Web Parts into different zones on a web page. No programming skills are required, just basic internet navigation skills. Web pages with the web parts can be modified directly in SharePoint or in SharePoint Designer. Highly Customizable winsight Web Parts are designed to interact with each other. Therefore, you can customize an unlimited amount of page layouts to meet the needs of an enterprise, program, team, and/or individual. Neutral Platform SharePoint allows a neutral platform to integrate winsight objects, legacy systems, and third-party applications into a single Digital Dashboard. Distributed Computing You can access SharePoint over the web via the HTTP(s) protocol, allowing you to view the winsight Web Parts within the intranet or outside company firewalls. This allows other contractors, customers, oversight agencies, or team members to collaborate and analyze data collectively. Real Time Data The winsight Web Parts interact with the winsight Web Services layer, which, in turn, accesses the winsight source database, thus providing real time data feeds to the end user. Turn Key Solutions You can set up a Digital Dashboard environment quickly and efficiently with the winsight Web Parts into Windows SharePoint Services. This allows your organizations to get up and running with minimal time and costs, with the option to develop portlets directly into other Portal Technologies. SharePoint Collaboration Features SharePoint is rich with collaboration and document tracking utilities such as action item tracking, discussion threads, calendars, document storages, customizable lists, and so on. Adding these utilities to the power and flexibility of the winsight Web Parts can create a robust environment to manage projects and enterprises. Secure winsight Web Parts are based on the winsight security model, which can restrict users to view only certain contracts within a database and even certain elements within a contract. SharePoint s security model is based on Windows Authentication, which not only provides single sign on to pages, but can limit which Windows users can access sites within SharePoint. User Guide 2

Overview Use winsight Dashboard to share information among geographically dispersed teams, or host it on an Intranet. You can set up and configure an unlimited number of pages, including pages designed for an executive, project manager, analyst, control account manager (CAM), customer, or contractor, or designed to host a meeting. See Examples of Dashboard Pages on page 117 for samples and instructions. From the team leader s desktop to the corporate boardroom, from the program office to the Pentagon, winsight has become the tool of choice for integrated project management assessment and reporting. winsight Dashboard adds the ability to gather and provide project performance data and analysis in real time for project team members and customers around the globe. Conventions in this Guide This guide has been created specifically for end users. Step-by-step procedures are shown throughout this guide in numbered lists. This guide also provides numerous examples. Bold text highlights specific commands or named web parts as appropriate. Notes, see also references, and warnings are highlighted in grey text boxes: We use these boxes for notes and tips. We use these boxes for see also references to chapters within this guide, or to other documentation. We use these boxes for warnings. Chapters in this Guide Chapter 1, winsight Dashboard Pre-requisites, is intended for your firm s database administrator, to ensure that the appropriate software and support files are properly installed. If you are new to Microsoft SharePoint and winsight Dashboard, you should read Chapter 2, winsight Dashboard Basics, to learn about web parts and how to navigate through the different views and modes. Chapter 3, Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint, explains how to create a Dashboard page. The instructions in this chapter guide you in building a sample page called Program Manager. Screen shots of the page design are included so that you can check the settings as you build the page. After you master building a simple, non-integrated page, review Chapter 4, Web Parts Fixed, List, and Interactive, and then continue with Chapter 5, Making the Web Parts Interactive. This chapter describes how the web parts can be integrated and shows you how to update your Program Manager page web parts to interact with one another. Each web part is described in detail in Chapter 6, Library of Web Parts Considerations for design and sample pages are included in Chapter 7, Considerations for Dashboard Design. User Guide 3

Chapter 1: winsight Dashboard Pre-requisites Chapter 1: winsight Dashboard Pre-requisites Software Installation The following software must be installed prior to following any of the procedures in this guide. The components must be installed in the sequence in which they are listed: winsight Web winsight Web Services winsight Web Parts See the Deltek winsight Dashboard 6.5 Installation Guide for installation instructions. Selection of Data Source winsight Dashboard accesses the project database in real time through Web Services. You specify the location of this database during the installation process. See the Deltek winsight Dashboard 6.5 Installation Guide to learn how to specify the data source. Location of Databases How to Handle Multiple Databases When deploying winsight in a larger enterprise environment, it may not always be practical to consolidate to a centralized database. There are several considerations and solutions regarding multiple databases that you should consider. For example, you may need to consider multiple work sites, IT support, and management access to the entire enterprise. Certain planning and considerations must be taken into account in order to achieve the right solution for your enterprise. Other considerations include whether you have Sites and SubSites, page layouts, security access. and Internal IT policies. Having a well-thought-out plan before deployment is like having a good foundation before building a house. You do not want to restart from scratch because you overlooked a key consideration and/or condition before deployment. Some questions to consider include: Do you have a centralized database model (one consolidated database)? Solution: Deploy a single Web Service and SharePoint. Do you have more than one database? Solution: Deploy multiple Web Services, one for each database that you need to access. User Guide 4

Chapter 1: winsight Dashboard Pre-requisites If you have a decentralized winsight Web Service model, then you must decide whether to go with a centralized or decentralized SharePoint deployment. Considerations include: Does every site/location have its own SharePoint service? Does management want to see program data consolidated on a single page? How many users will be accessing the SharePoint services? Multiple winsight Web Services If your firm decides to maintain the data in separate databases, you need to install and configure a separate winsight Web Services instance for each winsight database. These instances can reside on the same server or be split up throughout different servers within a server farm. To ensure that you have functional transport working for each instance, Deltek recommends that you test each instance separately first with a sample database to ensure consistency and operation. Each Web Service instance will have its own APP.config file to be configured. See the Deltek winsight Dashboard 6.5 Installation Guide for guidance on configuring APP.config. Location of winsight Custom Files winsight Custom Items File: wscustom The winsight custom items file has a default name of wscustom.xml. This xml file is generated from winsight desktop and contains the customized settings for views, filters, and charts for that specific desktop installation. It also contains links to standard and custom reports. While the real time customized settings for winsight are maintained in the desktop s registry key settings for the software, the wscustom.xml file is a snapshot of the customization at a certain point in time. By executing a simple command in winsight desktop, you can save this file and then allow other users to import your custom settings easily. See Transfer Charts, Filters, and Views in the winsight help for details. Saving and sharing wscustom.xml among all users provides your organization with a consistent approach in analyzing performance data. You should designate a person in your organization to develop this standard approach and maintain a single wscustom.xml file. Keep this file in a location known to all winsight Dashboard users so that they will have access to the same range of custom views, filters, charts, and reports. By default, the Web Services looks for the wscustom.xml file in the bin folder, although it can be located elsewhere. You can customize the location in the APP.config file found in the WSWebsvc folder. winsight components can only be customized in winsight desktop, not in winsight Dashboard. User Guide 5

Chapter 1: winsight Dashboard Pre-requisites winsight Reports Both winsight Dashboard and winsight desktop provide a standard set of reports that are available: In the WS Reports List web part in winsight Dashboard On the Reports menu in winsight desktop You can also create a custom report using HTM language and JavaScript, or customize an existing report. winsight reports have a file extension of.htm. For example, rainarr_template.htm is the file name for the AI Narrative report. You must create a link in winsight desktop to a new custom report. These links are stored in wscustom.xml when the wscustom file is generated. The individual who has the organizational responsibility to maintain the wscustom file should also be responsible for maintaining a consistent set of reports for the organization. See Customizing Reports in the winsight desktop online help for details. By default, the Web Services looks for standard and custom reports in the bin folder, located under the winsight Administrator root folder, which itself is under the root folder for WSWebsvc on the server. The location can be customized in the APP.config file located in the WSWebsvc folder. Standard reports and any custom reports must be stored together in the same file location. Multiple Web Services You can have as many Web Services as you need, as this will allow each instance of Web Services to reference a separate wscustom.xml file to customize views, charts, filters, and the links to reports. Each instance of Web Services can therefore have a unique wscustom.xml file and a customized set of reports. For example, you could have a separate instance of Web Services for senior management, with a customized wscustom.xml file that shows only Level 1 reports, and tailored views, charts, and filters. You can also have a single instance of GVcustom.xml per each instance of Web Services in order to customize each Schedule Viewer filter and view. You can customize the location of both wscustom.xml and GVcustom.xml in the APP.config file, found in the WSWebsvc folder. See Deployment in Multiple Program Environment on page 99 for more details about Multiple Web Services. User Guide 6

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics This guide is not a replacement for understanding the basics of SharePoint. Rather, this guide provides instructions on how SharePoint interacts within the confines of winsight Web parts. To expand your knowledge of SharePoint, consult Microsoft s documentation. Navigating the Portal At the top of the SharePoint page breadcrumbs facilitate easy navigation back to the home team site or Shared Documents. Click a breadcrumb, such as Shared Documents, to navigate to the location you want. You can also navigate between documents, folders, lists, and other items by clicking the item you want in the navigation pane at the left of the team site. You can sometimes recover a previous version of a page if you make an error in page design. Click the back button at the top of your browser window until you reach the desired version of the page. winsight Web Parts winsight Web Parts are server controls that communicate with winsight Web Services to render winsight objects within a Microsoft SharePoint environment. They can be categorized as content, list, or other parts. Content Parts Content parts show a rendered winsight sort window, chart, report, or schedule. You analyze performance data with these parts. The following chart is an example of the web part WS Chart. User Guide 7

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics List Parts List parts are the companions to content parts, and allow the selection of a different item from a list for a specific content part. For example, you can select a different chart from a chart list, and the chart content part will change to show the new chart. Other Parts Other parts include a login web part and a data web part. The login web part establishes the link between the page and the underlying winsight database. You can use the data web part to establish a link to other non winsight lists or documents on the portal. Web Parts and Web Part Pages You can add winsight web parts to a web part zone in SharePoint Sites, Workspaces, My Sites, or Web Part Pages. The typical application is to use web part pages. Deltek recommends saving these pages in a folder on the team site for easy access by the team. In the example below, this folder is called Shared Documents. User Guide 8

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Templates for Web Part Pages SharePoint provides eight templates for web part pages. Each template provides a different arrangement of web part zones. You can further edit the web zones in these templates or create your own template in SharePoint Designer. You select the different winsight web parts in the virtual server gallery and then drop them into web part zones on a page to create the desired layout. You must add a winsight Web Part to a web part zone. Each zone is indicated by a yellow header field with the notice Add a web part. The possibilities are unlimited for creating and customizing a page. You can establish a page for the project team or a page for each functional role, such as project manager, control account manager, analyst, or executive. Every member of the team can access these pages in Shared View, which is a view common to all members. Users also have control to design their own pages and layouts in Personal View, which is viewable only by the specific, currently logged-in user. Web Part Integration You can integrate winsight Web Parts so that selecting an element on the sort window updates a chart or report to show data for the selected element. For example, when you select a different WBS element in the WS Sort web part, any chart or report that is integrated with WS Sort will then update automatically to show data for the new element. You can also integrate a content web part and its companion list part, so that the content web part is updated automatically. For example, you can select a different report on the report list part, and the report web part will be updated to show the new report. See Making the Web Parts Interactive on page 40 for details on integrating the parts. You can also mimic the full integration of winsight desktop, if all web parts are integrated with each other. User Guide 9

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics See Full Integration Mimic winsight Desktop on page 48 for details. You also have the option to not integrate any parts. For example, you may want to design and publish a page for an executive at your firm such that the page always shows a single chart or report of interest to that executive. When you design a page without integration, the page looks cleaner because it does not contain any lists. This may make it easier for the executive to check performance quickly, in the same manner, month after month. Changing the Active Element The active element is defined as the selected element in either the WS Sort or WS Drill Down Sort web part. Any content web part that is integrated to either of these sort windows will be updated to the new element when a different element is selected on the sort window. For example, if you select the Project Management element on WS Sort, then the chart or report is updated to Project Management. To select the active element, complete the following steps: 1. Display WS Sort or WS Drill Down Sort. When you first open a page with either type of sort window, the default active element is the Level 1 element. 2. Click the number or the name of the element in the sort window. When you let the cursor hover over the element number or name (in blue font), it becomes underlined. This indicates that you can click the element to make it the active element. The active element is then designated by bold font. When only the Description field (ElemDesc) displays, you change the active element by clicking a name in that column. When the Number field (WbsNum) displays, with or without the Description field, you change the active element by clicking the number instead. User Guide 10

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Modes The following modes are available in winsight Dashboard: Display Mode This mode shows the arrangement of the web parts and allows you to select different items on lists. For example, you can select a different chart while in Display Mode. Design Mode In this mode, you can edit certain settings for the web parts. For example, you can change the size dimensions of a chart. You can also make the web parts interactive. For example, you can make the chart list interactive with the chart, so that a different chart displays when you select a chart on the list. You can close a web part so that it does not display. You also see the front end of the web part and can select an item from a list. Edit Page Mode In this mode, you can add, close, or minimize a web part. You can also select a different item on any list or change the appearance of the web part. Views Shared View When you first open or create a Dashboard page, you are in Shared View. This is the view available to anyone who has access to the team site. If you add, delete, or modify web parts while in Shared View, you affect how the Dashboard is viewed by everyone. Deltek recommends that only the site owner or designer access and modify the Shared View. Personal View After you open or create a page, you should then switch to Personal View, which is tied to your personal login information. In Personal View, you can add, delete, or modify web parts but only you can see the modified page. You can always restore a Personal View to the Shared View settings. Most individuals should only access their Personal View of pages. See Changing to Personal View on page 19 for details on changing the view. If a Shared View has been updated, it does not automatically update the Personal View. You must select Reset Page Content on the Site Actions drop-down menu in Personal View. This resets your Personal View to the Shared View. Deltek strongly recommends that all users change to Personal View. If more than one user tries to access and edit the Shared View for a specific page, the results may be unreliable. Comparing Views and Modes The following table summarizes what you can do in the different views and modes. Notice there are six possible combinations. User Guide 11

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics The URL is not always a reliable indicator for determining whether you are in Shared View or Personal View. Instead, look for either the presence or absence of the notice that you are in shared view. It is also possible to be in two modes at once: Design and Edit Page modes. You can enter Design mode first and then enter Edit Page mode, in which case you see both the yellow zone boxes (Edit mode) and pink dashed lines (Design mode). Deltek recommends that you enter each mode separately. Use Design mode for editing the configuration of the web parts Use Edit Page mode to insert new web parts. SharePoint may refer to either Shared View or Shared Mode, but both terms refer to the same state. For consistency, this guide refers to this state as Shared View. Example: Shared View, Display Mode Example: Shared View, Design Mode Note the pink, dashed boxes in this example. User Guide 13

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Example: Shared View, Edit Page Mode Note the yellow web part zone boxes in this example. Example: Personal View, Display Mode Example: Personal View, Design Mode User Guide 14

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Example: Personal View, Edit Page Mode Changing to Design Mode in Shared View To change to design mode while in Shared View, complete the following step: 1. In the URL field at the top of the browser, after aspx, enter?dmode=1. If there is any text after aspx, overwrite it. Changing to Display Mode in Shared View To change to display mode while in Shared View, complete the following step: 1. In the URL field at the top of the browser, after aspx, enter?dmode=0. If there is any text after aspx, overwrite it. User Guide 15

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Edit Page Mode To enter Edit Page Mode, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Site Actions drop-down menu. 2. Click Edit Page. 3. Add, delete, or minimize web parts as needed. See Add Web Parts on page 27 for instructions on adding web parts. Customizing the Appearance of the Page in Edit Page Mode To customize the appearance of the page, complete the following steps: 1. Click the edit drop-down arrow at the top right corner of the web part in Edit Page mode. 2. Click Modify Shared Web Part (if in Personal View, click Modify My Web Part). A dialog box opens at the right of the screen. 3. Change the title of the web part or appearance settings as desired. Chrome state refers to the appearance of the borders. For example, you can set the chrome state to border only, which will draw a border around the web part and not show the name of the web part. You will see a dotted orange border around the affected web part when you open the Modify Web Part dialog box. User Guide 16

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics 4. Click OK to close the dialog box, or click Apply to apply the change and leave the dialog box open. You can also customize the appearance in Display or Design mode with this procedure. The example below shows a page in Personal View, with the chrome state for each web part set to border only. The WS Filter List web part was also customized to have a fixed height so that the WS Report List would line up with the WS Report. Note the clean look of the page. User Guide 17

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Exiting Edit Page Mode To leave Edit Page Mode, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Site Actions drop-down menu. 2. Select Exit Edit Mode. User Guide 18

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Changing to Personal View To change to Personal View, Display Mode, complete the following steps: 1. In the top right corner, click Welcome your name. 2. On the drop-down menu, click Show Personal View. 3. If your page is in Design Mode, change dmode=1 to dmode=0 in the URL. Notice that?pageview=personal has been added to the URL: Notice the absence of any warning that you are in Shared View. You cannot enter Personal View/Design Mode by navigating on the Welcome menu. See Changing Views and Modes Directly in the URL on page 21 for information. User Guide 19

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics To change to Personal View, Edit Page Mode, complete the following steps: 1. In the top right corner, click Welcome your name. 2. On the drop-down menu, click Personalize this Page. 3. You are now in Edit Page mode, and can add or delete web parts to your personal view. Resetting the Personal View You can reset the personal view back to the shared view, which resets all web parts to the configuration and layout in the shared view (default values). To reset Personal View back to Shared View, complete the following steps: 1. In the top right corner, click Welcome your name. 2. On the drop-down menu, click Reset Page Content. User Guide 20

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Changing to Shared View To change to Shared View, complete the following steps: 1. If you are in Edit Mode, click Exit Edit Mode. 2. In the top right corner, click Welcome your name. 3. On the drop-down menu, click Show Shared View. Changing Views and Modes Directly in the URL Sometimes clicking an item on the Welcome drop-down menu or an item on the Site Actions dropdown menu may not result in the view or mode that you expected. It is better to enter the appropriate terms in the URL field. You can always get to the mode and view that you desire by entering these parameters in the URL after aspx. You should overwrite any text after aspx. User Guide 21

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics Mode/View Design mode View mode Shared view Personal view Parameter &dmode=1 &dmode=0 &PageView=Shared &PageView=Personal Combine the commands for the mode and view. For example, to go into design mode for your personal view, enter?dmode=1&pageview=personal. The order of the two parameters does not matter; entering?pageview=personal&dmode=1 gives you the same result. To enter Edit Page Mode, click the Site Actions drop-down menu and select Edit Page. To leave Edit Page Mode, click Exit Edit Mode. Recommended Navigation for Modes and Views The following table summarizes the recommended method to navigate to modes and views. Recommended Navigation View Mode Enter in URL Site Action/ Edit Page Shared View Display Mode aspx?dmode=0&pageview=shared Design Mode aspx?dmode=1&pageview=shared Edit Page x Personal View Display Mode aspx?dmode=0&pageview=personal Design Mode aspx?dmode=1&pageview=personal Edit Page x Shared vs. Personal View as Default When you first create a web part page, you will be in Shared View. If you close the page at this point and later re-open the page, it will still be in Shared View. However, after you apply the Personal View, the page will always open in Personal View, regardless of whether you personalized the page or not. This still holds true even if you switch to Shared View and then close it in Shared View. The team site administrator can take advantage of this when setting up an individual s account. Switch over to Personal View on each page, and the individual will automatically see their Personal View when opening a page. User Guide 22

Chapter 2: winsight Dashboard Basics If you are the administrator, you may want to create two versions of the same page: one in Shared View and one in Personal View. See Site Templates and Archiving, Saving a Web Part Page on page 104 for more information on saving a page with a different name. Last Mode Applied When Opening a Page When you open a page, it opens in the mode that it was last accessed and then closed. For example, if someone left a page in Design mode, then the page will re-open in Design mode. Note that the URL may not indicate the type of mode. In order to get it back to Display mode, you will need to enter?dmode=0 in the URL. When you close a page, always leave it in Display mode. User Guide 23

Chapter 3: Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint Chapter 3: Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint To create a new dashboard in SharePoint, you will use the following procedures: Step 1: Create a New Web Part Page Step 2: Add Web Parts Step 3: Add Web Services (WS) Login to the Header Step 4: Add Other Web Parts to the Header Step 5: Add Web Parts to the Body Step 6: Add Non-wInsight Web Parts Step 7: Move Web Parts Step 8: Close, Delete, or Minimize Web Parts Step 1: Create a New Web Part Page To create a new web part page, complete the following steps: 1. The web address for the team website will be the first block after or Be sure to update the web address for your team site before you add other web parts. As you add other web parts, the Web Services URL Base will be updated automatically for each web part. If you do not update this web address first, you may see the message An unexpected error occurred. If this happens, you cannot reset the page; your only option is to delete the dashboard page and start over. 5. If user security is established in winsight Administrator, User Name and Password fields display when you first add the WS Login web part. You leave these fields blank because the security credentials are automatically passed from Administrator. The user must enter these credentials when accessing winsight Dashboard. You can also establish user security in Administrator to use the Windows authentication automatically for each user. User Guide 30

Chapter 3: Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint WS Login Definition and Application The WS Login part is used to authenticate the user s access to the winsight database. 41 Chapter 3: Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint Step 6: Add Non-wInsight Web Parts The capability to add additional parts to a winsight dashboard greatly enhances the utility of the dashboard for the project team. The following items are available: Announcements Calendar Links Shared Documents Tasks Team Discussion This procedure continues with the Program Manager example. To add non-winsight Web Parts, complete the following steps: 1. Click Add a Web Part in the left column. 2. Under Lists and Libraries, select Tasks. 3. Click Add a Web Part again to add Announcements. 4. Click Add a Web Part again to add a Calendar. Note that as you add web parts, the newest web part displays at the top of the zone. Step 7: Move Web Parts You can move web parts in the following ways: Move within a zone Click and drag the yellow header for a web part to a different location within the zone. The cursor changes to two crossed, double-sided arrows. As you drag the header, an orange line displays where the web part can be dropped. Move to a different zone Click and drag the yellow header for a web part to a different zone and drop it where you see the orange line. It will be easier to rearrange parts if you minimize them. See Step 8, below. User Guide 36

Chapter 3: Creating a New Dashboard in SharePoint Step 8: Close, Delete, or Minimize Web Parts To close, delete, or minimize web parts, complete the following steps: 1. Click edit at the top right corner of the web part. Select Close, Delete, or Minimize. Close means that the web part still exists, but does not display on the page. Delete removes a web part completely from the page. Minimize means that only the title of the web part displays. You can also close or minimize (but not delete) a part while in Display Mode. To minimize all web parts, click Edit in the top right corner of each web part. 2. To restore and edit the web part, click edit and then click Restore. Remember to Restore the web part prior to exiting the Edit Page mode. User Guide 37

Chapter 4: Web Parts Fixed, List, and Interactive Chapter 4: Web Parts Fixed, List, and Interactive As you build and design the dashboard, you need to decide if you want the various web parts to be fixed, listed, or interactive. Fixed You cannot change the item in Display mode. List You can select an item from a list in Display mode. Interactive You can select a different item on one list web part which changes a different web part. If the web parts are set up as interactive, then selecting an item on a web part list affects all the integrated parts. For example, selecting a different reporting period updates the Sort window, chart, report, and so on to the same reporting period. For example, you may want to show a particular chart that is always fixed. At other times, you may instead want to allow end users to select a chart from an interactive list. You may even want to have a mix of fixed and interactive web parts on the same dashboard. You may find it helpful to think of a list web part and a content web part as a pair. For example, you can insert the WS Chart web part and the corresponding WS Chart List web part, and then make them interactive. In order for a list selection to change a content web part such as a chart or report, the list must be interactive. See How the Web Parts Interact on page 40. Testing for Interaction This procedure continues with the Program Manager example. To test for interaction, complete the following steps: 1. Restore all web parts. To do this, click the edit drop-down arrow at the top right corner of each web part and select Restore. 2. From the drop-down list for the Chart field, select any chart. 3. Click the blue button marked GO. 4. Click Exit Edit Mode at the top right of the page to leave edit mode. 5. Enter?dmode=0&PageView=Shared in the URL. You are now in the Display mode, which is the mode that will be seen by end users of the dashboard when they access your dashboard. In our program manager example, we have not yet made any web parts interactive with one another. 6. Click the Contract list at the top and select a different contract from your database. Notice that none of the data in the sort window changed. User Guide 38

Chapter 4: Web Parts Fixed, List, and Interactive Alternatively, if you only have one contract in your database, select a different reporting period from the Period field or a different structure, such as OBS (Organization Breakdown Structure), in the Structure field. Notice that none of the data in the sort window changed. 7. Change the active element. To do this, scroll down to the Sort window. Then, depending on the view that has been applied, you can change the active element by either selecting the WBS number or name. When you let the cursor hover over the WBS number or name, it changes to underlined. This indicates that you can click the WBS number or name to make it the active element. The active element is then designated by bold font. Scroll down to the chart. Did it change to the active element? You should see that it did not update to reflect the new element or the new contract because you have not yet made the chart interactive. In the desktop version of winsight, changing the active element to a different element updates all open charts and reports. Since this is a very valuable feature (and helps avoid confusion), it is recommended that the Sort window be made interactive with charts and reports. See next section. User Guide 39

Chapter 5: Making the Web Parts Interactive Chapter 5: Making the Web Parts Interactive Types of winsight Web Parts There are three types of winsight web parts: Content, List, and Other. Type Description Web Parts Content List Other The six content winsight web parts are the main web parts for analyzing project performance. The parameters for these content parts can be fixed or they can be interactive with other web parts. For example, you can make WS Chart fixed, so that you will always see the same chart, or you can make it interact with WS Chart List. You can use WS Sort, WS Drill Down Sort, and WS Login to define several session variables to interact with other web parts, which are described in this chapter. For example, you can define a variable in WS Sort so that selecting a different reporting element updates a chart or report. Use list web parts to select from a list of items. In all cases, you must make the list part interactive so that it changes the related web parts. For example, you should make the WS Chart list interactive so that you when you select a different chart on the list, the WS Chart web part also changes. You define the variables here that cause the web parts to be interactive with each other. These variables are called session variables. WS Login Use this web part to authenticate a user s security information in order to access the winsight database. This part uses the security settings in winsight Administrator that allows a user to see certain contracts and/or elements. WS Data Use this web part to filter other SharePoint features, such as document storage and lists, to a specific data element. WS Chart WS Drill Down Sort WS Narrative WS Report WS Schedule Viewer WS Sort WS Chart List WS Contract List WS Filter List WS Period List WS Report List WS Structure List WS Unit List WS View List WS Login WS Data User Guide 40

Chapter 5: Making the Web Parts Interactive How the Web Parts Interact To make web parts interactive, complete the following steps: 1. Enter a name for the session variable in the primary web part. 2. Enter the same session variable name in the receiving web part. This is also referred to as passing the variable from one web part to another. Primary Locations for Session Variables The following table shows where you first set each session variable. Primary Location for Defining Session Variable Type winsight Web Part Session Variable List WS Contract List Contract WS Period List WS Structure List WS Unit List WS Filter List WS View List WS Chart List WS Report List Period Structure Unit Filter View Chart Report Content WS Sort Element Sort Window WS Drill Down Sort Element Sort Window Other WS Login Login Part ID Names of Session Variables The name for the variable can be anything; however, it must be consistent from one web part to another. For example, you cannot define the Element Session as ce_id in the WS Sort part, and then define the Element Session as element in a different part The following table shows recommended names for each session variable. Choosing a related word such as chart for the Chart Session variable will make it easier to enter the same name in the receiving web parts. User Guide 41

For example, if you have more than two WS Chart Lists and two WS Charts, create the names chart1 and chart2. If you have both types of sort windows (WS Sort and WS Drill Down Sort), you should distinguish between the parts by including a number in the name for each session variable. For example, in WS Sort, enter element1 in Element Session. Enter element2 in WS Drill Down Sort. User Guide 42

Chapter 5: Making the Web Parts Interactive 3. Enter the same name in the session variable field for the receiving web part. To do this, locate the web part(s) that will be receiving the session variable. Then enter the same name for the variable in the session variable field. Set primary Session Variable Set receiving Session Variable Make variable interactive 4. Change the variable to [Interactive] in the receiving web part in the drop-down field for the variable. 5. Click the blue field marked GO. In the example in step 3 (above), the WS Sort web part established the primary variable for Element Session. The receiving web part, WS Chart, was set to [Interactive] and Element Session received the same variable. Example 1: Make Active Element Interact with the Chart For example, you may want to make the active element in the WS Sort window interact with and change the chart to reflect the active element. To make the active element in the WS Sort window interact with the chart to reflect the active element, complete the following steps: 1. Enter the Element Session variable in the WS Sort part. This is the primary web part that defines the session variable. 2. Enter the same variable in the Element Session field (the receiving variable) in the WS Chart part. 3. Set the element field to [Interactive] in the WS Chart part. Click the blue GO button in the WS Chart field. 4. Click any blue GO button to update all web parts. 5. Test the integration by changing the primary variable in the web part with the primary session variable. For example, select a different active element in the Sort window by clicking the element name or number. The receiving web part, in this case WS Chart, should update to the new element. To save time, press TAB on your keyboard to move between the session variable fields. Once you are in the session variable field, press the up arrows on your keyboard to change the selection to Interactive. Press TAB again to move to the next field. Inserting List Parts List parts are counterparts to the content web parts. Use a list part to select a different view for the sort window, a different chart, a different report, and so on. For this to happen, you must set the list part to interactive and enter the same session variable in the list part and the content part. If a list part is not set to interactive and session variables are not entered in the list part and corresponding content part, selecting a different item on the list will have no impact. Program Manager Example In the Program Manager example described above, you made the parts interactive. If you selected a different contract, period, structure, or element, the sort window and chart are updated. However, the current page is limited to the view and chart that were designated in design mode. In order to change either the view or chart in Display mode, you need to insert two new web parts: WS Chart List and WS View List. These are the companions to the content parts, WS Chart and WS Sort. To insert the new web parts, complete the following steps: 1. Click the Site Actions drop-down list and select Edit Page. 2. Click Add a Web Part in the body. 3. Click Advanced Web Part gallery and options at the bottom of the window. 4. Click Server Gallery. 5. Insert the WS View List web part above the WS Sort web part. 6. Enter view in View Session. 7. 63 Chapter 6: Library of Web Parts Design Mode Notes Web Services URL Base Source This is the Web Service URL address to which this web part points. Login Part ID (Receiving) This is the input session variable that links the WS Chart web part to a WS Login web Part. Sort Window Session (Receiving) This is the input session variable passed from either the WS Sort or WS Drill Down Sort web part. This variable is used to pass all elements from either sort web part. For example, the Aggregate Bull s-eye chart plots all elements shown in the sort web part. The Aggregate Bull s-eye chart does not update to reflect the active element chosen in WS Drill Down Sort. Use WS Sort instead if you wish to show the Aggregate Bull s-eye chart. See the Element session variable for passing of a single element from WS Sort. The web address for the team website is the first block after or Be sure to update the web address for your team site before you add other web parts. As you add other web parts, the Web Services URL Base will be updated automatically for each web part. If you do not update this web address first, you may see the message An unexpected error occurred. If this happens, you cannot reset the page; your only option is to delete the dashboard page and start over. Login Part ID (Primary) Enter a name to establish the session variable. This variable will be passed to all other web parts. Enter 0 if you are only pointing to one database. Add additional WS Login Web Parts to point to additional databases. Enter a unique number (1, 2, 3, and so on) for each Login Part Id. Log In Credentials winsight Dashboard uses the security credentials established in the database with winsight Administrator. If user security has not been enabled in Administrator, any user with access to the SharePoint team site can view the data in Dashboard. If user security has been enabled in Administrator, you see User Name and Password fields when you first add the WS Login part. Leave these blank. When a user opens a dashboard page in Display mode, he or she will be asked for a winsight user name and password. User Guide 96

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Organizing your Project Management Sites Most organizations have more than one active project, so consider your firm s SharePoint site deployment carefully. SharePoint sites are collaborative web sites that are organized in a hierarchy. Each site is composed of a top-level site (parent or root site) and sub-sites (which may have sub sites as well). A group of multiple top-level sites is called a Site Collection. Scenarios and Models Your firm should consider several scenarios and models before deployment: Single Top Level only A top-level site with project data stored in Shared Documents. A typical deployment consists of a single project (top level) and project stakeholder data displayed as pages within that site (Shared Documents). Single Site Collection This model has a single top level and sub sites. The sub sites are used to control access, provide personalization based on user roles, and possibly to manage sub contractors. Multiple Site Collections This model is similar to the Single Top Level model, but each project has its own, separate top level. Temporary or Permanent Projects are temporary, as they have a start and end date. Since some sites are valid just for the life of the project, you can archive the project sites after the project ends. On the other hand, a functional group, such as Finance, is a permanent environment. Other Considerations Other considerations include: Consider designing your decision making and reporting structure by organization/functional structure, whether by business units, department, product lines, or regional organizations. For example, establish a top-level for the business unit, with sub sites for each project that the business unit manages. Plan with growth in mind. Once organizations begin to see the value of project-focused management, expansion in the number of sites will likely occur and your initial investment in planning will pay off. Consider corporate branding and styles. To brand Dashboard pages, you can apply your firm s corporate logo and style to web page templates. Mobile access is critical in today s world by smart phone or other tools; this may be a consideration in your firm s design. User Guide 98

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Deployment in Multiple Program Environment Multiple Data Sources and Multiple Web Services When deploying winsight in a larger enterprise environment that has multiple databases and multiple sites, it may not be practical to consolidate the data for all projects in a centralized database. There may be specific concerns such as access or security, different locations of the data, or perhaps IT policy. This section presents three options: Single database Multiple databases on a single server Multiple databases on multiple servers Single Database If you have a centralized database model, then the solution is a single instance of Web Services and SharePoint. User Guide 99

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Multiple Databases on a Single Server If you have a decentralized database model, then you need a decentralized winsight Web Service model on a single server. This requires that you install multiple winsight Web Services instances that connect to the same number of winsight databases. Each database will require a separate winsight Web Services instance. There can be several advantages with this model: All Web Services will be rendered in a single SharePoint Server. The advantage here is that you can have multiple data sources on a single page in SharePoint. By assigning a WS Login web part to a specific Web Services (a data source), you can have multiple WS Login web parts on the same Dashboard page. Typically, Web Services is the heavy lifter in the process, as it does all the number crunching and processing. By dividing and spreading out the computation load to various Web Services, larger organizations can consolidate smaller projects together but allow each larger contract to have its own Web Services. All data can then be seen in one SharePoint environment. Because of hardware issues, you may have a desktop version of winsight that would limit intranet connectivity and access to multiple databases. At the same time, it is likely that management would like employees to be able to access multiple databases across the enterprise. This solution gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to keep your local database and then add more Web Services to link to all databases in the SharePoint environment. User Guide 100

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Multiple Databases on Multiple Servers If you have a decentralized winsight Web Services model, you need to decide whether to go with a centralized or decentralized SharePoint deployment. In other words, will your firm have multiple servers or have a SharePoint farm? Questions for you to consider include the following: Does each site/location have its own SharePoint service? Does your firm s management want to see program data consolidated on a single page? How many users will be accessing the SharePoint services? Intranet Laptop HTTP Workstations SharePoint Farm XML WS Web Sev A WS Web Sev B WS Web Sev C WS Database A WS Database B WS Database C Consider how to deploy the same or different wscustom.xml files for each Web Services, Sites, and SubSites access. Because winsight Dashboard is licensed by server installation, you can install many WS Web Services on a single server. However, additional licenses are required for another environment/server. A virtual environment is also considered a server. You can address any license issues with a Deltek sales representative. User Guide 101

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Providing Access to Data at the Appropriate Level Every project has different users, who require different information at their fingertips. Your goal is to have the proper level of information, based on the project stakeholders needs. This prevents surprises, duplication of efforts, and lack of overall analysis that could stop key decisions from being made in a timely manner. Knowing which views and requirements the different stakeholders need for solid analysis will assist you greatly as you establish the appropriate levels of information, access, and views. Corporate executives need top-level data for all projects for which they are responsible. Project managers need project-level data and lower-level data across the project. Control account managers need to be able to filter the project data at the lowest level for the control accounts for which they are responsible. Analysts need access to all levels of data to assist the CAMs and PM with analysis, and to provide in-depth comprehensive checks of data validity. See Guidelines for Page Design on page 110 for more information. SharePoint Overview SharePoint empowers users with collaborative tools that integrate seamlessly with the Web, Windows, Office applications, and winsight. We use the term SharePoint in this guide to encompass both Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) SharePoint helps teams stay connected and productive by providing an infrastructure that allows easy access to project-related information. You use it as a toolset for organizing information, managing documents, increasing efficiency of business process, and providing a robust collaborative environment. SharePoint makes it possible for project stakeholders in a project environment to create and manage their own collaborative projects as websites. SharePoint provides a solution for effective management of project-related information that sometimes falls short due to: Local/Personal Storage Project information is stored on the individual s local machine, creating possible delays, denial to access, and possible recovery issues. Network Based Storage Project information stored on networks can still cause access issues, if there are personnel access issues or if personnel have to navigate through too many folders and drives to locate data. Project Management tools Industry tools often have limited collaborative features with other tools and require the use of a multiple tool set to integrate data. User Guide 102

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design SharePoint Access SharePoint Permissions SharePoint is designed to have site level permissions defined by the site owner, who specifies the sites that members can view and the actions that they can take. SharePoint comes with a range of standard member permissions: Full Control A site owner has full control and can add, update, or delete site components, site members, and list web part and content. Design Designers have permission to customize pages (SharePoint Designer), add, update, and delete content. Contributor Users can add, update. and delete web parts. This permission setting is most common for winsight power users. Read A person given read-only access cannot add new web parts. However, the end user can still make entries for any narrative report in the WS Narrative web part. This is the typical permission for the majority of users. SharePoint Groups Whenever a site is created, groups are automatically created by default. It is an easy way to group a specific set of users with the same set of site permissions. The default group types are: Site Owners This group has full control permissions for the site. Site Members This group has Contributor permissions. Site Visitors This group is intended for visitors with read-only permissions. Most users will be in this group. Site Permissions In addition to considerations for user and groups, you can customize permissions for pages and site. For example, if a Program Manager wants to customize and control the look and feel of the program review page, the PM page can be "locked down" by setting it up as read-only. Recommendations: Assign a single Site Owner. Coordinate with your firm s information technology department to select and establish Site Owners. Each site owner should be technically oriented and have a thorough understanding of project management. However, a site owner may or may not be in the program office. Assign a limited number of Designers and Contributors, who are typically power users. They understand the intricacies of winsight as they relate to roles and users. Assign Read permissions to everyone else. Your firm should also establish a communication plan that describes the roles, users, permissions, views, and organization(s) that will be needed, before you create any pages. Deltek also recommends that you avoid tweaking every permission, page, or site, which can take a lot of work to maintain. There is no central view that shows permission on the entire site. User Guide 103

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Incorporating SharePoint into the Corporate Culture Deltek recommends that your firm take advantage of all the features that are offered in SharePoint. In addition to web part pages, you may find project collaboration, document management, workflow, meeting workspaces, and other features useful for your projects. Deltek also recommends that your firm invest in SharePoint resources such as books, training, and consultants to make your environment as efficient and productive as possible. The most critical aspect is getting all the project stakeholders to buy in. Best practices include: Leverage and prove the value of SharePoint by running a small pilot. Compare and contrast its benefits to the process that your firm has been using. Encourage users to learn and use the value that SharePoint can bring. Provide "how-to" videos, provide good reference materials about SharePoint, and encourage training on how to improve project collaborations. Measure and broadcast success. Measure how much time was saved, how much redundant work was eliminated, and other benefits. Gather feedback. Initial phases will not be perfect, but you can seek useful and valuable insight on how to improve future implementation. Site Templates and Archiving After you build and tweak your project management sites, you are ready to make that a template that can be used for other pages or projects. Deltek recommends that you save existing successful sites as templates for other projects. All lists, libraries, layouts, web part pages, and sites can be saved as templates. Once saved, a template can be applied and used as the basis for new pages and sites. Saving a Site as a Template To save a site as a template, complete the following steps: 1. Click Site Actions. 2. Click Site Settings. 3. In the look and feel section, click Save site as template. Applying a Template to a New Site To apply a template to a new site, complete the following steps: 1. Click Site Actions. 2. Click Site and Workspaces. 3. Click the Custom tab in the Select a template field. User Guide 104

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Archiving a Site After a project is complete, you can archive it. To archive a site, complete the following steps: 1. Click Site Actions. 2. Click Site Settings. 3. In the look and feel section, click Save site as template. 4. Select Include Content in the last field. Saving a Web Part Page You can also save a web part page with a different name or to a different location. For example, if you wish to copy and slightly modify a page but leave the original intact, copy the web part page back to the Shared Documents folder or similar location. To save a web part page, complete the following steps: 1. To copy an existing page back to the same list of pages, hover the cursor over the name of the page in the Shared Documents list. 2. Click the arrow at the top right corner. Select Edit in Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer. User Guide 105

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design 3. When the page opens in SharePoint Designer, click File on the menu bar. 4. Click Save As 5. Give the page a new name. Do not change the file location. 6. Close SharePoint Designer. The new file displays on the list of pages in SharePoint. 7. Click the page to open. Note that the header has the old name, even though you saved it with a new file name. 8. Click Site Actions. 9. Click Edit Page. 10. Click Edit Title Bar Properties at the right of the title bar. 11. Enter a new name for the header in the Title field. User Guide 106

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design 12. Click Apply. 13. Click OK. 14. Add or delete web parts as needed. 15. Switch to design mode and customize the web parts as desired. If you save a copy to a different location from within SharePoint Designer, such as a network drive or media, you can share the page as an aspx file with a different operating location. Web Part Page Maintenance You can do maintenance on a web part page, such as changing the file name, deleting the page, managing permissions, checking a page out for editing, or removing troublesome web parts without directly opening the page. To maintain a web part, complete the following steps: 1. Open the Shared Documents folder. 2. Hover the cursor over the name of the web part page and then click the down arrow to the right of the name. User Guide 107

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design 3. Click View Properties. 4. Click Edit Item to change the title, Delete Item, Manage Permissions, or Check Out. 5. To perform maintenance, click Edit Item. Alternatively, click Edit Properties on the main drop-down menu to get to the same screen. User Guide 108

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design 6. Click Open Web Part Page in maintenance view. 7. Select the web part(s) that you want to Close, Reset to default settings, or Delete. Closing a web part on a page means that it is still there but is not shown on the page. Deleting a web part removes it completely from the page. In the example below, the Personal View is shown, but you can switch to Shared View to perform the same tasks. Office SharePoint Designer 2007 Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 is a web editing tool that you can use to create and customize any SharePoint site. Use SharePoint Designer to connect to a SharePoint site and render pages so that WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). You can manipulate components, web part, web part zones (layouts and templates) to best accommodate the roles and user views addressed later in this document. Designer allows "power users" to complete highly skilled functions that in the past required IT professionals. You can customize SharePoint in one of the following ways: SharePoint browser based method This requires familiarity with the intricacies of each function and location of different features in SharePoint. Visual Studio method This allows a full range of customization, but requires significant developer time. SharePoint Designer method This allows customization at a site level greater that the browser but without needing all the tools afforded by Visual Studio. Typically you can achieve about 70% of the customization using the browser, 20% using Designer, and 10% using Visual Studio. User Guide 109

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Some compelling uses of Designer are the following: Customizing the Web Part Zones in the standard templates to provide a layout that is more suited for PM analysis. One example is the Analyst view, where you want customized list parts on top and data on the bottom. Prototyping a solution, layout, look, and feel. Creating customized Workflows. Performing one-off site customizations. Guidelines for Page Design Since you can create any number of Dashboard pages for the team s SharePoint site, Deltek recommends that you spend some time up front on thinking about the different roles and functions of the team members. While you could add every single winsight web part to a dashboard, at some point the dashboard would become too cluttered and hard to navigate. Design Considerations Start the design process by discussing team roles and needs with the project manager and team. For example, you may want to design dashboards specifically for the control account managers, analysts, project manager, and executives. Sample pages for each of these roles are shown in the following section. Some questions to consider: Do we want all web parts to be interactive? Do we want a fixed web part? Do we want to connect to different databases for a portfolio dashboard? Do we want the control account managers to enter narrative information? Do we want more than one chart? More than one report? Do we want non winsight web parts, such as a team calendar, announcements, or tasks? Do we want to filter other non winsight data by element? What would make this the most useful for the team? Hints for Page Design Use the top row in the web part page template to house list parts such as WS Contract, WS Structure, WS Unit, and WS Period. These list parts affect all content parts. Placing these list parts at the top mimics typical office software. Place companion list parts as close as possible to the content web part. For example, place the WS Chart List close to WS Chart. 116 Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Change the width for WS Sort or WS Drill Down Sort to ensure that you can see all the columns of data. Try a width of 650 to 900 pixels, depending on whether there are other parts in a column parallel to the sort window. Consider changing the width and height of all web parts to minimize scrolling within the web part in display mode. Place WS Report at the bottom, and change the height to 900 or more pixels, depending on the length of your report. You may be able to avoid scrolling to see the entire report. Place WS Sort or WS Drill Down Sort in the upper left of the main part of the page, as you need to select an active element on the sort window. Quad Chart Design Select the web part page template Left Column, Header, Footer, Top Row, 3 column to build a quad chart view. 1. Insert the following in the Top Row: WS Contract List WS Period List WS Structure List WS Unit List WS Filter List 2. Ignore the Left Column and the Center Column. 3. Insert WS View List, WS Sort, and a chart or report in the Center Left column. Insert the companion web part for the content part 4. Insert two other charts or reports in the Center Right Column. Insert the companion list parts for each content part. 5. Insert non-winsight web parts, such as Announcements, Calendar, Links, Shared Documents, Tasks, or Team Discussion in a column on the left. WS Login 1. Insert WS Login first when designing a page, and update the Web Services URL Base information to point the page to your database. You can then insert other web parts, and each new web part will automatically be updated to the database location. 2. The default value for the Login Part ID is set at 0. If you include multiple WS Login parts to point to multiple databases, either enter a unique number for each Login Part ID, or enter a descriptive name. You can minimize WS Login. This will hide most of this web part in display mode, as you do not need to select anything or do anything with this web part in display mode. 1. Click Edit in the top right corner in Edit Page mode. 2. Click Minimize. You can also hide WS Login. 1. Click Edit in the top right corner in Display, Design, or Edit Page mode. 2. Click Modify Shared Web Part or Modify My Web Part. 3. Click Hidden under Layout in the modify web part dialog box that opens. User Guide 111

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Using winsight Workspaces to Design Pages You may also wish to adapt an existing custom workspace developed in winsight desktop. The following example shows how a custom workspace in winsight desktop was transformed into a web part page in Dashboard. The same content is included in both. winsight Desktop Custom Workspace winsight Dashboard User Guide 112

Chapter 7: Considerations for Dashboard Design Integration Considerations for Design You should consider whether or not you want to have the web parts integrated during the design phase. If you choose to integrate, you must add certain web parts. For example, if you want to have WS Sort be updated for the contract and period, you need to add the WS Contract List and WS Period List web parts. The following matrix shows how the primary session variable is set in the primary web part, and how it can be set as a receiving session variable in other web parts. 122 Examples of Dashboard Pages Examples of Dashboard Pages This section presents sample pages for the following people: Control Account Manager (CAM) Analyst Project Manager Executive Control Account Manager Page Control Account Manager (CAM) Design Considerations Generally speaking, the CAM needs to be able to isolate his or her assigned elements quickly. CAMs also benefit from a consistent, structured approach to analysis and a set of instructions that lists recommended steps, charts, reports, and so on. Deltek recommends that you customize views, filters, charts, and reports in winsight desktop based on discussion with the CAMs about their needs, and then make these items available through deployment of the wscustom file. Design pages for CAMs that focus on the basics and show them how to toggle between dollars and hours in the views, charts, and reports. See Location of winsight Custom Files on page 5 for details on the wscustom file. The following table provides suggested content web parts for different CAM pages. 132 Examples of Dashboard Pages Analyst Page Analyst Design Considerations The analyst typically needs full access to all web parts in Dashboard, with full integration between the parts. The sample Analyst page shown is modeled after winsight desktop. All web parts are fully integrated, so that the analyst can perform the full range of analysis functions. The analyst can select different contracts, periods, structures, units, filters, views, charts, and reports from the respective list part. The analyst may wish to create more than one page, each focusing on a different aspect such as analyzing past performance, future costs, or data validity. 138 Examples of Dashboard Pages Project Manager Page Project Manager Design Considerations The project manager (PM) needs to see how the overall project is performing, and then quickly drill down to isolate the elements that are not performing well. The PM needs to focus on analyzing past performance and then analyzing projected future performance. The PM also needs to be able to review the status of management reserve and compare this remaining budget to the amount of work remaining. Deltek recommends that you customize views, filters, charts, and reports in winsight desktop based on discussions with the PM about his or her needs, and then make these items available through deployment of the wscustom file. See Location of winsight Custom Files on page 5 for details on the wscustom file. The PM may wish to include other non-winsight web parts on the page, such as a calendar, tasks, announcements, and so on. These are shown in the example below. Once a PM enters data into one of these parts, the data is contained in a common list and can also be shown in other pages when the web part is added. The following table provides suggested content web parts for a Project Manager page. 143 Examples of Dashboard Pages Executive Page Executive Design Considerations The executive needs to see how all projects in his or her portfolio are performing, and then be able to identify the projects that require additional oversight. Deltek recommends that the executive focus on analyzing projects on a management-byexception basis, focusing on those projects that are trending downward or have metrics in the yellow or red zone. Customize views, charts, and reports in winsight desktop based on discussions with the executive about his or her needs, and then make these items available through deployment of the wscustom file. See Location of winsight Custom Files on page 5 for details on the wscustom file. The following table provides suggested content web parts for an Executive page.
